Kareem quickly finds himself in an opulent and shameless world of pleasure and vice, where he becomes a favorite of the women he services. There is no doubt that Kareem is great at what he does, but leading a double life while trying to juggle school, friends and family proves to be easier said than done. Things get more complicated when he slips up and impregnates one of his clients...his best friend's mother. Kareem finds himself caught up in a web of sex, murder, and betrayal in this steamy novel that will leave you wondering; how fine is the line between love and lust?

Book Review: Gigolo by Erick S. Gray

I read Erick S. Gray’s book “Gigolo” and I’ve been trying to figure out how to write my review without letting the kitty out the bag! Erick starts the story with a couple having an intimate afternoon tryst when they are disrupted by the woman’s husband who goes completely insane and winds up killing them both before he kills himself, leaving his young son Kareem parentless! Kareem grew up hearing the stories about his parents and dealing with some of the neighborhood gossip about what his father had done however, he never lacked any love as his grandmother took him in and loved him as her own. Kareem grew up to be a tall handsome young man with a high school GPA of 4.5 in his senior year. With his knowledge, grades and likeable personality, everyone felt that Kareem was destined for college; however, Kareem had other plans in mind. Kareem has been introduced to fast money in one of the oldest trades by one of his grandmother’s friends who basically set the young man up for dalliances with wealthy frustrated older women who were looking to spice up their lives for a fee. Kareem’s grandmother knew nothing about the connection made between her old friend and her grandson and was blind to what was going on because he basically kept his grades up and did what she expected him to do. Kareem is so mesmerized and controlled by sex, until he continues with the activities once the lady who introduced him to the lifestyle goes her separates ways. To Kareem his dalliances were simple business that paid well but the same could not be said about the woman who became addicted to him. Kareem is so controlled by sex until he uses very poor judgment and crosses a line with a childhood friend’s mother. Once that line has been crossed, the dynamics of the circle and the friendships of his sketchy friends have changed. When it seems that he finds true love, he lies and continues to meet his customers because he is addicted to the money and not ready to give it up. Kareem life style eventually catches up to him and causes his life to spiral out of control with the unexpected news he received from two of his customers with circumstances that the life as he knew it would be changed forever. When his grandmother becomes a target as a result of his actions he realizes he must change and come true to those he cares about. He makes good strides but a childhood friend who appeared to be jealous of Kareem’s entire existence from the time they were children commits some acts that will alter Kareem’s life forever.

There were several colorful characters in this novel, some that you will love and others that you will hate. I cannot even go into the character flaws of Fingers, Toy and Mike because I will get mad all over again and some additional paragraphs will be added to this already long review! While I was ecstatic for the endings of some, I was heartbroken and torn about others. We saw great potential that would never make it to it’s full fruition because of the choices made by a kid who will forever realize all that he actually lost once it’s out of his reach. Fast money when illegal, has never bought about anything positive that was long lasting and you will find that same lesson to be true in this novel. The book is called “Gigolo” by Erick S. Gray.

Wow wow wow

I felt so bad for Kareem. Sins of the mother was his problem. His father loved her so much he couldn't think straight and Kareem did the same things as his mother. This is my first book by this author Erick Gray and in was phenomenal. I felt all of Kareem pain. Greed and lust are two of the deadly sins and he suffered from them both abundantly. I will read other books from this author. He is an excellent writer. I felt everything that was going on. Keep up the good work.

good read

This book was a good read, however certain parts didn't add up for me but I reminded myself this is fiction and to stop focusing on the little stuff. I love the message of the book and wouldn't mind a sequel involving Page, Essence, Toni and Nadine. I would recommend this book.
