IT WALKS AT NIGHT is the ninth book in the River series--not counting the novella, RESIDUAL, that comes in between books one and two. (FREE on Michael Richan's website!)
This is a more self-contained story, and as such, I feel it can be read as a standalone novel with minimum prior knowledge. The characters of Roy and Stephen are called to help their gifted friend, Eliza when reanimated corpses begin trying to kidnap her young son, Troy. A few new characters are introduced, but only to further this particular storyline.
The story didn't veer too much from its main theme at any point, but each of the scenes were quite memorable on their own. There was one character in particular that I would have liked to have learned more about, and would love to see return in a future novel.
Roy's personality is in top form (for Roy!), and there were many laugh-out-loud moments as a result of this. I also enjoyed the fact that Richan put more emphasis on Eliza's son, especially now that he's nearing the stage where he may be discovering his own abilities in the not-too-distant future.
Another great addition to the River series and return of m favorite Father/Son duo!
