“Dirty Deeds” is the third installment in Megan Erickson’s series entitled “Mechanics of Love” and like its predecessors it can be read as a standalone. This third book features Alex, the sexy mechanic, character we previously met in book2, “Dirty Talk”. Like the other two books in the series, this one was a sweet, fun and sexy contemporary romance with two endearing main characters, a bunch of entertaining supportive characters and a great storyline.

Alex moved to Tory, Maryland with her sister and young niece to escape her past, to escape the man who abused her for a long time verbally and emotionally. She works as mechanic for the Paytons, a bunch of caring men who makes her feel wanted and safe. She’s a little scarred and while she’s better now and happy with her life in this small town, she still has some self-esteem issues, believing she will be forever alone, especially now since her sister found Brent, a good, caring man.

“Posh wasn’t rough. He was smooth and slightly untouchable with his pressed suit and shiny shoes and silver watch that probably cost more than her truck.
But he was looking at her like he’d pawn his watch in a second to get into her pants. Well, he wasn’t going to have to pawn anything, because she wanted him just as much as he wanted her.”

Spencer is British, lives in New York and he’s in town to find a good location for Royalty Suits, the company he works for. All he wants is to leave Tory as soon as possible, not because he doesn’t like the small town, but because it reminds him too much of where he comes from. When his car breaks down and he shows up in Alex’s shop he’s taken aback by how attracted he is with the sexy, sassy mechanic who seems so different from any women he’d ever met. The attraction is mutual even if Alex can’t believe she’s so drawn to this tall, dark and handsome posh Brit. They agree to spend one hot, passionate night together, no strings attached since Spencer will be leaving in two days for Ney York not planning on coming anytime soon. But fate has other plans because a week later Spencer has to come back to Tori.

Honestly, this one was pretty predictable, but despite that I really enjoyed it. Like I mentioned, it was a great mix of sweetness and sexiness. Alex, our heroine was my fav heroine of this series. She’s a little damaged, but she was strong, loyal, vibrant, confident heroine and I liked how determined she was to be someone else, someone who’s better than ‘old Alex’. I really liked her bond with her sister and also with her young niece. She’s hard-working and she excels at her job. I have to say I really enjoyed the dynamic between her and the Paytons. They were fun and entertaining together and I liked how they communicated with each other.

Spencer was pretty perfect. Handsome, charming, sweet, caring, protective, thoughtful – yep, he really was a great character to read about. I think what I loved the most about him was how he treated Alex – with respect, care and so much tenderness. Not only he cares about her, but he sees her, the real Alex, making her realize that she’s worth it, that she deserve love and she deserves to be cherished liek any other woman.

I liked how gradually Alex let her walls down, how Spencer pushed her to open up and how the relationship between them progressed. They were sweet and fun together and I enjoyed seeing them falling for each other. They were good for each other in every way. Their chemistry was pretty hot from the beginning and the sexy scenes were either sexy or sweet and I enjoyed them all.

Overall, a fantastic read and great addition to the series!

Summary (from Goodreads):

Alex Dawn is saying no to men. No to bad relationships, disappointments, and smooth-talkers. Focusing on her family and her job at Payton and Sons Automotive keeps her mind occupied and her heart content. She doesn’t really miss a man’s touch, until one night, a man shows up with the body of a god and a voice from her dirtiest dreams.

L.M. Spencer is only in Tory, Maryland, to scope out the town as a possible site for one of his company's hotels. The British businessman didn’t expect his car to break down or to find the hottest little American he’s ever seen holding a tire iron, piercing him with bright blue eyes.

They agree to one hot night, one dirty deed to burn out the chemistry between them. But from their first kiss, Alex can’t stop saying yes to this man. And when Spencer’s company threatens everything she cares about, they must make the choice to stand together or apart.

What I Liked:

I was slightly nervous about this book before starting it - I LOVED Dirty Thoughts, but didn't quite love Dirty Talk as much as I'd hoped. It was still good (a three-star read), but I worried that Dirty Deeds would follow the decline. Thankfully, it didn't really slump, and I enjoyed Spencer and Alex's story (for the most part)!

Spencer is in Tory, Maryland, doing his job - investigating the town to see if Royalty Suites should build a hotel there. He enjoys his job, his position, and his money. But when he meets Alex Dawn in Tory, he begins to think that maybe she was missing in his life. Alex is moving on from past life with her ex-boyfriend, and she knows better than to form attachments. But there is something about L.M. Spencer that she can't shake - if fact, he's all she can see. But he'll be leaving for New York and never coming back, and neither of them are willing to give up their current lives. Or will they?

Spencer is the new character in this series - he wasn't in Dirty Thoughts or Dirty Talk. He's a tall, broad, handsome, posh British guy with a wicked accent that even little Violet is obsessed with. Spencer is very refined and polished... and yet he's as dirty-talking and alpha as they come. Alex totally misjudges him, and she's surprised by the instant and unwavering chemistry between them. But what's more, Spencer is a thoughtful and sweet guy. He apologizes when he's wrong, he wants things to be clear, he likes to talk things out. Such a perfect guy, right?

Alex, on the other hand, doesn't like talking about feelings or anything deep. She doesn't want to get emotionally entangled with Spencer (but she does, her bad). Alex is a difficult girl with a sad past, and it's Spencer who indirectly lifts her to her feet, and she finds her way in this book. I love how tough Alex is, but I also love that she lets her walls down. For Spencer.

I love how Alex and Spencer's relationship unfolds; you'd think it'd be difficult to pull off, with Spencer in town for days at a time. He comes, leaves for New York, comes back, stays for a little longer than the first time. They agree to enjoy time together while he's in Tory, nothing more. But along the way, they both fall for each other.

The chemistry between these two was pretty hot! Somehow, this book didn't seem as hot as Erickson's other books that I've read, and I expected more. But there were several hot scenes in the book (though, unfortunately, nothing memorable). Alex and Spencer are definitely a great pair together, both physically and emotionally.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. It's not my favorite of the series, and there isn't much that makes it stick out to me. It seems a bit lackluster compared to Dirty Thoughts, but maybe it's just that I LOVED Dirty Thoughts so much.

What I Did Not Like:

This is a general thing, but it's SO cliche that a romance novel has to have a breakup as part of the climax. It's so typical, and so annoying. Spencer and Alex's breakup is something I saw coming, as well as the reason. I hate how the guy is always the one that has to grovel and beg and throw himself at her feet. I think Alex could have done something too! I get that it seems like it's usually "the guy's fault". But in this case, Alex was being a bit unfair.

And, like I've been saying, there wasn't a lot of memorable scenes or things going for this book. Sure, Spencer is a hot Brit. But the sex scenes weren't memorable (they were okay, pretty hot, but nothing special). Alex + Spencer weren't particularly special. Sure, I liked them, but their relationship wasn't powerful and beautiful or cute and adorable, or amazing and, well, memorable. The whole plot of this book is soooo cliche (girl with tortured past, guy with rough past - are we back to this?) - right down to the super cliche climax. And ending. Agghhhh.

Don't get me wrong. I loved that Spencer and Alex got a great ending, and I loved seeing them get together. But there was nothing that made this book special. Like, I would never reread this one (whereas I've reread Dirty Thoughts at least a few times already).

Would I Recommend It:

I'd recommend this book if you're a huge Megan Erickson fan (like myself), or if you love this series. If you're new to the series, I recommend Dirty Thoughts, but maybe stop there. Grumpy Cal is literally the BEST male protagonist of this series. Not to say that Brent and Spencer aren't - and not to say that Dirty Talk and Dirty Deeds weren't great. They just weren't... amazing. Or wonderful. Or special. Quit while you're ahead!

