Everette “Ever” left the rolling hills of Tennessee for college, vowing never to return to the life she’d left behind. But when her aunt passes and wills her the Rose and Thorn Ranch—complete with its herd of animals, rolling pastures, and decades of memories—she’s forced to face the home she thought she’d outgrown.

The ranch holds her happiest childhood summers, lazy days riding horses and running wild through the fields. Now it’s hers to keep… or sell and walk away forever.

Tobias has spent fourteen years as head ranch hand on the Rose and Thorn Ranch, becoming as steady and rooted as the land itself. Quiet, fiercely protective of the animals and the legacy he’s helped maintain. But when Ever arrives, he quickly realizes she has no recollection of him—or the bond he’s never forgotten.

As she struggles to decide whether she can run the ranch on her own, and Tobias wrestles with feelings she doesn’t even know exist, the Rose and Thorn becomes the unlikely backdrop for healing old wounds, rediscovering lost connections, and a love that refuses to stay in the past.

In a story of second chances, unspoken history, and finding your way home, Rose and Thorn is a heartfelt small-town romance about coming back to the place—and the person—you were always meant to find.

Ada Marlowe never disappoints. Her first cowboy romance novel is sweet and romantic. A story of two adults, that fell in love as kids, coming back together, healing each other, and finding their missing piece in the other.

Everette, Ever for short (I’m obsessed), inherits her Aunt & Uncle’s ranch in Strawberry Plains. Ever spent summers at the ranch, when her absent mother dropped her off, unintentionally giving Ever a place and people to call home. She has been living her life, always thinking of and wishing for the boy that asked her to run away with him.

Tobias is a hardworking cowboy and “the most handsome man” Ever has ever seen. He remembers Ever from their childhood, however, he thinks she forgets him, immediately gets offended and makes her welcome at the ranch unpleasant and uncomfortable. The bickering between the 2 is so fun, however, their mutual attraction and pull towards each other does not keep them apart for long. Which I love! I love some good tension, but I don’t want to read a whole entire book of it, give me the love!

I love a happy ending. Tobias and Everette forever!!!

I cannot wait to read more from Strawberry Plains!

This was a very sweet open door romance. I loved the second chance/ childhood friends tropes in it and feel like they were written very well and straightforward. The conflict was very light and easily solved and was not between Ever and Tobias. I loved that it was just a really sweet story about two people finding themselves and each other and falling in love on a ranch!

I finished Rose and Thorne by Ada Marlowe and OMG 😭🌹🤠

This is the first book in her Strawberry Plains series and also her first romance book, and honestly? I am SO happy I picked this up because I could not get enough of it.

I have never really read a cowboy romance before, but Tobias completely won me over. He is the sassiest man ever and the banter between Ever and Tobias was EVERYTHING. Those first chapters where they absolutely hated each other had me giggling and kicking my feet the entire time because it was just perfection.

The characters were also SO easy to connect with. I knew by chapter 3 that I was going to love them, and that honestly made the whole reading experience even better.

I already need more from this series and I cannot wait for the other characters to get their own stories.

I don’t do spoilers in my reviews, but if you’ve been hesitant to try cowboy romance because it’s outside your usual genre, PLEASE give this one a chance. I’m a fantasy girl through and through, and this book completely changed the way I look at cowboy romance 🤍

Also… this is the type of book that I would absolutely LOVE to see turned into a movie because the chemistry, banter, and vibes were just THAT good 😭

Thank you to Ada Marlowe for the opportunity to read this book early.
I absolutely loved this book.
We begin by following our FMC, Everette, or Ever for short. She had inherited her Aunt and Uncles ranch in Strawberry Plains, a place she thought she had left behind despite the many memories tied to it.
Eventually we meet our MMC, Tobias, who is one of the ranch hands who had worked for Ever's Aunt and Uncle for years. He comes off as a bit of a grump, but underneath his grumpiness, there is a heart.
I love a cowboy or country romance. I enjoyed the romance development in Rose & Thorn. There is a lot of yearning and restraint between Ever and Tobias. The tension between the two characters builds instead of fizzling out quickly. There is some spice throughout the story, but it never felt overly descriptive or excessive, and it also wasn't the main plot of the book, which I personally appreciated.
Beyond the romance, the story also followed a few other plot lines which created a different kind of tension. It would constantly keep you wondering what might happen next.
Honestly, I probably could have finished this book much sooner but I had to pace myself because I did not want it to end. I already know I will be picking up a physical copy when it releases later this year in July!
And I cannot wait to see more from the Strawberry Plains series.

