“She’s here. I feel her.”
“Who’s here?”
“The one who’s mine.”

To the dismay of her family, Kris Edwards postpones college, despite a full-ride scholarship, and moves to the beach. She has a crazy feeling there’s something she has to find to figure out her life, and it’s at the coast.

She’s pretty sure that something isn’t Jericho, the too-hot surfer with amazing blue eyes. He’s way out of her league. And is that an actual electric spark that happens every time she touches him? She doesn’t have time for him—not with two jobs, a boozer neighbor, and her best friend’s stalker on the scene. Not to mention the weird black mist over the water or outside her workplace that no one seems to notice but her.

But there’s more to Jericho than Kris realizes, and she can’t blow him off so easily. He’s in tune with the magic of the tides, and only he knows of the evil that’s washed ashore and is coming for her. The closer Kris gets to him the more danger she’s in. But he can’t let her be—he’s been waiting years for her.

With Jericho by her side, Kris might find what she’s looking for. Or she might lose everything.

My last name is pronounced Dick-ee (’nough said).

I left the lucrative-but-boring field of accounting to pursue my dream of having superpowers, or at least writing about superpowers.

I dig surfing (even though I’m not good at it). I also greatly enjoy needlepoint. Yes, needlepoint. It’s wicked relaxing (and tremendously embarrassing to admit)! I love reading and tend to bounce from one genre to another depending on my mood. Favorite authors are Christopher Moore, Janet Evanovich, Carl Hiassen, and Christopher Paolini to name a few. I live in the great Midwest with my man, two kids, and dogs.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review (LoP or Lovers of Paranormal)

Kris just graduated high school and is staying in a beach house with her best friend before college.
She meets a hot surfer named Jericho who is not all he seems. She is also being pursued by another.
The whole book was focused on Kris becoming aware/seeing. The flow would stutter and became frustrating. I would be reading about one thing then all of a sudden it would change to something totally unrelated.
50% in, I still had no clue what the book was about or where it was going.
The main characters Jericho and Kris were annoying at best with the constant.
Kris come here... No go away… Come here, i need you.... No stay away, it’s not time. Grrrrrrrr
Before I knew it there were declarations of “I love you’s” being thrown around and not a drop of Romance in sight.
At 77% i finally new who or what Kris and Jericho were. Kind of. But there's never any clear explanation of what the non-human characters in the story are.

What are the supernaturals?
Why are they here?
What is their purpose?
What/who is the higher power?

I didn’t connect with any of the characters. Jericho was always disappearing to god knows where to do god knows what.. Derek and Kris were or weren’t together, Kris might have been raped. There were just too many situations that were so vaguely described it wasn’t very clear on what actually happened.
I zoned out so many times whilst reading this. It felt like I was reading this book forever.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the Goodreads group Lovers of Paranormal, or LOP

Spring Tide is a brilliant example of why I take part in read for reviews! I really, really enjoyed the first installment in K. Dicke's Tide series and I will definitely be reading the next installment, Tidal Wave (out Fall 2015) . This is definitely something to read if you enjoyed Jennifer L. Armentrout's Lux series.

The thing I loved most about this book was Kris' voice and character - I really connected with her, which is a massive plus for me when I'm reading a novel (big surprise there!). I loved that she had been developed really well by K. Dicke and this shows in the writing. Kris is sporty, loves to cook, hates jellyfish and is generally like most other 18/19 year olds: she spends time with her friends, she thinks guys are cute and she's finding her feet away from her parents. I also loved Kris' love interest, Jericho, I liked his mystique, his protectiveness, his surfing side, and his ability to give Kris space when she needed (I liked it that he wasn't overbearing this makes a change when compared to some other main love interests in recent novels). It didn't hurt that he was described as all kinds of yummy either! The secondary characters were developed as well to a high level which, in my opinion, really adds something to a story. If I had one critique about the characters it would be that Kris' mother and brother, although mentioned a few times, aren't really featured in the book that much and I find this hard to believe that at 18/19 she wouldn't have more of a motherly input - especially as it seems that she had a fairly good relationship with her.

But the thing I loved most about this book..? Its attention to detail. K. Dicke really put in her research! The detail around recipes, cooking, kitchen knowledge, and surfing really added a lot for me. I think this is partly because this is definitely a slow build novel and I can see why this will put some people off. But that's ok, because not everyone has to like the same style of writing, I prefer my books this way because I personally love the detail and character development that can occur as a result of this - but that's just me.

