(Note: This book is not the sequel to Jungle. It is not Young Adult and may be best suited for readers over 18.)
Sheltered and over-protected her whole life, Rhees has always been the type who can be in a crowded room and still feel lonely. After losing both parents within a short time, she really is all alone in the world—time to grow up! The fastest way to do that? Face her worst fears, the ocean topping the list. Paul has traveled the world, running from his past, a past he’s not proud of and refuses to talk about. When he reaches the small, Caribbean island on the dive bum circuit, he’s found home. He buys one of the local dive shops and finds solace running a top-notch scuba operation, diving by day and by night, allowing the never-ending supply of hovering women to seduce him. Rhees isn’t Paul’s type, so why does she drive him so crazy, pressing his already foul temper to its limits? She’s the biggest baby he’s ever known, scared of her own shadow, and no one can really be that good at heart. He has too much fun goading her to drop the act and stop trying to make everyone believe she’s a saint, but each time he breaks down a piece of that reserved facade of hers, he’s amazed at how tough she really is. Paul never expected Rhees to break him down as well.
Redwood: Are you ready for the zombie apocalypse, and a good angsty love story?
Jungle: The Whispering Ruins, is a YA paranormal, action and adventure, kind of sword and sorcery story.
Wet was supposed to be a quick, hammer it out story so I could get back to Jungle II, but it turned into a gut-wrenching, 3 part saga. It's a great beach/vacation read, or if you need a vacation but can't get away.
People are saying they didn't expect all the twists and turns in Poppy's Anthem. Nor the car chases, exploding helicopters ... not your typical rockstar romance.
Feast is a quick feel-good holiday novella about growing up, relationships, and learning to trust your heart.
Peace in the Storm is #16 in a 22 book anthology, The Peace Series. I dedicated this sweet Cowboy romance to my bull-riding brother and love how it turned out.
This was a great story that kept my attention the whole time! It was well written and fun to read. Rhees was so sweet and innocent and Paul, although he could be a jerk, was very charming and had me intrigued. I loved that the main character took off to get away and the setting of the book was different from what I am used to reading. The characters were well developed and it was really fun getting to know them. I also really like that Rhees didn't give into Paul's charm, unlike all of the other women. I really want to read the next book and it definitely left me wanting more! I would recommend it to anyone over 18 looking for something a little different from the mundane.
Okay first let me say thank you for letting me read this wonderful story. Let me start by saying, “WOW”. Talk about being a basket case after reading this book. It left me wanting more of the story. It has so many unanswered questions that I want to read the next book. This isn’t a love story that is rush. The author made sure that the story will have the time to build up the characters as an individual. So the character of Danarya “Rhees” Williams is a sweet, forgiving, naïve, super nice, kind of clueless, and a virgin. She was left alone after her parents both died and she wanted to try things she thought she’d never do. That’s why she ended up in an island that gave her peace and made her feel like she was home. She wanted to wait for her Mr. Right before she jumped into a bed with someone. Here comes the character of Paul Weaver who gets what he wants, when he wants it, and doesn’t make an apology for it. He is also Mr. Grumpy Pants, grade A asshole, and a freaking ticking time bomb. From the first day he saw Rhees he wanted her for himself. But because Rhees isn’t affected by his charms he found himself liking her more than just to scratch an itch. The two characters developed a relationship that started so bad I wanted to punch Paul in the fucking face just to teach him some manners. Rhees however took it all in strides. Their banter is so cute it made me smile. And do not get me started on misunderstanding on the first couple of chapters. It made me laugh like a crazy person. Haha. The book will make you want to pull your hair out because they are both stubborn you just want to yell at them! The supporting characters are great too. They added color and more drama on the story. They are too was build up on the story that you would want to hear what will happen to them on the next book. At the end of the book you be like “oh hell no, I gottah read the next one”. There are so much to learn between the two characters that you do not want the story to end. I really like this book because it was like a breath of fresh air. Some book to me felt rush and this one took her time to get inside your head and keep you guessing what will happened on the next chapter. The last chapter made me cry because I felt like I was Rhees saying goodbye to Paul and realizing that I have to be alone again after finding someone who made me feel safe and happy. I cannot wait for the next book because I have a feeling questions will be answered and I cannot wait to see what will happen to Rhees and Paul’s relationship.
