There’s a thin line between blood and madness.

Children of Night, Book 5

Early Twelfth Century. When the half-civilized Conrad Quintano stumbles upon a stacked battle on an isolated beach, his first instinct is to walk away. What does he care if a bunch of worthless vampires kill each other? But a dying ember of chivalry compels him to rescue the pretty female vampire in distress—radically altering the course of his already cursed life.

Present Day. Marc Fischer continues his desperate search for Elise, while his newly single twin sister, Julie, is hooking up with everything that moves—at least that’s how it looks to a jealous Armand. As the twins’ unusual abilities grow stronger, Marc makes the mistake of trying to protect Julie from what he’s learned about their true nature.

Meanwhile, Conrad’s relationship with Georgia—the vampire he saved centuries ago—is about to alter yet again. They’ve each been keeping dangerous secrets. Secrets with the power to destroy the entire clan. Now, with Julie’s life threatened, the Fischer-Quintano vampires will learn the most painful truth of all. No lie lies hidden forever.

Proceed with caution. Storm warnings and small craft advisory are in effect as romantic alliances form and re-form at random. Expect to encounter any or all of the old hippies, new friends, erroneous conclusions prematurely jumped to, and best-laid plans gone seriously awry—thanks in no small part to the actions of a certain impetuous Spaniard.

Once again a very captivating story which delves deeply into Georgia's background this time, telling us how she came to be what she is, how her life got tangled up with Christian and Conrad and at the same time more about Julie and Marc's uniqueness and their quest for the truth and a happy life. It kept me enthralled all through the book and I am looking forward to the next sequel.

P.G. Forte is the best author you're not reading! Whatever the genre, I know I'll be in love. Her imagination is stunning and her storylines are among the most unique I've read. While I adore all her books, her Children of Night series is my favorite. I'm always impressed by how much she can make you feel for the characters. They can do something I absolutely hate, then redeem themselves in another way. For example, Georgia, the heroine who this book was most devoted to. I loathed her in previous books, but began to admire her and have sympathy for her and her situation in this book. I'm intrigued and I can't wait to learn more of her story. Then there's Damian and Conrad, my favorite m/m couple of all time. I always look forward to their scenes and I devour the pages they are on.
Children of Night is more than your average paranormal series. It is so complex and the characters so diverse, with an ever evolving storyline that keeps me entertained from the first to the last page. I am beyond anxious to see what Forte has planned next for this series.

Latest installment in this addictive vampire series. So happy to see Julie coming into some of her Infragilis powers! In addition to the present timeline, each book has a past plotline. This time around we get Georgia and Conrad's backstory, when they first meet in Brittania in the twelfth century. Secrets on both sides are revealed, but there are plenty of ongoing plot threads to keep me on tenterhooks waiting for the next book.
Quibble: Still waiting to find out how/why Conrad and Damian broke up in the 1800s.
