Fake dating the man I've loved since I was sixteen to escape my stalker ex? Sounds exactly like something that would happen to me.
Jennifer Blakely had done the work. She'd made peace with her best friend Adam leaving, first for college and then the NFL. She'd learned to live with the years apart and the feelings she'd had to hide — tucked away so carefully she'd almost believed they were gone. When he returns to their Pennsylvania hometown, eight years of careful convincing unravels in a single look.
The timing couldn't be worse. The Mayor's son, her ex, has been leaving voicemails she's too scared to delete, showing up in places he shouldn't, and looking at her like she's something he owns. But in a town his father controls with an iron fist, no one ever steps in to stop him.
No one… except Adam.
Jennifer would find it a lot easier to say no if she didn't still have feelings for him.
Adam spent eight years avoiding her to try and bury the feelings he had for her. Coming home was supposed to clear his head, to help him decide the next phase of his career and yeah — to see Jennifer. Instead, he finds her constantly looking over her shoulder and pretending she's fine when he knows she is anything but. After seeing her ex, protecting his person became his sole purpose. Keeping her close was the only thing that made sense.
He wasn't prepared for how fast being by her side became something he didn't want to give up.
Her ex is watching. And he is running out of patience.
The danger is real. So are the feelings. And they are running out of reasons to keep saying it's all pretend.
I thoroughly enjoyed this read and i’m very grateful that I got the opportunity to read it as an arc. I could go on and on about how much I loved the mmc and fmc’s dynamic and just everything in this book but I would be here literally all day. I think the fact I finished this in a day should show how much I enjoyed this. They were so freaking cute and i’d love if there were more books coming to turn this into a standalone series.
The only reason I didn’t rate this higher is because I don’t think the third pov writing style is for me, but that shows that even though that did deter me at first and it may put you off too that you can look past that because the rest of the book was so enjoyable.
This book was just so out of my normal reading tropes, but i’m so glad I gave it a chance, because I loved every minute of it. And you should give it a chance too when it releases on JULY 14TH🤍

“You can still count on me to keep your ego in check.” “Yeah” Adam slowed, the soft pressure of his hand making her turn to face him. “You always were the better part of me.”
~
“No, he never got her… but fuck, sometimes he wished he had been brave enough to try.”
~
“He would hold her for as long as she let him and wish for even longer.”
~
“Jen: Come over? Adam: Is that really even a question?
It wasn’t, and they both knew it. Wild horses couldn’t keep him from getting to her.”
~
"Life is full of what-ifs…You can't escape them; you can only choose which ones you want to live with.”
~
“Yes, Jen, I love you. I’ve loved you since we were kids; first as friends, now as my everything.”
~
“He glanced back at the stands to see her eyes on him as she smiled. He wasn’t sure how life could get more perfect than it was right then, but he looked forward to seeing it try.”
I had the pleasure of receiving this as an e-ARC and voluntarily will be giving my honest review. I absolutely loved this story! The dynamics of the FMC and MMC was phenomenal loved their chemistry! Please make sure to read your triggers has this does have some difficult topics of DV but it is done very respectfully! You could feel the tension when things went down and the emotions just like you were there with the characters! The banter was phenomenal as well!! This book will have you hooked from the very beginning to the end!! Chefs kiss R. Katze you did an amazing job with this story as usual!!

🏈 Fake Dating 💛 Friends to Lovers 🏈 Childhood Best Friends 💛 Protective Hero 🏈 Sports Romance 💛 Romantic Suspense 🏈 Second Chance Romance 💛 Small Town Romance 🏈 HEA
Adam Thompson, the local NFL hero, comes back home to consider his options before making a big career decision. He’s stayed away from home for a while, and things around here have changed. Including his childhood best friend, Jen Blakely. Coming home means dealing with feelings that have been buried for years and learning that life can still surprise you, that being strong isn’t something you have to do alone, but that sometimes it takes a whole village.
I’ve been disheartened by FM romances for quite a while now, so I’m not going to lie, I went into this ARC a little apprehensive. I’m happy to say it turned out to be exactly what the doctor ordered! This is a story written with love and respect for its characters. At no point did I feel frustrated by the kind of random and nonsensical decisions that so often I find in FM romances. Instead, I enjoyed every minute of it. It wasn't always an easy story, but I thought it handled its more difficult situations with care and sensitivity.
