They are so numerous that Tennessee, Iowa, Missouri, and Nebraska have all named it as their official fish. But what separates them from other catfish species? Channel catfish are native to fresh water areas, including reservoirs, lakes, streams, ponds, and rivers. They will usually choose a location with good breeding areas, an adequate food supply, and fairly warm temperatures. Channel cats prefer to build nests for spawning in hidden, hollow logs, rock ledges, and undercut banks, so the presence of these features may indicate a good area to look for catfish. This book was a letdown. While it claims to be a helpful guide for beginners, it’s poorly organized, overly repetitive, and padded with basic information that’s easy to find online for free. There’s little depth or detail, and it often reads more like a keyword-stuffed list than a thoughtfully written guide. If you're serious about learning to fish for catfish, you'd be better off looking elsewhere.
Well written, albeit, basic, primer for those uninitiated in the pursuit of the wiley catfish. Personally, I did not really find much info that I did not already know about catfish, but I still enjoyed the narrative.