This book, snagged me from the first page. It is a well-written developing love story between two unlikely people, Rhees and Paul. What I loved most about this book was the incredible character development. Rivera builds personalities with integrity and skill and doesn't compromise their traits, at any point in the story line. The romance is hot without being trashy and there is a lot of humor built into the story line. Perhaps my favorite thing about this book is the amazing job done on dialogue--it's real and raw and sassy all at once--love it! Wet is extremely well-written and organized. Until the very last page, I was left wanting more, wanting to see more of this blossoming relationship. I love that Rhees is steadfast in her beliefs and doesn't just throw her virginity away. I have already uploaded the second book because I simply need to know how this plays out.
*I got this book as gift directly given from S.Jackson Rivera.* Thanks you for choosing me to read this amazing and very well written story. I’ve been captivated from the first page. Even as I loved this story, I am a bit sad that I have to wait for Part 2, there are so many unanswered questions…….
I will give this book 4 stars, out of the reason that’s a cliffhanger and I have to wait for part 2.
I won this book from the author a while ago. It has been sitting in my TBR list. I don't know why I waited so long. Paul and Rhees' back and forth in this book had me starving for more. I feel in love with innocent Rhees from the start. Paul took some warming up too but eventually I started to see his change This was an amazing read and can't wait to continue on with Wet part 2 and the rest. I need to find out if Paul finally realizes that he is in love with the Sassy innocent Rhees.
OMGOSH! This story grabbed me right away and I COULD NOT put it down. Paul is a real jerk . . . or is he? I'd take him--yeah, I'm in love. Have a real case of boyfriend hangover. I'll be drooling until the next one comes out. Can't wait to see what happens next.
Wet, Part I is by S. Jackson Rivera. It is a very well written book and it pulls you into the story. The plot seems simple but there are some evil undertones that have to be taken into consideration. It deals with being accepted or not by your peers and how some people deal with that. It does lead right into the sequel. Rhees has never done anything the least bit spontaneous in her life. She lived with her parents in Utah and had been taking care of them the last few years. She had always felt on the outside here in Utah as almost all of her schoolmates were Mormon and she was excluded because she wasn’t. She had, however, picked up some of their beliefs and one of those was being pure when she married. Now she was twenty-five, a virgin, alone in the world, and very naïve. After her father’s death and the appearance of a life insurance policy she had known nothing about, she decided to take the money left after paying for his funeral and other expenses and go to an island and become certified in diving. She had seen a television program about divers and it had always been something she thought she might want to do. Now if she could only find the courage to do it. Paul is the owner of Paradise, a diving company on a small island. No one is sure where he came from or where he got his money; but he bought the small company for cash and continued to run it with Claire and Dobbs and Mitch. During his time on the island, the handsome Paul had obtained a reputation with the women. He had his pick of women and made sure all of them knew it was just a roll in the sack and not a relationship. He was just having the time of his life and he did enjoy women. Now Rhees comes to Paradise and throws things into a turmoil. She resists Paul for her own reasons but he thinks she lied to him by telling him she was a lesbian. In turn, he gets back at her by turning into Mr. Meanie-Head and Grumpy-Pants around her. He gives her the worst duties to fulfill and although she does get her land lessons and shallow water lessons, he continues to fail to put her on the dive list. She is running out of time and money and is not close to getting her certification. What is she going to do? Will Paul ever give her a chance?
I got this free on Amazon for a limited time, and I had the impression that there's a lot of sex here because of the author's note at the beginning of the description. Sure there are, but they were mentioned in passing.
Aside from that, I didn't really expect anything, I was as neutral as they come but suffice it to say, I liked the story since I read this is one sitting. It's a breath of fresh air, like Rhees's character.
I like how her character was presented. Just when you thought she doesn't have a backbone, she decided to let go for a while and conquer one of her biggest fears - the ocean.