Some of the sweeter moments reminded me of Love Among Thieves and it is the kind of romance I’ve really been missing in FM books.
I read this shortly after Home Ice, a book I really struggled with. (If I had read "my best friend" one more time, I was convinced I was going to lose it!) What R. Katze does so well here is understand how relationships actually work. She takes the time to rebuild an authentic connection between two people who have always loved each other, but who don't really know each other anymore. The attraction has never disappeared, but Adam and Jen have to learn how to communicate again. In many ways, it reminded me of Finest Kind of Fate, where the characters recognize that time has changed them both. They don't fall in love with old memories of who they were, but they get to know who the other person has become and choose to fall in love all over again.
Another aspect I really appreciated was the way the book approached some particularly difficult topics, especially . Too often, books take the easy route: they simply tell that someone went to therapy for a while, got better, and move on. R. Katze digs a little deeper into what reclaiming your life can actually look like, while still keeping the overall tone of the story light. I would have liked a few moments to be developed a little further, and I wish some of the emotional situations had been explored deeper. That said, I understand this is meant to be a lighter romance.
The only thing that really didn't work for me was the number of editing mistakes. There were quite a few spelling, wording, and punctuation errors. Since this was an ARC, I know it isn't the final version, but I was still unpleasantly surprised that more of them hadn't been caught before it was sent out.
Overall, this is a story I'll remember fondly and an author I'll definitely be coming back to.
Thank you to Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op and NetGalley for providing an eARC for an honest review!
Overall, a very even experience - started out well and followed through.
The book covers some very heavy topics (DV), but does it very tastefully, in my opinion, so that it doesn’t feel like just a plot device for easy drama. Yes, it drives the plot forward, but it's given a lot of page time to focus on the feelings of victims and how it's never their fault and they deserve their happiness. I really enjoyed how much thought and empathy was put into it.
The tension was there in the right places - both as chemistry between the characters and when shit went down. The couple has an easy rhythm and their banter and constant touching were cute. You could clearly see that they’re comfortable with each other and it allowed you to fully accept the ending as something natural for them. When the drama happened, the book became gripping and your nerves were strained thinking to what extent things would escalate before someone steps in. Good stuff.
Also, I’m a sucker for when people come together to stand up for someone, so when the town backs her up and helps her with her opressor, of course, I couldn't help feeling satisfied.
The side characters are an added element that I really liked. The parents, the agent, the sports people, even the villains. Thoroughly enjoyable.
When it comes to the issues I've had, there are very few I've had with the actual text.
There was one spice scene right after the first one which I thought made everything sound repetitive and felt like an unnecessary addition. It wasn't needed, sounded very close to the previous one, and occurred in too quick a succession. It's a good scene, but it wasn't the place for it.
And I don’t know if it’s something with the file or my Kindle being a little menace, but every time I started a new chapter, it send me back to the trigger warning. It was annoying as hell, because I had to pay attention to the chapters I was in at all times, and that slowed me down.
In conclusion, I do recommend giving it a read, especially if you can handle some heaviness and want to see men punished for their actions. It really speaks to my vindictiveness.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for letting me read the ARC!
Thank you so much to R. Katze for a copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
~ Summary ~ Childhood friends Jen and Adam were once inseparable, but life pulled them in different directions. Jen still lives in their small town working as a high school teacher, but life has taken an unexpected turn that has her trying to escape an abusive ex who also lives in the same town. Adam, an NFL star, returns to town facing a major career decision. When Adam steps in to protect her, their old bond sparks into something deeper, and he suggests they pretend to date to discourage her ex from continuing to stalk her. But her ex’s threats loom large, and the small-town police force offers Jennifer little help. As she fights for her safety, Adam is forced to choose between ambition and the love of his life. Together, they navigate danger, second chances, and the kind of love that refuses to back down.
~ Thoughts ~ When given the chance to read a new romantic suspense novel, I will always say yes, so when I was given the chance to read an ARC of this book, I jumped at the chance. This story pulled me in from the beginning and never let go. This had the perfect blend of small-town charm and romance mixed with the tension of an abusive ex who wouldn’t leave her alone. It drove me crazy how anytime she tried to get help from the police or anyone official in town, she was stopped every time. I immediately fell in love with Jen and Adam together, and he was a great protective MMC. I also think the author handled the domestic abuse storyline well. I also appreciated that the romance began after she had already left her abuser. The balance between romance and suspense was perfect, and I didn’t want to put this down for a second. This was the perfect small-town romantic suspense novel I didn’t know I needed.
