Rate this book
Ana, the Angel of Thieves and Heir of the Underworld, has spent thirteen years trying to outrun fate. But when a routine theft goes horribly wrong, she is discovered by a face from her childhood, and hurled back onto the very path she fought so hard to escape. Forced to confront the life she has denied herself, Ana must decide who to trust and which chains will ultimately bind her.

When an enigmatic stranger arrives seeking access to the extensive library at the Shadow Keep, Cowen Thorygal, a warrior and sworn protector of the kingdom, knows something is very wrong. The winds of fate are shifting, and when disaster strikes and dangerous secrets finally come to light, the life Cowen knows is thrown into treasonous chaos.

In this debut novel by Rachel E. Walters, the first book in the Beautiful Ashes series, secrets will unfold and the lines between friend and foe will blur. Magic is awakening and a dangerous threat grows more powerful from within.

The first lines of war are too often drawn in blood.

This book is full of brilliant world-building with addictive side characters that really pull you in.

Even more than that, the fierce main female character is a total banger! Loooooove her.

Need the next book!!!

"If a book is well written, I always find it too short." Jane Austin.

I was lucky enough to be the editor of the book. I found myself reading it, instead of editing it!
The quote is how I felt when reading "A Prophecy of Ash." I didn't want it to end. It’s a perfect read for anyone who loves fantasy, a bit of romance and loads of adventure. Can't wait for the next book in the series.

A Prophecy of Ash has me captivated! 🤩💙

Wow, this story has me captivated! 💙🔥

I truly don’t know how Rachel E Walters managed to pack so much in this one book without overwhelming me but she did it! I laughed, cringed, cried, and almost threw it in frustration! I love her descriptions and way of presenting information. She gave us so much but not enough at the same time! I see those Easter eggs and I can’t wait for answers!!
I really enjoyed following Ana and Cowen as they’re faced with a fate they can’t outrun or ignore. Ana aka Angel of Thieves, our FMC, is a strong-willed, cunning thief who is trying outrun her fate, but alas it is catching up. We find her dwelling in the clutches of the Underworld of thieves and assassins, until a game of thievery goes wrong and she is betrayed. Cowen, our other POV, is a Shadow walker who is bonded to a wolf aka Shadow. We find him in the Shadow Keep with other Walkers and Shadows, in particular with his ragtag group of friends and found family. But his seemingly, easygoing way of life has been rattled with the arrival of a mysterious man and Shadow.

💙Favorite Chapter: 26 💙

My most prominent thoughts at the end:
1. Ana, Ana, Ana! *sigh* I just want to reach in and shake you, girl! I can’t wait to see her growth!
2. 😍HAWK😍
3. The puppies…
4. Cowen.. who really are you? 🤨
5. Hale, my hot and cold, tortured boy. I hope you’re free someday.
6. I HATE THE VIPRESSA!😡

Favorite quotes:

“But it is equally valid that all inevitably yield to Fate’s unwelcome intrusions. It is only a matter of time.”

“Magic is the seemingly impossible made possible. The things we see which cannot be explained.”

“Instead of waiting for fate to throw your world into chaos, take the bitch for a turn and make your own way.”

“I do not care who or what you choose to be, Ana,” he whispered, striding forward and claiming both of her hands. “I will follow you to the damned bloody gates themselves if you so choose.”

I absolutely loved this book! From the very first chapters, I was completely drawn into the world and couldn’t stop turning the pages. The world-building was rich without feeling confusing, and every new reveal made me even more curious about what would happen next.

The characters were the highlight for me. Ana is such a strong and determined heroine, and I really enjoyed following her journey. Cowen quickly became one of my favorites, and I loved watching the story unfold through both of their perspectives. The side characters were just as memorable and made the world feel alive.

The ending left me with so many questions in the best way possible, and now I’m counting down the days until the next book. If you enjoy fantasy with great characters, emotional moments, mystery, and incredible world-building, I definitely recommend giving this one a try!
