We’ve all seen it before—experienced leaders failing due to some type of transgression. Author Tom Yeakley believes this happens because character flaws that were always present begin to come forward. Based on his 30-plus years of discipleship and coaching experience, Yeakley has developed Growing Kingdom Character to help current leaders challenge emerging leaders to intentionally developing their character. Teaching, exercises, and Bible study make this practical handbook a must-have for those involved in mentoring young leaders. The fruit will be integrity, maturity, and wisdom in a new generation of leaders.
This book is good for gaining a wholistic understanding of important leadership characteristics and how to cultivate them while following Jesus. I think this book's greatest flaw is the stuffy recurring exercises that are clearly aimed at older individuals working in a business management context. These made Yeakley come off as unaware, redundant, and even goofy at times. Nevertheless, some of the other exercises, stories, and studies are helpful for a broader audience to tangibly build solid character.
Excellent! I have always looked for a resource that would help build character but could never find one. 2 Peter 1:5 states that we are to make EVERY EFFORT to add to our faith virtue. I like this resource because it provides good didactic teaching followed by numerous Scriptural examples and illustrations, followed by Scrpture memory and application. We are not just to know good, we are to do good - that's the application.
yes yes yes! so gooood!!! this was had both reading and workbook style content and i love it! going through this in small group was so beneficial and growing! i would recommend for anyone with any sort of leadership role to read. i felt convicted and challenged and left with applicable action steps at the end of each chapter
I haven’t read many leader specific books but out what I have read this is one of the best and most balanced. I would describe this book with two words, Biblical and Practical. I recommend this book for anyone wanting to peruse leadership and I know it’s one I will continue to revisit.
