For such a brilliant manga to come to an end so early is definitely sad, but this is a fantastic ending that wraps things up beautifully.

November 11, 2025It's over :') I will forever be a sucker for found family. I loved that the battle was won by everyone fighting together. I was so proud of Kikoru and Ichikawa especially, they grew into such wonderful people and fighters. Also that panel with Ichikawa freezing the monster and calling Kafka partner and Kafka returning to the third division and Ichikawa welcoming him back, I got so emotional in both of them.
Kikoru using no1's weapon was insane and the fact that she could use weapons from four different kaijus'? She is so powerful and insane, love her.
Anyways I loved the ending, I'm going to rewatch the anime now

Te amo Kaiju 8, sos de los pocos mangas que no decepcionaron con su final. Una vez más destaco lo MARAVILLOSO que es su arte, y Hoshina aka el mejor personaje de toda la serie. Uno de los pocos casos donde puedo afirmar que el manga es infinidad de veces mejor que el anime. La animación del anime no le hace justicia al pedazo de arte que tiene esta historia.
Gracias por este viaje, Kaiju 8. Fuiste lindo mientras duraste.

I really liked the final battle and I do like that every major character does get a role to play in dealing with the threat. From Shinomiya making the opening and Mina stopping the final attack my only real complaint is that I wished that Reno got a bigger role since after he got his new weapon he really did not participate much in the final fight. It would have been amazing to see Kafka, Shinomiya, and Reno all having equal roles in the final fight against Kaiju No 9. I do wish there was more cost to Kafka becoming a real kaiju in the final fight as it feels they were building up to a tragic ending but it gets dropped really fast. I would have preferred at least to have Kafka be in a permeant kaiju state or at least the opposite of his usual state where it takes effort to stay in a human form and his Kaiju form is his default setting. But still the final volume was great and I like they kind of give Kafka a role that better fit his skills at the beginning of the story where he supports others by using his extensive Kaiju knowledge.
The series overall was great and I like all of the characters, I do wish we learned more about the origins of the Kaijus as it felt at times like that was being built up as a major mystery but they never really focused on it. Still a great series.

it was a good ending, but for someone who binge read the whole series and the ending was half recap, it was disappointing. also, i thought the kaiju would have disappeared after that last boss, but nope, they just keep popping up like nothing changed, i guess 🤷♀️

Absolutely one of my all time favorite series.
I can understand why people were a little mixed on the ending - just like with MHA - but I really liked the ending. .

Kickass fight scenes and a great ending.
The story doesn't try to overstay its welcome, mysteries and charcater arcs concluded while still leaving some of what they'll do/ become I'm the future up to out imaginations.
I enjoyed all the characters, esp. kikorou's development, I was annoyed by her in her very first intro at the parking lot, but she really did grow on me immensely. Also Reno's and iharu's arcs as a duo were great but I also felt they each got their own development Independently as well
Kafka obviously such a lovable goofy himbo lmao, I'm actually proud of myself for clocking why he was called kafka instantly, finally achieved one brain cell up here lol.
We're not gonna mention how Aoi and haruichi were Lowkey forgotten and then remember suddenly I'm the final arc lol. I actually do wish we got more out of them, esp. more on haruichi's relationship with his dad.
But there were two main reasons why I gave this 3 star instead of a 4. They're mainly v. Personal to me and not necessarily an indication that series itself is mid.
1. Lack of a kaiju early warning system
It really bothered me that the only way they had to detect a kaiju is that once it appears people call it in and then the deforce force starts to move, in the show it took them in one episode around 15 mins to actually start attacking a kaiju.
Like wtf? What a waste time? Similar to earthquake early warning systems and missile detectors and radars, they couldn't come up with underground and underwater radars to detect kaiju? So the moment one pings a radar the team is already on site and people have already been evacuated by the time the kaiju actually appears.
I was so shocked when the flying kaiju attacked the base and no one was ready. This is your military base and you don't have *any* kind of sensors to detect anamolies in the vicinity?????
This honestly really took me out of the story everysingle time, and it's never addressed in the show at all. It was genuinely sooo frustrating.
2. No stakes in the fight scenes
Not sure if this is an issue with the genre, or the writing, or if it's just that watching AOT recently for the first time mentally broke me but I expected more main cast deaths😭😭😭
Knowing that everyone's gonna survive anyways made every fight not that intense for me. Sure they were cool and I was hyped the whole time, but there was no worry, the worst that would happen is that they would have to go to the hospital in the end.
At least they should've lost a limb or a sense 😭😭 hoshino's arm loss fake out pissed me off, like you couldn't even commit to it ugh. Gen should've lost his eyesight in the final fight due to how much he overused the power. There should've been some kind of physical consequence for how far they pushed themselves in that final battle, but everyone came out of it literally unscathed. Sure it called of a bunch of NPCs and...? At least kill of NPCs that were introduced earlier so we can actually feel the loss, but killing of nameless faceless NPCs just doesn't have that much impact overall.
Although I love hibino, I was frustrated that in the end the choice he made to sacrifice his heart so he can defeat the final boss was made null by isao giving him his heart.
Again, I don't think it was contrived or poor writing, but it just rubbed me the wrong way, I think I like tragedy too much. I would've loved seeing everyone greivinh for hibino as he vanishes with the rest of the souls, or hibino trying to navigate the world as a full on kaiju.
I still like the ending, I think the miser in me wanted more deaths. I.e. I reallyyyy wanted Reno to die in that first episode, like I think that would've raised the stakes soooo much, really showed us how in this world anyone can die at any moment.

