More gibberish on lamentable abortions. The only practical solution is for now paying young women to have a Norplant implant. Are the pro-lifers willing to prevent the need for an abortion? Probably many would be opposed many wish to punish promiscuity never mind the personal, political & social misery attendant upon unwanted births. Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.
David Reardon is writing from vast experience with hurting women post-abortion, so he should know what he's talking about when he says most women who have an abortion know that it is wrong, but see no other way out of their predicament. His contention is that the way forward is not to point out that it is wrong, but to change the mantra that it is good for women. To teach that preventing abortion is protecting the woman from harm, primarily (while incidentally also protecting the baby) would allow pro-women as well as pro-life advocates to be on the same page. The only opposition would be those openly pro-abortion and not women's rights (a small minority in David Reardon's opinion). It is a realistic, human approach to abortion. There's no doubt that many women are seriously damaged by the experience and this should be more widely known. I just couldn't remove a sceptical little voice inside me that looks at all the politics and blatant bias around this issue and wonder whether there is any political will to accept David Reardon's excellent statistics on the harm to the mother. His publications are solid, scientific studies, yet have received little attention.
I think it is the only mindset that will bring healing when it comes to abortion and not further division. I think most people believe abortion kills a child, but feel that the life of the mother is more important leaving abortion as necessary evil. This book talks about harm that abortion does to women. It's aim is to make abortion unthinkable, and then becoming illegal will naturally fall in suit.