𝘼𝙙𝙫𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙥𝙮 𝙧𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙚𝙬 𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙚𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙙 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝘼𝙪𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙧 A heartwarming read. This book had the friends to lovers, he falls first, small town vibes! Adam and Jen were best friends from childhood but they drifted apart as they got older and specially when Adam made it to the NFL and moved. They both had feelings for one another but because they didn’t want to risk the chancing of ruining the friendship (yes cue Taylor swift’s song) in pursuit of more they never made any advancements. In light of a situation happening with Jen, they agree to fake date for her protection.
This book touches on sensitive topics, so please do read the trigger warnings. The way it was executed was done so well. Jen is a sunshine but she’s also a strong survivor. It was moving to watch her gain the courage to stand up for herself and see the community come together to stand by her.
Adam is a golden retriever. He’s protective, supportive and a gentleman. The way he portrays his love and care for Jen is so cute!!
If you are itching for a quick read that has the friends to lovers, small town, he falls first, fake dating and a dash of sports romance, check this one out.
Thank you R. Katze for the opportunity to read an ARC.
I am absolutely loving this series! Best friends to lovers has always been one of my favorite romance tropes, and this book reminded me exactly why. There is just something so special about watching two people who already know each other so well finally realize they’re meant to be together, and Adam and Jen’s story delivered that perfectly.
Before anything else, I do want to mention that this book covers some heavier topics, so I definitely recommend checking the trigger warnings before diving in. The author handles these moments with care, and while they add emotional depth to the story, it’s always good to know what you’re going into.
Now… Adam.
Can we all agree that he is the definition of a golden retriever book boyfriend? He is sweet, caring, supportive, and so incredibly lovable. The way he loves Jen and always wants what’s best for her completely melted my heart. He’s the kind of MMC who makes you smile every time he shows up on the page because his heart is just so genuine.
And Jen was the perfect match for him. I loved watching her relationship with Adam evolve from friendship into something so much deeper. Their history together made every romantic moment feel even more meaningful because there was already so much trust, comfort, and love between them. Their chemistry felt effortless, and it was impossible not to root for them.
The small-town atmosphere was another one of my favorite parts of the book. It had all the cozy, close-knit vibes that make this trope so much fun. Everyone knew everyone, everyone had an opinion, and the whole town was so invested in Adam and Jen’s relationship that it had me laughing more than once.
And let’s talk about the bets!
The entire town placing bets and getting involved in their relationship was absolutely hilarious. Those moments added so much humor and charm to the story and made the town feel like a character in its own right. It brought such a fun, lighthearted energy that balanced the more emotional moments perfectly.
Overall, this was a heartwarming, emotional, and incredibly sweet romance with two characters I couldn’t help but fall in love with. Adam and Jen’s journey was everything I wanted from a best friends-to-lovers story, and the small-town charm, lovable characters, and laugh-out-loud moments made it even better.
If you love best friends to lovers, golden retriever MMCs, small-town romances, and stories with plenty of heart, this is definitely one to add to your TBR. I absolutely adored it!
This was an easy, somewhat slow read that I enjoyed but didn't like enough to want to read more by this author. My biggest issue with the book was the dialogue. It was extremely distracting how infrequently the characters used contractions while they were speaking. I'm not usually really particular about that kind of issue, but it happened so often that it couldn't be ignored. The lack of contractions made the character interactions feel so stiff and unnatural, and it just immediately took me out of the story every time it happened.
The characters were the high point for me. Adam was sweet and protective, and Jennifer was a strong, yet vulnerable heroine. Their relationship was loving and tender, even with rather mediocre chemistry. The small-town feel of the novel allowed for a family-focused story with an emphasis on relationships over success. However, I wish the danger with the stalker ex had been resolved differently. There was so much buildup, and I was disappointed with how easily it was tied in a bow.
