The first part of this book was a sweet romance tale that awkwardly described sex taking place off-screen without actually showing it... which just felt, really odd in this book. Hollis Shiloh never writes sex, but in most of her other books it's a lot better done. Usually because the book has the big "finally getting together" scene that's emotionally riveting and so you don't mind that she faded to black for the sex. In this book, though, they were having a lot of sex, and it was briefly described, but not shown. It felt really out of place.

However, most of the book is a long, boring story involving accounting fraud, family drama, etc. It might not have been boring if she had handled it well, but it's mostly long paragraphs like "Kase and Conner worked at the factory while Anna stayed home with her mom. It was really obvious that Anna and Eleanor missed each other. Kase and Jody were also spending a lot of time having hot sex. Very, hot sex. That you don't get to see. And they hired a lawyer to deal with their issues, and the kids really liked having Jody around." Like, ughh. SHOW DON'T TELL *shouts at book*.

I got to about 60% before I started skimming because I realized that I didn't care about anything else happening besides the romance, and at 75% I just gave up entirely because it seemed the romance plot was over, and we were just ironing out job situations and pack dynamics. Yawn.

This story lacked plot. It meandered around building into small conflicts but never coalescing into an overlying issue to be solved. By the end it felt a bit more like the author was trying to write out everything that's wrong with the world and have it fixed because of love.

Not sure but the number of name errors in the book made me feel like this is a plagiarised book.
The story was ok, but on top of the errors with names, the scenes were too choppy and boring.

Boring. The second half or more of the book read mostly like an epilogue: mostly everything that happened was just mentioned in passing. There were a few scenes that had detail and conflict, but the majority seemed to be a large summary.

An unexpectedly well written story. I'd read a few others by this author and had found them sort of blah. This one, however, captured me in its entirety. The rolling, telling by one werewolf, Kase, describes his life since his father had asked him to leave. No gay son of mine...

Kase's wanderings get him caught up in trouble, help coming from another alpha who just so happens to have a gay son of his own. While no match-making had been intended, Kase bonds quickly to Jody and so begins the ups and downs of being together while dealing with family and pack and all that comes with it.

I mention the telling, but it's descriptive in an emotional way. The intimate scenes were short, loving, and most faded away nicely. This overall story probably won't be everyone 's cup of tea, but I found the whole to be engaging.

Pretty good shifter story involving Kase and Jody who meet after Kase gets bailed out of jail by Jody's father. Kase isn't comfortable being alone really after he's already kicked out of his father's pack for being gay, but he also isn't comfortable joining Terry's pack either. There are a lot of family issues involved for him and even though he really likes Jody, he worries that he's jumping into something that he doesn't really understand. Having been on his own and not having a "normal" upbringing since his mother died when he was young and his father just trained him to be the hired muscle, Kase is insecure in his decision making. The one thing he does figure out though is he doesn't want to be apart from Jody.

Jody's got his own family and pack issues and his father Terry figures prominently. The pack isn't on the up and up and Kase is constantly worried something will happen. When it does, there are dire implications for everyone.

Kase and Jody have to work at their relationship. They are young and neither is very knowledgeable, but they do recognize that their mate bond is strong and it's definitely worth fighting for.

I want to go back and read the story that is also in this world. Brian's Mate. However, this is a standalone story. It's not necessary to read it before reading this book, but I'm interested to see the dynamic in that story as well.

I like the way that the shifter society was portrayed din this book. Not perfect but trying to fit in with the modern world and expanding human society. There was no shying away from the difficulties that this created for wolves. I also like that the characters were not all good or all bad. There was self doubt and mistakes, but that each character stayed true to themselves. I dislike sudden changes and caricature cartoon style personalities so I was pleasantly surprised.

I was expecting lots of homophobia and maybe violence especially as it was wolves but again I was pleasantly surprised. I thought this was handled well and it was a refreshing change. Also appreciated was that although one of the major lines in the plot, two of the main characters being in a gay relationship wasn't all the book had to offer. It was great to read a rounded story not just written for the sake of the one relationship, although that was the focus that brought everything together. I would read more from this author, and even about this pack and these characters.

