(SHORT STORY, part of Grains of Sand ) What time period were you intending to portray? Answer that for yourself. Look closer. It might as well be today, though most readers guess sometime in the early twentieth century. Most of my work is intentionally not time-specific. This is also one of the few that deals explicitly with religion. It is a commentary on guilt and innocence. I don't take a side and present an argument. All I do is bring deep-seated questions to the surface. It's up to the reader to draw their own conclusions.
