What'll We Do With All the Churches?: Lyrical Reflections on Faith, Belief, and Losing My Damn Religion.

Rate this book
What'll We Do With All the Churches? is a first of its kind book in the growing field of books about religious deconstruction, combining memoir with essay and music. Steve Perron, a former devout Christian who spent seven years in the seminary studying for the priesthood, tells the story behind the sometimes agonizing process of abandoning his faith and belief. An Emmy Award winning journalist and nationally recognized singer/songwriter, he also reports on the historic decline in religious affiliation in the United States in the 21st Century, all built around 13 original songs, they lyrics of which are included in the book. Readers are directed to a site where they can hear the songs, performed by the author.

Bought this after hearing him speak at the Ethical Society. Wonderfully written and includes lyrics to songs that he also wrote designed to make you think as he thought about religion, specifically Christianity, but also any religion that is based on magical thinking. Reflecting some of my own mental travails, I often thought this was my own story only without time in the seminary.
