I really did enjoy this a lot! It got me out of a pretty severe reading slump. The premise was interesting and I genuinely really enjoyed the prose and writing. I do, however, really think this is a good example of a first novel that could have used a few more passes with an editor.
I also feel like this book could have used the extra ~80 pages that are standard for the genre. I wanted more interaction between Ella and Connor to both build trust and have flirty, flirty time. The end declarations kinda felt not built to. It's odd, but I think Ella's relationship (or lack thereof) with her mother was emphasized in the front half of the book, and I'm not sure we got a good steady pay out of that with the resolution. It was the opposite with Connor; there was some but not a lot of work done with their relationship and conflict at the beginning but there was a full resolution at the end.
That 80 pages would also have been good for building up Ella's relationships with the other characters. I love Jason, the brothers, and Dani, and there were definitely small moments between them and Ella, but I wanted more! I want even a single scene where Jason and Jillian have some kind of extended interaction. Even just observed by Ella!
Again, none of the above was a deal breaker - I had a really good time! I just wish there had been a few more passes by an editor to smoothe some of the bumps out. Please go read it and have a nice time!