Naoya Matsumoto ha preso i cliché del genere e ci ha infilato dentro Kafka Hibino, un protagonista che non è il classico ragazzino prescelto, ma un trentenne che pulisce budella di kaiju e sogna ancora di stare in prima linea. È questo che lo rende un personaggio indimenticabile: è uno di noi che non ha mai smesso di crederci.
Arrivati alla fine di questa corsa pazzesca con il numero 16, il giudizio non può che essere strepitoso.
È un manga che sa cosa vuole raccontare e, soprattutto, sa quando è il momento di finire.
In un mercato pieno di storie che si trascinano per decenni come cadaveri eccellenti, avere un’opera che inizia, spacca tutto e si conclude in sedici volumi è una benedizione assoluta.
Il finale è perfetto: volutamente aperto, ma capace di chiudere un ciclo narrativo in modo netto e onesto. Ti lascia quel brivido lungo la schiena, quella sensazione che il mondo continui a girare anche dopo l'ultima pagina, senza il bisogno di spiegarti ogni singolo atomo.
È una storia asciutta, densa, che non ti fa perdere tempo in filler inutili.
Tutto il percorso è un gioiello di dinamismo puro, con combattimenti che bucano letteralmente la pagina.
Senti la pressione del vapore che esce dalle tute potenziate e l'impatto di ogni colpo contro creature dal design pazzesco. Matsumoto mastica la cultura dei film di mostri classici e la sputa fuori con un amore immenso, infarcendo tutto di citazioni stupende e coreografie da urlo.
Ma oltre all'azione c'è il cuore: Kafka, Kikoru, Hoshina e Ashiro non sono macchiette, ma compagni d'armi con un'anima vera, personaggi che impari a rispettare e che non dimenticherai facilmente.
È un manga che ti prende per la gola dal primo capitolo e ti molla col sedicesimo lasciandoti con un sorriso ebete e la voglia di ricominciarlo da capo.

So it turns out all this time No. 9 has always been there, but as the Meireki Kaiju from over 400 years ago. Kafka's new skills from his awakening send No. 9 flying. All the dead Kaiju from the beginning of the end have risen once more, but the Defence Force won't let their efforts go to waste. Hoshina clears the path whilst Mina gets ready to shoot, meanwhile Narumi and Kikoru pull out their own shared trump card to help Kafka reach No. 9's core, and Reno turns up to boost Kafka's final blow. Finally, at last, No. 9 is taken out. Near the end scared me, I was so worried about Kafka and hoped it wasn't a sacrificial thing. Thankfully, all ended well. He's still part of the Third, just acting as field analysis support (amd fighter on occasion...). I'm so glad Kikoru avenged her parents, setting their memories to peace at last, and she's going to be Vice Captain of the First! Everyone has grown so much and are reaping the rewards of their strength. Mina and Hoshina are busier than ever with office work and new recruits. Kafka finally achieved his dream of being able to report a Kaiju and save lives immediately after, it was quite emotional reading it. I absolutely loved the awesome twist about whether or not he's still got his Kaiju powers.
Overall, I absolutely loved this manga, and I'm so glad the anime is mostly doing it justice! It did have a few dips, but mostly was really cool and somewhat heartwarming at times.

Rating: 5 stars - I loved it!
The final volume of Kaiju No. 8 is here and it has an action packed ending! The previous volume ends with Kafka taking a really damaging hit and had to accept the kaiju inside him completely to survive. Now we see the new version of Kaiju No. 8 and the final battle against Kaiju No. 9.
This was an action packed and a bit emotional ending. It was high stakes and there was close calls for some characters and if they were actually going to be able to defeat No. 9. But by working together we see Kafka, Mina, Kikoru, and Ichikawa all use their individual strengths to finally take down No. 9. It was so good and I really enjoyed the high stakes but supportive atmosphere this battle had.
I am honestly really happy with how this series played out and how it ended. It was everything I was expecting. I have loved this series since the first book so it’s always great when it ends in a satisfying way. Also I love that we finally get to see Kafka achieve his dream of being a part of the defense force and working beside Mina.
Overall, this has been a fantastic series and while I am sad its ending, I am happy that it ended well and on the authors terms. I look forward to reading whatever Naoya Matsumoto writes next.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - absolutely solid ending.

