Five Voices by Tamara Moss (Allen & Unwin) is such a standout for me! It's a full five‑star hit across all my favourite elements: podcast angle, five friends with tangled secrets, and a proper whodunit that kept me second‑guessing everyone. I devoured it in two days. The multiple narratives threw me off at first, but once I settled in, I was fully locked in. Every character felt real, flawed, and hiding something messy, which made the whole story feel alive and unpredictable.
What really worked for me was how the tension built without giving away too much too soon. Each character added a new shade to the mystery, and the pacing kept me turning pages. It’s twisty, character‑driven, and emotional in a way that makes you feel like you’re right there with them. Since it’s not out until the 1st of September, I’ll keep this spoiler‑free. Trust me, it’s gripping, clever, and absolutely worth the read.

Captivating and compelling. It's like the final year of high school with so many conflicting paths, opportunities and feelings - but with a murder mystery thrown in. Amazing characters their voices are so real to the reader which is an amazing job from the author. I really want to listen to this fictional podcast! Loved the drama and suspense as well. I read through it at the edge of my seat!! So many important topics around mental health, online fandoms, drugs, familial relationships and consent. A really important book for now and another brilliant novel from author Tamara Moss!

Five Voices by Tamara Moss had me guessing the whole way through! I really loved the mystery in this one and how it kept me constantly questioning everyone. I definitely had a few suspicions along the way, but I honestly did not pick who had done it, which made the reveal even better.
I also wasn’t expecting this book to make me as emotional as it did. There were a few moments that really got me and added so much more depth to the story.
This was such an engaging read, I also renjoyed njoyed the multiple POV's and flashbacks. I think these were done really well!
I had so much fun trying to piece everything together as I went. If you love a mystery that keeps you guessing until the end, I definitely think this one is worth picking up! A huge thank you to Allen & Unwin for sending me a review copy.

Chock-a-block with secrets, suspects and seriously complicated people
Five Voices is one of those books where I reached about 69% and genuinely wondered how there could possibly still be so much left to uncover. Not because nothing was happening. Quite the opposite. This book is absolutely chock-a-block with everything.
Five friends anonymously host a successful podcast, each hiding behind a pseudonym, until they are doxed and their real identities are exposed. When one of the five dies, there are secrets everywhere, plenty of reasons not to trust anyone, and an increasingly complicated picture of what has really been happening behind the microphones.
I genuinely loved the quirky format. The story moves between multiple protagonists, flashbacks and snippets of podcast transcripts taken from different episodes and points in time. Those fragments gradually add little pieces to the bigger picture, and I really enjoyed trying to work out what mattered and how everything connected.
The characterisation was also excellent, although strangely I can't say I particularly liked any of the main characters. William, in particular, was a thoroughly bad egg whom I would happily have thrown into the sea. Simone was going through an enormous amount, but I struggled to connect with her. Even the characters I sympathised with would then do something that frustrated me.
Oddly, I think that's one of the book's strengths.
These didn't feel like characters carefully constructed to make me love or hate them. They felt like complicated people. Teenagers don't have one personality trait, one problem or one neat piece of emotional baggage. Neither do adults. People can be kind in one situation and selfish in another, make terrible decisions for understandable reasons, love someone and hurt them, or be dealing with things that nobody around them knows about. Five Voices really captures that messiness.
It also tackles a huge number of difficult subjects, including addiction, suicide, consent, racism, sexuality, online bullying and doxing. That's a lot for one novel to carry, particularly a YA novel, but I appreciated that these subjects weren't sugarcoated or reduced to clichés.
My main criticism is simply that there is so much of everything. At around 470 pages, this is a long YA novel, and eventually I needed a breather. It wasn't dragging because the story had become boring. New things were constantly happening and new information kept emerging. It was almost the opposite problem: every character had so much going on that by the time the major revelations started arriving, I couldn't believe there was still another third of the book to go. I think the same story could have been told more tightly without losing its complexity.
I did, however, really enjoy playing detective. There are plenty of suspicious characters and enough information scattered throughout the different perspectives and transcripts to encourage theories without making the final answer obvious. The eventual resolution made sense and felt satisfying rather than something pulled out at the last minute.
I also got an enormous personal kick out of the Perth setting. I grew up in Perth and went to Edith Cowan University on the Mount Lawley campus, the same campus as WAAPA, so I knew the suburbs and local references and even knew exactly what WAAPA was before the book explained it. There was something particularly fun about encountering such familiar places inside this very twisty story.
Cleverly structured, extremely well written and populated by realistically imperfect people, Five Voices gave me a lot to think about and plenty to try to solve. I just wish it had given me slightly less of it.

