2.5* It was enjoyable but it did drag in places, and the ‘danger’ was over way too fast.
I did enjoy reading this but I found it a bit hard going at times. Haley is 18 but she’s written about as though she’s much younger. She felt like a little girl at times and I found it really hard to get into because of that. Has she never had a boyfriend? She’s described as being stunningly beautiful yet she’s never had a boyfriend? It just seemed weird. She had no experience with a man’s body at all and was almost terrified at times of Philip’s body. Her family treat her like a child as well. Philip is so insecure that it’s annoying. He’s constantly thinking he’s not good enough for her, as she’s a star student and wants to be a lawyer. I really would have liked to have read about them when they first start dating. The book starts when they’ve already been dating for a while. Yet Philip has never passionately kissed Haley. 🙄
Haley met Philip when she was 17, so her date made them always have chaperones till she was 18. Haley is a bit timid to be honest. I understood Beth as she had gone through something traumatic as a child, but Haley hasn’t. When Haley first starts receiving letters she’s really overwhelmed and doesn’t tell anyone about them. As the team starts investigating and Haley is in a safe house being guarded by THREE security operatives, it felt a bit over the top. I know stalkers can be dangerous. Philip and Haley finally have s*x and to honest the sex scenes are so weird and stilted that I didn’t enjoy them.
I was super excited, but this fell kiiiiind of flat. Loved seeing well loved characters come and go, and I did love the Phillip and Hayley interaction, but there was a lot of repetitive narratives. We got to learn twice in less than two chapters where Layla and Ian get their money and how ostentatious their parent’s house is.
Mack calling Phillip “son” squicked me out considering all the age dynamics going on, and I really didn’t like the attempt to inject the phonetics of a Caribbean accent for Mateo. If we’re told he has an accent and what it is, we do not need italics to emphasize it. It skated really close to offensive caricature.
Otherwise, I’m happy Phillip and Hayley got their book - especially since long time fans remember when he showed up cocky and got out in his place. I’m excited for the next Shane and Beth.
I've absolutely loved this series since the first book, and each story just keeps getting better and better! I was thrilled to see that these two finally got their own story, as I've been waiting for it for a while. (Thank you Mack for the long delay!! Lol!) Of course none of the characters in the McIntyre Security clan can begin a relationship without there being any kind of drama or threat, which unfortunately caught these two off guard. It was a fantastic story with the expected drama, humor, suspense, as well as the happy-for-now ending. However, I believe that this won't be the last we see of this lovely couple, which I'm certainly looking forward to. I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.
I liked this one, but not quite as much as some of the other McIntyre Security books.
The slow burn and bodyguard setup were enjoyable, and I still liked the characters and the protective romance dynamic. April Wilson does a good job with that safe, dependable hero feeling, and I always like the world of this series.
That said, this one didn’t hit me emotionally as hard as the others. I was interested and I wanted to keep reading, but I wasn’t quite as pulled in or as attached as I’ve been with some of the other couples.
Still a good read, just not my favorite of the series.
I loved the book. I’ve been waiting for the story of Haley & Philip. April Wilson didn’t disappoint. The story line was great, not what I expected. I finished it within 24 hours. Now I’m looking forward to Rage, with Shane & Beth. My only question is Lia & Jonah, are they ever going to have children. I know she said no, but she could change her mine. Think about it. Also, another story for each family should be considered. Great Work.
Haley now 18, and Philip have started dating with Mac’s blessing. When Haley moves in a college dorm she finds herself with a stalker, why her? She’s never done anything wrong to anyone! Philip is now not only her boyfriend but her protector. Just when you think you know the stalker there’s a curveball.
The friendship between Haley, Jasmine & Layla it’s just precious.
Highly recommend and can’t wait for Rage, Shane & Beth’s next book.
Any books written by this Author is well worth a sleepless night. That's what happens to me every time I find another story is ready to read by April. Her McIntyre series is so good and filled with action from the beginning so when a new story comes out you know you have another great read! Hurry April and give us another one I know I'll love to read as well! Good thing I have you on my notifications as I watch my calendar for it!
Been looking forward to this book and it did not disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed this story getting to see how much Haley has grown up and Philip so patient. I loved the friendship Haley has with Jasmine, Layla and Erin and its fantastic to catch up with them. Highly recommend this story!
I've waited so long for Haley and Philip's love story! And it was so worth the wait! I love how April Wilson makes me feel like I'm transported to the actual scenes in a book. The characters always come to life on the pages! We're going to need a follow-up book to find out about Haley and Philip's happily ever after.
Another cracker of a book from April. All the elements you want and expect from her, and this story rattles along at excellent pace. Lots of intrigue and twists and turns and an abundance of sensitivity as the heroine, Haley Donovan is barely 18 and moving from to home to college and Into womanhood. Loved it
This book was a great addition to the series. I enjoyed Hailey, and Philip as a couple. I'm glad we had the appearance of many of the other characters. I loved their love story
I loved this book. I did guess the stalker but I did love it. I can’t wait to see what else is in Haley’s future. Hopefully one day, working with her mom.
