♾️/5⭐️ I was so excited when I received the arc as I’d been so looking forward for this books release! This is easily one of the best books I’ve ever read and I already find myself wanting to reread it because of how much I loved it! I’ve definitely found a new favourite author here! I feel like I could talk about this book forever and I can’t put into words how much I loved it!
The characters are absolutely amazing! They’re so likeable and have so much depth to them and are written in a way that makes them feel instantly alive on the page. From the very first time you meet them it’s as if you know them so well and it makes the book feel so comforting to read. I absolutely loved Nora’s personality and the anxiety representation was handled so well. It felt so accurate and I definitely related to her at times. I really appreciate the authors inclusion of this in a way that felt so natural and I love the way it stayed consistent throughout and the discussions around it. Hunter is the greenest of flags, I absolutely adored his personality!! He is the sweetest mmc, I absolutely love the way he treats everyone he cares about and also his sense of humour. The relationships he has with both his friends, family, Nora and the animals were all so beautiful to see, he’s the gentlest soul just like Nora and I fully rooted for both of them from the start, they’re truly made for each other. The relationship with his sisters and Mom were also amazingly well done and I absolutely loved seeing that dynamic as it added so much to both his story and the plot overall. The side characters also have such distinct personalities and they bring so much to the story. I absolutely loved the friend group, Hunters family and the others we met throughout the book especially Sebastian, Jade, Jasper, Hyacinth and Bastian! Even the animals personalities are so much fun too, I absolutely loved the sheep, Chewie and of course Verna and their interactions with Hunter were hilarious at times! The authors ability to create so much personality even from the smallest interactions is truly amazing and as someone who is very character driven when reading, this is definitely my favourite element of the whole book! (I now want to be an elf in their friend group having secret meetings surrounded by books and eating Rose and Hazels bakes and cinnamon buns!!)
The setting is described so beautifully and it’s so easy to visualise everything from the realm itself, to the trails, to the music academy, to the stores, to their homes, making you feel like you’re such a part of the storyline and their world. The plot itself was so engaging and definitely kept me wanting to read more and not put it down! This was such an immersive read with a unique plot and the authors world building instantly transports you to this world full of pure cozy escapism and has instantly become a comfort read for me. I just know I’m going to come back to read this again and again as this book feels like coming home and to characters that truly feel like family.
The authors other books have been on my tbr and now I definitely want to read them all as soon as possible! This was such an enjoyable read from start to finish and I’m really looking forward to any future books by the author! So excited to return to this world and characters and will hopefully pick up a physical copy once it’s released! Thank you so much again, I’m truly grateful to have had the opportunity to read this early!💚
Princess Nora has been battling her own crippling anxiety for so long she is basically a stranger to the whole kingdom. However, now that she feels stronger and more in control, things are about to change, with her coming incognito to Mountain Realms to study music at a famous dwarf academy, accompanied only by one guard disguised as her friend. And a potion in case of dire need when her anxiety goes through the roof. What she does not expect at all, though, is meeting an elf that can steal her heart, and a rescued wyvern whe can also connect with... and least of all, to get entangled in a secret rebellion against known criminals. This cozy, adventurous book was so easy to read! Nicely flowing, steadily developing on all fronts. I really liked the way Nora's anxiety was portrayed and handled in the book, and how her tentative connection with Hunter blossomed into something more. They had a lot of chemistry, and it truly felt like a teenage romance with secrets, drama, and trouble on both sides. It is inspiring how mental health problems can be brought to awareness through a well-written story. I very much enjoyed the book!
Having read all of Mary Stephenson Su's previous books I couldnt wait to get my ARC copy of this one. When I received my copy and started reading it, I wasnt disappointed.
Nora is so shy and reserved and gets stressed very easily and has an elixir on a chain round her neck for emergencies to help her calm down.. She is hoping to make friends while she is there, but doesnt want anyone to know she is a princess. But she is wondering if she has done the right thing coming to study music in the Mountain Realm along with her guard Hyacinth who is posing as a friend. When she first meets Hunter and his dog she thinks he is a vagabond as his clothes etc are dirty and covered in mud. As she gets to meet others who are studying there she starts making friends. She also get to know Hunter better and discovers he can talk to animals including an injured Wyvern he is nursing back to health. I love this book and cant wait for book 2 to see what happens next with Nora, Hunter, Hyacinth and their friends.