“I’d rather see her burn with irritation than see her drown in anxiety.” Okie dokie. Where’s the ring? I’ll marry you right freakin’ now, Tobias.

This book had me glued to my kindle every available second, giddy like a damn teenager. The tension…that rope was TAUT, okay? Good LAWD have mercy. I ate this up.

Can we discuss Tobias and how he’s “sculpted by the gods?” No. Not until you’ve read this. Seriously. Get your copy ASAP. You KNOW you want to read about a hot asf ranch hand. Don’t even try to deny it. 🤤

“Maybe that’s what I want…” Girl, you know what I want? Book 2. 🙌🏻

All of this AND he calls her Princess. Grab the cloth, I’m a simple lil puddle.

ARC Review

I loved this book! Perfect amount of spice and emotional grab. Ever moved to Chicago for college and didn’t expect to come back to the Ranch that her aunt and uncle had. Mind you she grew up being dropped off there by her mom for weeks at a time. But sadly her aunt and uncle both passed away and left the ranch/property all to her. Ever was one lost person on why they did but honestly it was the best thing ever to happen. She kept battling on do I keep the ranch or not and I’m glad she decided to keep! And she was the boss to three men and one who loved to banter with her… he sure won her heart in the end after all his grumpy comments. The cutest part was when she was 12 a boy who went by T.J. told her they would run away one day to escape problems but instead they reunited and fell in love all over again. Loved the emotions that part brought and when he told his mom that he’s going to marry her🥹

This story really pulled me in at chapter 5 when the MMC and FMC were just bickering almost and he KNEW he liked her!!! Just read the first line and that is honestly my favorite thing to hear him say😅

I do love how the author makes it seem like a he’s just one Grumpy man that in reality falls in love with Ever and has been waiting for her since they were kids.

I would 100% recommend this book!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 Stars

Rose and Thorn was such an enjoyable read and ended up surprising me with how emotional it was. I picked it up expecting a romance, but what really stood out to me was the way grief was woven throughout the story. The FMC's grief felt like a character in its own right—always present, influencing her choices and relationships in a way that felt authentic and heartbreaking.

There was one point where I actually cried, which doesn't happen often for me. Watching the FMC navigate her loss while slowly opening herself up again was beautifully done. The MMC was exactly what she needed—not someone who tried to fix her, but someone who patiently supported her, challenged her when necessary, and helped her work through her grief in a way that felt natural and earned.

And the yearning? Absolutely top-notch. The slow build of their relationship had me fully invested, and the emotional tension between them was sometimes even better than the romantic moments themselves. I was rooting for them the entire time.

I also loved the humor sprinkled throughout the book. The banter was sharp, and the conversations with the side characters had me laughing out loud more than once. The supporting cast added so much warmth and personality to the story.

Overall, Rose and Thorn is a heartfelt romance with fantastic yearning, meaningful character growth, laugh-out-loud moments, and an emotional depth that hit me harder than I expected. If you enjoy romances that balance humor and heart while exploring heavier themes with care, I would definitely recommend giving this one a try.

Ada Marlow wrote a small town, cowboy romance filled with such tension and desire that it makes your breath catch.
Out of all the romance Ive read this year this book definitely had THE most tension between a fmc and mmc. The destined mates for this story was chef’s kiss. You can’t help but love Tobias. His heart is pure even under all the grump. And Ever, I wanted to be her Marrissa or the third in that friendship, cuz being her friend would be so fun. The farm is almost another character all its own. The description and love written about this farm transports you there. I truly wish it was real. I also want to be able to sit under that oak tree. This story takes you a journey of love, loss, growth, what its like to work on a farm, friendships, and finding your person so long ago and coming back to them even after years later. This was a fun, sweet, tension filled romance. Perfect for summer.