My main critique of this book was that I would really have liked to have explored the 'darks' more, I think K. Dicke could have made more of this. However, I haven't read Tidal Wave yet so I'm guessing the 'darks' and 'brights' will be explored more there - or hopefully anyway! My other small critique of Spring Tide is that the beginning of the chapters can be a bit confusing - I get that the reader is supposed to guess who is talking but locating it somewhere might have made it slightly easier to read (i.e. 'earlier that day, somewhere on a deck overlooking the shoreline') and then bring us back to Kris with an indicator that we were following her again.

This was definitely a great read and I look forward to more of the Tide series - in fact my impatient nature made me so frustrated last night when I finished this book (at 2am) that I had to get up and distract myself by transcribing some of my interviews (seriously there is no quicker way to send me to sleep!) so that I could forget about my frustrations and try sleeping again.

Thank you to both Netgalley, and Dirty Blonde Press for allowing me to read Spring Tide (Tide, #1) by K. Dicke in exchange for an honest review.

I didn’t know what to expect when I happened upon Spring Tide, but it sure wasn’t what I ended up reading! The story, while it was a fast paced book, the first 80% of the book feels slow. The last 20% of Spring Tide is where the magic happens -pun unintended- and the pace of the book is incredibly fast. Which was both a blessing and a curse. I loved that everything was fast paced, but I need more of the story!

There is two (2) points of view within Spring Tide. For the most part (and I do mean most part) the view is from Kris. Kris is a hard working girl who has a past that the reader doesn’t really find out about in detail; but is mentioned in kind of a passive way. Kris is a great character to be honest. I kinda wish I was like her! Kris is energetic, works hard, and tries not to let her past get to her. She always seems to find the good in people, and wants to help anyone she can.

The second point of view is…. I want to say a ‘Passive Narrator’ point of view. There are a few chapters spread throughout the book that don’t involve Kris, and is a backstage pass of what is happening around Kris’ life.

Spring Tide is such a whirlwind of a book. There is so much story fit into Spring Tide, I feel like I read 2 books in one! I’m incredibly intrigued about the second book, Tidal Wave. I hope to read Tidal Wave whenever I get my hands on it!

I picked this book by accident but was so glad I did. Spring Tide is one of the most intriguing paranormal books I’ve read. What I liked most about it was the complex mystery that started being woven from page one. If you’re the sort of reader that needs everything spelled out for you and every question answered to be satisfied, this story might not appeal. If you’re the sort of reader that doesn’t find interest in a gradually developed plotline, this might not be for you. I genuinely enjoyed putting the puzzle pieces together and having a few dwindling questions remaining at the end. To me, that’s what a truly good series is about, and I greatly look forward to the sequel.

I loved Spring Tide! The style of writing that the author used helped me to connect with the main character, Kris, who is very relatable and had me rooting for her from start to finish. Spring Tide ends with a huge cliff hanger and I WILL be waiting rather impatiently until the next book in the series is released. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves to be completely submerged into a good book.

Paranormal Romance is one of my favorite genres. I'm drawn to the mystery of what the paranormal aspect is going to be in each book I read. There is an ever growing list of possibilities it can be, especially now a days. Spring Tide, was a pretty good paranormal romance. It was different, not like any other PR (Paranormal Romance) I've ever read.

Kris just graduated high school and is staying in a beach house with her best friend before college. Like every other high school graduate, she has no idea what to do next. She's not quite ready for college but is too smart and talented to waste away and do nothing. She meets a hot surfer named Jericho. He manages to get her to drop her guard and fall for him. The truth about him and Kris is about to come out, can he keep her safe, when the person after her has already made his move?

This book might be good but it wasn't great –it didn't make it to my favorites list. I got confused a lot when there was a conversation going on. It was easy to get lost and not know which character was speaking. Obviously, I caught on quickly but it happened throughout the entire book.

I enjoyed the storyline, it was different and I'm glad about that. It was refreshing to read a book that wasn't the same old, same old. I love how smart Kris was! She had a full-ride scholarship, I can't believe she would take time off school but she had a full-ride! I don't know anyone that would take a break from school if they had a full ride but to each their own.

The characters didn't really seem to connect with me. I just didn't feel like they were as close as their relationship was being described to me. With the exception of Kris and Derek, I felt their friendship and I could also tell Kris liked him more than just a friend. For some reason I just wasn't really feeling Jericho and Kris' relationship. I don't know why but I just didn't. I did like how protective he was of her though.

