What if déjà vu was the world giving you another chance?

Miasma is a character-driven fantasy adventure that follows Piper, a young woman forced into hiding after her mother is executed for using forbidden spirit magic. Years later, Piper lives under an assumed identity, keeping her own dangerous abilities concealed—until her partner, Celene, an exiled princess of the fallen kingdom of Stromst, is called back home.

As tyranny tightens its grip on Stromst, the two are drawn into a desperate mission alongside a reluctant ally, Alex. What begins as a rescue quickly unravels into something far more dangerous, exposing a regime built on the exploitation of spirit users and a royal family fractured by power.

When their first attempt ends in tragedy, Piper is given an impossible second chance—returned to the beginning with no clear memory, but a growing sense that something is deeply wrong. As events begin to shift, Piper must navigate fear, loss, and the limits of her own power to change a fate that refuses to stay buried.

Blending political intrigue, romance, and a layered magic system, Miasma explores sacrifice, identity, and the cost of rewriting destiny.

Fast-paced, heartfelt, and filled with adventure, Miasma is a gripping young adult fantasy about courage, loyalty, and love that refuses to fade.

Awesome debut novel!

A genuinely enjoyable read with a really unique premise centred around the idea that déjà vu gives you a second chance, made it feel intriguing from the start.

I especially loved Alex’s character growth throughout the story, and found myself craving even more of Celene and Piper’s lore because it felt like there were so many layers still waiting to be uncovered (I can only imagine Celene’s family trauma 👀).

Also… totally clocked that one character (iykyk) was acting suss, so the payoff for that reveal was absolutely *chef’s kiss*

This is a cute yet epic sapphic fantasy with a touch of romance and plenty of emotion. The story is well written, thoughtfully crafted, and filled with engaging characters and meaningful moments.

The world-building is especially well done, creating a setting that feels immersive without becoming overwhelming. The fantasy elements blend seamlessly with the emotional journey, making the story both exciting and heartfelt.

Overall, this was a very fun read that balanced adventure, romance, and emotion beautifully. I'd happily recommend it to anyone looking for a sapphic YA fantasy with a lot of heart.

A decently enjoyable fast paced story. The language is straightforward and the reading easy. Can be finished in a day especially on a quiet free day.

A tale about the magic of the spirit, the gift of the goddess and how the lives of these magic users revolve around the cycles of reincarnation. Though it's not so much as rebirth but more of a reset, a second or multiple chance at learning from the error of one's way and rectifying it in the following life. I think that's more like time travel no?

So there's Piper and Celene on the run from an oppressive king who kills all magic users that defy him so that no one can challenge his power.

Then there's Alex, a wandering stray, who somehow ends up in the lives and plans of Celene and Piper. He either unwillingly or merrily (depends on the version) follows the pair as they try to save a friend from the evil king.

I enjoyed the whole story but sometimes parts of the story don't really make sense but I think it's easily rectifiable with a little imagination yes?

It is after all fast paced and probably will be a standalone but I'm not opposed to a book 2 if it ever happens. This is after all the author's debut novel. A decently commendable effort overall.

I received a complimentary copy from Booksirens for evaluation purposes.

An interesting read that gives second chances to try again. The first time Piper got a second chance was early in life after a traumatic life event. Later in life she learns more about second chances that are given by the goddess when she goes on an adventure to rescue a friend with Alex and Celene. The story really picks up in the last half and draws you into the conclusion. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Highly recommend this read!

I loved the world that was created here, and the story/characters that we followed. The magic elements felt more personal/grounded, I appreciate that it wasn't just a power fantasy.

I liked Piper and Celene from the start but wow I loved seeing Alex's growth as a person throughout the adventure.

I hope to see more stories from this world, there are some locations I would love to know more about.

A thrilling adventure for YA readers

Miasma is about three people struggling to rise above their painful histories. It has a fun system of magic, good banter, a core romance, and a fight against bigotry and greed. All the things I want in a YA fantasy!