Rating:

3 stars. I liked this book, but I doubt I'll ever reread it. It's not one I'd go on the streets recommending, either. I wish I loved it, but it wasn't anything special. My biggest problem was that it's just another cliche romance novel, with a hot British guy to make it slightly different. Unfortunately, that's not quite good enough for me! But that's *me*.

I fell in love with Alex when she first showed up in Cal's office at Payton auto. And now she finally gets her HEA, with an uptight Brit who never saw it coming. I hope you like their story. :)

Favorite Quote: “I was about to take off my dress.”

Spencer nearly swerved off the road. “In the car?”

“You said a bunch of amazing things that made me want to get naked, okay? Quit being nice and stuff and I’ll keep my clothes on.”

What a fun, sexy story. Book three in the Mechanics of Love series (they can all be read as stand alones) I’ve enjoyed the heck out of all of them. For those that have read the first two books, we’ve been waiting to see who Megan Erickson had planned for the tough, female mechanic. Alex moved to Tory, Maryland with her sister and young niece, after getting out of an abusive relationship. Alex never imagined she would be with a man who could verbally and emotionally abuse her – but she ended up with him, and fortunately, with help from her sister, left him for good. She still has emotional scars, but she is happy now. She is a very skilled car mechanic and found a great shop to work in. Owned by the Payton brothers, Cal and Brent have already had their HEA, and now it’s Alex’s turn – and that comes in the form of a British businessman.

Spencer is a location scout for Royalty Suites, a hotel chain. Growing up poor in London, he moves to New York city for college and stays for his career. He likes fancy things and tries to live a life above the life where he grew up. When he has car trouble scouting a location for a hotel in Tory, he drives his car into Alex’s shop. Alex is just leaving for the night, and tells this posh businessman he’ll have to wait for tomorrow. She can’t believe she is attracted to this fancy man. He can’t believe this gorgeous, red lip-stick wearing woman is making him hard. He offers to get her dinner, on a whim she goes, and hello hot and sexy one-night stand.

Spencer leaves and goes back to New York, but a few weeks later he’s back for work. Alex’s emotions are all over the place – she can’t believe how into him she is, but her past abuse issues raise their ugly head.

I loved the entire way this story unfolds. Alex has this tough demeanor she wears – she is able to banter and keep up with Cal and Brent’s constant badgering just fine – but deep down she has a soft heart and her abusive relationship really took a lot out of her. She loves her niece and sister deeply – and when she shows up to Sunday cookouts at her friend’s house, she loves the sense of family. But when romance is put in front of her, she has a hard time accepting it. Her and Spencer are great with the sexual physical relationship – but it takes some time to work out the emotions. Megan Erickson gives them that time. They get to know each other, they try their hand at plain old dating, they break porch rails dry humping like teenagers. It made me laugh and swoon.

Spencer wants Alex, badly. But he also realizes he lives in New York and is not sure how much committment he can actually give her. He is all polished sexiness in the daylight, and a dirty boy in the moonlight. I enjoyed him quite a bit.

I also love the dynamics between the Payton brothers and Alex and all of their friends and signficant others. A very funny, warm bunch.

A well done contemporary romance series.

It's no secret that I love Megan Erickson's writing, and I love her adult romances pretty much equally, but Dirty Deeds... this may be the the first of hers that made me laugh and cry. A new favorite? I think so! She had me at British hero anyway - and said hero is so, so wonderful - but this book came to mean so much more to me. Though I've never been in an abusive relationship, I identified so much with Alex and her struggles. Tough, fierce, and brave she may be, but doubts of self-worth still creep in and she still has moments of insecurities. It was a beautiful thing, watching her reclaim that piece of herself that she feared Robbie had stolen forever. I feel like this book isn't just a love story, but a love letter to every woman out there who doesn't know the worth of their inner beauty. It's true what a character in the book tells Alex - loving yourself is the most important love of all. I have chills just thinking about it.

And who was worthy of Alex's love? It had to be someone special, someone who would treat Alex with respect and care, someone who would fit her so perfectly. She certainly never would have picked Spencer, a posh businessman from London by way of New York. His clean cut look and refined demeanor seems to clash with her jeans and t-shirt and her job as a mechanic. But they're more alike than outside appearances would ever suggest, and I loved watching the way they opened up for each other. Alex was like a ball of fire in his presence, taking what she wanted because he asked and because she deserved it. Spencer would never be a man to snuff that light out; he let it burn and he hoped to only bask in its afterglow. He was so kind to her, a good man, and this made the "dirty deeds" they shared all the hotter. As usual with Megan's books, Spencer and Alex's chemistry was electric. I was swooning during every scene they shared. There are a couple of heartbreaking moments - and I didn't like that their separation phase lasted as long as it did, 6 months - but mostly I was in a state of happy. This is in large part due to the family dynamics as well. Seeing the whole Peyton gang together and in support of Alex made my heart so full. And I love that Spencer was able to find this again for himself and reconnect with his own father.

I'm not sure if Dirty Deeds is the last we'll see of this gang, but I'm ready to resort to begging if we can get a Delilah and Davis story. I have adored this series to pieces and will always consider it a favorite!

#FuckingFeelingsy ...
*sigh* I'm not sure this will make sense, but I wish Alex's story was bigger but yet it was also perfect the way it was ...Megan Erickson has proven time and time again that she can write the heck out of a story and Dirty Deeds was no different.

The story was phenomenally good in its simplicity. At the heart of Alex and Spencer's journey are some serious baggage obstacles they managed to hurdle without tearing the reader up from the inside out. That takes some serious talent kids. Don't get me wrong, I had my tissue moments, but they didn't hurt ... and they could have, but they didn't and it was beautiful :)

I hope we haven't seen the last of these guys ....

Oh, you guys.

YOU GUYS.

I was a tiny bit skeptical that Megan Erickson was going to be able to make this sexy mechanic thing live up to the near perfection that was Brent Payton. But this—this story—is so, so good. I mean there I was, not even halfway through the book, sniffling and trying to keep my tears out of the macaroni and cheese I was making for my kids, because all my feelings were running down my face. It was unexpectedly emotional, and just…so good!

Alex Dawn has built a nearly impenetrable fence around her heart. She's a little bit broken and hell bent on keeping anyone from shattering the pieces of her heart she's managed to salvage from her past. She's settled into her life as a mechanic with the Payton family business and is perfectly content to spend her evenings alone—factoring in a one night stand here and there.

When L.M. Spencer rolls in to the shop needing a car repair, he immediately raises Alex's hackles. When her offer of a ride home turns into dinner—and dinner turns into more—Alex finds herself working hard to keep her walls in place, while Spencer wants nothing more than to obliterate them completely. He's enchanted by Alex, drawn to her light and hooked by her fierce attitude and sassy mouth.

The relationship these two form is beautiful. It's not without bumps in the road (some pretty big ones), but at its core it's tender and healing, and sometimes, unbearably sweet. Spencer regards Alex as a precious thing and Alex comes completely alive with him. It's sexy (GOD. SO. SEXY.) and sweet and just a little bit heartbreaking. I loved both of these beautiful people—Alex for being so honest and brave, Spencer for being so tender and kind. Nice guys aren't boring, and they don't have to be alpha in order to be sexy. Spencer is irrefutable proof of that.

This book works as a standalone (if you're new to the series), but they're all so good, and half of what makes it so perfect for me are the updates we get on the Payton brothers. They're like family by now, and their relationships with each other (and with the women they love) are a huge part of the charm of these books. It's safe to say that this book only fueled my love for Brent (who remains my favorite Payton brother because, good God, that man is fabulous). I love the way the Paytons brought Alex into their fold—the family moments are heartwarming and sweet. The perfect secondary storyline filled with laughter and sentiment that made my heart all ooey gooey.