I am a very fast reader, it usually takes me a couple of hours to speed through a good book. But with this book, I felt like I was reading forever! I was beginning to think I was never going to finish it. Even though it really only took me a day and a half to get through it, it felt like so much longer.

This book is quite unlike anything I've ever read before (if I had to compare it most closely resembled the Mortal Instruments Series). A lot of books, particularly paranormal ones, tell the reader everything up front and use the paranormal aspect to guide the plot and create the climax. Spring Tide uses the plot to build up to the paranormal aspect. I enjoyed not knowing what was going on the whole time. It helps the reader understand what Kris is going through and connect with her.

That being said, I liked the characters and thought the character development was great, especially with Jericho (yum yum!). While I agree with fellow reviewers that the writing style is a little jumpy in switching from POV to POV, I sense that it's that way for a reason, particularly so the reader is thinking constantly about what could possibly be happening. I don't think this book was intended to be a fluffy read that you could just sort of mindlessly sift through, but a mysterious thinker of a novel.

Despite the need-your-noggin aspect (I started and finished in the same day and wasn't reading all day or up ungodly late [oh, and I read it twice in two days]), it was one of the smoothest and quickest reads I've had in a while (I read a LOT so I'm not just blowing smoke here). While the beginning was a little difficult (mostly because I was saying "what in the world is this about?!), I was still intrigued, especially when Jericho arrived on the scene. I loved reading about the surfing as that's something I'm not exposed to in the Midwest, but I am having difficulty understanding it's relevance to the plot - I have theories and expect we may learn more in the next book (which I am anxiously awaiting).

I can understand my fellow reviewers frustration with confusion. I feel that a lot of this is a result of the sheer amount of information packed in the 300-or-so pages. And connecting the dots in my head resulted in tangles and snags. But sometimes you've just gotta go with the flow.

This book will not be everybody's cup of tea, but I highly recommend giving it a try, keeping in mind that it isn't a passive read.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I read a lot of free-cheap books from indie/up-and-coming authors. I have read some that were better than this one, and some that were much worse than this one.

Most of my issues with this book would be resolved by it having a strong editor go in and do some tweaking. The story itself is fairly solid. This is a supernatural romance, but there's never any clear and satisfactory explanation of what the non-human characters in the story actually are. They don't seem to really know the answer to that themselves. This is the first book in a series, so maybe that answer would come in the next book. But I more than likely won't be reading it to find out the answer to that.

The characters could have been developed better. I didn't really think any of them were relatable or even that I really knew any of them that well by the time the book was over, and not even because of the supernatural elements.

Kris and Jericho had some sweet moments together, and they each had their own secrets they were keeping from each other. That was basically what seemed to be keeping the story going as it went on.

There were certain elements of this story that made me uncomfortable. There were situations that were vaguely described so the reader isn't very clear on what actually happened. Normally I don't really mind that, but in the situations in this book there was a chance the main character was raped, or nearly raped, or could have been raped. I really did not like that aspect of this book.

I've done nothing but complain about this book, but I did finish it and I did enjoy it to an extent. I think the story could have been much better fleshed out and the book much better written. But for a free book, it isn't a bad read at all.

The little tidbit I read that this book was about is what drew me in. A girl just out of high school with a summer ahead. In a place with her friends, sharing a condo in a place where she needs to be not just anyplace but Corpus. But he is coming too because he knows she is there and so will some others. Talk about intriguing so much so the curiosity factor is on high especially since I know this is bound to be filled with mystic and of course in the nature of the paranormal where the possibilities are endless. It basically centers around this girl Kris whom is the one who will be unfolded in this novel with just how special she is with odd things happening slowly at first but proceeds to accelerate. Also when she has a certain customer that turns her eye Jericho inches his way into her life. There is also another mysterious man that she encounters that at first you the reader think ok but first impressions can be deceiving. After a traumatic event that are combined with odd occurrences this author by now really has you sewn up in this story with unbreakable thread. You will learn just how special Kris really is and how different Jericho is with some others. They are also bidding their time when Kris is aware but with the light there is the dark and they also want Kris. At times you want to shout at her-Danger Danger but alas she can not hear. The special relationship is also different that grows between Kris and Jericho which in itself is refreshing. When this story peaks this author has you well and truly captured yourself with Kris having grown quite abit by then that you are left drained but yearning for more.

