In a world where unusual creatures are hunted to extinction, very few survive. When Lugh finds herself in the crosshairs of the Kingdom's legacy hunter, she is forced to choose between keeping her vows not to harm others and protecting her friend dragon.
The legacy hunter, Liam, stands in the shadow of his father, the man who supposedly killed the last dragon. To prove himself to his father, and the kingdom, he is tasked to hunt the remaining unusual creatures.
When Liam sees Lugh for the first time, a flicker of doubt is placed in the back of his mind.
I was so lucky to read this as an ARC reader. This book brought to life all the kind of gothic fantasy atmosphere I love in the most beautiful way. Dark, haunting, and beautifully immersive. KL Williams has created a captivating world filled with eerie magic, mythical creatures, and a story that kept me hooked to the end.
I especially loved the gothic tone, the emotional weight woven throughout the story, and the symbolism in each chapter. The characters were intriguing, and the ending broke me.
My only reason for not rating it 5 stars is that there were a few moments where I wanted a little more depth (especially more explanation on the magic system) and a few areas dragged a little and in all honesty 1st person really isn't my thing as I had to stop and start a few time's.
Tropes + atmosphere: Gothic fantasy Magical creatures Some political medieval system Enemies to lovers Forced proximity Tragic story Reluctant hero Betrayal
If you love gothic fantasy, dark fairytale vibes, and emotionally devastating endings, then I definitely recommend giving this one a try 🩶

“Whatever lies past this, I swear I will find you, and I will love you with all that I am.” -Liam
This story is almost like a fairy tale about princesses and dragons, one that could almost begin with: "Once upon a time, beyond nine seas and nine lagoons, there was a kingdom..." In it, there is a cruel king and a hunter, only instead of a princess, there is a girl fighting to protect those who are weaker.
The writing is beautiful and the pages fly by. Luhg, a Guardian, must hide while protecting the world's last dragon. Her nature is to protect and help—never to harm another living creature. Liam is a hunter trying to escape his father's shadow and find his own glory. When the opportunity arises, in the king's name, he sets out to hunt the kingdom's enemies: the Demon and the dragon.
Their lives tangle together in a story about not giving up, even when it is hard to fight for what is right, and about discovered friendship and trust. The author managed to convey the story so powerfully that, in several places, my tears made it impossible to see the words. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I received an ARC for The Poisoned Rabbit. Im glad I got to read it but dang I wasn't ready for any of that. Lugh is a guardian she Protects the creatures of the Forests. Liam is a hunter. Liam is asked to kill the last dragon and the Demon it travels with. This story was beautiful, dark, and absolutely heartbreaking.

This was such an incredible read. The world building was like no other, easy to read and beautifully written. There’s was nothing I didn’t like about this story. Had so much reading it. Can’t wait to read more from this author.

3.5 stars. I received an ARC copy of The Poisoned Rabbit and I enjoyed reading it. The premise was interesting and I liked the concept of the guardians. I would have loved to see even more world building. I did find the pacing a little off, but overall a good story!
I loved this book. It is well written with enough depth, tension, romance and high stakes. I couldn't put the book down. I was so sad that the book ended. I didn't want it to end. The characters were realistic and lovable. There were enough twists to keep you hooked.
🐉😈🐇🐦🏔 ARC Review - Gothic Fantasy - Beautifullly written - The ending crushed me - Captivating world-building - Loved the mythical creatures 🏹🪻🐴🐺🏰 - 5⭐️
3.5 rounded up This was a no spice semi gothic romance, it did feel more YA than new adult but I did appreciate that it was then also a no spice book. It is more of a YA story giving semi Alice in Wonderland vibes. The FMC is a “demon” or “creature” (what the kingdom calls her) that protects the animals around her through feeling their emotions along side them. She feels their pain and their love and if too close experiences their injuries right along side them. Hurt the creature hurt the demon. The MMC was raised to hate her and her kind, a born and raised hunter, determined to make his dad proud as the kingdoms last great hunter known for ending many of the creatures. But can he truly hunt her? Will he find his own path?