My words are doing nothing to capture how much I loved this book. My heart ached for Alex, that dull, achy, throbby feeling when things get so emotional it becomes nearly impossible to keep yourself in check. It was all so beautifully written, the love story so tender and redemptive. It felt good to read it. I smiled so hard and my heart filled to bursting. Sexy, funny and emotional—it's like the Megan Erickson bankable trifecta—Dirty Deeds does not disappoint! ~ Shelly, 5 stars

Dear God, I'm starting to wonder if it's impossible for Megan Erickson to write a bad book. I've yet to read one from her that hasn't sung to my heart, pulsed between my legs, and made my face practically crack from smiling so hard. Dirty Deeds, the latest in the Mechanics of Love series, is another wonderful example of why this author is a go-to for me. Whether I'm feeling down, in need a pick-me-up, or just want to have a good time, I know I can count on her to provide it.

Alex Dawn has a bad, bad history with men. So much so, she's swearing off them for anything more than one night of passion. Which is what she expects when L.M. Spencer rolls his luxury car into her place of business late one evening.

Only, after bickering and bantering, and a memorable meal, they end up finding their connection goes beyond one night. Especially when he returns to Tory for work. And especially when that work could threaten everything that means something to Alex.

Oh, this book is delightful. Emotional in a way I didn't expect (but should have), sexy in a way that's inexplicable (but completely wonderful) and funny in a way that ensured I couldn't put it down (not that I wanted to).

Alex is…broken. And it's heartbreaking. Her doubts, her concerns, are valid, given her past, and yet, I wanted so desperately for her to let Spencer in, to let him heal her. That she tried to avoid a connection with him was both telling and frustrating, and enough to make me want to find her ex and give him a little what-for myself. But there again, she's also so tough. She has some fire in her, and that made me love her as much as I ached for her.

Spencer is…charm personified. He's not growly, gruff, surly or otherwise closed off like Cal. He's not ridiculous with hidden, dirty talkin’ depths like Brent. He's just so good. So kind and caring. And it's on the surface—I felt like Spencer comes at Alex with no real deceit (well...aside from his roots, maybeeee). He is an open and honest person when he's not having a bad day, and he’s drawn to her sass and fire, because that's what he needs to balance his more gentle, but workaholic, nurture.

