OMG okay, I absolutely did NOT expect this to be a 5-star read, BUT IT WAS??????
Like... whatever the other shorts in this series are about, good fucking luck topping this one. I can already tell it's going to be my favorite.
I LOVEDDDD the dynamic of the alpha being the smart nerd while also being buff, confident and having all the typical alpha traits.
And the omega was the one with all the attitude, trying to cope with his feelings and attraction by hiding his vulnerabilities, insisting on taking the lead in bed and acting all “dominant” (because there's no way he would ever beg... riiiiiight 🙄🥰)
WHICH IS SO SURPRISING because I usually HATE this dynamic, but here it just... felt right??? I can't explain it.

Ok, ok, still cute af, super hot, had a good premise, the bioluminescent plankton scene was amazing, but honestly, Finn was kind of... unbearable? No, wait, not really but like... he was maybe kind of the worst?
This is academic rivals to lovers but unfortunately the omega was portrayed as being really unreasonable and childish for someone so smart. Lucas, the alpha, didn't necessarily help things in the beginning but oof. Luckily, he had a little bit of a brat tamer thing going on that was both hot and served to make Finn shut the fuck up a bit, so wins all around.
Still liked it overall, mostly because once the heat starts and Finn becomes less coherent, he also becomes more bearable. And they really were cute and hot together!
BTW, the author has little bonus stories for all of these if you sign up for her newsletter and those have also been super cute!

This was my favourite of the series.
I'm not usually a big fan of enemies-to-lovers, but I really enjoyed this one.
I love the forced proximity trope, and this one delivered the goods.
Very hot, low angst, quick read.

Another good read of this omegaverse series. The premise was good, enemies to lovers, but it wasn’t as captivating and sweet as the others at least in my opinion. Finn is so opinionated and has a looot of assumptions that are all basically bs 🤷♀️thank f that Lucas compensated and made me want to finish this novella. What you see is what you get basically- stranded on a boat, an evil storm and a batch of suppressants that’s gone to shit. Than nature takes it course and pushes this two stubborn males into a heat (well one, the other is so helpful 🫠) The shiny plankton was cool 🫢 and the epilogue.

Ok this was adorable - Finn and Lucas are rival marine biologists who are assigned to the same research group and set sail on a boat…which happens to lose power in the middle of the night! And the heat just goes kaput. What are you to do but share body heat? How else would you stay warm? And if that happens to contribute to a sudden, unexpected heat…
Yes, I do realize the degree of my own ridiculousness. But this was actually so good. Finn and Lucas are fight-y and bite-y for a bit but they eventually calm down and we get one of the most descriptive and beautiful scenes I’ve read in a long while. They’re on the research vessel studying migration patterns of bioluminescent plankton and one night, after the heat, the plankton come to surface in their blue, glowy glory. Finn and Lucas have a conversation on the deck and the writing is just *chefs kiss* gorgeous. I can see it in my mind. Just beautiful.
This whole series has been top notch so far. I’m kinda bummed there’s only one more!

Another spicy omegaverse novella with an unexpected heat and forced proximity but this between academic rivals out on the sea! This was cute with bioluminescent plankton science stuff and an adventure at sea! There's spicy spice and swoony moments too! I very much enjoyed it.

I still really enjoyed this one but it wasn’t necessarily my favorite of the series Sudden Heat! I still like the trope of a mutual crush to start with and then they fall in love versus when one has a crush and the other starts to like them too!
I also appreciate that level of research Lillian puts into her stories because why did I learn so much about boats??? I wish more authors put in this effort to a plot line!!! All of her stories are made better because i can tell she puts effort into knowing what shes talking about within the story! Lillian Lowe could feed me pages of her shorts as food as I would be so satisfied!

The ''Rivalry'' was just Finn being petty and immature. Sure you have a good reason to be mad.. But that was 10 years ago and as a scientist/expert in a field, you have to know that the reason isn't really good enough to stay mad after all this time. I liked how Lucas wasn't taking any of his bullshit. He told him as it was. Also the ''surprise heat'' was a surprise mostly for Lucas, because Finn knew it was coming and just assumed Lucas would be mad and turn the boat away.. Once again not knowing Lucas and being petty.

I love how quick and spicy these books are. I loved the banter in this book and even though I didnt understand any of the science stuff, I didnt feel overwhelmed by the amount of information. They were cute and cocky. I definitely recommend if you are looking for a quick read.