I truly loved Rose and Thorn so much, this was a story of self discovery, finding what was lost, and ultimately love. Ever and Tobias are both such wonderful characters, their budding romance is so satisfying, and learning their background made the story all the better.

Rose and Thorn was a quick read for me, the writing flowed, and the pacing was great. I also appreciated that the romance moved quickly, but also at a pace that totally felt believable, it was really well written.

Overall this is a truly wonderful entry into the western romance genre, I highly recommend it! Thank you to the author for providing an advance copy in exchange for an honest review, I cannot wait to go back to Strawberry Plains.

Rose & Thorn is a feel-good, slow burn romance with lots of charm. I loved the peaceful countryside atmosphere along with the bustle of running a small ranch in the modern era. The slow burn love story was full of quiet yearning and a “forbidden love” vibe. The banter and flirting had me giggling and kicking my feet. I enjoyed the elements of found family and the lively side characters. The theme of self-discovery strongly resonated with me …sometimes starting over is the best way to find yourself and happiness. Heartwarming read!

Give me small-town romance, lovable animals, and a slow-burn romance any day of the week. 👌 Welcome to Strawberry Plains. 🍓

Ever returns home after inheriting her aunt’s ranch and is forced to decide whether to keep it or walk away. Meanwhile, Tobias—the ranch’s longtime head ranch hand—has never forgotten her.

This story is full of heart, healing, found family vibes, adorable animals, and a romance that unfolds so naturally. I loved watching Ever reconnect with her roots while Tobias quietly supported her every step of the way. Their chemistry was tender, emotional, and impossible not to root for. ♥️

A cozy, heartfelt romance about finding your way home and discovering that sometimes what you’ve been searching for has been waiting for you all along!

Small-town romance? Sign me UP! 🙋🏻‍♀️

ARC review: Fully enjoyed this book and it pulled me in from the start! Ranch setting with dual POVs, enemies to lovers, forced proximity = yes, yes, yes! I couldn’t wait to read the next chapter as I went along: FMC Ever (short for Everette) is finding her way in the world and our MMC Tobias is everything I want in a cowboy: broody, fierce on the outside and compassionate on the inside, protective and loving toward all the things that are meaningful to him. This is a delightful and entertaining read, exactly what I want to escape reality for a period of time. I look forward to reading another book by Ada — take me back to the ranch! ❤️

Check it out when it hits the shelves July 6!

I am obsessed with this book. It is the cutest story ever. I love a good second chance, cowboy romance. Ada, you killed it.

Seeing the story of them falling in love with kids and then rekindling that love as adults was perfectly put together. The bickering that they have going on in the beginning that turns into the love and attraction was top-tier.

Thank you Ada Marlowe for the ARC <3

I think this book had potential and good concepts, but unfortunately it didn't pan out for me.

I wanted to like the characters more than I did, but they felt very two-dimensional. I feel like I didn't really know or get a chance to get to know them and develop more of a connection to them. Sorry if this is rude but I didn't care that Ever's aunt died because it didn't feel like there was much feeling behind it for me to care. There were also a lot of unanswered questions about the characters that I feel like could have been answered to add more depth. Why did Tobias act out/get in lots of trouble as a kid? What changed his mind? Why was he super hesitant to introduce Ever to his mom? When did Ever feel connected to the ranch and her aunt? What about her mom? Why does she feel more passionate about taking over the ranch now? Why does she think she can lead the ranch? Just lots of unanswered questions.

As for the plot/storyline, the book overall was a quick read, but the plot was so slow that it almost dragged for me. There was definitely good potential, but a lot of it, including the characters and plot, were half-baked. I even didn't really feel much with their past interaction. It felt flat and not as focused on or impactful as it could have been. Some parts just didn't connect and jumped far enough where I was confused how we got there. I really think it just needed more fleshing out. Don't get me wrong, there were a lot of good parts (like the sugar scene lol), but it unfortunately doesn't stand out against other cowboy romances.