This family (because, yes, they are a family, whether related by blood or not) is…perfection. I adore this series, and all of these people. Especially Brent. And Cal. And Max (we need more Max, I think. I miss him). Also, Jack. And Megan Erickson. Yeah, yeah, I know she's not a character, but she's the reason they all exist, and she keeps giving me amazing books to read, so it's all good. Just like this book. ~ Beth, 5 stars

~~~
I couldn’t wait for this book! I was so excited to get Alex’s happy and Ms. Erickson did not disappoint! Only Alex could fall for a posh British boy!
Dirty Deeds is the third installment in the Mechanics of Love Series and I loved it! I think it was the dirtiest by far!
“I want you to lay on your back in this bed. I want to take off your pants. I want to suck your cock until you’re…begging. And then I want to climb on top and ride you.”
We met Alex in the first two books, getting more of her story in the second book, Dirty Talk. She had a ridiculously abusive ex-boyfriend and finding it hard to live again, yet alone love. But one night with a sexy British dude started her on a much needed journey.
“It’s been only one night, but that one night had thoroughly messed with her head.”
Spencer was more similar to Alex than he wanted to admit; hiding who he really was and where he was from. Together, the two were able to help each other live again.
I loved this story! To watch such a strong woman embrace and love herself again, all from the help of a man who wasn’t quite sure who he was himself, was amazing. They couldn’t have been more perfect for each other and their chemistry was electric! I adored how much we got to see of all the other Paytons and their significant others and certainly hope there is a story for Delilah and Davis coming soon! ~ Tiffany, 5 stars
In this third story in the Mechanics of Love series, Alex has finally found a place where she feels safe. With her sister Ivy and niece Violet, they’ve carved a home for themselves in Tory, and she’s got a job she loves as a mechanic with Payton and Sons. Here she can be herself, not a timid woman on the run. If this means an overindulgence in bright lipsticks and clothes to knock a man’s socks off (when not in her overalls), so be it. Meeting Spencer, a sexy Brit who shows up at the garage one evening is exactly what Alex needs to get back on the lust merry-go-round. After all, it’s just one night of ‘hot and heavy’ and then he’ll be on his way and out of her life, giving her the self confidence boost in the sack she sorely needs. But Spencer doesn’t stay gone, and when he’s back in town again following up with his company’s plans to find a good spot for their latest hotel, they settle into a steamy affair. Trouble is, he’s not been on the up and up with her about everything his company is planning. Now that she’s finally found her home, complete with a job she loves and a supportive family, is she going to be forced to choose between them and a man who could be her future?
What a fun and sexy story! Having been introduced to Alex in the first story in the series (Dirty Thoughts) I was excited to see who she would end up with, and this match works out perfectly! From their first meeting, the sparks are flying between them and both Spencer and Alex are clear that it’s one night to scratch the itch they’ve got for each other, and easy to leave it at that. Neither expects Spencer to end up back in town again, and when he does, they can’t keep their hands off each other. Spencer comes across as a mostly conservative Brit, definitely well off, and with a bit of a chip on his shoulder. He’s the opposite of Alex in temperament and background – well, at least he’s tried to overcome his working class upbringing. He’s remade himself into a wealthy man of business. But he’s got a gentle and fun side too, and when they’re not having sex, the things they share deepen their feelings for each other pretty quickly. Alex is finally feeling like she’s regaining her sense of self, with her semi-adopted Payton family, a job she loves, and a safe place for her and her sister. Having been in an emotionally abusive relationship, and on the run, Tory is now her home. And she’s going to protect that home come hell or high water. It was great to see her change from the first time we were introduced to her as a character in Dirty Thoughts to the woman she is now. This doesn’t mean that she’s not without her faults, or that she doesn’t hide behind a bold face when necessary, but she’s definitely coming into her own. I really like how the author is able to take characters and make them multidimensional, with layers revealed as the story is told. And as always, I’m delighted when a story is told from both points of view so we get the male and female perspective on the romance.
The Payton family plays an important role (particularly since Alex’s sister Ivy is with Brent Payton, a relationship that was delightfully told in book 2 of the series, Dirty Talk). The camaraderie of the family and their acceptance and protection of Alex and Ivy make for lots of fun scenes and serious ones too. Caring friends and the small town atmosphere give the story a heartwarming touch. Combine that with a super sexy romance (Alex and Spencer have no qualms about showing each other who’s boss in the bedroom!) with strong and personable main characters, and you get a wonderful story that is definitely in my top reads of 2015! 5 stars. P.S. Loved the nicknames they had for each other!
“Sprite,” he said in that deep, accented voice.
“What?” she whispered.
He didn’t say anything for a minute, and his hands on her wrists loosened, but he didn’t let go. “Why are you so angry?”
Oh, she couldn’t even count all the ways. “For starters. You’re here. When I never thought you would be again.”
Another long pause. “Is that what this is about? You’re mad I came back? And that you thought I’d…what? Be embarrassed by you?” Alex swallowed and stared at the wall in front of her. Spencer kept talking. “Don’t assume you know everything about me. I certainly wasn’t slumming it when we spent the evening together.”
His thumbs moved in a circular pattern on the inside of her wrists and she stifled a groan.
He must have heard it, because he pressed in closer, and now his lips were at her ear, his voice low. “I haven’t been able to stop thinking about that night. You above me, your hair and those lips and that body….” His voice trailed off.
She couldn’t stop herself from asking. “My lips?”
He let go of a wrist and brought his hand up to her face, tilting it to the side. Then he brushed a thumb over her mouth. “These red lips. With your hair and your eyes. Fucking gorgeous.”
Megan Erickson knows how to write contemporary romance! The Mechanics of Love series is the first I’ve read by her, and it won’t be the last. I’ve enjoyed each one of the books in the series immensely – Dirty Talk is still my favorite, but Dirty Deeds, the third and latest book, is one that definitely lived up to my expectations. It’s a book full of heart and humor, with touching characters that can’t help but endear themselves to your heart.
I’d been so excited about Alex’s story since Dirty Talk – as a female mechanic who’s sworn off men, she’s a memorable character. Her last relationship almost ruined her family, so when she and her sister and niece got away from her abusive ex, she was determined not to let any man in. She gives off this tough, sassy, badass persona, but deep down, she’s also a woman who gives her whole heart to those she loves. She may have given her heart to someone who abused it in the past, but ever since she’s met the Paytons, she’s opened up once again. But the one who really breaks down her walls is a one-night-stand she never expects to see again.
Spencer’s eyes were wild as he took her in. “I’m the luckiest man in the world to be here right now.”
Her heart ached, because they would be only this, a screw in a bed, a fuck against a wall. Quick, dirty deeds that would never have a future. Oh well, she’d make the most of it.
Though the past two books in the series have been about some HOT mechanics, I have to say that this one British businessman was definitely able to keep up with the previous heroes. Spencer was only supposed to be Tory for a little while for his job, so his one night – the hottest night of his life – with Alex was only supposed to be just that. But when his job forces him to go back to Tory and see Alex again and again, Spencer can’t help wanting her more and more… except that his stay in Tory is once again only temporary.
“…you love to love, Alex. And you love to be loved. And you deserve it. You deserve it all.”
I adored Alex and Spencer together. The two of them are the kind of characters who have walls around their hearts, and I loved seeing the two of them break down their walls and let in love. They make such a great couple, and the chemistry between this is seriously hot. If you’re a fan of the series, you definitely don’t want to miss Dirty Deeds.
I’m desperately hoping there will be more in this series, especially a book about Davis or Delilah (or the both of them together). I seriously can’t get enough of all of these characters! And the Paytons, I just love them all so much, especially Brent. All of their interactions with each other leave me with a smile on my face. If you love your romances with the perfect balance of humor and sweet, touching moments, then you definitely need to get your hands on this series!
Are you a fan of contemporary romance? Is Megan Erickson on your radar? She should be. I'm finding that I'm become a bigger fan with each and every book that I read of hers. This series revolves around a small town and a certain auto shop. The shop is run by The Payton's and let's just say I wish these guys were the local mechanics in my neighborhood.
While I enjoyed all three of these stories, the final book, Dirty Deeds, has to be my favorite. Erickson's story-telling and writing has only gotten better with each story and it really shows in book 3. Each book has a story that you'll find yourself turning pages just to learn more
The stories here are a balance of serious issues with some fun, light characters who really jump off the page. While I love all the guys, Brent is probably my favorite because he's the fun loving protective guy and I just loved his characters so much... that's not to say I didn't enjoy Cal or Spencer ... I mean Spencer *sigh*. But Brent is the kind of guy that I love, the joker who no one takes seriously but they absolutely should.