This is my first Tamara Moss read, and it absolutely did not disappoint!😱😱
Five Voices follows five teenagers; Rosie, Zac, Ocean, Simone and William - who are connected through a popular podcast. But when one of them dies shortly after a recording, the remaining four suddenly find themselves at the centre of a murder investigation, with everyone questioning what really happened and who can be trusted…
I’ll be honest, the beginning took me a little while to get into. There are so many characters introduced, alongside multiple POVs, dates and times, and it took me roughly the first 20% for my brain to properly click into who everyone was and how their stories connected. Once I got past that initial confusion, though, I was completely invested!!!!!
I really enjoyed the multiple POVs once I found my footing. Every character had their own secrets, flaws and complicated lives, and I loved slowly uncovering the different layers to each of them. The podcast transcripts between chapters were also such a fun addition and gave little glimpses into the relationships between the characters and what may have been happening beneath the surface.
And THAT plot twist?! 😳 I genuinely did not see it coming. It completely shocked me, and I definitely had a “wait… WHAT?!” moment. I love when a mystery manages to surprise me, and this one absolutely did!!
I also appreciated that the story goes deeper than just the mystery. Mental health and some heavier, more emotional topics are explored throughout (mention of murder and suicide), adding another layer to the characters and their experiences.
My main reason for giving this four stars rather than five was the pacing. There were a few moments where the story dragged slightly for me, particularly while I was still trying to keep track of everyone. But once everything clicked, I was hooked and wanted to know how it was all going to unravel.

I want to start by saying a huge thank you to Allen and Unwin publishers for sending me a proof copy of this book. And of course, to the wonderful Tamara Moss, you have written a book that will be sitting in mystery genre hall of fame!
I absolutely loved this book so much! While it was initially confusing with so many characters being introduced at once, I quickly became so hooked in the story and so invested in the characters.
And there were so many things I loved about how Tamara Moss set up this story. First, I loved how she keeps you second guessing your theories about the plot. While I was reading, I kept thinking ‘omg, I think this guy killed him’, and then she’ll reveal something that makes your second yourself. And then she’ll make you think that another character killed him, but then reveal something else that makes you second guess yourself again. And that in itself made me want to never put this book down.
Second, I loved how she dropped like 10 plot twists in this one book. That is what I love in any book genre: when there are so many plot twists that make you want to stare at wall, scream at the top of your lungs, throw the book across the room, and keep reading all at the same time.
Can you tell I went through an emotional rollercoaster while reading this book?
The one thing I wasn’t expecting was how batshit crazy all the characters are. They seriously need to go to therapy because what the heck is wrong with them? Honestly, because they were so crazy, I didn’t like any of them, but they definitely redeemed themselves when they realised their toxic traits at the end of the book.
Babes, if you’re a fan of One of Us Is Lying by Karen McManus, you will binge-read this book. And even if you’ve never read One of Us Is Lying, still go read this book because it is AMAZING!

I absolutely loved this! The fast-paced energy and dual timeline really helped bring the whole plot together while giving us insight into each character’s personality, secrets and changing opinions of William throughout the story. Although this is YA, I’d definitely say it’s on the older side, as it explores some heavier topics, so please check the trigger warnings beforehand. There were so many incredible surprises—I was convinced I knew who the killer was multiple times and even when I was certain, I ended up being completely wrong! I also loved the focus on mental health, perfectionism, living up to high expectations and navigating complicated group dynamics.