She meets Paul at Paradise Divers, owned by him and things get interesting. He's the usual love 'em and leave 'em type but the girls know the score and are just flattered he uses them for a good time.
Rhees's relationship (if it could be called that) with Paul is a bit complicated, and I don't want to spoil anything but I admire Rhees and her conviction on her beliefs. She's really innocent, naïve, and too trusting. She sees the good in everyone and is emphatic, against all odds.
I understand where she's coming from when it comes virginity and marriage. I have the same views about it, saving one's self for that special person, and that sex must mean something to both, and not just a physical activity.
Paul becomes undone by her, he didn't want to be but even though he was an asshole and everything, she stood up to him and I gotta admit he really was annoying, because of that stupid pride, and assumption.
Add all of that to this beach setting that gives the impression of laid-back folks and parties. I just hated the part where jealous sluts ganged up on Rhees and outcasted her, it was a blatant action that made her feel that she doesn't belong.
If you're a fan of, or into scuba diving, you'll appreciate this. I don't fall under the two I described but I still enjoyed it. Best to have the next book ready after this one.
I'm not the best at writing reviews and usually only leave reviews for books I really like. This is a book I really liked! Wet was so fun to read and I loved the tropical environment and scuba diving aspect. So fun!
Rhees finds herself all alone in the big world. Not one to usually fit in, not even in her childhood home town, and sheltered her whole life, Rhees figures it's time to grow up and if she can face her biggest fear then there's nothing she can't do. Which is how she finds herself face to face with the big bad ocean.
Paul, womanizer, sexy as hell, could give a crap about anyone or anything except his dive shop and scuba operation, has met his match. And the one woman on the entire island he can't have.
The two find themselves in a tailspin shortly after meeting. Add together a little misunderstanding and a wounded pride, and you're left with a big messy situation on one little island. Regardless of how much they're attracted to each other, neither is ready or willing to give the other what they want for very different reasons.
Rhees does have a lot of growing up to do. And Paul can be a prick, and has some growing up to do of his own, but I'm still rooting for these characters. This book is part of a series and I am eagerly awaiting part two! Great job to the author, S. Jackson Rivera!
I love Rhees's purity, her naïve beliefs, it leaves me wishing there were a lot more young women who had her innocence. She's young, beautiful, sexy and yet she is oblivious to her affects on everyone she incounters. The added bonus, she's a virgin! After her parents pass away she decides to "live" and goes to an island to face a fear. When she gets there and starts meeting people and she literally experiences the whole world. The island attracts people from all over the world. She learns of their experiences and begins to realize how "young" she really is. When she meets Paul, she is unaffected by his charm. That throws him for a loop. He is a sexy, confident, arrogant, asshole and he has women lining up for miles to get in his pants. So when Rhees doesn't even try to hook up with him, he goes out of his character and asks her to go home with him. She of course rejects him. Which pisses him off and decides to be as mean as possible to her as pay back. The relationship that grows between the two draws you in, leaving wanting more. I love how without Rhees even knowing it she turns Paul into a man he never thought he could be. I absolutely can not wait for the next book to see where Paul Rhees go from here.
They say opposites attract. Sometimes that is true, as in the case of this odd couple.
Paul is a sophisticated man who also has street smarts, for lack of a better world. While his girlfriend Rhees is as innocent and naive as they come. But because Paul is reticent about his checkered past, the relationship works in a peculiar way.
He is able to live in obscurity and in anonymity on a remote island in the Caribbean. And he gets immersed in his hobby deep sea diving.
Life is good, or so it seems.
The author does a masterful job weaving an interesting plot with quirky characters to make the reader get absorbed in the story. The pacing of the book is smooth and steady, and the writing outstanding.
Rhees find herself at a diving school, tucked away on a Caribbean island. Pushing herself out of her comfort zone, after loosing both her parents.
Her relationship with the other island occupants was very sketchy, the girls were instantly threatened by her, the boys all wanted her.
Her first meeting with Paul who happens to be the owner of the Diving school did not go as smoothly as they both wished for, but she soon got on with things.
