If you're a fan of cryptids and Lyle Blackburn, this is a can't miss. First, love the mass market paperback format! I would have tucked this in my back pocket, but I didn't want to damage it because it looks so good on my bookshelf. Second, these are a series of little 'monster bites', with witness accounts of encounters with the bizarre and unexplained. The first volume (yes, praise be, there will be more) covers close and personal sightings of bigfoot, goat men, ape people and much more. A thoroughly enjoyable read.

Really loved this, a great throwback to the classic cryptozoology paperbacks of the past. Looking forward to volume 2.

A great collection of by-the-campfire style stories by witness with introductions by the author. I was lured in by the retro cover and was not disappointed. Thrilled, actually. You may or may not believe in -other- creatures, the cryptids. Some of the details of these stories might change your mind. Either way, spooky and entertaining.

No one can match Mr. Blackburn's ability to write about fresh, intriguing paranormal encounters while at the same time catching the best glimpses of our nostalgic upbringing and loves. His presentation is always impeccable when it comes to looking like a book written in the late 70s/early 80s, but his words present new stories that many of us have never heard. I highly recommend this book if you enjoy cryptids, Blackburn's other work, or if you just like to be creeped out...truly a wonderful read. And it should come as no surprise, for his podcast, Monstro Bizarro, is hands down one of the best in the paranormal fields, which I found out first hand when I had the honor to feature his podcast on my paranormal/creepy online radio station a few years back (Sundown Radio). Great job, Mr. Blackburn, and can't wait for Volume 2!

Lyle Blackburn knows exactly how to scratch that cryptid itch. Terrifying Encounters feels like one of those old-school paranormal paperbacks you’d find on a dusty shelf and immediately have to take home. Bigfoot, Dogman, devil monkeys, goatmen, and other “did that really happen?” manimals all get their moment here.

What I liked most is that Blackburn doesn’t beat you over the head trying to convince you. He lays out the stories, keeps the tone grounded, and lets the weirdness do its thing. Some encounters hit harder than others, but the whole book is creepy, fun, and extremely easy to devour.

Lyle Blackburn brings his down to earth prose to the pocket paperbacks of yore with twisted tales of Sasquatch, devil monkeys, dogman, and goatman.

While not every story is believable, the reader is left to draw their own conclusions and ponder the mysteries of North American cryptids. The tales are sourced from direct interviews, fellow researchers, printed media, and online databases. They’re great stories at the very least and Blackburn has a wonderful way with words to make them interesting.

It’s a short read meant for multiple sittings but I couldn’t help but devour it as soon as possible. I look forward to book 2 in the series coming out sometime this year and the creatures may be more paranormal and fantastic, but Blackburn will make the stories come alive in only ways he knows how.