This series has absolutely surpassed my expectations.
I feel like the issue in Shounen is that everyone is trying to make the next Naruto, and what I like about this series is that it stayed away from that. The concept is basic, and the story isn't trying to reinvent the wheel. And it works! It provides a story that is just a solid time. The action is fun, and the friendships are just enough to keep you interested. The series is just so consistent!
I will also note I was surprised by the direction of Kafka and Mina's relationship. I had initially thought that it would play a much more central role and that it would turn into something romantic. I was pleasantly surprised that it stayed platonic. I also loved how the author depicted Kafka's fulfilled promise to Mina -- absolutely precious.
My controversial take is that I also loved how Kafka has developed far more meaningful friendships with some of the other folks. I like how he has essentially grown beyond his initial reason to be in the Defense Force (his promise with Mina); what a fulfilling end to his character arc.

Sin embargo, la historia no terminó de ser su punto fuerte. Tiene buenas ideas, pero en varios momentos no alcanza la misma intensidad que sus batallas y personajes.
Suma un poco que pude leerlo completo en Manga Plus, lo que fue una grata sorpresa y le da mas valor a la experiencia. En conjunto, lo considero un buen manga para adolescentes, entretenido y con méritos propios, aunque no es memorable.

I remember reading this from the beginning of its serialization and liking the simplistic art style, it never really stood out to me as anything more than an average “underdog trying to meet their admired friend at their level” type story
(At least in the first half) there’s more comedy than action, and side characters much more compelling than the mc (hoshina, Narumi, shinomiya, Mina)
the world building is pretty limited, but at 129 chapters of what seems like an (fizzled out) intentional end, what else could you really ask for
Overall it’s fine, doesnt flip any scripts or ruffle feathers it’s just fun monster fights

I remember reading this from the beginning of its serialization and liking the simplistic art style, it never really stood out to me as anything more than an average “underdog trying to meet their admired friend at their level” type story
(At least in the first half) there’s more comedy than action, and side characters much more compelling than the mc (hoshina, Narumi, shinomiya, Mina)
the world building is pretty limited, but at 129 chapters of what seems like an (fizzled out) intentional end, what else could you really ask for
Overall it’s fine, doesnt flip any scripts or ruffle feathers it’s just fun monster fights

la batalla final fue genial, una mezcla de esfuerzos y sacrificios retratados brutalmente con el dibujo de Matsumoto, pero el epílogo estuvo muy flojo y apurado. lamentablemente eso me bajó bastante el entusiasmo que traía, porque realmente me pareció muy buena la pelea. es cierto que todo lo del Kaiju antiguo y el rencor de quienes lo combatían se sintió un poco apresurado, onda lo mencionaron antes pero no le dieron el desarrollo ideal, considerando que es la clave del final.

This is one of those stories that I was apprehensive to start but once I did I loved it! Started with the anime then immediately switched over to the manga. The story was great with strong characters (main and supporting). I really loved them all, especially the bad guy being intelligent and consistently learning from humanity. As far as endings go, I loved the way the author wrapped this up. Nothing felt forced. Everything came together nicely and made you feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside. Absolutely loved it! I’ll probably be reading this again until it’s all animated, then just watch on repeat!

I loved the Kaiju 8 so muchhh!! This one of my favourite shounen genre and i can accept. I don’t know why, every time i read the recap story I will cry so much. And the ending very satisfying. BUT! I need more journey about Kafka and I want to know more about other Defence Force. There are a lot character so I believe author can make more about their side story.
Now the Kaiju 8 already adapted to anime, I really happy and the art anime so good. Cannot wait to see next season of Kaiju. Really dispointed when the season 2 ended veryy cliffhanger. That the beset part laaaa.

Fantastic ending.
Overall, it was a short series (just 16 vols) but the story is more about vs a couple particular Kaiju, not about getting rid of all the Kaiju, which by the end was a surprise. But I don’t hate it. I rather the author finish the story here instead of dragging it out trying to do something more.
I guess Kaiju are just the norm in this world.
Solid series. Ended far better than it begun.
I give the whole series 4 stars.
Can’t wait for the final anime film that will show this final fight.

Un dernier tome bien épais comme j'aime et qui annonçait du contenu. Et c'est bien le cas! J'ai adoré ce tome et le dénouement de tout ça. Kaiju n°8 est vraiment un manga que j'adore et ça me fait quand même un peu bizarre que ce soit terminé. Moi qui attendait chaque tome avec impatience.
Pour profiter un maximum de ce tome, je suis repassée par la case relecture. Et j'ai bien fait. Ça m'a permis de tout ravoir en tête. Mais surtout de voir que certains détails ont de l'importance. Et d'en comprendre le sens.