I really felt for Rhees, she was trying to accept her new normal. Life all alone, and even through she did not succumb to Paul's charms she did surprise just about everybody else.
Paul 'wanted' Rhees and did not stop his promiscuous lifestyle, but he certainly changed throughout their story.
The girls on the Island all had the hots for Paul, which was why they didn't like Rhees. He tried to punish her by giving her the horrible jobs around the school, but she was such a sweet girl, and just got on with it.
He endlessly pursued her, but she wasn't having anything to do with his pursuing. Even if she did secretly enjoy the attention she got from him.
When they became friends, Paul began to change his philandering ways, not that many people noticed, including his long time best friend Taylor.
I liked their closeness, they developed their friendship without all the drama of sex. It made them actually get to know each other.
Their friends around the island still disapprovingly of Rhees did finally began to warm to her, she dealt with some crap situations which developed her friendship with Tracey and Regina.
I hope they can make it; develop their friendship maybe take it to another level.
Paul became very protective of her, and I hope they can see a future together, although the cliff hanger doesn't hint much of a HEA.
Not your typical boy meets girl and live Happy Ever After, it appears they overcame some huge obstacles, but I think they have more to navigate if they are to work it out.
Its quite an addictive story, you are dragged into the book fairly quickly and don't want to not know what happens next.
I’m not sure what to say about this story. It was an OK read. One that would probably appeal to a much younger audience. (uh hum, giving my age away here) I think that I just expected more. The cover grabbed me and I may have built myself up too much. At 24 Reese is still a virgin and when she is seemingly unaffected by Paul he pursues her. A misunderstanding sees him become a complete jerk to Reese. I lost all respect for Reese and Paul when she told Paul she wanted to lose her virginity to him, he tells her that he doesn’t think it’s a good idea and then to prove a point gets all hot and heavy with her. As suspected she eventually freaks out and things don’t end well with them. I have two problems with this:- 1) Her reasoning for wanting to lose her virginity were in my opinion very immature . 2) He knew she would freak out but decided he needed to prove a point. If he was a gentleman he would have just walked away.
Perhaps part 2 will show some growth in Reese and Paul. I really hope so.
Please bear in mind that this is purely my personal opinion. Based on the other reviews this book has received, I may be in the minority here.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Enchanting story. I resented having to put it down to attend to things like real life. I'm not sure I've ever read such interesting conversations. I felt like I was right there, spying on these two people. The supporting cast is great too. Each character jumped from the pages with their own unique personalities.
There is a small misunderstanding which throws everything into turmoil and I didn't know if I wanted to laugh or scream at Paul to stop being such an a$$. The dance scene is oh my! Rhees has no idea how sexy she is. The part where Paul tried to apologize had me wanting to give Rhees a high five. Then what happens in her bedroom had me laughing and then breathing heavy as Paul took the situation from embarrassing to steamy. He can be a dream come true when he wants to be.
I didn't want the story to end. I was left a little stunned until I found out part 2 will be out soon. I can't wait.
Young Rhees gives herself the challenge of learning scuba diving and facing her fears over a myriad of issues involving socialising, sexual expression and 'fitting in'. Rhees has guts and determination and the author draws the reader into the world around Rhees which is full of sexual tensions, attractions and dynamics. The main male character in the book, the dive shop owner named Paul, is an arrogant man whom most of the girls on the island long to be with.
I liked the way the relationship between Rhees and Paul evolves and see-saws about much as real relationships do.
(Spoiler alert) Rhees battles with her own ideas about sex and sexual relationships and her own wish to avoid casual sex. There are hints at emerging difficulties which Rhees must face from her own past. Paul is attracted to Rhees and she to him, yet both at times are in denial over this. Despite their differences they settle to try to be friends.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
In Wet by S. Jackson Rivera, she paints a gorgeous plot with warm sand filled beaches, crystal clear water, thrilling diving scenes, and a drama filled relationship that leaves you on the edge of your seat as you finish the last page. I can easily see how someone could binge-read the entire series over a weekend.