This one genuinely gripped me from the very first page and there was not a single moment where I felt bored or that things needed to pick up. Mysterious text messages, police investigations, blackmail, a defamatory article, stalking… it was an enthralling ride from start to finish, and I was flying through those pages.
Five Voices starts by introducing us to each of the podcast members through their respective chapters, planting the seeds surrounding events precipitating William’s death and painting them each as potential suspects. What follows is a twisty, riveting and jaw-dropping journey towards exposing the truth.
I loved not only the bingeable nature of this book, but that it also included the exploration of more sensitive topics like mental health, complex familial relationships, and loss and grief, which brought a depth to the characters. They also each had a distinct voice and presence, making it easy to differentiate between them. This was all the more impressive, given the host of supporting characters that were involved. The pairings (Zac x Charlie; Adelaide x Rosie; Simone x Dez) also helped to cement differences, establishing them as separate but interconnected relationships within the broader friendship circle.
The inclusion of texts and raw episode transcripts (and thus the multimedia format) was a refreshing switch-up from the traditional block of text, giving us both humorous insight into the characters’ dynamic with one another and their stances on some controversial topics being covered. This was such a fun and engaging read that is true to its comparisons to AGGGTM and similarly addictive stories!

Oh, wow!
This book was like a slowly brewing inferno that consumed me whole!
Imagine five friends, Rosie, William, Simone, Zac & Ocean, running a popular podcast. They seem so cool and cheerful on their recording, so entertaining and funny.
Lovely people, indeed.
Until you take a closer look at their lives that are hidden behind the closed doors, in secret meetings, secret messages, secrets, secrets, secrets…. And not so good ones.
And then, BOOM! One of them dies, so suddenly.
Sometimes the death is the final act, the closure, the ending. In this case, it worked like an unwrapping ribbon that opened a box of devastating truth about all five of those so-called friends. The death of one of them triggered afwul exposure of each of them, revealing their stories full of shame.
William Drax Du Pont, the golden boy on Porsche, was a monster, and so he died for it.
But what about the rest of them?

This book was like a slowly brewing inferno that consumed me whole!
Imagine five friends, Rosie, William, Simone, Zac & Ocean, running a popular podcast. They seem so cool and cheerful on their recording, so entertaining and funny.
Lovely people, indeed.
Until you take a closer look at their lives that are hidden behind the closed doors, in secret meetings, secret messages, secrets, secrets, secrets…. And not so good ones.
And then, BOOM! One of them dies, so suddenly.
Sometimes the death is the final act, the closure, the ending. In this case, it worked like an unwrapping ribbon that opened a box of devastating truth about all five of those so-called friends. The death of one of them triggered afwul exposure of each of them, revealing their stories full of shame.
William Drax Du Pont, the golden boy on Porsche, was a monster, and so he died for it.
But what about the rest of them?

Such a captivating book with so many twists and turns you don't see coming. THE UNRELIABLE NARRATOR 😮💨😮💨😮💨
I really enjoyed the multi POV where you get to see each of the characters facing their own dilemmas with it being intertwined with the other members of the 5 voices. You're introduced to the 5 voices team (Rosie, William, Simone, Zac and Ocean) from the outside view as a prologue (hours before the death of William) which has brilliant foreshadowing!!! Personally I should have been looking back at with reading the book but I was so absorbed. William is suspected to be foul play by police and Rosie who was on the phone to him moments before his death wants to know who did it. Each member has a motive as to why they might want to kill William and you find them out as you read.
This is such a layered murder mystery and there is so many secrets brewing between each of the members of the 5 voice that come to light. YALL THERE ARE SO MANY TWISTS AND TURNS THAT HAVE ME ABSOULUTELY SCREAMING. AND IT IS SOOOO well done, I didn't even realise that I was coming to the end of the book and it was close to midnight, it is so captivating. Tamara excels in drip feeding little jewels of information you don't realise you have until you reread portions of it and has created such a captivating YA murder mystery that will keep you guessing right until the last page.

I love mystery, I read a lot of mystery, so it shouldn't be taken lightly when I say that this was a really freakin good read.
Yes, we have the mystery of who killed William and as all the secrets these friends have been keeping start to come out, you're left wondering about the lengths these kids would go to to keep them buried, but the mystery is almost the smallest elephant in this room.
We’ve got a group of young adults who are each dealing with a multitude of issues that generally raise the questions of “what is right and wrong” and “what makes a person *bad*”
And I think it addresses these dilemas in an incredibly skilful way, espeically for the young adult audience that this book is being targeted at.
They're at that age where they've just left school, everything is changing, and suddenly they're in this world where the black-and-white outlook they’ve been raised with no longer applies quite so cleanly to the world around them.

