Tales of Virillia: The Last Light

She wakes to a map she doesn’t remember drawing… and a life she can’t recall living.

In Tales of The Last Light, N.R. Ashworth invites you into a world where memory is fragile, magic is restless, and identity is something that can be stolen - or buried.

Azariah lives in a quiet cottage at the edge of nowhere, tracing the same inked paths across a worn map, chasing fragments of a past that refuses to return. Each attempt ends the same a pounding ache behind her eyes and the unsettling sense that something inside her is trying to break free. The map marks a journey she must have taken. The red X marks where she is now. But everything in between is gone.

Until the cracks begin to show.
A sharper pain. A flicker of recognition. A feeling that the life she’s living isn’t hers, not entirely. And beyond the safety of her small, dim world, Virillia vast, dangerous, and threaded with secrets that seem to know her better than she knows herself.

As memory and reality begin to blur, Azariah is pulled toward a truth that does not want to be found. Because forgetting was never an accident. And remembering may cost more than she’s ready to lose.

Told with a quiet intensity and a steady pull of mystery, The Last Light unfolds like a secret being uncovered piece by piece - where every answer leads deeper into the unknown, and every step forward risks awakening something long buried.

Some stories begin with a journey.
This one begins with what was taken, and what refuses to stay lost.

This book grabbed me from the start. The book is a slow build but in the best way. I felt like i went on the journey with Azariah. When reading you have the same amount of knowledge as she does and as she learns more and more so do you. I laughed, I held my breath, I felt strength from the people around her. The book has zero spice, but it didn’t need any, it kept me interested, kept me reading through the night to finish the book. Now I’ll just have to be patient, until the next installment of the story comes out!

This is an ARC review. I am very happy to be able to do this. But I’ll judge any book on the same system. This is my first review so i might change my rating system later on.

With my rating system this book gets a 7.5 if that’s not possible to give as a rating I’ll round it up to 8.

I went into Tales of Virillia: The Last Light expecting a typical fantasy setup, but it quickly turned into something more layered. The story follows Azariah as she tries to understand who she is and what happened to her, and that sense of confusion carries through in a way that makes you feel just as lost as she does—in a good way. The slow uncovering of her past, mixed with the strange magic and hints of something darker, kept me interested the whole time. I also really liked the dynamic with Kalia. It’s one of those books where you keep reading because you need answers, but you also enjoy sitting in the mystery for a while.

A missing past. A dangerous power. A truth that refuses to stay buried. Tales of Virillia: The Last Light follows Azariah as she searches for answers in a world that seems to know more about her than she does. As fragments of memory return, so do the dangers tied to them, forcing her to confront a past that may be more threatening than the unknown.

This opening to Tales of Virillia: The Last Light pulls you in with a quiet, unsettling mystery that steadily deepens into something much larger. It’s the kind of book that invites readers to keep digging for answers, delivering just enough revelation to satisfy while holding back enough to make you want to keep going.

The Last Light aloittaa Tales of Virillia -sarjan. Seuraavaa osaa odotellessa!

I'm not a huge fan of fantasy books, but I absolutely LOVE this book. Read it in less than 3 days. I just didn't wanna put it down.

This book is well written. What stood out to me was the character development was really well done. The pacing was a bit slow and the book really wasn't for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book early in return for my honest review.