Having only read the first book, my heart definitely went out to Rhees and I hated watching her suffer through the awkward situations and manipulations that her friends on the island put her through. Paul is an insufferable character who I really want to punch. But I can sense that there's a better person beneath the surface, and I'm hoping (fairly confidently) that by the third book, he will have seen the error of his ways and will step up to be the best man he can be.
If you're a romance fan, I'm confident that this is a series that you will thoroughly enjoy.
I love romance novels and it is my favorite genre to read. I was excited to read this story after reading the description. Rhees is going through a tough time as she has lost both of her parents. She's afraid of the world and afraid to grow up. Paul on the other hand has always been independent and is a world traveler. He hasn't really sought out commitment and is kind of afraid of it. Rhees isn't the type of girl that he would ever go for, but she's breaking down his walls and turning him into a completely different person. I liked how different the characters were from each other and how they still connected by things that happened in their lives. I will be looking for a sequel!
I don't really like reading drama romantic story because sometimes it can be so cliche. Though I don't often read this kind of genre, I gotta that the author did a fantastic job in bringing new stuff into this story. I like the creative and imagination work. The story line is pretty simple, but the way the author put too much attention in building up both characters make the book slightly different from the ones I used to read. One thing I really love is the fact that the author played my emotion by letting me to hate Paul so much and feeling sorry for Rhees. Overall, it's definitely worth reading.
Wet by S.Jackson Rivera is set in a fabulous tropical island location where everyone knows everyone. Rhees is the new girl in town and the newest student at one of the two dive schools on the Island. Although Rhees is strong-minded she has been sheltered her whole life and is both virtuous and naive. She meets Paul who is both hot and hot-headed. They are equally attracted and frustrated by one another at the same time. He hasn't come across someone that intrigues him the way she does. There is lots of drama and passion in this story to keep the pages turning. An enjoyable, well written read. Wet Book 1 is part of a series.
This story really captivated me . There are two main people who the story follows and it's a very jagged path . I love rhess so much she great so sweet lovely and naive and he his holy wow ( I would ) Taylor his best mate turns the story into a rollercoaster Friends or are they friends or just room mates .....the story will reveal The story is well told and well written the only downer is I've got to wait for the next book
who wants a boyfriend hangover? This book has one called Paul. I adore the nicknames with his name Paul-io (as polio), A Paul ing , so cute. My husband name is Paulo, so he is suffering from a case of hilarious nicknames too. I read in one night could not stop, the other day went to stalk the author! I need the next one yesterday! Great story! It goes to the favorites shelf!
I loved this book. Couldn't put it down! Can't wait to read the part two of the series! I received this copy as an advanced readers copy from GoodReads.
I have been pulled in by this story~ It is original, interesting and a fun read. It is on the lower side of my steamy meter but that is not always a bad thing. This book is more about people, emotions, and experiences vs steamy sex scenes. This book has a massive love-hate dynamic between the main characters. It has been an interesting ride watching their dynamic progress. I look forward to reading book 2.
The narration was good however there are a few characters that had very similar voices and it made it a tad confusing as to who was speaking but they were minor characters. All in all, it was pretty good.
Wet Part 1 is the perfect beach read. Paul is a frustratingly delightful character and my new book boyfriend. Rhees, on the other hand, is so innocent that I get just as irritated with her as Paul does. However, her pluckiness and determination to see the good in people has me invested in her story. I will definitely go on to read the next book in this series.
You can't go wrong with this sunfilled island escape.
This is a beautifully developed story with relatable characters. The writer took her time to finesse the push and pull between Rhees and Paul as they struggled against and then started moving towards each other; While at the same time developing the minor characters in a way that supported rather than distracted from the main plot. I thought the dialogue was sharp and the characters stayed true to themselves throughout.
This hook took me a bit to get into, but once I did, it was really fun. Although some parts were a bit wordy at times, the book has great content to it. The characters don’t give everything away from page one, and I loved getting to know them more and more along the way. I’m hoping in book 2, they get over the “will they? Won’t they?” Because you just want them to have their HEA already! Definitely will be reading book 2 to see what happens