Erickson's ladies are just as captivating as the guys. They are strong and smart and ready to fight for the things they want... that said, I have to admit that I have mad love for Alex. I loved getting to know her in book 2 but she really shines in her story. I love her inner strength and the way she handles herself and ultimately her confidence in who she is and not apologizing for it.
If you're looking for a sexy contemporary romance with stories that are both emotional yet fun and you're going to want to put this series on your To Read list.
OMG! MEGANPLEASELETMEHAVEYOURBOOKBOYSBABIES. Can I leave my review for Dirty Deeds like this? No? Too weird? Well, by now you should all probably know that Megan Erickson is my FAVORITE romance author and her books and the boys (ESPECIALLY THE BOYS) turn me into a complete swooning weirdo. I swear, her romances make me so light-headed and giddy with happiness!
I THINK I look like this when reading her books ...
But really I just look like this.
Having loved the first two books, I was really looking forward to reading Dirty Deeds. We met this completely shattered character, Alex in the previous novel, Dirty Talk. My heart broke for her and I wanted her to be happy more than anything. It's wasn't at all pretty and when I went into Dirty Deeds, I was a teensy bit worried that this would be one of those cases where the heroine is magically cured by love, but I just need to stop doubting Megan Erickson because all her books have had characters that were fiercely feminist and that defeated their obstacles on their own. In Dirty Deeds, we see Alex really grow as a protagonist. I was so damn proud of the girl for being able to overcome her fears and turning into this bold, beautiful and brilliant woman, that you just want to root for.
Can also just say how awesome I think it is that despite being a mechanic, Alex was not at all a tom-boy (as you would have expected)? She was in touch with her femininity and complete embraced it with her cute dresses and bold red lipstick. Honestly, Alex was absolutely empowering as a character and I adore Megan Erickson for writing this fiesty, sassy and sexually confident woman. Basically, I WANT to be Alex (and not just because of the Hot Brit she snags!).
Speaking of Hot Brits ... HOLY WOWZAH (See first sentence for reference)!! Spencer was just so perfect for Alex! I loved the man from very early on. He was one of those driven men who rose up from nothing and chased after their dreams. He was this tough, rugged businessman, but what made him appealing beyond words as a character was his gentleness towards Alex. He was flawed and made some dumb, but honest mistakes in the book, but every time he redeemed himself spectacularly.
Together Alex and Spencer were smoking! I actually think Dirty Deeds' title is very apt because this was probably the sexiest book in the series! Besides the undeniable chemistry they shared, I loved how they were a couple that shared so much about themselves with each other and grew in the process. They were supportive, fiercely loyal and made the romantic in me sigh with happiness in the process. Megan Erickson's books are all about love and she does it so well. I also loved being back together with the rest of the cast (ESPECIALLY CAL!). They are truly an amazing family and I love how strongly they care about each other.
Yet again, Megan Erickson did not disappoint with this final installment (I still DEMAND a Delilah and Davis novel, Megan. MAKE IT HAPPEN!). If you're a lover of all things romance, I can't recommend this series and anything this author writes enough. The book is currently $1.99 on e-readers so you really have no excuse! All of her books have been such an emotional ride and Dirty Deeds was certainly no different.
Megan Erickson is one of the only authors who makes me want to throw all my money at her books. I don't even care if I'm broke.
I want to thank Avon for providing me with a copy of this book to read and give an honest review. Receiving this book for free has in no way altered my opinion or review.
I am a huge fan of Megan Erickson. I will read anything she writes. I've enjoyed each and every book she's put out so far. I especially have been in love with this particular series. There's just something so raw and intense about it that draws me right in. So given the chance to read this book for a blog tour, I jumped at it. And I was in now way disappointed. As a matter of fact, this turned out to be my favorite in the series so far.
We met Alex in the second book of the Mechanics of Love series. She was introduced as a tough as nails mechanic who would go to any length to protect herself and her family. So it's no shocker that she continues to be that same sassy, no bones girl we met in Dirty Thoughts. Of course Alex has her past that haunts her. A past that causes her to be a bit distrusting of people, especially men. She lets very few people get close to her.
Enter Spencer. He's an English business man who happens to need a mechanic while traveling for his job. What he doesn't expect when walking into Payton and Sons is to find a woman who knows just how to handle a car, and herself He's instantly drawn to her. But Spencer has a past he hies as much as Alex. One where he was a different person. One he's been trying to make sure stays buried as he pushes his way up the corporate ladder. And, like Alex, Spencer isn't looking for anything complicated, so given the chance to be casual with Alex, he takes it.
The two share one hot night together, agreeing to be done with just that. But neither can seem to get the other off their mind. Alex has quit men and doesn't want the feelings attached to what they can bring out in her, but she can't seem to shake Spencer from her blood. And Spencer wants his job, but Alex has gotten under his skin. There's no denying the chemistry between these two. And while I'm not usually a fan of instal-love, that's not really what you get here. You get a slow burn on the feelings end, but a hot run on attraction side!
Of course there's some stuff that might just tear them apart. Spencer hasn't been totally honest with Alex about what his company intends to do in Tory, MD. He lets his job blind him to the fact that Alex is just what he needs.
I love the cast of supporting characters in these books. They form an incredible family who support each other and watch out for each other.
The best part of watching this cast of characters and their stories lines is seeing how much Erickson has grown as a writer. I really enjoyed her Bowler series, so when she said spin-off I said YES! And with each book she wrote, her story telling grew stronger and stronger. There is no doubt I will keep coming back to Megan's stories in the future.
If you're a fan of contemporary romance with a bit of angst topped off with a sexy female mechanics and a swoon worthy Brit, you'll not be disappointed in this book. It can certainly be read as a stand alone, since the cast of characters is explained well enough. But that shouldn't stop you from wanting to go and see what the other couples have to offer!
I really do love this series and was delighted Dirty Deeds was Alex's story, she really does deserve to find love and happiness.
We already know a lot about Alex's background and the disastrous relationship that lead her to Payton and Sons in the first place. Alex's history of verbal abuse has taken her self-esteem and belief in herself to dangerously low levels, no longer trusting her own judgement she doesn't believe she is destined to find a loving, caring relationship. Devaluing herself in the process and causing further damage to her already fragile heart. Alex is unfortunately, a very relatable character who depicts just how destructive words can be.
I love the use of fate/destiny within this story, the idea that everything happens for a reason and the direction you take is a direct result of the universe leading you to where you should be.
Spencer has had his own disastrous relationship that have shaped him into the man he has become. Not only the romantic kind but also relationships linked to his family and the formative years he has discarded in England.
On the surface it would appear Alex and Spencer are very different people, that is until their circumstances and upbringing are reveled showing just how much in common they have. not only that but their personal outlooks are very similar. Aside from the sparks that fly from their initial meeting, it is obvious that Alex and Spencer could be great together if only they could move past the self-imposed barriers they have.
Unfortunately, the happily ever after is not so easy to achieve, with many a battle to overcome on the journey. However, both characters development is stunning to witness as the challenges they face are hurdled. It was especially gratifying to watch Alex overcome her own personal demon, literal and metaphorical.
As Megan's choice of song of the month states - what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. together Alex and Spencer are proof those words are true ♥
So many of my friends and I love Megan Erickson's Mechanics of Love series to pieces!  Today I have an excerpt, my review, and a blog tour-wide giveaway for Megan's latest entry in the series, Dirty Deeds.
Heads up, this one comes out next Tuesday!!
Excerpt
Can I tell you a secret?  Okay, it won't be such a secret when all 7 of my readers know this but... When I was a little girl, I wanted to work at a gas station.  There was a gas station on the corner where I lived where a guy came out and filled your gas tank, washed your windows, and took your payment.  This was right before they came up with two lanes, full service and self service (even that's gone!)  Anyways, I wanted to be that person who came out to the car and took your payment and washed your windows.  I thought it would be so cool to be a girl doing a boy's job, surrounded by cars all day.
I think that's why I looked forward to this book in the series as much as I did.  In another life, I am Alex Dawn.  I work on cars and play with the boys all day long.  I banter with the best of them and wear the reddest lipstick just because I can.  But unlike me, Alex in her past let the wrong guy in and he hurt her in so many ways that it affected not only her psyche and soul, it hurt the family she loved dearly.
It's not a spoiler to the series to tell you that Alex and her little sister, Ivy, moved to Tory, Maryland to get away from Alex's abusive boyfriend and to start their lives over.  Last book, Dirty Talk, is where Ivy got her HEA.  Now it's about time for Alex to heal and get her HEA.
