Exhale: An Apocalyptic Survival Thriller

The emergency broadcast gave one simple Lock your doors. Seal your windows. Do not go outside.

When a freak, paralyzing super-storm hits the country, single father Noah does exactly what he’s told to protect his fourteen-year-old daughter, Esme. He barricades them inside their home, trusting the walls to keep them safe.

But as the days pass, the air inside grows unnaturally heavy. The neighbors stop answering their phones. A strange, suffocating lethargy takes hold of Esme, and Noah notices something unnatural blooming in the dark corners of their ceiling.

The storm outside isn't the real threat. The danger is already inside with them.

To save his daughter, Noah must do the break the seal and drag her out into the brutal, freezing elements. Because in this unforgiving new world, four walls and a roof no longer mean sanctuary.

They mean a death sentence.

This is no ordinary blizzard!

Exhale is a unique and outstanding survival thriller about a fungal outbreak that coincided with an unprecedented blizzard. Authority figures said to stay in place, providing perfect conditions for the proliferation of the pestilence. The writing is as good as it gets, with great characters, Will and Esme, A great plot a breakneck pace and a unique plot combining a meteorological disaster with a biological one, creating some of the most challenging conditions to survive that I've read. The true highlight is Esme. She is 14, thrown into impossible situation after impossible situation and only grew into a true survivor and partner to Will, not a burden. Overall, 5/5 stars, highly recommended for fans of apocalyptic survival thrillers and thrillers in general! I absolutely loved this book!!

The fungus!

Brad Knight's wild imagination reads like something that could really happen. The book was a little wordy. Some recapping of chapters that could have been left out. Esme is 14, yet acted much older. Dad seemed to know exactly how to maneuver everything, which I guess in a fungus world, would really help. I enjoyed the read.

Made myself finish!

A book has to be believable! Not the case here! I won’t even point out the numerous flaws in inconsistency and failure to connect the dots! This author needs to write children’s books! What a waste of time!

I stopped at the 25% point. It was just okay, but I needed something a little deeper.