I received an ARC copy and this review is my honest opinion.
I really loved this book. It started slow and nicely paced while giving the need-to-know details so you weren't completely lost. This is one of my first reads from this author, and I was truly surprised by this book. I feel like it moved at just the right speed and was really cute and sweet. It had great adventure moments, sweet and warm moments with characters, and the world-building was fabulous. Lots of great details made it feel like I was there in the book, watching it through the eyes of the characters. I especially loved the character development of Nora, and the small but wonderful moments of Verna were some of my all-time favorite moments that I truly hope to see more of. I am excitedly waiting for book 2 and can't wait to dive back into this world!
This was my first book from this author and having the the opportunity to read this as and ARC was amazing. Fast paced and well written, keeping you on your toes.
All Nora (Princess Eleanora) wanted to do was study music and leaving the palace was the only way. Leaving for a new town, she choose to be be "non-royal" with her guard as her bestie. While in the town she befriends several elves and even falls for a young elf with a special ability.
While there she learns of a threat that is to take place during an upcoming wedding and they do everything to figure out what they can do to stop it. At the same time, Nora gets closer to her elven interest who has a special friend.
I would recommend this to all fantasy lovers no matter your age.
Bex and Cosmo go on a trip to buy a Grimoire at an estate sale. The problem is, the Grimoire is hidden. Bex’s witchy senses narrows down which possible lots it might be a part of, but new problems arise.
Bex is helped by Genie, who has a friendly ghost with her. The two pairs have different objects in their sights, but one common foe.
Join the foursome as they figure out who their foe is and how to get their relics without everyone learning their secrets. Another great adventure. Sometimes secrets are best kept to yourself, for a while, especially if you are a shy princess. Nora wanted to study music and make some friends. She does that and so much more. She even gets to help gain information like a spy. Read to see how shy Nora makes friends, some closer than others, and helps crack the mystery of the pixie puffballs.
I really wanted to love this, but I struggled. First of all, the world is lovely. The characters tend to the cozy, and the world sounds just beautiful.
Where I struggled though was how I would market this. The characters are rather immature, and are constantly making choices that I'm just positive will come back to bite them in the end. (An incognito princess, wandering around sans body guard, with the well-intentioned village boy. What could go wrong!) So, the book reads fairly young, but there's just so. much. kissing. It's non-explicit, mind you, but honestly. So much more than I was expecting. I don't think I'd hand it to a middle-schooler...but I wouldn't recommend it to an adult, either. It doesn't come off as swoony, just....teenage-angsty and kind of cringey.
I received this ebook from the author in exchange for my honest review. This is one of the sweetest stories of support and friendship. I really liked how Nora and Hunter each grew emotionally as time went by. They each were able to understand where they went wrong and how to take steps to be better people. They highlight respect for boundaries, understanding other people’s feelings, consent, and taking responsibility for their actions. The characters are well rounded and full of empathy. I enjoyed how they all had distinct personalities. It’s definitely a book and author I would recommend for adolescent readers.
This was so innocent and sweet—I genuinely loved it. The cozy fantasy setting, filled with magical beings and a small-town feel, made everything feel warm and comforting from start to finish.
I really enjoyed how the characters, despite the fantasy elements, still dealt with very human problems and relationships. There’s a strong sense of community, with everyone coming together and learning to trust each other when things get difficult, which I really appreciated. The mix of miscommunication, awkward friendships, royalty, and music made the story feel charming and relatable. Overall, it was a wholesome, feel-good read with just the right touch of magic and heart.