I was so taken in by Spencer as Alex's romantic interest.  Not because he's British, although I love a good accent, but because he was so opposite of what Alex typically went for in a guy in the past.  You couldn't get more opposite than Spencer.  He's not exactly the usual alpha-hottie I love.  He's all business and when he's not business, he's pretty much fumbling social nuances.  He's very straight forward and honest.
And Alex has no clue what to do with that....
I'm a fan of Megan Erickson because of the stories she writes into her romances.  They aren't just "let's get these two lovebirds together" tales.  In the case of Dirty Deeds, Alex has to overcome anxieties and fears to get to a place where she can be happy.  Toss in the uncertainty of a new relationship and EEEEK!  Yeah, I loved this story...
I'm trying to decide which book was hotter on the romance scale: this book or the one right before it, Dirty Talk.  For me personally, it's a draw.  There are entirely two different relationship dynamics happening between the books that it's making it hard for me to decide.
All I know is that THIS book had the romantic story, heat, and "awwww" factor at the end that put a smile on my face when I finish the book.
Dirty Deeds is the third book in the Mechanics of Love series, but can totally be read as a standalone. As a fan of Megan Erickson’s books, I am so sad that this series has come to an end. Dirty Deeds has given me everything that I have been looking for in a great contemporary romance and more.
From the moment Alex’s character was introduced, I was dying to know more about her. I wanted to know why she hated relationships and stopped believing in love. So, when Spencer enters the picture, right away, I knew I was on to something good. Spencer challenged Alex and woke up a part of her that has been asleep for quiet some time. What was supposed to be one night of fun between these two, was quickly turning into something more. Now, it all will be up to Alex. Is she ready to take the leap and fall in love? Or will Spencer be just like every man in Alex’s life and find a way to disappoint her?
Dirty Deeds was a fabulous read from start to finish. The story is captivating and told from dual points of view. I absolutely adored Alex and Spencer. The two of them had amazing chemistry and I loved watching their relationship build. The side characters were amazing as always. I love spending time with my old friends from the previous stories. I really loved the roll that the Payton family played in this story. I loved how they took Alex in and gave her the family that she always needed. They were fiercely protective over her and just accepted her for who she was.
Dirty Deeds was a quick and enjoyable read for me. It was well written and entertaining. Not only did this book make me laugh, but it also made me swoon and fall in love. Megan Erickson has once again given me an amazing read with fun characters and a completely heartwarming story-line. There is so much to love about this book, but don’t just take my word for it. Grab this book and see just how awesome this book truly is. I hope that you will read this book and fall in love with these characters as much as I have!
3.5/5 stars
After meeting Alex in Dirty Talk, I couldn't wait to read her book! I loved her tough as nails attitude and how she owned who she was. She didn't try and change for anyone and I really admired her for that. As tough as Alex is, she isn't invincible. She has been deeply hurt in the past and has known emotional pain that she still carries around with her to this day. My heart ached for Alex because she didn't deserve what she had to endure, even though it has made her stronger because of it. She has sworn off men altogether, but seeing her sister settling down and happy, she secretly longs for that happiness of her own.
After an extremely hot night with Spencer, Alex's world is knocked off its axis, as for the first time someone is willing to put her needs and desires first and actually asks what she wants. However, the sexy Brit is only in Tory on business and will be on his way again.
I really enjoyed Spencer and Alex together. They had some really sexy times and I loved seeing them open up to one another. However, she's afraid to really let herself fall for him because she knows their time together isn't permanent. The conflict in this one is pretty predictable, but the resolution was worth it. I really loved how everything wrapped up and turned out for these crazy kids.
My favorite part of this one was being back with the Payton men and the people they hold dear. Cal, Brent, Jack, Jenna, Ivy, Violet, Asher all make appearances, as well as some of their friends, and the tight knit group really just made my heart happy. Alex is surrounded by love and family and I loved how protective they were of her.
I did find myself having some trouble staying engaged and paying attention in this one though. I liked Alex and Spencer, but I wasn't pulled in like I was with grumpy Cal and Jenna, or with Brent, Ivy, and Violet. This was still an enjoyable read though and I am definitely not ready to say goodbye to these characters!
I've been waiting for Alex's book since learning more about her during Dirty Talk. I loved her character. She was sassy and spunky and different from a majority of the women you read about in romance books. I loved that she's a mechanic. There aren't nearly enough books out there with blue collar characters, which is a shame because I love reading about them. I adored her relationship with the Paytons and, with her bad relationship in the past, I couldn't wait to see her get her chance at a happily ever after.
The pairing of Alex with Spencer was great. Despite the fact that part of the reason Spencer was in town was to possibly try to buy the Paytons' land and tear the shop down to build a hotel, I couldn't help but like the guy. He had a good heart. He had his own challenges with relationships in the past. The chemistry between Alex and Spencer was hot. I liked how he began knocking down her walls. Things were pretty intense between them, considering it was supposed to be no strings attached fun. Of course, this is a problem because their time together has an expiration date. What's a girl to do?
Dirty Deeds was a great, quick read. Not only was Alex and Spencer's story excellent, but you know I loved seeing the other Paytons again. These characters are just wonderful. It's impossible NOT to fall for them. I got some pretty nice feels from this one and ended it with a big ol' grin on my face.
I loved Megan's Mechanics of Love series. Each of the characters have a special place in my heart and, as sad as I am to see it end, I know they're there for a reread anytime I want. And I just can't wait to see what she gives us next!
Why is it that every time I read a new Megan Erickson Mechanics of Love Romance, I always find myself saying "Now THIS one is my favorite!" But in all reality...DIRTY DEEDS is definitely my favorite of the three (so far), and that is saying so much because they are ALL so good!
I loved Alex as a character from the beginning, but DIRTY TALK solidified my love and DIRTY DEEDS just made it into a full-out Girl Crush...she is funny, sweet, spunky and very unsure of herself, but she sure loves with all her heart!
The chemistry literally caused a combustion of epic proportions...it was THAT HOT! Megan knows how to keep the chemistry on low sizzle until it needs to be turned to high, and with Alex and Spencer, the low sizzle was already hot! And I have to admit that ALL of my celebrity boyfriends are British, so Spencer just DID IT for me...in all the best ways!
Yes, Alex and Spencer were crazy smoking hot when they were ripping clothes off...well, all over the place...but the humor that Megan draws out and the emotion packed into DIRTY DEEDS was just the perfect amount to make my heart squeeze in my chest, hoping (HOPING) that all would end ok for these two semi-broken people...oh I was cheering!
I am so happy that I discovered Megan Erickson through her BOWLER UNIVERSITY Series, and I am even more happy that she ended up writing the Payton Brothers romances....Never can get enough of Megan Erickson's writing...So worth the time, money and swoon-worthy endings!
I will forever read Megan's words, so of course I was dying to read this.
I liked Alex in the last book, but I think I might have a girl crush on her. She's strong and snarky and she goes after what she wants. The best part about her is that at first she doesn't believe all of those things about herself, but realizes it and owns it like a mother fucker.
Spencer? Well, Megan had me at British. I'm a sucker for an accent and I really enjoyed people making fun of the words he said {especially Violet} and all of the proper Britishisms. I squealed when I saw "boot" referenced properly. I loved his uncertainty and backstory and decisions in the end.
Their story was a bit angsty, but I know Megan always gives me what I want. And she definitely delivered. I love these characters and this family and if she wrote them forever, I would read them. But I still need Delilah's story.
If you're looking for fun and flirty and laugh out loud books, read Megan's books immediately.
I was so excited to learn Alex was getting her own book! She's a great blend of beauty, brains and ballsyness,(<--yep, ballsyness is a real word.) and her story does not disappoint. It's a great addition to the series.
Dirty Deeds is smexy, romantic and lots of fun! So is Spencer, in case you're wondering. The saucy Brit is all business but still manages to bring out the softer side of Alex, proving to her she's worth every bit of love she deserves. From her family, from her friends, and especially from him.
The cast of supporting characters was a blast too, then again, it's always a good time when a Peyton is around. I'm pretty sure this is the final book in the series, and as always, I'm sad to see these characters go, but it's been a fun ride!
Read it.
After the first two books followed the Payton brothers as they found their way to love and happiness, book three in the Mechanics of Love series turns its attention to Alex Dawn, sister to Ivy from book two, Dirty Talk , and an employee at Payton and Sons Automotive. If you haven’t yet picked up this series, don’t fret, I do believe Dirty Deeds can be read as a stand-a-lone. Although honestly, if you aren’t reading this author and series, you should be.
Alex, along with her sister Ivy and niece Violet, moved to Tory, Maryland after escaping a mentally abusive relationship. Now it’s a year later and she’s found a good job as a mechanic, a loving protective family in the Paytons and is learning to deal with the fact that her sister and niece are settling down in their own happily ever after. She’s content with her life. She’s even attending therapy thanks to an intervention by family and friends. Men and relationships aren’t on her radar and she only satisfies the occasional sexual urge by indulging in a one night stand. She lost herself in a bad relationship once and isn’t about to allow that to happen again.
