Let’s be honest. Glen & Tyler go on vacation the same way the US Navy deploys: with much fanfare and crowds throwing streamers. Despite the pirates, smugglers, and the usual criminal crowd, this tale has hot men, Chemin De Fer, and some nice beach scenes. Come for the pirates, stay for the tight swimsuits. Oh, and rum. Lots of rum.
The author lives with a non-imaginary cat, and works in computer support (you know, the day job), all in Upstate New York. He divides his time between writing humorous suspense novels, reading science fiction and urban fantasy, absorbing too much British TV (or as his roommate would say "those crappy BBC mysteries"), pondering why he didn't write a scifi or fantasy novel, and his various hobbies. No, reading isn't a hobby. It's more like a vocation. The author also wonders how people get away with talking about themselves in the third person this way. It's awkward.

Are you ready for a James Bond type adventure, full of gadgets and clever surprises, and multiple spy agencies and their agents, all vying for a piece of the hijinks pie? Yeah? Then you’re in luck! This wonderfully over the top ode to the sleek, cheesy style that is James Bond fits the bill. I know it did for me!
Full disclosure: I loooooove Ian Fleming’s James Bond, love the books, love the character, love the gadgets and hyper-realistic universe in which it all occurs.
Now then, Sanders obviously shares this love, employing both slight nods to and utterly overt tackle-hug tactics in this latest story in the Glen & Tyler Adventure series. Like the other books, several stories and mysteries are happening at once, with many characters and motivations swirling around in all of them. Sanders manages to keep them all going at a decent clip without any muddle confusion or the feeling of being overwhelmed with detail in his efforts to maintain clarity and forward progress.
The dialogue is one of my favorite things about this book. Having read the others in the series (which I recommend doing: book 1 Honeymoon, book 2 Scottish Troubles, book 3 Paris Double-cross), the personalities of the characters, in particular Glen and Tyler, are crisp and clear and humorous. I laughed a number of times, especially when Tyler turns on his sarcasm full force. And Glen! Despite what feels like a minimized role in this story compared to the others, his character has laser focus on the purpose of that role and is the crucial turning point more than once. He’s also very good at helping maintain the whirling dervish that is Tyler.
I love love love love love Tyler and Glen......High Seas Hijinks was a nice new addition to their story. Not as long and detailed as the previous 3, but still so enjoyable. Meant to add - love the Bond nods!!!! Did I say this series was fun? Well it is HUGE AMAZING fun;)
Ready for an over the top, fun, James Bond-ish type adventure, with multiple mysteries all happening at the same time? Buckle up swashbucklers, 'cause Glen and Tyler are back and ready to take on spies, treasure hunting, and mysterious Bermuda triangle disappearances.
A little bit shorter than the other stories in the series, it doesn't lack for anything - it's adventurous, funny, witty, interesting... this has everything, including some pink submarines.
I like how Glen and Tyler are solid, but still have some things to learn about themselves and their relationship. I definitely appreciate these these stories much more when the guys are a team.
While there is some information on JB Sander's website about a possible fifth installment, it's been a couple of years so this might be the last time I get to spend time with the boys. I hope not, Mr. Sanders - I really hope you do end up bring Tyler, Glen, Nanna, and the team for more shenanigans.

There are a few places in which a time jump is used in conjunction with a location change. Extended development in these areas probably would have enhanced the story without posing much of a risk to the adventure-laden pace. The biggest casualty of this choice is the limitation placed on page time for some of the awesome supporting characters specific to this story, as well as the ones that have continued on from their own original appearances in books past up through now. One of the best is Nanna. :D
In this particular offering, we have a mixed salad of more than one mystery, a top secret military contingent, more special agents playing dual roles, Tyler’s brother Jeremy involved heavily in one of these stories, and the continuing evolution of Glen & Tyler’s relationship. Sanders is economical with his use of detail, providing a comfortable amount for forward progress without getting lost in the weeds.
Speaking of the relationship, it’s a rather small component to the story. Yep, Glen and Tyler demonstrate all throughout how well they know each other and work together, but without any hot and heavy sexy times. It works. This isn’t a romance, this is: fluff + adventure + a clever ruse or three + humor, and it all = book reading fun! It feels rather unique and, lucky for us, Sanders has this down pat, with his love for these kinds of stories coming through in the quality of his writing.
All in all, this is one of those stories where everything seems to work out for the good guys, the bad guys get their due without graphic detail but with humor and clever turns instead, way cool gadgets, and humor winding all the way through. Ya know, just like James Bond. ;)
Thank you, J.B. Sanders! I’m already looking forward to the next Glen & Tyler Adventure. :D
Glen and Tyler’s High Seas Hijinks By J.B. Sanders Published by the author 2015 Four stars
What to say? These books are fun. Glen Merriweather and Tyler Conrad are great guys – frat-boy jocks turned gay power couple. Ironically, Tyler has become just the sort of international corporate kingpin that his evil grandfather would have wanted hm to be, except for the gay-man-with-husband aspect of it. Glen, for his part, always loved Tyler, even before he fully recognized the gay side of who he was. What nobody anticipated is how good at this life these two would become, and how relentless in their ability to foil the bad guys they would be.