This is a well crafted story that doesn't just stop with the mating. The book expands on what takes place in the "happily ever after". We see how Kase and Jody's relationship grows, is tested, and strengthens. They take on more family and pack, making home in their hearts and lives for a diverse group of people. There is a lot here about breaking away from parents and their expectations. Both Kase and Jody struggle with not fitting into the mold that their fathers want to cast them in. Seeing them find a way away from that pain and internalization was quite powerful. The core relationship between Kase and Jody is warm, beautiful, and sexy. Unlike many of Hollis's other books there are some sex scenes including sex in wolf form. I found myself reaching the end and wanting to know more, having grown fond of and invested in the characters and the life they've carved out. A great, touching read.

The writing style is good, energetic and has a good rhythm to it. My biggest complaint was the plot, which felt a bit crammed and way too convenient. One page declares the desire for pups, and the second page pups magically appear. Also, the relationship between Jody and Kase was a little strange- probably more realistic than most romance novels, where the couples do not communicate well but the disputes are small and easily fixed (as opposed to typical style romance novels, where the fallout of poor communication is inevitably dramatic tragedy). Still, their interactions felt a bit off to me, and made it hard to care about them. Also, the constant referral to sex was blunt and boringly written, meaning you don't need to have a sentence every 3 pages stating 'The sex was awesome.' 'Lots of sex was had' etc etc. (paraphrasing, not actual quotes).

Hollis Shiloh has yet to disappoint me. This story was very satisfying. Kase was an enforcer for his very harsh Alpha/father. When he came out to his father he was banished. Jody was a fighter for his father/Alpha, he wasn't banished just made to feel other. The two of them hit it off immediately, then have to learn how to be together and for Kase learn to accept that Jody is his mate. I love the way this story builds the relationships not only with each other but with their families, blood, pack and adopted. It also took me along for their journey to become strong independent, competent leaders, even when they weren't sure that's what they wanted to be. I totally enjoyed this book.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Cute shifter story.
Kase is a lone wolf, having left his pack after coming out - unfortunately, caught up in a bar brawl it looks like he's headed for jail when his fine is paid by Terry, alpha of the local pack. Invited to join their pack Kase declines when he discovers they have a number of illegal interests, however, that doesn't stop him and the alpha's son Jody becoming mates. When the pack falls apart after Terry, one of his enforcers and the pack accountants are arrested the pack splits, with Kase and Jody starting their own, along with Kase's brother Connor and Jody's pregnant unmarried sister Anna.

This was a sweet story (most of the intimate scenes are fade to black/off page) with low angst, but not quite low enough to be pure sugar fluff.

I absolutely loved this wonderful story about gay wolf shifters. There are a number of emotional issues that are explored here and the results are very satisfying. Sons who have been pushed away by their fathers band together to form a family, and attract other outsiders as well. They do not live in isolation, but rather in harmony with those around them.
One minor issue is the inconsistency of werewolf lore here. They can eat raw eggs because they are immune to disease (page 79 Kindle edition), but several younger wolves have colds, the primary couple need to use condoms before they are tested as negative for disease, and smoking is bad for them too.
Oh, and on page 78, him is spelled hm.

Nice and good described shifter story. I liked the connection between Kase and Jody. They are mates, meant for each other. They interact natural and were a good team in dealing with the troubling business of Jody's family.
What I've missed at the beginning was the sexual interaction or to be concrete the lack of description of those scenes.
The intercourses were summarised briefly - sometimes a bit unsatisfying :/ - at the end the scenes got more graphic so I ask myself: where have they been before? o.Ô :o
All in all a quite pleasant book.
3.5/4 stars out of 5 ;)

Intriguing story

Not a typical shifter story..I wasn't sure going in how I would feel. I really liked it! Well developed characters and a great storyline, there was so much emotion and humor at times. It was great to see the relationship that developed between Kase and Jody...their insecurities, trying to figure out how they fit together, how to build a life upon the relationship they started. Great secondary characters, well written...I hope there are more to follow!

I liked the differences presented by the author in relation to shifters. All the characters in the book were interesting, as well as the settings. The only thing I didn't like was how the sexual encounters went dark, nothing wrong with the event itself, but the after fact felt awkward.

What a great shifter story this was. Kase is a lone wolf when he finds his mate Jody. It's just a great story. I'm not going to give spoilers. This is a must read if you love a great shifter story.

While I liked the overall story behind this book, I don't feel like it hit the mark as well as it should have. The characters were all really good, I just wish there had been more depth to them all.