Overall, this was a romantic, low-stakes book. I recommend it to those who really enjoy sports or second chance tropes. *I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.*
Fake dating her childhood best friend and long time secret crush, what could go wrong?? Jennifer Blakely made her peace with her best friend, Adam, leaving for college and ultimately the NFL. 8 years of hiding her feelings comes crashing down when he returns home to visit. On top of that, her ex, which happens to be the mayors son is leaving her voicemails, following her, and acting like he owns her. Despite what he’s done to her, no one stands up to him…no one except for Adam. He’s also spent 8 years burying his feelings for her. He’s supposed to be home to clear his head and decide where he wants to take his NFL career. Protecting Jennifer seemed to be exactly where he was supposed to be and having her by his side is the only thing that made sense. Danger is real and near. Adam has a decision to make. How long can they both pretend that their feelings for each other are fake?
Adam is in my new top five book boyfriends! Protective in all the right ways, comforting, smart, loving. Jennifer is also one of my favorite female characters! She doesn’t back down from a fight while also trying to protect those around her. You could instantly sense the chemistry between the two and were rooting for them the entire time! Their communication is top notch throughout the story. Neither of them want to ruin their friendship, especially after missing out on 8 years with one another, and you could just feel the yearning from them both. I laughed, smiled, cried, and got angry. The side characters added balance and layers to the story. I absolutely devoured this book. It was such a good read! I cannot recommend it enough!

I love a story where the main characters know each other so well that their friendship provides a strong foundation for their relationship. That is certainly the case with Adam and Jennifer. The author pulls you into their world, and it's easy to become invested in their journey as they finally take the leap from friendship to something more.
The plot dynamic involving Jennifer's ex adds another layer of depth to the story. The author's portrayal of their past relationship feels authentic and believable, giving Jennifer's emotional journey greater impact. Adam's response to the situation only makes him more endearing, as his actions and unwavering support highlight the strength of his character and deepen your appreciation for him.
Adam and Jennifer will steal your heart with their relationship journey. Their connection feels genuine, their chemistry is intense, and at times the romance is undeniably hot. This is the kind of love story that leaves you so satisfied that it immediately earns a place on your reread list.

*Have received an ARC* of ‘Hearts on the Line’ and let me just tell you, the title says it all! The book is about friends reconnecting after life drew them apart and discovering their love for each other. That in itself would be a cute and lovely story but what we get is something more. We get suspense, when the villain disappears, we get heartbreak when we get a glimpse of what the female character went through in her relationship with the villain, we get friendship when finally people get behind her and give her their support, we get the small town feeling, that I absolutely love and the best but thankfully not present only in the end, we get their love! How they discover each other and the development of their relationship and the though decisions that came with it. Like my favorite quote from the book "Life is full of what-ifs, Adam. You can't escape them; you can only choose which ones you want to live with.” And isn’t that right?! It was a very good story and I enjoyed it and recommend!
I absolutely loved the relationship between Adam and Jennifer. While parts of the story were somewhat predictable, it never took away from the experience. Instead, it made the journey feel comforting, heartfelt, and emotionally satisfying. There were plenty of moments that made me smile, along with others that tugged at my heart.
Although I have never personally experienced domestic violence, I encounter it often in my line of work, and someone close to me has also lived through it. Because of that, this story resonated deeply. It delivers a powerful, empowering message that I truly believe someone out there needs to hear. It serves as a reminder that strength can be found even after unimaginable hardship.
This book beautifully captures growth, resilience, fear, healing, and love, weaving them together into a story that feels both emotional and inspiring.
I’m incredibly grateful I had the opportunity to read this as an ARC, and I’ll definitely be purchasing a physical copy to proudly add to my trophy shelf.
:::
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.
Adam and Jennifer’s story is a tale told many times… Childhood friends, unrequited love, unrealised love, and a smidge of mutual pining… He comes to town while making a decision about his career, and reconnects with his childhood friend, and realises that he wants more…. This is complicated by the fact that she’s a little annoyed that he ghosted her, and she has an ex who is conveniently deaf to the word no, and has no idea what the law is (or boundaries). This has some heavy triggers… DV, manipulation, corruption, coercion, public violence, so take care if these are an issue for you.
I did feel that Jennifer and Adam reconnected a little too easily. There wasn’t really anything before that giving any indication of a confrontation or anything. I mean, ghosting your BFF is pretty major…
Overall though, it was a sweet(ish) story, packed full of drama and small town charm. I enjoyed it.
Hearts on the Line was such a heartfelt and charming read. From the very beginning, I found myself completely invested in the characters and their journey. R. Katz does a wonderful job of creating relationships that feel genuine, allowing every emotional moment to land with real impact.