This one really brings everything to the table to make it the perfect YA thriller novel. Teenage friendship groups, complicated relationships with parents, young love, partying and all the pros and cons that come with it.
I loved the short chapters and multiple POVs, which made this such an easy and entertaining read. I also loved how the story highlights so many issues within the young adult world, from friendship and relationship drama and bullying to drugs and alcohol, while still delivering an engaging thriller.
Each character’s personality really came to life, and the whole group gave me a bit of a bunch of misfits feel, mixed with the drama of Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars. 👀
This was actually my first YA read, and while I did enjoy it, I did feel like it was better suited to a YA audience. It will definitely appeal to younger readers who love a mix of friendship drama, secrets and mystery.

I love a fast paced YA thriller and this one did not disappoint! Five Voices follows five teen podcasters who have recently had their secret identities exposed after a doxxing incident. While dealing with the fallout of their new public notoriety, a fight occurs during the recording of one of their episodes. Hours later, one of the members of Five Voices is found dead. All evidence is pointing to one of them, but who was it and can you trust those who you thought you knew everything about?
This was enjoyable and kept me guessing along the way. We have four POVs and the timeline jumps to the week before the murder and after. Along the way you are questioning everybody, they all had motive and they all had secrets they wanted kept. There’s just something fun about a young adult murder mystery (even if these are highly unlikely to occur in real life) and I was able to read this book in two sittings. Highly recommend.

ARC review!
This book was a lot of fun! Quite darker than i was anticipating for a YA but i’m not complaining. I enjoyed the back and forth of before Wills death and after. But a lot of the time what the previous character was discussing relates to what is discussed in the next chapter with a new character perspective. It allowed the shift from past to present flow a lot better. Having so many characters did make it confusing at times but it was overall done well. The most confusing character to follow was Solane but that’s literally the whole but which is explored. I really enjoyed how no character was innocent. They all had their own baggage that lead to their own decisions. I will say their lack of communication together was FRUSTRATING!! But hey they’re teenagers. I really enjoyed the plot twist because i was not satisfied with Bryce as the killer and I was not expecting Adelaide. So i was happy happy. Overall fun read! Can’t wait to recommend it!

This book was a page-turner once it got going. It was intriguing and fresh.

I liked how the book swapped between Rosie, Zac, Ocean, and Simone’s POV. However, it did take me awhile to wrap my head around each of their lives. (You might want to take notes! 😆)
I adored the snippets of podcast transcripts between chapters. They often revealed something about the way the four interacted with William.
The main thing that stopped this from being a 5 star read was the pacing. Some parts of this book dragged for me.

Five Voices was a fun five-star read. It's told from five alternating points of view, and I found it a little challenging at first to remember who was who, their Five Voices (5V) nickname, and how everyone fit together. Once I got everything straight in my head, though, I was completely hooked.
The story centres around a podcast where the hosts play old-fashioned card games while discussing controversial topics. The timeline shifts backwards and forwards, gradually revealing what happened in the past and steadily building the suspense as the bigger picture comes into focus.
There are plenty of twists, secrets, and red herrings as you try to work out who the killer is. As suspicion grows, the members of the 5V cast begin to doubt one another, making it impossible to know who to trust. It kept me guessing right until the end, and I thoroughly enjoyed trying to piece everything together.

It took me quite a long time to get through this book but I don't blame the book at all. I really enjoyed it. I kept being surprised over and over again. I loved how the characters were all so different but just worked as a team. All the relationships were quite messy but it made for such an interesting read. The mystery parts really kept me on my toes and I kept wondering what happened and what would happen next. I also really enjoyed the format where we had flashbacks and the timeline was all over the place. It was just really such a good story and book all over. It made me want to read more books by this author.

I thoroughly enjoyed this YA Thriller, it kept me guessing and finding their secrets out was wild.
