About the author

S.T. Seitz

S.T. Seitz writes emotionally immersive science fiction about broken people, fractured worlds, and hope that refuses to die.

She is a science fiction author, freelance writer, and editor who crafts stories about the future through the lens of what it means to be human.

With a background in biology and a lifelong fascination with living systems—human and otherwise—she creates near-future and speculative science fiction that blends big ideas with emotional depth. Her work explores themes of grief, power, and connection, grounding cosmic concepts in deeply personal stakes.

S.T. fell in love with storytelling in the second grade and wrote her first novel in high school, confirming early on that she prefers imagined worlds to the real one—though she remains deeply invested in both. Her novels in progress have been shortlisted for the Launch Pad Prose Competition and the Andromeda Award.

She lives in the foothills of Colorado with her husband, their wildling daughter, and a small menagerie of animals. When she isn’t writing, she’s outside marveling at the planet, worrying about the planet, or observing its creatures with gentle scientific curiosity.

I Couldn't Put It Down!

As someone who generally loathes reading because I can’t find a book to hold my attention, I was pleasantly shocked by how much I loved this. The dystopian genre is absolutely not what I would typically pick up off the shelf, but this story had my full attention from the very first chapter. I was binging it like my favorite Netflix series.

A Star Wars vibe with meticulous details, sprinkled with bursts of action:
The setting of Kraji immediately gave me Star Wars vibes, capturing that gritty, high-stakes atmosphere where rebels are desperately fighting against a tyrannical Empire. Many a conversation takes place in a central bar with a knotty, mossy-trunked oak tree growing through the middle of it, from which acorns are occasionally picked while throwing back a few. I was feeling the Mos Eisley Cantina, but with only two species (human and…you’ll have to read!). The plot is packed with gasp-worthy twists and turns, seamlessly woven between nail-biting action sequences that kept me flipping through the pages to see what happened next.

Masterful Dual Timelines:
The book structure helps break it down into manageable bites for a mediocre reader such as myself. By breaking up the chapters between the main characters' unique stories and timelines, the author lets you fully envelop yourself in their world. You get to completely immerse yourself in what is happening to Nith in one chapter, and then switch gears to experience the ever present tension surrounding Remedy in the next.

Visually Stunning Prose:
The vivid descriptions put you right into the characters' shoes. The author has a gift for world-building, using sensory details that make the setting feel tangible. Here is one of my favorite examples of the writing quality: "She grips the edge of the cypress table, the fresh wood giving beneath the pressure of her fingers. The dead man’s family would have cut it this morning from the hills surrounding Krajina, just like the chair he is sitting in. Both are a means to forever root the muert in Kraji."

If you think you don't like dystopian fiction, or if you struggle to find books that can actually hold your attention, pick this up immediately. It is an absolute page-turner that deserves a spot on everyone's Want-to-Read list. When you finish, you can rest easy because you won’t have to search for your next read…there are two more books coming in the Akman’s Angels series!

Death Remedy is a strong start to the Akman's Angels series. While it is technically science fiction, it often feels more like fantasy thanks to the rich worldbuilding, unique cultures, and immersive settings.
The story centers around the Kraji, a people whose entire culture is built around death. They have a deep concern with how a person dies and where their soul will end up. This creates a fascinating foundation for the story and the conflicts that have arisen since the end of the war. The post-war setting makes the world feel lived in and highlights how deeply history has shaped it.

At the heart of this story is Remedy, the daughter of a fallen General. Because her mother's spirit has not yet been put to rest, many people avoid Remedy, leaving her isolated and yearning to be needed and touched. On the other hand, we have Nith, an angel turned pigeon who begins working at the bar that Remedy frequently visits. I really enjoyed getting to know these characters and watching their relationships and interactions unfold. I also really enjoyed the plethora of side characters and their development throughout the story.

The world-building is deep and detailed. I found myself becoming more and more invested in the story as I read on. So much so that I even needed to jot down the different types of destinations for souls based on how the person died.

Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I look forward to reading the sequel in the future.

Death Remedy is a creative, exciting read! The world created by S. T. Seitz is reminiscent of Budapest, with its war-torn architecture and ruin bars. It has a dead-hero mindset, with many levels and traditions that guide its multicultural citizens. It is a rich, wonderful, and sometimes tragic world.

The main character, Remedy, has a brilliant mind and a damaged soul. The death of her parents and the occupation of her country have forced her into a life of being revered, but her guilt has her drowning her sorrows, trapped in crushing isolation, not able to touch or be touched. This loneliness sends her on a collision course with a genetically modified human with wings named Nith. Once, he was a war hero, an Angel. But after the war, his kind was classified as lowly Pigeons and treated like slaves.

I loved this book, so many great characters and adventures. It had me staying up late!

Death Remedy is an entertaining first book by author S. T. Seitz in their
Akman’s Angels Science Fiction trilogy.

The Earth of the future has been reshaped by its past of global war and the country of Kraji lays at the center of a land now occupied by the EO after being defeated when their genetically engineered warrior angels refused to fight.
FMC Remedy Ivanov is the daughter of an honored war hero, and MMC Nith a winged warrior disgraced because of his kind abandoning the battlefield.

Their paths will converge, a bond will be formed and traditions uprooted.

I enjoyed this story with its imaginative world building, engaging writing, drama, emotion, family dynamics, and character driven immersion into an amazing read that has me looking forward to the next book!

This book gripped me from the very start. It is an original story, and the world building is excellent. I could imagine the world they were living in and fighting for whilst reading. You felt the pain and fear of not being good enough to live up to the parents' wishes and the pull of forbidden lust. The final battle saw you rooting for them to win but questioning if they can. The book ends, leaving you wanting more. The only reason this didn't get 5 stars is that I sometimes found parts a little hard to read and had to come back to the book over a couple of days.

Nith oh my Nith the pigeon that you are, you infuriated me and made me fall for you all at the same time. Oh and poor Remedy, the shoes you had to fill in for the sake of the non-winged and angels. If you love to read about angels that fall in love with a human, a story about war and power stuggle between nations ✨️Death Remedy is that perfect book for you ✨️

ARC received. Seitz takes the dystopian genre somewhere I haven’t been before, and I thought it was great! Remedy and Nith are characters you actually believe in, and the dynamic between them is built slowly enough to feel real. The cultural stakes underneath it all give it weight. This one’s worth your time.

A great title for a great book. Couldn't put it down. Takes a look at racism and oppression, with strong, relatable characters. Strong story line and well paced action. This book stands well alone, but I can't wait for the sequel.
