Lucy & Harris #1

Catching Lucy

Lucy

Everyone has ups and downs. I’m no different. I’ve had some really amazing ups, but I’ve also had some crap-tastic downs.

When I was four, my biological mother died. I don’t remember crying for her. She’d never been the type to cuddle me, tuck me in, and read bedtime stories. That job was pushed off onto my sister Lana. She did her best to take care of me until Mom died. After the funeral we went to live with our older sister, Layla and I got to see what a real mother was supposed to be like.

When I was six we moved to Malibu for Layla’s new job as the housekeeper to one of the worlds most popular rock bands and their manager. When my sisters told me that we were going to live with Demons I was definitely not looking forward to it. Then I met Nik, Drake, Shane, Emmie and the man that would one day become one of my favorite people in the world. Jesse Thornton.

By Christmas my oldest sister was married to the Demon’s Wings drummer. Six months later they made me theirs and adopted me. The day I became Jesse’s daughter was one of the best days of my life. I felt like I belonged to someone for the first time in my life.

But you know the rules of fate, or at least the rules it feels like those bitches have specifically for me. Something truly amazing always seems to be followed by something really, really shitty. When I was nine, my real dad was released from prison and tried to take me. I still have nightmares about that night.

I got through it, though. My parents sent me to a good therapist, but it was my best friend Harris who really got me through that time in my life. When I couldn’t sleep I would call him and no matter how tired he was he would stay up and talk to me until I would finally fall into an exhausted sleep. He was the kind of friend that one text and he would drop everything for me.

To bad my hormones got in the way of our friendship. At twelve, puberty hit me hard, and the love I felt for my best friend got complicated with a crush. They’re called crushes for a reason, something I’d learned real quick that year. I pushed him away to avoid the agonizing pain that my crush made me feel.

Now it’s been years since I’ve seen him. He’s graduated from college and moved forward with his dream by opening his first club. First Bass is the most popular nightclub in not just Los Angeles, but all of California. I’m so proud of him, but I’ve avoided going to check it out. After an email that twisted my heart into knots I’m finally going to head over there.

Maybe I won’t still be crushing on him. Maybe we can go back to being best friends.

Maybe…

The series will have 3 novellas and end with a full length book in 2016.

Catching Lucy was the first book in the Lucy and Harris series by Terri Anne Browning. It was a short introduction that served as the beginning / prequel for Lucy Thornton and Harris Cutter.

Lucy was the Princess Rocker. She was the adopted daughter to Jesse Thornton, the drummer for the famous rock band, Demon’s Wings. She was four when her mother died and her older sister became her mother. She was six when her sister / mother had met and married Jesse; who then adopted Lucy. They are close and the only parents she had ever known.

Harris Cutter was the son to Devin Cutter, the drummer for the famous rock band OtherWorld. The bands Demon’s Wings and OtherWorld had the same manager, toured together frequently, and were like one big family. Harris was five years older than Lucy but they grew up together and became best friends.

When Lucy was eleven and Harris was sixteen, Lucy began to crush on Harris. She distanced herself from him when he began to date. Catching Lucy began when Lucy was seventeen and Harris had just graduated from college and returned home to open his dream club, First Bass.

Catching Lucy was very short. As the first novella in the series, it didn’t cover much ground except for setting the stage for the series. I enjoyed it but felt it needed more substance. I’m looking forward to continuing the series and hopefully diving deeper into both characters. Thankfully when I read this, this first novella was free, the rest of the series has been released and I can continue reading it as one novel. My recommendation to the author is to create a box set as one purchase so it can be purchased and read all at once.

Alright folks, sorry to say this one's gonna be a flamer...get your extinguishers ready.

So I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the Rocker series had a spin-off about Lucy & Harris. Now, for the most part I've enjoyed the Rocker series, some more than others, some not at all and unfortunately... disappointingly this is one I absolutely did not like!

Lucy was a sweetheart before, but now she's just an immature asshole with a hot bod apparently. Seriously, maybe I'm too "old" to appreciate her invented angst over her friendship/relationship with Harris but this is thee most ridiculous piece of contrived bullshit I've read in a while. This is only a novella but there are quite a few issues I have with this story, so let's dive into it. Spoilers ahead, be forewarned:

I adore the Demon series, so reading about the younger siblings and their descent into adulthood is an added bonus. Lucy and Harris are both characters who have essentially retained their likability and the romance aspect feels real and not contrived. Anxiously awaiting the next installment.

Lucy & Harris were friends from the moment they met. Best Friends. There 4 year age difference did not really matter. Until Lucy turned 12 and her the love she felt for her best friend became a crush. Lucy was scared of what she was feeling for Harris and started pushing him away. Harris tried to hold unto Lucy, especially since they were thrown together a lot because their families were really tight.

Harris at the age of 21 still wanting Lucy in his life invites her to his NEW CLUB. Lucy knew Harris’s dream was to open a nightclub and now he had achieved that dream. Lucy was unsure if she could be friends with Harris and if her crush would go back to just friendship. But after feeling so happy being friends with Harris again she decided to give it a try.