One of my favorite aspects of this book was the balance between humor and vulnerability. It had plenty of lighthearted moments that made me smile, but it also explored themes of love, healing, and finding where you truly belong with so much heart. The character development was beautifully done, making it impossible not to root for them every step of the way.
This is the kind of story that reminds you why character-driven romances are so special. If you’re looking for a book with emotional depth, memorable characters, and a romance that leaves you feeling warm long after you’ve finished, I would absolutely recommend Hearts on the Line.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book before release!! This book was everything I needed!!
Jen (FMC) is just a girl who is trying to hide from the worst ex a girl could ask for. But is also trying to show that he isn't going to stop her from being... well... a normal human being. Adam (MMC) is a pro-football star who is coming back home for a few weeks to decide what he wants to do next season. These two were besties (who may or may not have fallen for each other in high school, but never said anything) and sadly lost connection after high school. Well he's back in town and just so happens to run into her!
The rekindling of these two was amazing. The way he ends up sticking up for her due to her obnoxious ex and his family. They were meant to be. I love a good found family romance and this is the one!! With some yummy friends to lovers, fake dating troupes in here too.
Don't worry, it does get spicy at the end when they FINALLY admit their feelings!!

Hearts on the Line by R Katze is an emotional, heartwarming romance that skillfully blended the beloved friends-to-lovers and fake-dating tropes into a compelling story of healing, trust, and second chances. Set in the backdrop of a small town, we get to follow the story of the FMC Jennifer Blakely, a teacher trying to rebuild her life and the MMC Adam Thompson, an NFL player and her childhood best friend. One of the things that stood out to me about this novel was the relationship between Jennifer and Adam. Their shared history gave their romance an authenticity that made every interaction meaningful. Overall, Hearts on the Line was a touching contemporary romance that delivered lovable characters, heartfelt emotion, genuine chemistry, and a satisfying happily-ever-after.
I received an ARC copy from NetGalley. Thank you so much for giving me a chance to read and voluntarily review this novel!
Jen and Adam have been best friends since they were 5 years old, but when Adam goes off to college and starts playing pro football, they fell out of touch. Adam is back and their chemistry and affection picks right back up where they left all those years ago. Jen has had a traumatic year trying to heal from the trauma her ex, the mayor's son inflicted on her. Adam is a protector and will do anything to keep Jen safe. As they begin a fake dating scheme to deflect Jen's ex, feelings some into play and the people of their small town are all too happy to win their bets about Adam and Jen finally getting together.
In this small town the mayor pulls all the strings, and Jen has to fight for her rights and safety from her ex. This story is about perseverance, healing, and finding support in the right people. I loved the found family, mental, emotional, and physical health representation, and truth of going after what is right.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for a read of Hearts on the Line. I enjoyed this story and the how well sensitive topics were handled with such care. It had humor, spice, a protective and cinnamon roll of a man down bad for his girl, and a strong FMC. Definitely worth the read!
Jennifer Blakely want for ex to finally let her go and stop stalking her. When her best friend Adam comes back to town he propose to fake dating just so she can be safe.Jen is not sure if fake dating is fake,as she always liked Adam more then friends.
Will those two admit they want something real?
A enjoyable best friends fake dating romance.I get why they didn't wanted to risk their friendship while in high school, and I like how it all work out. Both lived a different life, and now they know what they want. The spice, the chemistry and Adam protectiveness was great, the sweet moments and support Jen finally got a perfect moment, and I liked how author wrap it up.My first book by this author and hope to read more.
For fans of fake dating best friends romance.
Please read warning first.
Thank you author for arc,my review is honest and my own.
Hearts on the Line by R. Katze was an emotional and heartwarming story that beautifully balanced heavier themes with romance and comfort.
The fake dating and friends-to-lovers tropes were done really well. Watching Jennifer and Adam slowly find their way back to each other was one of my favourite parts of the story. Their history together made their bond feel natural, and their chemistry made it easy to root for them from the beginning.
The story also handles Jennifer's struggles and healing journey with care, while Adam's protective nature adds an extra layer to their relationship without diminishing Jennifer's strength as a character.
Overall, this is a great pick for readers who enjoy fake dating, friends-to-lovers, small-town romance, and protective heroes.
“Fake dating the man I’ve loved since I was sixteen to escape my stalker ex? Sounds exactly like something that would happen to me.”
