Set on fire and fed to rats, Nick Dawkins can’t catch a break. Another storm is raging and the Maggots are loose, but this time, Nick isn't the only one at risk.
*Flypaper: Cast is a dark psychological thriller and is the third book of the Flypaper series. While it can be read on its own, you may enjoy reading the series in this order: Flypaper Flypaper: Opus Flypaper: Cast
Horror writer Nick Dawkins is the flypaper. His fanatical followers are known as maggots, and they are really quite stuck on him. These are not your garden variety fans. They are messed up. Indeed, they make Stephen King's Annie Wilkes seem as though she operates under the cool voice of reason.
Nick is recuperating at home from injuries suffered from one of his crazed fans. He's not doing much writing these days. For the most valid of reasons, he is paying a lot more attention to home security. His horrible mother is still in the picture, hanging around, trying to insinuate herself into his life.
Not quite as strong as the first two books in the series, in my opinion. I did enjoy getting to know CorpseFlower better. Still loving that book cover, as it continues to attract more and more flies.
I'm used to a series by a new author being good enough to grab my attention in the first book, then tapering off in quality until I finish and look back at my irretrievably squandered time, wondering "what the hell was the point of this again?" Not this time. These keep getting better. The detail, the prose, the characters, and enough reality that its not difficult to get immersed in the story...until you put the book down while wondering what's next.
Still entertaining series. I've got the next two lined up for this week if vacation I am in. This was a but of a bottle episode with the weather and injurednleg keeping Nick at home, but the few chapters abroad following various crazies was welcome to add some layers to this world and the characters. I'm also feeling more sure I know who the site administrator is and it's supporting a theory I had back to at least the beginning of book two. Looking forward to seeing if I am right.