Harris was only looking for Lucy’s friendship when he invited her to the nightclub but once she was actually with him he realized he was in love with his best friend. Unsure of how she would take the news of this and the potential to lose Lucy because of these feelings he decided to hide them as best he could.

Harris getting feed up seeing all the guys flirting with Lucy and knowing after his blowup at his friend over this girl was a really bad thing he decided to make a move. But he had to wait one more month until Lucy turned 18. Plus there was the scary DEMONS to worry about and Jesse Thornton was going to kill him if he touched his daughter.

Lucy & Harris is a great story between the two childhood friends. They were super close when they were younger and you could feel the love they had for each other as best friends. But you could understand Lucy’s feelings for Harris as her hormones took over and her feelings changed. Seeing Harris date girls his age broke her heart and she could not handle the feelings that she had so she walked away.

Harris never really understood why Lucy pushed him away and you feel bad that one day his best friend was there for him and the next just gone.

Seeing the love blossom as the two reunite was superior writing. I love this relationship and can’t wait to see what happens in Craving Lucy.

I did not enjoy the Rockers series (quit after book 3) but I received the first 2 books (novellas) free and the audiobooks are free with audible escapes so I figured what the heck.

Book 1 is short, but pretty uneventful. Lucy is very immature, and it was hard to enjoy the story. Her actions are very YA with the silly immature angst, but the book is supposed to be for grownups. The entire conflict of this book (per summary) is that Lucy and Harris were BFF's but she fell in love with him so she pushed him out of her life. I found this ridiculous.

She came across as immature, spoiled and just bitchy. It makes me nuts when little bratty bitchy characters are referred to as "sassy" or "fiesty". Labeling it doesn't make a character into a strong woman, when her actions are anything but. Treating the person you're supposed to be in love with, and who clearly cares about you, shitty is not strong.

I know there is an age gap, but for the life of me I couldn't figure out why Harris was even trying to catch her.

Ohhh...so intriguing. Looking forward to see what happens when she turns 18. Will Lucy and Harris finally be together despite facing tough obstacles? Can't wait for the next installment .

10-03-16 Re-read. Love this Rocker series spin-off. I've held off on reading this series until it was complete. There was no way I could have read these individually when they were released months and months apart. So here I go. It's been a long time coming. Looking forward to read Lucy and Harris's love story.

Catching Lucy😁

Catching Lucy is the first novella in the Lucy and Harris series. I’ve just finished reading Tainted Knights so some of the characters are familiar and it’s nice to discover where it all began❣️

This is the story of Lucy & Harris they were best friends sharing a strong bond. They were both growing up in the lime light, being children of rock stars. Their relationship was always innocent and sweet, until Lucy hit puberty and started seeing her best friend as someone much more than a friend. Fearing that her childish crush would make him run for the hills she chose to be the one to cut ties. She began to pull away from Harris with no explanation of her distance. It’s been years since Lucy has seen Harris avoiding him at all costs. She receives an email one day, he's living his dream opened his own nightclub and he wants her to come see it. Lucy soon finds out maybe her heart isn't the only one in danger of being broken. Harris realizes quickly he's missed his best friend and he wants her now in an entirely different way.

So glad we finally got Lucy and Harris story. In The Rocker Series, we were treated to small pieces of the connection these two share. Terri Anne Browning did such a great job developing these two young characters we could not help but want to know where the future would take them.

This is a three part novella series with a full novel to tie it all up. I really loved this first installment, told in alternating POVs between Lucy and Harris. You can feel the angst they are both experiencing as they try to rebuild the friendship they once had yet still trying to fight their growing attraction to each other. Both of them fearing the other doesn’t feel the same way.

Harris is sweet and sexy, when he shows his alpha male possessive side over Lucy it is reminiscent of the way the Demons and OtherWorld fellas act around their women. Harris proves to be just as jealous and fiercely protective as his rock star dad Devlin Cutter. Lucy is sometimes a bit annoying but I cut her some slack because she’s young and a little foolish. She gets a bit judgmental with Harris a few times without getting the facts first. However, she is also a fiery, feisty chick like the rest of the women she has grown up with so I ended up really liking her anyway. Harrison’s devotion to Lucy after years of her ignoring him just warmed my heart. The background characters of their friends Kin and Jace were fantastic I really want to know what’s up with those two hopefully we either get more about them in this series or in a series of their own I would be all over it.

The story flowed nicely; it was a quick enjoyable read. I don’t want to give away too much because I hate spoilers, but I can say that you will definitely enjoy this sweet love story about soul mates and true love with a bit of young lust thrown in. If you are fan of The Rocker Series you will definitely enjoy this. If you haven’t read The Rocker Series I suggest you get it one of my favorites. I don’t think you need to read it though to understand this series it will just give you a better fuller understanding of the tie of these two characters.