There were also some side plot storylines that I think had good potential, but kinda just disappeared. The conflict of Robby wanting the ranch and the broker/lawyer being connected to him could've been so much bigger and more intense than it was. It was kinda just resolved like "ok it's taken care of that's it" but I wanted MORE. Or just the details and budget of Ever running the ranch. It seemed sidelined.

I also feel like there was a lot of telling the reader about the past or events instead of showing us. Give me flashbacks. Put me into the story. Don't just tell me. Show me.

Overall I think this has potential as a draft but there were a lot of half-baked ideas that I think could have benefitted from more editing and details. I wish I liked it more than I did.

"Rose and Thorn" by Ada Marlowe is a small-town cowboy romance with forced proximity between Tobias, the country boy MMC, and Everette, aka Ever, the city girl FMC. Ever has recently been told that her Aunt Linda, the one she visited every summer as a kid when her mom pawned her off on her aunt, has passed away. Ever's aunt left her everything in her will, including the family ranch, the animals, the machinery, etc. Ever doesn't know the first thing about ranching, but wants to see if she still feels a pull to the property where she felt so at home, so comforted, so like herself in an uncertain world. Once there, she encounters the prickly ranchhand, Tobias, who is very, *very* standoffish towards her at first, almost to the point of being mean. As the two learn to navigate a Linda-less world, Ever must figure out whether she wants to sell the ranch and go back to Chicago, or give it a go in the only place that ever felt like home. Orbiting each other more and more, Tobias and Ever come to realize they have a lot more in common than they think. He softens towards her, and she begins to discover the ranch means more to her than she ever thought it could. I thought Tobias and Ever had good chemistry with one another the longer the book goes on, but *man,* he was such a jerk at first! I totally get it, his job was basically threatened by someone who had no clue what to do on a ranch, but yikes! There's a little bit of an "are you who you say you are?" thing going on between them, which I found to be pretty obvious. There's a little bit of tension, a touch of dramatics, a skosh of self-discovery, a tiny bit of spice. My one complaint about this book is that it moves pretty slowly a lot of the time, but without the pining and yearning I crave from a romance like this. Just slow, not anticipatory. Some of the scenes and dialogue feel a bit repetitive, especially when it comes to whether or not Ever will sell her family's ranch or not. The story drags here and there, and I feel like it could have been a little bit shorter for the sake of having a better flow. Overall, though, this is a solid book, and I will definitely check out Ada's books in the future!

Thank you to Ada Marlowe for the complimentary ARC of this book. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this review.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️
Reading Method: eARC
Tropes: second chances, country living, slow burn, open door romance, enemies to lovers, small town romance.

Thank you @theadamarlowe for the opportunity to read this eARC 💗. This is my first time ever reading a cowboy/country romance and I enjoyed it!

In Rose and Thorn, we first meet Ever, (short for Everette), who learns that she has inherited her aunt and uncle’s ranch in Strawberry Plains, Tennessee. This ranch holds good and not-so-good childhood memories for her; throughout the story she contemplates if she is worthy enough per se to own and take care of this vast heirloom. Now insert Tobias, the ranch hands who has worked on the ranch for most of his teen-young adult years; he has closely worked alongside with Ever’s aunt and uncle so he basically knows all the ins and outs of the land—to the point he comes off very protective of it. When Ever and Tobias first meet (again? 😉), it starts off rocky—she sees him as some broody and grumpy man, and he portrays her as some city gal “princess”. The back and forth bickering between the two in my opinion is entertaining lol.

However, the bickering between Ever and Tobias turns interesting. 🤭 It develops into: a slow burn of stolen glances, the tension-filled yearning, and…(from Ever’s POV) a re-emergence of childhood memories of “familiar green eyes” and a boy who proposed the idea to run away together. As for the spice, there was some throughout the story, but it did not feel overdone—to put it simply, yes they were physically intimate, but that was not the focal point of their union. I feel the root of their relationship was the growth and development of how they were emotionally and mentally towards one another.