* I received a copy of this book from the publisher/ Goodreads giveaway

After receiving a copy of this book, I really wanted to like it and it sounded fairly interesting. Kris Edwards is a recent high school graduate living at the beach with her closest friends. Working various jobs and putting off going to school, Kris is enjoying the summer until she meets Jericho, a mysterious and good looking surfer.

Why is Jericho so mysterious? After reading the book I still don't fully understand, and it took most of the book (239 pages) to get to his explanation of his powers. By then, my curiosity had subsided, especially since Kris had an underwhelming lack of interest as well. Despite the fact that she slept for THREE days straight and could barely touch him, Kris has a surprising lack of interest in actually getting any answers.

Despite losing interest in the characters fairly early on, my main issue with this book is that it contains far too many half plots that are discussed in random paragraphs- I was never really sure if the perspective was changing, or if I was missing something. Many paragraphs simply ended and moved on to a new scene virtually mid sentence, never to be mentioned again. I never really understood Kris's back story and plots that seemed so important were dropped.

The one bright spot in this book was Derek; I wish we'd been given more chapters with him and I would have been far more interested in this book had he been Kris's main romantic interest.

"Spring Tide" did pick up in its final scene and did set up the sequel in an interesting way. Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy this book as much as I wanted to and won't continue on. Hopefully, lovers of the paranormal genre will enjoy this more than I did.

**I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review
Against the wishes of her friends and family, Kris Edwards decided to take a year off of school before starting college. She and her friends are spending the Summer at Corpus Christi, where she plans on spending her year off. While there, she meets Jericho, a surfer who won't give up no matter how many times she turns him down. When she finally relents and starts to date him, she feels very much at peace as they start to connect. However, she feels there's definitely much more to him than he will admit. She's just not sure if that's good or bad.
Overall, I liked the characters of this story. It was mostly in Kris's POV, but the snippets in Jericho's are what kept me reading. His POV let you know there was definitely something big going on while he's determined to show Kris that she's the one he's been waiting for for years. The story itself is very slow moving. Nothing really happens until close to the ends. Then it kind of cuts off and you are left waiting until the sequel comes out. I would recommend it for those that don't mind a slow build into a new supernatural world. The characters are interesting to follow and almost make it worth reading.

I was a First Read Winner of this book, and I really wanted to like it more than I did. I read a lot and if a book does not grab in the first few pages I get worried, because once it feels like a chore to read I tend to give up. But since I won the book I wanted to give it a fair shot so I carried on. It did get better however the pacing of the storytelling was off with long periods were nothing was going on, I do believe the Author is very talented, but for me the book jumped around to much, I often found myself looking back to see if I missed something, I wanted to get to know the characters better and more of a back story. I also did not understand the romance between our main characters it felt very junior to me, and when we at long last finally find out what she/they are it felt superficial, leaving me with more questions than answers. The ending felt rushed with too much happening out of nowhere, the book does end with a cliffhanger of sorts, but I for one will skip the next book in the series. It always makes me sad when a book does not work for me, but since so many other reviewers liked it, I am sure K. Dicke will have have a bright future.

I was given this book to write an honest review from the goodreads group LOP lovers of paranormal.
I did enjoy the book however found it very slow.  It took a while to get in to it and I will admit I struggled.
I liked Jericho's character he was very yummy but I feel there was alot of unanswered questions surrounding him or some further explaining was needed. For example he went away a lot but never really went into detail that much about what he did other than helped others.
Kris im not sure about her. She left everything and moved to the beach but it never really explained why! Was she raped? Was it her calling? Unless I missed it im not sure why she did it. Her character.....liked everyone she met, wanted to help everyone she met but She had vrry little substance, she lacked so many characteristics that you expect from a book character.
The ending happened very quickly and the entire book built up to that point at a slow pace and I was very much like 'oh it's ended' Not sure if I will be reading book 2.
Thanks for the opportunity to read the book.

I received a copy of this story from Net Galley. Yay books.

Spoilers possible ahead...

So...I'm not exactly sure what I just read. Parts of it was fine. It just seemed to throw everything at you at the end.

And what the hell was up with that ending? What did it mean? I don't even know what questions to really ask, because I don't know what the hell happened. Even though I was there 'til the very end.

I just...

I don't...

Uughhhhh...that's all I know right now.

I feel like I just read a book that did a lot of jumping around. Not only in the writing style, but the characters as well.

The story started off great, it did. It's just the last 20% of it that I'm having problems with. That and a lot of the really weird parts you come across...like the very start of it, and when it starts in someone else's POV. Those parts just left me feeling like I missed something major.

I'm don't like that.
