Il existe des romans qui mériteraient une bien plus grande visibilité et ce titre en fait partie 📖
L'intrigue nous plonge aux côtés de Sophia dont le destin bascule le jour où l’amour de sa vie est assassiné sous ses yeux. La tragédie se double d'un scandale : il est accusé de complicité avec une organisation criminelle. Prête à tout pour réhabiliter sa mémoire, Sophia passe deux ans à se détruire pour prouver son innocence. Mais ses croyances vacillent lorsque Thomas, un agent fédéral, s'immisce mystérieusement dans sa vie...🕵🏻♂️❤️🩹
Cette DR s’impose comme l’une des mieux écrites qu’il m’ait été donnée de lire. Le récit se révèle original, complet et particulièrement bien ficelé. La force du roman réside aussi dans la psychologie de ses personnages, dont la souffrance et la complexité sont décrites de façon crédible et intelligente. L’intégration de l'univers de l'espionnage (que j’affectionne particulièrement 🫢) apporte un vrai plus. Enfin, le dénouement s'achève sur un cliffhanger certes prévisible (j’ai sûrement lu trop de livres qui m’ont mené à prévoir cette fin 👀) mais parfaitement orchestré !!
J’attends la suite avec impatience !!! 🙏🏼

Um excuse me! What an emotional ride this was. I savored every minute of this book. I was immediately invested in this story and these characters. This book has one of the absolute best slow burns I’ve ever read in a dark romance. I loved Sophia’s character and how after everything she has suffered she is still so strong. And Thomas, I loved the fact that he hated everyone but her. The way he slowly softened only for her ahh! So good. The tension between these two was off the charts. The push and pull was slow torture throughout the book. Then the ending came and I was no prepared. I had suspensions but I was not prepared for the level of heartbreak at the end. This was not a HEA but I’m hoping by the end of this series it will be. Please check the trigger warnings before reading, this is a dark romance with dark themes.

August 26, 2026Une lecture que j’ai vraiment beaucoup aimée ! J’ai particulièrement apprécié les personnages, surtout Sophia, que j’ai trouvée intéressante et loin d’être lisse. Sa personnalité, ses blessures et sa détermination donnent beaucoup de profondeur à l’histoire.
J’ai aussi adoré la dynamique entre Sophia et Thomas : beaucoup de tension, de secrets et un véritable jeu de méfiance qui m’a tenue en haleine. Leur relation évolue progressivement, sans perdre cette part de danger qui rend le tout particulièrement addictif.
L’intrigue est bien rythmée et j’ai aimé le mélange entre romance sombre, suspense et vengeance. Une lecture intense et addictive, avec une ambiance qui m’a vraiment plu. 🖤

Sophia is a badass! Thomas…well she met her match with him. So many secrets.

I was actually an ARC reader for book 2 of the Sins of Aurora series, but since I hadn’t read book 1, Cold Mercy, I obviously had to go back and buy it on Kindle.
Julie has a way of grabbing your attention from the very first pages and making you want to keep reading. And before you know it, you’re way too invested in these people and their problems. You know… the usual.
One thing I really appreciated about Julie’s writing is the way she uses her words and sentences. And I specifically noticed this because, as an ARC reader, I once read a book with A LOT of very short sentences. One after another. Short sentence. Another short sentence. And honestly? I found it really uncomfortable to read. No hate to the author at all, but ever since then, I pay extra attention to the flow of a book.
And Julie’s writing just flows.
Her sentences can be longer, but never to the point where you lose track of what you’re reading. They feel natural and keep you moving through the story instead of constantly breaking the flow. You get so drawn into the book that you don’t even realise how far you’ve gotten until you’re suddenly almost at the end.
The story itself had me questioning Sophia more than once. Like… are ALL these accusations actually true?
Because obviously I needed to know. And once you start questioning things, putting the book down becomes slightly inconvenient you know... ;)
I also really liked the characters. They’re easy to relate to because, let’s be honest, life isn’t always peaches and cream. People deal with their shit in different ways, and these characters are no exception. Their story is messy, complicated and definitely not a smooth ride.
And if you’re an Enemies to Lovers fan…
Girl.
CHECK. THIS. ONE. OFF. YOUR. LIST.
This definitely falls into that category, and trust me… you’re going to want to see where this one goes.

Je dois avouer que j’avais un peu d’appréhension en commençant ce livre. Cela fait une éternité que je n’avais pas lu de dark romance. Et finalement, je me suis rapidement retrouvée embarquée dans l’histoire de Sophia.
Après l’assassinat de son fiancé, Sophia n’a qu’une idée en tête : comprendre ce qui s’est réellement passé et rétablir la vérité sur celui qu’elle aimait. Mais lorsqu’un certain Thomas Reed entre dans sa vie, les choses vont rapidement se compliquer. Parce qu’avec lui, rien n’est vraiment aussi simple qu’il n’y paraît.
J’ai beaucoup aimé toute la partie autour des secrets et des non-dits. On sent rapidement que quelque chose nous échappe et, plus on avance, plus les questions s’accumulent. Évidemment, je me suis mise à échafauder mes propres petites théories… avec plus ou moins de réussite. 😅
La relation entre Sophia et Thomas apporte également beaucoup de tension au récit. Entre méfiance, attirance et secrets, difficile de savoir à qui faire confiance. Et forcément, certains retournements de situation m’ont bien eue !
J’ai également apprécié le côté espionnage et vengeance, qui donne au roman une ambiance assez particulière. On est loin de la romance tranquille où tout se passe comme prévu. Ici, il faut constamment rester sur ses gardes.
Et cette fin… 😭 Je ne vais évidemment rien dire, mais disons simplement que l’autrice sait parfaitement comment donner envie de connaître la suite.
En bref, une lecture pleine de secrets, de tension et de retournements de situation, qui devrait plaire à ceux qui aiment les romances sombres avec une bonne dose de suspense. Et maintenant, il va falloir attendre la suite… parce que clairement, je veux savoir ce qui va se passer !

I really thought I would like this but there were just too many aspects that I didn’t like the execution of.
I feel like the story telling was so rushed. I love a fast paced book but in this case I feel like we never had a chance to experience any built up suspense and everything that was going on was intense but felt flat as the reader? Not sure if that makes sense.
The romance was way too fast for my liking. For the first 200 pages I felt like there was literally not substance to their relationship. The dynamic between them is so unnecessarily intense. Like they don’t even know each other that much so the hatred and back and forth just icked me out to be honest. I actually loved the banter and the dialogue but I have no personal interest or tie to the relationship so it’s not as consuming as I want it to be. The problem is definitely the pacing, it feels so rushed and insta lovey with a little bit of hate and annoyance.
I would have loved a little more plot and a little less of the romance. I found this to be really predictable.
By the end, I kind of just didn’t care about the high stakes.
Sadly was a bit of a miss for me but I definitely know this type of pace and writing could work for a lot of people so take it with a grain of salt x

I loved this book 😍!! It was very well written and had me hooked from page one! This book has it all.. An amazing FMC, a hot undercover detective, hurt, betrayal, a bit of mystery, delicious banter and so much tension and yearning 🔥!! The plot twist at the end though?!!! I absolutely need book two ASAP!!

I have a good amount of questions that I need answers to!
Sophia & Thomas' story is messy and engaging. While Thomas is EXTREMELY hot and cold, Sophia is having none of his BS and I absolutely love her for it. Excited to read rhe rest of the series!