There were other notable elements/plots to this story: self-discovery, found family, and some form of bullying-harassment (spoiler: a lawyer and a really wealthy rich person). As I said in the beginning, I enjoyed reading this especially since it’s my first cowboy/country romance! If you made it this far reading my review, I really appreciate it!

**ARC REVIEW**

Tobias & Everette

🤍slow burn
🤍second chance
🤍small town romance
🤍enemies to lovers
🤍she’s his boss

Everette is living in Chicago and gets a call that her aunt had recently passed away and left her the family ranch. Everette grew up there every summer and loved the place. After getting there she eventually meets Tobias, the Lead Ranch Hand. Looking at him, he seems familiar and reminds her of a boy she met on the ranch one summer. But with the way he speaks to her, she thinks that Tobias for sure couldn’t be him.

From the beginning you kind of suspect something between Tobias and Everette. Tobias is secretly very protective of her. The protective side and the soft spot he has for her becomes more known throughout the book. As their feelings for each other grow, more and more is revealed from the past. Everette starts to see the heart of gold Tobias actually has. The blooming relationship was beautiful to see.

Now to the critical aspect of this book, I wish there would have been more flashbacks of her summers there. Instead of just talking about being dropped off by her mom, I would have enjoyed going back in time to the perspective of Everette as a little girl. Getting more of a deeper perspective of both characters POV would have been beneficial. I also feel the climax of this book was not as climatic as I generally enjoy. Maybe a little too short lived for my liking? Those are the reasons I gave it 4⭐️.

Overall, Rose & Thorn was a very easy read and such a beautiful story! It kept me engaged and I fell more and more in love with Tobias throughout the book! 🤍 Can’t wait to see if there are more stories coming in this series or if it will be a standalone!

TL:DR

🤠 Cowboy romance
☀️ Grumpy x sunshine
🧑‍🧑‍🧒 Found family
❤️‍🔥 Slow burn
🔁 Second Chance
🌶️🌶️ Spice level

This is the first story I've read from Ada Marlowe and I can tell you, there will be so many more for me. I was hooked from the beginning.

Small town, cowboy romance? Yes please. Add in the yearning and deeeeppppp banter? I'm going to melt!

Everette (Ever) is a city girl, living in Chicago at the beginning of the book when she gets a call that her aunt recently passed away and has left her the family ranch, where she spent her summers as a kid. When she arrives on the farm, she meets Tobias, the Lead Ranch Hand and you can tell from the beginning that there's something between the two of them. He's angsty but also protective of her even while being very suspicious of her intentions.

I loved reading Ever growing into her role, taking note of all of the different aspects of the farm, really looking to get into the nitty gritty of it and doing her best to make the best decision on whether to keep the farm or not. I would have loved to hear/read about more of her childhood... especially after her revelation. It would make for an added bonus to just polish off the story.

Overall, it was a very easy read, took me a little longer to complete only because life got in the way (I know right? How dare it?!) But, when I had the downtime, I was able to breeze through the chapters and yearn for more.

Thank you for sharing this ARC of Rose & Thorn with me, it was a pleasure to get to know Ever and Tobias, as well as their friends and cohorts. I can't wait to read more if this continues into a series. The way some of the secondary characters were blended into this story, I can feel it coming!

Actual star review: 3.5 or 4

I received an advance review copy of this book.

I'm enjoying so far! I love all of the characters, and love to see these different personalties individually which's madde interesting more to get know them each pages I had read. I love to see both main charactrer devlopment to improve the freindship/ relationship better. They got know each other more everyday to make them feel connection better, and finally understand each other well. I adore them as much as an author wrote it. I had top favorite chapter is Dale and Sally if you know what I've talked about it. My heart melt and felt warm from this chapter, impacting my emotions touched well. Rose and Thorn Ranch, I felt connected that place where I feel belong in smal town, or freedom where I can be quiet in peaceful with animals, and my lover. I wish I could visit any ranch so I can learn how to do it somehow in hard way. It was worth it to reading until the end because in few chaptaer and the end are simple, beautitful, and wholesome.