Lucy and Harris become really good friends after they meet. Even though they have a 4-year age gap, they have a strong bond. Sharing the similar hardships because of the rock star dads helps them to connect easily. Harris is always there for Lucy and does his best to support his friend. But when Lucy hits puberty she realizes that she feels more than friendship towards Harris and decides to push Harris away. After spending 4 years apart, Lucy receives an invitation for Harris’s new club, which was his dream since childhood. She is still not sure if she should go or not because of her feelings towards Harris but she decides to go.

After reconnecting they start spending a lot of time together. While Lucy is fighting her crush and tries to go back to just friendship, Harris realizes he is in love with Lucy but he thinks he needs to wait until Lucy is 18 years old, which is couple months away. Story shows us their inner struggle with jealous and trying to stay away from each other. It is a sweet love story between best friends. I don’t want to give away too much and ruin the book for you. But I can assure you; you will enjoy it :)

Give me a second.......I have missed all of the rocker family members from Demon's Wing and Otherworld!!

This book focuses on the kids of both bands and it is a nice teaser to what we know, find out and want to come from Lucy and Harris. Watching these two struggle with their feelings for one another was painful, but I enjoyed getting a taste of it from both characters. The best part is always the involvement of the entire crew of family and friends.

Short story about Lucy, Layla and Lana's sister, and Harris. I liked it. If you've read Terri Anne's Rocker series, you'll definitely love this one. Even though I didn't give this book four stars, I guess it's because I was hoping for more drama you know. This one seems to be rushed, almost like, slam-bam-thank you ma'am.

Look forward to read the sequel!!

Angst-Fest

Wow. There's a lot of angst packed into this little novella. Maybe even a bit too much. Still, all in all it was interesting enough to continue to book two.

This was short and sweet. I enjoyed it. I wasn't exactly fond of the age difference but I'm glad that they acknowledged it. It almost seemed weird with how protective her dad was but then I remembered that she was only 17 and I got weirded out all over again.

I'm looking forward to the next book. Like Harris, I'm totally waiting for Lucy to turn 18 too!

I didn't read the rockers series on the demon wings band so I felt like I might have missed a lot of the background. The way it started off was really odd at first for me because I had no back story. Lucy went through a lot in her life all at once it seems. And than she was blessed with best friend and amazing people to support her in all areas. I think because of her past and insecurities she allowed herself to make foolish rash decisions. Even as she got older she was fast to judge and think she knew it all. I can get the insecure part but I was hoping for her to grow a lil more. Harris is an amazing guy who was from the start. They have a great connection because they shared so much in common, lifestyle wise. He really shows how much he cares for Lucy although at times he lets her alpha male overtake him and his decisions. Overall I fall in love with Harris and can't wait to see what happens with the next novella. It was a fast read that keeps you wanting more. * Reviewed for Sweet Spot Sisterhood *

I don't usually rate novellas 5 stars but this is Terri Anne Browning we are talking about. And her Rocker series is a personal favorite of mine.

This spinoff featuring Lucy Thornton and Harris Cutter was wonderful. I have a weakness for friends to lovers kind of romances and with this start, I am convinced their story will just get better and better. They've known each other since they were kids and Lucy's decision to go cold turkey with no contact with her bedtime for 4 years just solidified how much they actually care for one another.

Lucy is as feisty as all the Rocker heroines and Harris is going to have his hands full with not only her, but the the rest of the Demons when they find out they are in love.

I can't wait to read the conclusion...let the fireworks begin. This is a well written novella and it has been my great pleasure watching the author's ability to tell a story continue to expand.

Well worth your time.

I loved this begging of Lucy & Harris novella. It was nice to see to friend again together. And seeing how that turns to more. I have to say I'm curious about Lucy. There where some little snippets that got me worried about her. Looking forward to find out if my fears are true or false in the next book. And Harris... I love how grow up he is. How he didn't fought his growing feeling for Lucy. Well, at least not for long. Though, there was one moment, where I was kinda disappointed in the way he took care of situation. I know he's not into hurting woman in any way, but he could reacted better than this. Hope his weak spot wouldn't cause more problems in the future.

Finally, the story of Lucy and Harris. It is not set in their childhood as I expected. Its about them drifting apart as best friends and this is their chance at reconcilation. Lucy has been in love with Harris for a long time now. Nut does he feel the same?
It was at heart a very basic plotline of two best friend coming together again. But, the author presents it in a beautiful and different way. I was looking forward to their story from a long time. They are just adorable as celebrity kids. It was everything I expected it to be and more.

It took me a few pages to be pulled into the story line of this book, but once I was in, I was in and that is where I stayed until I had finished every single word that was written, I even had my little mini movie playing in my head while I was reading the written words.
The emotions that the characters go through in this book I went through with them, I wouldn't have it any other way.
There are surprises all the way through this book, some you will see coming and others you won't, some are large and some are small, I enjoyed each and everyone of them.
Although this is a short story, it is pack full of everything that us as readers expect from Terri Anne Browning and she always deliveries, I have not read a book by her that I have not enjoyed or wanted to end. She is one of my favourite authors and all the books that I have of hers are in my go to file and I also have most of them on audible. She is one hell of an author and a lovely lady to boot. It doesn't matter what genre she is writing you know I am going to one click.
