Decisive Action:

Having completed his training to become an Adept-Lieutenant, Desmond is now ready to return to active service. Graduating top of his class and setting a base record for his scores, Desmond managed to achieve a lot, and so did his girls.

Not a single member of Arsenal wasted their time at the Valruk-Obadai Academy, and each sought additional training and certification. Even the sevrax worked hard to grow up strong and learn how best to protect their family.

This far from home, separated by light-years of distance and actual years of time, Desmond didn’t expect to see any familiar faces at graduation. Yet true to form, Maya Throneblood found a way to surprise him. But what she did at the graduation dinner surprised him more.

At Maya’s urging, Desmond stepped away from the dinner celebrating the graduates of that cycle, only to be intercepted by the local Baroness with a request for assistance. What could she possibly want from Desmond, and is it a request meant for Adept McLaughlin? Or Clan Sire McLaughlin?

Things had been going so well that all Desmond knows is that this will be trouble.

*** Monster Girls In Space is a Sci-Fi, fantasy, semi-military, men’s romance, progression fantasy about a man becoming a space-wizard amongst a universe full of monster girls (it’s in the title, you should have expected that part). Expect adventure, mischief, magic, fighting, and romance in a galaxy that is curious what sort of mischief Humanity will get up to.

Another excellent book in the series

Sometimes by this late in the series, the story will lose cohesion or its spark. Not in this case, book 8 is still just as strong as the others. Well edited, good pacing and the characters are still growing and becoming more distinct and deep. The world building also continues to grow in a way that keeps pace with the overall storyline and character development. In some series the world building gets bigger faster than the character so you lose the focus but not here. I also appreciated the clever way the author brought in news from ‘home’ for the reader without having to reveal it to the characters and spend extra time on their reactions until the story called for it. Excellent writing. I usually read on KU for authors I like and then also buy the book to try and give them as much credit as possible. This one goes on my To Buy list for sure.

A nice slow burn into an explosive conclusion

He behaved, he recovered, he grew stronger and now he is being put in charge of the equivalent of jedi spec ops teams with a captain who is also into fafo? The next book cannot come soon enough. I am glad with how this one begins simple and easy making the reader think it is just filler but nope it loops in the overarching plot easily enough and pushes it towards a hopeful conclusion. Here's hoping the next story has the Money Snake put her ghosts to bed.

A great book

I know words mean more when used rite. No think this book is advancing the series in a new and interesting place. I am looking forward to the implied possible plot lines cast by this book. I know this author has a very deverse line of books that require his attention. So I hope the next book in this series will be seen before the end of this year. Thank you for your hard work.

Favorite book in the series so far

This is my favorite book of the series so far. I enjoy seeing all the character growth and development. The action and fight scenes are written very well, they keep me interested and hyped at the same time. I can’t wait for the next book.

Side quest

Alternate universe, hero's journey, interstellar societies, harem adult situations

At the end of book 7, A baroness asked for help. Desmond agreed, and this novel details what happened. Excellent editing. Eager for the next entry. Love the series.

mixed, but it’s a world and a niche I like

Some overly corniness in here that I had trouble ignoring. Being campy is in so I get leaning into it a bit.

Repetitive at times, I feel like I read the main character thinking over the sevrax intellectual state in the same way three times in 10 pages.

I think this book was missing a little complexity in the narrative, the first half of the book is a slog waiting for things to happen and then the payoff is predictable to the formula for the series.

Some of these issues I think are inherent in the design of the story. I think this story should have been half of this book, with a definitive escalation of scale in the second half.

I get that you can’t exactly just throw a jtaari invasion every book, and I won’t try to write the story in a review, but raise the stakes.

My critiques are small enough I'm not docking a star.

The book frequently mentions that every single girl is taller than the protagonist, but for some reason, the mental image didn't always stick. It clicks perfectly with Chloe, Reagan, and Audra, but characters like Bell routinely slipped my mind.

There is a distracting lack of continuity regarding the physical scale of the sevraxes. The narrative frequently shifts their dimensions to suit the immediate needs of a scene: at times, they function as house pets small enough to sit on a lap or tuck beneath a table; later, they are explicitly described as 'pony-sized.'

While I am a big fan of this series, this book just did not do it for me. The first half was a real slog to get through. I had a really hard time caring about the main plotline of the story....it just felt so insignificant compared to the other challenges and antagonists the MC and his harem had to endure already.

Bell officially joined the harem in this one and she really doesn't do anything for me. IMO her character doesn't really add much to the story or to the overall group dynamics other than she fills the 6th guard slot.

Overall, a pretty meh experience. I kept putting the book down to read other books as I found myself getting quite bored with the story and the glacial pacing.

Teased and left lacking

I Love this Author and usually love reading his works, however it felt like he pulled a Dickens and made a filler book.
For as long as a book it is I felt like this had the least character development and storyline push so far.
For 18+

as an adult I like the good sexual thrilling moment, there was like 1 this book. Not saying I want a smut book but if you’re going to have a filler book, make it a smutty filler book. lol, jk .

This all being said I will still be reading this series in the future and would still recommendto others to read M. Tress works as it as a solid read.

I enjoyed this book quite a bit, even though it really traveled away from the space knight aspect and turned into more a detective story.

The final member of the squad finally becomes a clan member, and thus joins the harem. She does absolutely nothing for me, but I just skipped the sex scene and went on with the plot.

The editing on this one was outstanding, and the plot moved along as a fairly decent pace. It had a bit too much Slice of Life elements to it, but otherwise moved steadily forward.

I look forward to book 9.

as usual, what an epic series

I have no words for how much joy this series brings to me as I read through each book. I love the little chapter quotes that showcase what’s happening in the greater galaxy and I wholeheartedly enjoy the tender moments with des and his harem. The action sequences speak for themselves in how they get the adrenaline pumping and hooks the reader in so well that before you know it, it’s been 2 hours since you lifted your eyes from the book. Thanks as usual to the author

Believable

Great series with interesting story line and list of characters. I thoroughly enjoyed the story so far , in fact I went back and read the first 7 books again before tackling book 8.
Very believable, especially how Earth's leaders reacted and buried their heads in the sand and jet everything a secret. I could see that happening if the story were to happen now. Story itself is a lot more believable than some random aliens travelling billions of miles across space to attack Earth for its resources.
Can't wait for the book number 9.

Another awesome entry in this series. I like the delving into Des' new mana capabilities. That plus more secret squirrel stuff were a nice diversion while he waits for his deployment orders. I don't want to get into too much for spoilers, but the story does progress some of the plot threads from earlier in the series.

Back in action

We are back with the crew here after graduating. However before we can leave back for the stars we have a side quest for the baroness of the planet.

A nice adventure here with teases to a greater plot. It was good side quest but I am excited to get back to space. The next one is set up to be exciting.

I have been following Monster Girls In Space, and enjoying it I'm immensely. Tress's writing has deepened as the series progressed, showing increased mastery of plot and characterization. Excellent action sequences, a bit of spice now and then, and characters we can care about. Highly recommend.