This time the boys are sailing in the schooner, the Black Douglas, that Tyler gave Glen one Christmas, and they’re finally taking the time to make use of the authentic pirate’s treasure map that was a first-year wedding anniversary gift (paper, you know, although I’ll bet it’s technically parchment). But, what is supposed to be a vacation for them turns out to be yet another complicated, expensive and dangerous international gambit that forces both Glen and Tyler to test their mettle against those who would spread crime and death for the sake of profit.
And they are asked to do a very special favor for a Very Important Person.
This book the parallel is made quite explicit: Glen and Tyler are James Bond as a gay couple. It is a game they play, a role they accept as inevitable with the kind of wealth they have. On other hand, they are also firmly monogamous, for all their pleasure in flirting for the sheer fun of it.
It’s funny, these guys are still very young, and they’re devoted to each other; but somehow the challenges of coupledom have not really hit them. In spite of all the crazy goings-on, all the money and fancy clothes and high-tech solutions to impossible problems, they still feel like a two kids playing cops and robbers. I’ll be interested to see, going forward, if their relationship becomes more textured. Fantasy is good, but reality can be pretty powerful as well.
Fun read. Nicely written. I continue to enjoy the adventures of Glen & Tyler. This one wasn't one of my favorites in the series. I look forward to the next installment.
The boys are back and as usual up to their typical over the top antics. They've already upset and turned topsy turvey a few criminal organizations why not play disruptor to some shenanigans going on in the Caribbean. Besides Glen absolutely deserves to spend some time out on his pretty new ship, even if Tyler feels the need to add all sorts of crazy bells and whistles.
The thing about this series is if you accept that obscene level of absurdity about it all, it's just so much fun. I love Tyler's ridiculous over the top assurance and having more money than God lets him just make the most obscenely over the top decisions and yet they work within the context of the story. I love Tyler and Glen's relationship, they do truly care about each other and are a wonderful support for each other's plans.
So ultimately these stories are a fun and fantastic break from reality. They're a wonderful dose of escapism and always make me smile.
OK, I’ll admit to profanity. I don’t dig Bond. Uber masculinity escapes me (not just Bond actually, almost all espionage movies flaunting macho white male supremacy and sexy minority women irk me). Anyway, that aspect doesn’t diminish my enjoyment of book 4 in Glen & Tyler’s adventure. I’m glad Glen has a more active role in this book and was pleasantly surprised Jeremy has found a boyfriend. Nanna continues to rock in her wheelchair, and I’m looking forward to what Glen and Tyler are going to do next after they’re bored with growing flowers :D
PS. I really like the bit where Glen and Tyler talked about why other people thought they were flirting around so much even though their relationship was pretty solid. It’s not often we find MM books where the couples honestly discuss their sexual discovery in believable and not mushy way.
Some Favorite Quotes: Tucker blinked "End game?" He looked around the room at everyone else. "Does he really talk like that?"
"Holy shit, you think I'm a Bond villain."... Tyler practically bounced in his seat. "You do!" Glen frowned. "That's ... not something to aspire to." "Well, no, but it's still kind of cool." Tyler turned his head to regard Glen critically. "You realize that makes you the Bond girl, right?"
"Ooh! Are we to the threats part of the conversation now? Cool!"
3.5* Didn't enjoy as much as Paris - got a bit too much Bond like perhaps! Carribbean pirates, sunken boats, treasure, pink rather than yellow submarines!, spies - we had it all, sometimes too much! Glen and Tyler continue to control the world effectively - what can they do next?? Good fun once again
The boys are back...A rollicking good time with a James Bond feel. This series continues to entertain with even more exotic locales. From start to finish, Mr. Sanders does an amazing job with the characters I have come to care about immensely. I cannot wait to see what the boys get into next.
Yes, it is completely over the top, and a little corny, but I loved it. I don't think anyone goes into this series thinking it's going to be realistic. The more over the top it gets, the more fun it is.
Light fun romantic mystery. Good for fans of 50 shades but with less overbearing control. Rich young man and money to burn and mysterious government contracts.
Have just re-listened to the audio book for the fourth time. One of my favorite elements of this story is how Glen gets to use his goods for some on-purpose seducing. I always have a great time visiting the Glen & Tyler universe. Highly recommend for a fun time!
So far this is the last in the series, but it seems that J.B. Sanders might have more planned, and I cannot wait!