Spencer, or rather L.M. Spencer, is in Tory to scout locations for Royalty Suites. He’s in a foul mood when his Mercedes, rattling and clanking, finally rolls into Payton and Sons Automotive. Alex, with her red lipstick, fierce demeanor and gorgeous body encased in tank top and jeans, is not who he is expecting to greet him. He’s a bit of a jerk off at their first meeting; condescending, rude and cranky. Alex sees something in him though, because after a dinner meant as an apology, she follows the sexy Brit back to his room. She’s fully aware that he’ll be leaving the next morning, and she’s more than okay with that. After all, neither want anything more. But she’s in for a shock when Spencer shows up back in town several weeks later. Shocked, and a little distressed to realize she can’t stop thinking about him.
I’ve enjoyed this series. Cal’s growly, grumpy demeanor that hides a heart of gold and joking, good time, misunderstood Brent. Ashe and his budding relationship, Jack’s gravelly voice as he protects and offers affection, Violet’s innocent sweetness and girl nights out with Ivy, Jenna and Delilah. When it was mentioned that Alex’s love interest would be a new character I did wonder what kind of man would finally break through her walls and help her learn to love again. Then Spencer was introduced and I was a bit… unsure. I mean he comes across as such an uppity jerk at first. He’s not charming and he’s not warm. He and Alex have amazing chemistry and their first sex scene is smokin’, but other than that I couldn’t see how she would fall for him.
Then…
Well, then I realized he’s just as unsure about what he wants and who he is as Alex. All of his fumbling and curtness actually began to be somewhat sweet and more than a little endearing. And then she goes and tells him her history and he says this:
“I’m sitting here, soaking wet, with the hottest girl I’ve ever met on my lap, and I’m telling you that you have all the power here. All of it. You might have felt powerless with him, but he didn’t take your power from you. It’s not mine to give back, either, because you’ve had it all along. It’s yours.”
And I was gone for Leslie Michael Spencer.
Alex and Spencer together is a beautiful thing. And sexy, so very, very sexy. I was frustrated with their miscommunication at times, and there was a lot of it, but understood that two such different people needed these moments in order to better understand each other and themselves. Alex is strong, yet vulnerable in her fear of losing her true self to another man. She has a soft side she rarely shows those other than her close loved ones. Spencer hides who he really is and has never known real happiness until Alex. But he doesn’t realize it until it’s almost too late. While I may have started out unsure if this couple would work, I finished with a smile on my face and a feeling of happiness.
I think this is supposed to be the final book in this series, but I’m hoping Ms. Erickson decides to give Delilah and a certain next door neighbor their own HEA. Final Grade- B
Favorite Quote:
“So presumptuous,” Spencer huffed.
She nuzzled closer to his side. “Oh my, that was a big word.”
“Yeah? Do you like that? I have more where that came from.”
“Do tell.”
“Obfuscate. Mendacious.”
She moaned. “That’s hot.”
“Ostentatious. Peccadillo.”
“Oh please, take me now,” she wailed.
ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date December 8, 2015
Alex Dawn is saying no to men. No to bad relationships, disappointments, and smooth-talkers. Focusing on her family and her job at Payton and Sons Automotive keeps her mind occupied and her heart content. She doesn’t really miss a man’s touch, until one night, a man shows up with the body of a god and a voice from her dirtiest dreams.
L.M. Spencer is only in Tory, Maryland, to scope out the town as a possible site for one of his company's hotels. The British businessman didn’t expect his car to break down or to find the hottest little American he’s ever seen holding a tire iron, piercing him with bright blue eyes.
They agree to one hot night, one dirty deed to burn out the chemistry between them. But from their first kiss, Alex can’t stop saying yes to this man. And when Spencer’s company threatens everything she cares about, they must make the choice to stand together or apart.
•••••••••
DIRTY DEEDS is the third installment in Megan Erickson’s contemporary, adult MECHANICS OF LOVE erotic romance series focusing on the men and women of Payton and Sons Automotive-a spin off from Megan’s ‘Bowler University’ series. This is mechanic Alex Dawn, and hotel acquisitions agent L.M. Spencer’s storyline. Alex was first introduced to the reader in Dirty Talk (Book 2)-she is Ivy’s sister and the reason she, Ivy and Violet are now calling Tory, Maryland home.
Told from alternating third person perspectives (Alex and Spencer) DIRTY DEEDS follows Alex as she slowly begins to open her heart to the possibility of love and a happily ever after. Alex’s last relationship found our heroine on the run from an emotionally abusive ex, and in order to protect the people that she loves, Alex and her sister Ivy moved to Tory, Maryland to start a new life and a new future. One year later, Alex finds herself falling for British ex-pat L.M. Spencer-a man who is in town only for a few days. What ensues is a one night stand that turns into something more when Spencer returns to Tory in the hopes of securing some land for his company’s hotels.
The relationship between Alex and Spencer is one of immediate attraction; their sexual chemistry is explosive and hot but Alex has been hurt in the past and is unable to let go of the emotional damage caused by her controlling ex. Unwilling to commit to a future, Alex is willing to say goodbye rather than face an uncertain future or another possible controlling man. A lie of omission by Spencer finds Alex back in the same dark and broken place, and she isn’t willing to lose her heart to another man. A good portion of Alex’s backstory was revealed in the previous installment wherein the Dawn family was on the run, trying to stay one step ahead of Alex’s past. The $ex scenes are intense, erotic and often spontaneous-anywhere, anytime.
Most of the previous storyline characters play secondary and supporting roles including Alex’s sister Ivy and her boyfriend Brent Payton, as well as Cal Payton and Jenna, and Jenna’s best friend Delilah. The Payton patriarch Jack makes a cameo appearance, along with Payton half-brother Asher. Wounded fire-fighter Davis is absent but by way of mention is brought into the storyline through Delilah-who may or may not have feelings for the now wheel-chair bound hero. I am looking forward to Delilah and Davis’s story.
DIRTY DEEDS focuses on family and friendships; romance and love; moving forward and letting go. Alex and Spencer must face their pasts before they are able to move towards a future-apart or together. The small town familiarity of Tory, Maryland brings with it the love and support not otherwise found in big city living. The premise is entertaining and heartwarming; the characters are loving, animated and protective; the happily ever after takes time to come to fruition but is worth the wait-in the end.
Dirty Deeds is the third book in the very talented Megan Erickson’s Mechanics of Love series. While I don’t necessarily think it’s a must that you’ve read the first two books before picking this one up, it sure wouldn’t hurt because there’s a lot of history in all of these characters that definitely makes understanding the who’s and whys much easier. That being said, the love story of snarly Alex and uptight Spencer is a delightful addition to the series.
I always have a thing for a book where the MC’s have a bit of that love/hate vibe going on, and there is no doubt that Alex Dawn is feeling both from the moment she lays on the sexy and gruff LM Spencer. Spencer is in Tory on business and when his car has mechanical issues, it’s just his luck—much to his annoyance—that he happens to find Alex and Payton and Sons. There is a definite spark between these two as soon as the verbal spars start to fly and after a hot, steamy night at Spencer’s hotel room, they part ways thinking that they’ll never see one another again.
Of course this doesn’t happen and once they cross paths for the second time, they find it impossible to stay away from each other. I enjoyed watching these two circle around one another like wary guard dogs, snarling and growling to keep the other one from getting too close before they finally succumb to the attraction that’s been there from the start.
He didn’t seem surprised when he spotted her this time, and walked toward her, stopping when he was about five feet away.
She spoke first. “You case the place until you could get me alone?”
His glasses hid his eyes and his voice was even when he spoke. “What if I told you I did?”
She shrugged, but inside her stomach rolled. “I’d say that’s kind of pathetic.”
He smiled then, all teeth. “Maybe.”
“What do you want?”
“I wanted to talk to you.”
“What about?”
He took off his glasses and tucked them in his shirt. “I felt there were some things that needed explaining.”
Her lip curled. “There’s nothing that needs explaining.” That was exactly the last thing she wanted to hear from him. Because just by standing in front of her, he was making what she hoped to stay in the past surge to the present.
I loved how honest (except for one rather large omission!) Spencer is, especially when he opens up to Alex. Alex … well, I enjoyed her for the most part but I admit to finding her a bit cold and brittle. Sure she’s snarky and I always love a girl with sass and spunk, but in her case, it was more than a little off-putting. But these two together, I liked, and there were definitely some swoony moments and the sexy times were steamy.
Megan Erickson sure has a way of writing that pulls you in and keeps you turning the page. Dirty Deeds was a great addition to the Mechanics of Love series, and I’d highly recommend all three. The Payton family is pretty fantastic and you won’t be sorry to spend some time in Tory getting to know them all!