I’m so honoured to read an arc of a book that really spoke to me. Nora’s struggle with anxiety is something I know all too well and the author handled the topic with care and accuracy. I loved that all the animals had their own little personalities. I liked the side characters, all characters- main and side, had depth to them. The writing was easy to read for me with my dyslexia. I thought the final 15% was a bit anticlimactic (plot wise) and some things needed more context throughout the book but that didn’t dim the enjoyment too much for me. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
Princess Eleanora is shy, and when her family and herself were abducted, and her father died she became a recluse -hardly leaving the castle - but music helps her and going to music school.
She goes to learn from the Dwarves and talks her sister, who is the queen, to just let her take one guard so she can "pretend" to be normal. While there she gets caught up with what she believes, are anarchists, but they are actually trying to stop anarchy and falls in love with a man that hates her at first.
This author's tale of love, misunderstandings and personal growth is a sweet romance following a princess's attempt to live as a normal person as she pursues her education. The romance follows almost inevitably after Nora and Hunter's disastrous first meeting. What makes this more than the usual sugary sweet romance is the fight that several characters have over their personal insecurities. This may have been low on action but high in personal engagement. I enjoyed this!
I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Weddings and Wyverns is the first book in the Mountain Realms series. Author Mary Stephenson Su built a fantastical world and quickly draws the reader into the elven small-town community. I love that Hunter can communicate with animals and I so appreciate the anxiety representation and how Nora handles herself. This is such a fun read that contains fantasy, suspense, romance and more and is appropriate for young teens though adults. I look forward to reading the rest of the series!
This book is fun. The author writes wonderful books about the worlds that elves inhabit and this one is wonderful too. I enjoy seeing life through the world of elves. While they are similar to us, their world is definitely unique and that, to me, is where the fun comes in. There is also some romance mixed in that is sweet and not spicy. A very enjoyable book and I recommend it!
This was an absolutely adorable story! The characters were sweet and felt very real. It definitely feels very YA, but I don't mind that (especially when it's promoted as such). It had very cozy vibes, and was a fun and pretty quick read. I really loved the anxiety rep in this one too. Very well done! I look forward to reading more by this author!
I really enjoyed this clean fantasy! It continued the story told in the first books in this series, with elves and dwarves. This one also had a Wyvern playing a critical part, which was pretty neat! the book does mention one LGTB side character, which made me a bit uncomfortable, but otherwise I loved the story! I received an ARC copy and this is my review.
Clean fantasy book! It’s a tale of love, personal growth, misunderstandings and more. This makes it real to the reader with the love story as well as the fight the characters have. Real life feels. Mental health awareness is written throughout the story. Pick this one up today!
A very cute read. Excited to read the prequel and learn more about Everlee’s story. A few places were hard to get through, a lot of back peddling or over explanations. Nothing that would ruin it, mind you. Over all, very much a good YA read.
When you are a royal princess it's impossible to find real friends. And if you have anxiety problems with social contacts, your life is very difficult, precisely if you are said princess! This is Eleanora who visits the Mountain Realms to study music incognito. One by one she's making friends and love finds her, too, but not without complications! The story continues from the Valley Glen Elves series where a villainous lord fled to his home in the Mountain Realms before he could be brought to justice. Shockingly it's a family member of one of Nora's new friends... This novel is full with likable characters, endearing people and funny, helpful animals, heartwarming and wonderful to read! 🥰 I'm sure the next installment will have a connection to the Mountain Mafia and be very exciting! Can't wait! I got an ARC copy and this is my personal opinion - loved it!
I enjoyed this story and what happens when a Princess travels in secret, makes friends, and finds a conspiracy that needs stopping. I laughed, enjoyed all the characters and the light drama. Easy to read and enjoy it all.
Incredibly captivating!!! Book one of the Mountain Realm series by Mary Stephenson Su is a story that grabs you from the first page and you can't put it down til the end! There is adventure, a little action, twists and turns, surprises and magic. The characters are all very well written. I really like the depth of the two MC'S, Nora and Hunter, she writes in. They are personable, engaging, and fun to watch Nora as she comes out of her shell. Mary's brilliant world is vivid, beautiful, detailed and so,so magical. I absolutely love this book and highly recommend reading it!