This has been SUCH a nice surprise for something I took a half-hearted chance on. Maybe you need to be in the mood for plot-driven books, but this series was FUN!! And the inspiration from a lot of interesting universes like James Bond, Batman, Indiana Jones, 'The Davinci Code', made it action-packed WITHOUT being a direct copy. I think Glen and Tyler's adventures are inspired of some great universes, but this is not a case of plagiarising, these books are simply paying homage to some great stories!
In this one Glen and Tyler are called upon by their very important friend to go to the Caribbean to find out what happened to an undercover agent. At the same time they want to take out Glen's boat (gift from Tyler) AND find the treasure on the treasuremap, Glen got Tyler. Also in the Caribbean. Thirdly Tyler's brother Jeremy has slipped out from the security detail attached to him, and gone missing (but not for long)
In this one we have some smuggling (drug cartels), Mai Tai's, Hawaii shirts, undercover agents, a missing list of undercover agents, evil drug cartels with new bosses on the scene and Glen and Tyler doing their lovey-dovey routine. Also the treasure hunt, but that didn't get a lot of page-time. This was not as good as the other 3, BUT it was still a 4-star read for me, since Glen and Tyler are 4-star for me, ALL THE WAY! These 2 are at the top of my list of awesome, clever, nerdy MCs. And again: NO angst, NO horror, NO dark pasts, just love and epic-ness...
When the 5th book is ready it will be a one-click-buy for me! ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Rather shorter than the others, I think, so a quicker read, but that may actually have been a good thing. I recall getting rather bogged down in detail in the Paris story, so a quicker/shorter story may also have been less unnecessarily complicated. I had a bit of trouble remembering who was who in the very large cast of secondary & tertiary characters, because it has been a while since I read one of these - but it was still great fun and a nice treat!
I hope this isn't the end of this series. Is it unbelievable at times, yes, but I do enjoy reading the Glen & Tyler series. I wasn't let down by the latest edition. I do recommend reading the whole series.
I did something almost completely unheard of for me...I read a series book out of order. Shocking, I know! This was book 4 in the Glen & Tyler's Adventures series and the only one I have read. That fact definitely affected my enjoyment of this book. I spent a lot of time confused over who people were, what people looked like, and what references to past exploits were talking about. Those are all details that the author doesn't include because he is assuming readers have read the previous books. Not totally surprising, but frustrating none the less.
That said, I absolutely loved Tyler and eventually Glen. I loved the dynamic between them, they are obviously very much in love. I really can't wait to go back and read the first book to see how they started. Once I've read the other books, I'm sure I'll revisit this one again.
I was looking forward to this book for a long time and it did not disappoint at all. I love Tyler and Glenn and the adventures they get up to. I know the negatives of the book. How it is so over the top unbelievable. Well maybe so but it is fun to read. These books have been addicting to me. I love how they work together and the relationship is established. They love each other which is brought through as you read. Glenn always has a big reveal because he is smarter than anyone else. He has connections throughout the world. He even has the president on speed dial. He is one of the richest men in the world. It reads like the most cheesiest James Bond movie and I love it.
Reread: 23 May 2023 Loved it all over again. There's something free about reading this couple who can circumnavigate any obstacle regardless of restrictions and any trace of reality. With so much wrong in the world, this is an escape, pure & simple :)
Crazy over-the-top, in a delightful way. I love this series. Glen and Tyler are too much fun. The situations are Bondian, as is the ultimate resolution. I only wish we'd seen more of Tyler's grandmother in this book. She makes me laugh.
Crazy, over the top, and I loved it! These two celebrity billionaires are a cross between Tony Stark and James Bond, taking on missions of crime-fighting, out to make the world a better place. What a hoot!
I enjoyed this but it wasn’t as good as the earlier books in the series. Like the others, there were action scenes but they never really ran into much trouble. They always have the upper hand. That would usually drive me crazy but somehow it doesn’t bother me in this series that much. It’s kind of part of the over-the-top plot of the book.
I should say plots because there were a lot of them going on here. I can’t believe it’s such a short book. I wish they’d all come together in the end but only some did. I do like how the author linked things like that but I didn’t like how kept in the dark the reader was sometimes.
It was pretty funny, I even laughed out loud once.
Again, Glen wasn’t as useful but got more so closer to the end. He’s a professor so them treating him like he’s not as smart as Tyler is really annoying. Maybe he’s not but he’s still damn smart. They also talk like Tyler owns everything but since they’re married, they own everything jointly. At least they should pretend. As it is, Glen kind of sounds like a kept man. Since he’s not working, he should be part of Tyler’s operations.
I didn’t like the whole discussion about flirting and the woman in the red dress. It really did sound bad even in retrospect. They didn’t seem as head over heels in this one. In lust, absolutely, but not once did they say, “I love you,” to one another. Maybe that’s because a man wrote the book and guys don’t share their feelings as much. But other male writers manage it and I wish this author did too.
For those reasons and because this was less intense than the others, I’m rating it only lower. There’s one more book to go and I plan to read it soon.
