The book offers a comprehensive presentation of the work of contemporary Lithuanian painter Eglė Ulčickaitė (b. 1989), accompanied by essays that reflect on her art. Belonging to a generation that discovered itself in the wake of historical ruptures, Ulčickaitė observes the impenetrability of the everyday as it slips into disappearance and transformation.
Her painting, a language of memory, allows one to recall what was never lived through and to sense what escapes representation. More an artistic diary than a conventional catalogue, the book unfolds as a constellation of images, reflections, and fragments, exposing how time dissolves matter, light, and surface. It is a book about painting's capasity to withstand undeterminacy – to endure what cannot be resolved, while still remaining in debt to the present moment.
