Some people like punk music. Some people need it. Stiles clings to the comfort only Rancid and the Dead Kennedys can provide as he insists that he really is a boy. It's everyone else that has it wrong, and they can fuck right off if they don't want to believe him.

I don't even know what to say about this fic, so I'm just going to babble.
I'm kind of embarrassed to admit this but for a long time I had a hard time grasping the concept of transgenderism. There have been countless conversations, untold hours of research and a decent amount of internet searches for me to finally get it. I've now come to the conclusion that I should've just read some taylorpotato and saved myself the time. In just a few simple words or phrases all the struggles, inner turmoil and discrimination trans people face on a daily basis are conveyed effortlessly and deftly.
Before you get the wrong impression, this fic isn't heavy or angst filled; it's actually pretty fluffy. Peter isn't even his usual snarky, unscrupulous, asshatty self that I love so. I kind of missed that Peter, but I LOVED how he accepts Stiles. He figures out Stiles is trans whilst groping him publicly outside his club, The Oil Rag, after a show by punk band, Two-Cent Hooker. Derek's a member of this band. What he doesn't know is Stiles is jailbait. Oops. <~~~said in high giggly voice
Peter and Stiles frequent the back of Stiles' Jeep. In the parking lot. The Jeep actually rocks.

I love stories wherein the MCs are clearly in love with one another without being sappy and feeling the need to say the L word every 5 mins. I also liked that Peter is hella tattooed and a blue collar dude. They support each other, have fun together and, of course, make a least one sex bet.

Loved it. The FTM trans Stiles stories are among my favorites by this author. There are a lot of reasons but the biggest is probably that they feel the most experimental and exploratory and thus come closest to what I like best about fanfiction.
I'll just add that like far too many Americans, I knew almost nothing about transgender twelve months ago: I am unspeakably grateful for the education I have been getting from many sources, the Wachowskis' Netflix series, Sense8, and Kaje Harper's Chasing Death Metal Dreams to name two I especially admired. But I find the trans stories from this fandom (and this author) to be the richest, the most personal, and the most enlightening of those, in part because this fandom is so personally important to me. I don't want to sound too gushy, especially since I beta-read for this author, but it's hard not to feel some awe at taylorpotato's contributions to TW fanfic in the past year, both in his mind-boggling word count and in the restless creativity that keeps him innovating and upending pretty much every established assumption about characters and ships. It really has been amazing watching it all unfold.

Taylorpotato is a new fave of mine, and his stories with trans characters? A-fucking-mazing. That's How They Deal With Boys Like Me had more of an emotional side to it, although still super hot (that Stiles was gender-fluid). But I love teenage-punk Stiles in this one! I loved how it was able to convey his growing up and finding himself in a few pages and with a few Rancid lyrics. I loved his and Peters fucking-to-relationship development. And I loved the quick wrap-up through time that we got so it wasn't only a HFN. Definitely an auto-read author!

This lays everything out, right there on the table, for anyone to take a gander. No pressure because it just is. Stiles is who he is, and Peter sees him and wants him, all of him.
Peter is who he is and Stiles wants him, despite that fact.
In other words, it's Steter as Steter should be for my enjoyment.
I choose to ignore the age thing before Stiles turns 18. And a few passages in the beginning read like "transgender for dummies", but that's not exactly a fault. The Sheriff feels a bit superfluous the way he's utilized, but he needed to be there.
As usual, taylorpotato's phrasing and pacing are pretty much spot on. As is the dialogue. And the Stiles. And the Peter. And I really like them here.

I love taylorpotato's works but I don't like Stiles having a vagina, to be fair Stiles also does not like having girly parts. But I do love me some Steter so I gave it a go it's not bad but I'll probably stick with Stiles with testicals.

Actually very sweet and normal. Was Peter even a wolf in this? No….sadly I think I need the biting and almost ripping out your throat Peter and the mentally unstable Stiles for this to work for me.

Hell yeah, this is a 5-star steter! Stiles is transgender in this one and Peter is the comforting, understanding, pervy older figure that loves him just the way he is. Perfection! I'm glad I never took an actual bet that I'd never read steter or like Peter because I would have lost big time! I loved Peter in this one. Derek even gives Stiles "the talk" about protecting Peter's feelings. Just aaaaaaaw and feelz all around.
Oh, and the sex, of course, is steamy!

3.5 stars! I actually enjoyed this one despite it being outside my...hmm, not comfort zone exactly but it wasn't my ideal. The writing is good, no question, but the idea of Stiles being a girl who identified as a boy took some getting used to, though the author really made it work. The bigger problem might be the age gap between the two (though I like May/December pairings) Peter really is a bit squicky for sleeping with someone that young. But again, it's good and it works. Solid writing, but read the tags first!