You know when you dive into a new romance and suddenly your casual escape swiftly turns into an all-night, blissful, binge-reading frenzy of downloading and devouring an entire series? That’s what happened when I fatefully and joyously discovered Megan Erickson’s searingly seductive, wildly addictive and uncommonly satisfying Mechanics of Love trilogy. Unquestionably one of the finest, most enjoyable and delightfully unexpected contemporary romance series of the year, each swoon-inducing installment was better than the last, creating a freight train of momentum and high anticipation for this week’s celebrated release of Alex and Spencer’s story in DIRTY DEEDS. And, Ladies and Gents, does their book deliver! Provocative, passionate and perfectly naughty, DIRTY DEEDS gifts fervent fans and new readers alike a marvelously entertaining and white-hot HEA that you’ll be savoring for days.
From the instant Alex Dawn arrived at Payton’s Garage at the end of DIRTY THOUGHTS, book one in the series, I knew I’d adore her. That pint-sized, peppery, outspoken, steeled and fiery hurricane of a heroine promised to be something special. As the series progressed, I got to know her beyond her hilariously prickly scene-stealing ways and fell in love with her as an affectionate and protective aunt and sister, a sharp and hard-working asset to the garage, a loyal friend and trusted ally to the Payton family, and, most importantly, as a scarred but resilient fighter and survivor of a turbulent and traumatic past. Honestly, no one deserved a happy, forever and always ever after more than Alex. And—*cheering loudly*—in DIRTY DEEDS she gets just that and so much more! Book three’s Alex is still well-armored, but now, anchored and supported by her new friends, she’s happier, more confident, even brassier, positively sparkling and ready to indulge in a strings-free night of impulsive and uninhibited passion with one singularly stunning and irresistible Brit named Spencer.
Oh Spencer… My goodness gracious! That beautiful and sexy-as-sin man is this series' most endearing, surprising and world-class erotic fantasy-inspiring hero to date. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve loved every single keeper-shelf Payton man including baby brother Max from Erickson’s popular New Adult Bowler University series. However Spencer is a cut above the rest. That delicious man shifts and stirs something deep down in your very soul. He’s just that yummy.
Now, having finished this extraordinary must-read series, as reluctant as I am to say farewell, I am ecstatic to add Megan Erickson to my shortlist of auto-buy authors! I simply can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next!
Bottom Line: A steal at under two dollars an e-book, this extraordinary trilogy is worth every single penny. And, although each book can stand alone, I highly suggest for maximum euphoric effect that you read the series from the beginning. You’re going to LOVE it!
Dirty Deeds is the third book in the Mechanics of Love series by Megan Erickson. It is the story of Ivy's sister- Alex. I am going to let you guys in on a little confession...I totally thought this was the second book in the series. I had no idea that Megan Erickson snuck book 2 by me completely. I am so bummed that I missed Brent's story. I have to go back and read that ASAP. The second book is also where we find the link from the Payton boys to the new girl at their garage- Alex. ivy is Brent's love interest from book 2, and Alex is her sister. I was able to figure it all out on my own, and wasn't lost at all while reading, but it would have been nice to have known all that going in. (which is why I am telling you guys)
Dirty Deeds is every bit as good as the first book, Dirty Thoughts. I might have even liked it more than Cal's story. Alex has been hurt in the past, that you can tell right from the start when she won't even say her ex's name. He is just "he". Slowly, as the story unfolds, Alex shares more and more of her past with Spencer and the reader. I really liked this because it never felt like Alex was forcing her sob story on anyone. It just came out naturally as she shares parts of herself.
And Spencer was a breath of fresh air. A couple of times while I was reading, I thought I had spotted a few well placed character cliches (nothing wrong with them! I just like to think I am really good at predicting them.) but then Megan Erickson had to go and blow my record out of the water. Every single time I thought something was cliche about Spencer, he went and proved me wrong. I can't adequately describe how much I love him. How unassuming he is and how fresh he felt as a character to me. His beauty was in his subtleties. I loved how taken he was with Alex, right from the start. And not just for the obvious reasons. He really liked her as a person. (which I know seems like a given, but I really really felt it from him.)
I am so in love with Megan Erickson's books. She is such a solidly great romance author. He stories always feel fresh, the writing and characters are always perfect and the romance is just the way I like it. I can't get enough of her. Someone please bring me book 2 so I can read it ASAP.
First off, Dirty Deeds is my favorite Mechanics of Love book. How can it not be? Alex is a total badass heroine and Spencer with his sexy British accent is just yum!
I don't know what else to say. I don't think there's more to say. Dirty Deeds is everything I could ask for!
The first time I met Alex I knew she's a badass. And reading this book proved exactly that. I don't think I've met a person more stubborn and fiercely determined that she is. I love her sass, independence, selflessness and unwavering strength. She's my favorite Dawn sister and now I have to say she's one of my favorite heroine. I love her confidence. But the best part about her? She doesn't apologize for who she is.
I think the author did a great job in writing Alex's story. She's one of the most memorable characters from the previous books and now she just proved how great of a character she really is.
But no matter how amazing of a character Alex is, Dirty Deeds wouldn't be half as good as it is without Spencer. I've always had a soft spot for guys with British accent (who isn't?) but Spencer is just... he's... *sigh*
What is it with Megan Erickson and cocky, sexy guys who could make you fall in love with them at first glance? I'm not complaining (I would never!) but Spencer just set the bar pretty high and it'll be a lot harder to look for new book boyfriends after this.
I still love Cal and Brent but Spencer just has this genuineness and gentle nature that would pull you in. (Who wouldn't fall for a guy who always puts you first?)
I love how the romance unfolded between Alex and Spencer. Their chemistry was undeniable and crazy hot. They balance each other so perfectly I don't think Megan could have written this any other way.
There are also some great character additions. I wasn't a huge fan of Nick but Penny was amazing. And of course this book wouldn't be as fun if it weren't for the Payton brothers.
Dirty Deeds is a perfect flirty, steamy and funny read. I'm definitely looking forward for more from the author!
You know how you start a series and fall in love with it and never want it to end but, somewhere in the back of your mind, you start to worry because what if, with each new book, the series starts to lose its steam? Well, this is not one of those series. I fell in love with Cal, Jenna, Brent and Ivy in the first two books and wasn't sure there was room to fall again in a third book, but I was wrong, because I totally did. Once I started this book, I couldn't put it down.
Alex is spunky and strong despite the fact that she's been convinced that she's weak and worthless. It's taken a while but with the help of her sister and the Payton family, she's decided to stand her ground and to quit running from her past. Spencer is a sexy, polished, British businessman with a not so posh past that he's determined to forget. One night with Alex while he's on his way out-of-town and he just can't seem to stop thinking about her and their night together, even when he's back in New York where she is supposed to be a distant memory.
When his job sends him back to town, he and Alex decide that their attraction is too strong to deny but the option for long-term isn't viable so they decide that casual is worth a shot. But casual turns to more, quicker than either of them can comprehend and when Spencer's reasons for being back threaten everything Alex loves, will it be the thing that finally breaks her for good?
This story was sexy and sweet and everything I've come to expect from this series and this author. I feel like I have a personal relationship with each of the characters and will miss them when this series is over for real. I'm holding out for one last story (*cough* Delilah & Davis). I have to admit that I might miss Brent the most. He's the perfect combination of sweet and funny and has provided some hilarious and sigh-worthy moments in each story.
If you love sweet, sexy, funny romances with a close-knit family feel to them then you need to get familiar with the Payton brothers and their friends ASAP.
Dirty Deeds is the third book in Mechanics of Love and although I enjoyed it but it wasn't as amazing as the first book in this series. This book centered around Alex who met in the previous book and Spencer a hot, "posh" British businessman. While I enjoyed this book it was predictable. I pretty much new exactly what was going to happen and there weren't any surprises along the way.
However, I enjoyed both Alex and Spencer and their relationship. Alex is a strong, loyal and hardworking woman with a difficult past. She left a previous boyfriend who emotionally abused her and she is just starting to find her self confidence again. She's still a bit damaged and unsure of herself but she's a fighter and determined to be better and stronger. I loved her relationship with the Paytons and the way she accepted herself for who she was as a woman.
Spencer was also an entertaining a fun character. He was handsome and charming and I loved how he helped Alex discover her self worth. He was patient and sweet and very protective. The best thing about Spencer was the way he treated Alex.
"I'm sitting here, soaking wet, with the hottest girl I've ever met on my lap, and I'm telling you that you have all the power here. All of it. You might have felt powerless with him, but he didn't take your power from you. It's not mine to give back, either, because you've had it all along. It's still yours.
Alex and Spencer were sweet together and their relationship progressed at a believable pace even though it was a short time period. The sexy times were either sweet or pretty hot (although not as hot as some other books by Megan Erickson).
Overall, a fun and entertaining book that I enjoyed and a fitting end to the series