A reason why I gave 3.5 or 4 stars because I had struggled read the couple pages through it. I had hard time to understand what it goes on since I tried to imgaine what it looks like picture in my head. I do wish I can see more process of Ever's grieving that it is part of importance that I want to see how far she recoverd but it is good though. And this is my first time farm/cowboy/ ranch romantic book ever I read it. Overall, I still find it enjoyment, and tried my best to imagine all of these happen through each chapters.

Thank you for letting me read your book as an advance reader:)

Thank you to the author for providing me an advanced reader copy. When I saw a brief description for this book (small town cowboy romance, slow burn, country living, enemies to lovers) my immediate thought was say less.

I’m glad I was able to read this book and give my honest feedback. I was immediately engrossed in this book. I appreciate the app that allowed me to read it, but to be honest I prefer a physical copy. Despite my preference, I found myself pulling up the app in the small moments I get to myself as a full-time student and stay-at-home mom; they are few and far between.

I thoroughly enjoyed the setting and the slow, country living vibes. I live in West Tennessee on a small ranch of my own so it was really relatable. I loved the banter between Ever and Tobias. It kept me guessing what snarky conversation they would be entangled in next.

The book dealt with tough topics such as grief, contentious relationships with a parent, and feelings of uncertainty in where you belong and what you want for your life. I think the author handled them very well and it felt as though I was on the journey along with her.

I loved Ever and Tobias’ back story. I wish we would’ve gotten more flashbacks from the past. It seemed like there was so much built upon Tobias remembering Ever and her not remembering him. The unraveling of which fell a little flat, but not so much so that it made me want to stop reading. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to subsequent books within this series.

First off, thank you for an advanced copy!

Rose and Thorn is a dual first person POV cowboy romance that follows our main characters Ever and Tobias as they figure out how to run a ranch together after the passing of the owner, Ever's aunt.

This book was absolutely fantastic. I enjoyed the maturity of Ever as a character, and felt her pain and doubt as if it were my own as she conquered the task of dealing with the loss of a loved one and being thrust into an unknown situation with being an operator of a property like the Rose and Thorn ranch. She felt perfectly balanced as a character with flaws and details that made her feel real.

Tobias was a hoot and a holler as the MMC, a very rugged and deep character that didn't feel like one note. The characters for sure are the heart and soul of this book.

The plot felt very comfortable, not too cliched, but definitely seen in the cowboy genre, and it was handled in a way that felt cozy and real. It didn't feel inflated and kept the small town vibe the entire time without leaning into Hallmark territory.

There might be a smidge of personal bias towards this novel, seeing as I live a hop and a skip away from the real Strawberry Plains, but honestly that just made the read even more enchanting for myself as a reader.

Would I recommend this? Trick question: I have already recommended it to like five different people.

It earned it's ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ from me.

✨ ARC REVIEW ✨
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5

Thank you to the author for the ARC of Rose & Thorn by Ada Marlowe 🤍

I’m giving this one 4 stars purely for the vibes because I do love a good cowboy romance 🤠🌹 While this one ultimately wasn’t fully for me, I think Ada Marlowe did a really solid job for her first romance novel, and I definitely see a lot of potential in her storytelling.

This was a cute, quick read, though it took me a little longer to get through simply because the relationship dynamic wasn’t personally my favorite. I never fully connected with the romance the way I hoped to, and at times the characters felt a bit younger than expected in some of their decisions and interactions.

At first, some of the banter didn’t fully land for me, but as the story progressed, it started to flow more naturally and became easier to settle into. There were also a few moments that left me a little frustrated, but I know other readers who enjoy more playful, cheesy banter will probably find those scenes really fun and charming.

The “Cup of Sugar” chapter was honestly adorable, and I wish there had been even more moments like that throughout the story because those softer scenes really stood out to me 🤎

Overall, while this one wasn’t a perfect fit for my personal reading taste, I still think it’ll work really well for readers who love lighthearted cowboy romances with cheesy banter and cozy vibes.
