I received an advance copy of this book. This is my honest, voluntary review.

If you enjoy crime thrillers like Jason Bourne, John Wick, or especially Reacher, you’ll love Midnight Enemy. There’s a lot of snark and wit here (very reminiscent of Reacher) mixed with intense action, brutal fight scenes, mafia intrigue, and enough suspense to keep you flying through the pages like any great thriller should.

I was hooked early with Chase; he wastes absolutely no time getting down to business. And once Kojo entered the story, I was fully invested. They are both such sarcastic characters and I loved it. Add in the nonstop tension and action, it made this book hard to put down.

I’ll definitely be continuing this series.

I really liked this book. It had danger and mystery in every turn. Chase is a boxer. Not just any boxer. Not just an average boxer… he’s really good!! There’s no fear in this man. As he gets into the ring something happens deep inside of him. A feeling of not just self preservation, a feeling of power and control. When the mob wants him to take a dive, well he just can’t! It isn’t in him to stop. Whatever is inside of him comes through his fists. After it’s all said and done, now Chase is fighting for his life. This book starts in the US but as Chase tries to stay ahead of the mob and is forced to flee overseas… plenty of action. Plenty of suspense.

I love reading series but I like the story to end in each book where it can also be a stand alone. This is part of a series that I will have to continue to read to find out what happens to Chase. That’s why I gave it 4 stars

Midnight Enemy
By Robian Elbar

Thoroughly entertaining and adrenaline fuelled, this is a pulse pounding read packed with relentless action.

Throw it all away…pride is a powerful emotion, and so is power over another person. The two rarely coexist without an explosive, dramatic, and final conclusion.

This is a high energy, violent story that keeps the pages turning. Ego and control spiral toward inevitable destruction, proving that pinning a rat in a corner and expecting peace is an illusion at best.

From the very first pages, the story makes one thing clear: power is not just about territory or money. It’s about dominance over people, emotions, and fate itself. Loyalty becomes currency, while pride proves to be the most dangerous weapon of all. Together, they create a volatile combination that edges ever closer to unavoidable reckoning.

By the time the explosive finale arrives, it doesn’t feel shocking it feels earned. The violence is never glorified; instead, it lands with tragic weight.

Suspense, intrigue, and despair fuel an intense desire to uncover the truth. Elbar excels at storytelling and world building, keeping readers invested in the protagonist as he’s drawn deeper into the mystery. Trust and betrayal drive this twisting narrative, and just when clarity seems within reach, the story changes direction once again.

I can confidently recommend Midnight Enemy to readers who enjoy Tom Clancy, Sam Cogley, Ty Mitchell, and the duo Jeff Bonilla & Charles Moss.

This is the first book in a three-part series, and it ends on a big cliffhanger. It is a fast action thriller that feels like a mix of John Wick, Jack Reacher, and The Punisher.

Chase "Midnight" Keating is an MMA fighter. When he refuses to lose a fight on purpose for Sonny Casaloro - the son of a mafia boss - he puts a target on his back. Because everyone in the city fears the mafia, Chase loses his fiancée, Lexi. His pride starts a dangerous race against time. To survive, he has to find his brother, Daniel, who is mixed up in even worse trouble.

The story is full of action, chases, fights, and loss. It feels just like watching a fast - paced movie.

My only small complaint is that I wanted more details about Chase. It is hard to tell why he doesn't feel emotions like other people. I think if I understood his mind better, it would make sense why he barely seems to sad about losing his fiancée.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is one of those books that grabs you by the collar early and never really loosens its grip. The pacing moves with a sharp, deliberate urgency, each chapter folding into the next in a way that makes it difficult to step away for long. There’s a constant sense of forward motion, like the story is always just slightly ahead of you, pulling you along whether you meant to follow or not.
What truly anchors it, though, are the characters. They feel lived-in rather than constructed, each carrying their own weight, their own quiet contradictions. Even in the smallest moments, their choices feel intentional, shaped by something deeper than the plot alone. It becomes easy to invest in them, to worry for them, to linger on their words and silences alike.
Overall, it’s a compelling read that balances speed with substance, delivering a story that feels both immediate and memorable long after the final page.

Did not realise this was going to be a cliffhanger; assumed it was going to be a series of stand alone novels with the same protagonist.
It took me about 100 pages to really get into the story and the characters, but once I did the story moved quickly. The protagonist, Chase; all the people who are trying to kill him; and then all the people that swing back and forth between help and kill. Keeping track was sometimes difficult, especially when there seemed to be a new twist every chapter or so.
I think I will have to wait until Chase figures it all out to work out what is going on and what the purpose and main plot are, but at this rate it will probably be the end of book 3.

Chase is a boxer. Who never throws a fight and man of honour and pride in his talent. When the mob asks him to throw a fight he can’t. Now he is fighting for his life, with powerful people after him. Corruption runs high .
This book has full on action, suspense and great characters.

This story was good. I did have a hard time following it at times though…especially with all of the slang that was used. I felt like the MMA fighting aspect of the book was a little overdone too. I really liked how the author had the different characters have their own personalities/way of speaking when it was their POV.