If you’re looking for a quick read that is fun with slight suspense, you should check out Hearts On the Line. It’s a small town, fake dating to escape a stalker ex romance, where the MMC happens to be her childhood best friend and now a pro football player.
There are a lot of sweet and tender moments, as well has spice. The dynamic of the main characters is one of the better representations of childhood friends to lovers I’ve seen in a long time.
Thank you to R. Katze and Twisted Chaos PR for letting me read an arc of Hearts On the Line. All thoughts are my own.
Let me start by saying I did enjoy this book a lot! Jen and Adam are such a cute couple and their relationship is the dream. The way he cares for her and helps her through all that happens and her trust in him are amazing. What kind of threw me off at times were the mistakes. Like words thrown in that didn’t make sense in the sentence or wrong endings. The story and the way it portrays domestic violence are great, it really highlighted how hard it is for victims and that it’s fine to not have the courage to speak up. All in one, I rate it a 3.5/5, the romance and yearning were wonderful! Looking forward to seeing it published

***This book deals with domestic violence, please check your triggers. Jen and Adam have been friends since childhood but drifted apart in college. When Adam comes back to town, they rekindle their friendship and start to fake date to protect Jen from her abusive ex.
This was a solid romance novel. Loved Jen and Adam and their friendship. Loved the town and the side characters. The domestic violence aspect of the book was treated with care and respect, and it was described enough to make you understand what she went through without feeling like you are reading a tabloid.
This was my first book by R. Katze, and I’m looking forward to reading her other books.
🧡 Best Friends To Lovers 🧡 Abusive Ex 🧡 Sports Romance 🧡 Teacher / Athlete 🧡 Second Chance 🧡 Small Town
This was such a heartwarming second chance romance. Jennifer and Adams story is one of survival, growth and a chance to rekindle a friendship and a love that never stopped. A story full of yearning, tension, suspense and a small town full of corruption that keeps you turning the page. I thoroughly enjoyed this read. I really loved the connection between these two main. characters. There was no mistaking the care and love they had for each other. Memories and time passed could never severe their hearts. I would advise to check trigger warnings regarding sensitive topics.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity of this ARC. This book was a chance at romance for two characters that loved each other as teenagers secretly and when reunited they’re finally given an opportunity to voice their feelings and how they adapted to each other as they’ve grown.
First of all I loved how the author again deals with serious themes but in such a way you are emotionally involved in the outcome. Adam has such huge protector vibes and doesn’t hesitate to step in and protect Jen. Jen had not only had to overcome huge traumas but find her way through the darkness and fight corruption of a small town. The romance development was quick developing but no less enjoyable, there was the building tension throughout and the closeness in the characters was giving the Cody family vibes. Adam was a peak MMC who know his career needed a change and jumps at the opportunity to change it for the better.
Great read with a fast romance and tension filled plot
This book was such a good read! It was a short but wholesome story about Jen meeting with her childhood best friend and navigating her feelings for him while also trying to heal from her past relationship. It felt relieving to see a somewhat accurate description of the affect domestic violence has on the survivor, and I loved getting to see Jen finally getting the support from the town that she should have gotten in the beginning. The ending was also satisfying, and I really enjoyed getting to read Adam and Jen's journey!!
I love good long lost friends turned to lovers read, and this is exactly that. Adam and Jenn were best friends forever, until they lost contact after college. They reunited and that friendship was exactly where they left off, except they both wanted more. Since Jenn was being harassed by an ex, Adam stepped in to help her feel safe again, this is where the relationship turned to more. Absolutely loved these two, and this read. Jenn is definitely alot stronger than she gives herself credit for. The abuse she endured and not taken seriously was terrible for anyone to go thru.
NetGalley ARC Review 2.5⭐️ Fake dating, friends to lovers, and sports romance are all usually some of my favorite tropes; however, this one didn’t meet expectations for me. I’m not a fan of third person writing style which I think is why it took more time to get into this story. I enjoyed Jen and Adam’s relationship/banter but, I feel some parts of the story were a little rushed. I wanted to play more into the fake dating but for me it felt like a real relationship the entire time. I was glad there was no third act breakup and was satisfied with the conclusion.
'Her ex is watching. And he is running out of patience. The danger is real. So are the feelings. And they are running out of reasons to keep saying it's all pretend.'
The characters were very appealing and complex and complicated and absolutely perfect together. Plot was intriguing and intense and well paced. World building was excellent and solidly drawn. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend.
