Wolf Shifter Broderick is stuck looking after his three younger brothers and a Collar-less Shifter who is driving him crazy, but he’s putting up with it for Joanne, the human woman he, for some reason, wants to impress. Joanne Greene, while grateful to Broderick for rescuing her sister, doesn’t know what to make of him. She’s been a loner most of her life, better able to relate to computers and coding than to people, until she’s drawn into the world of the Shifters.

Broderick is everything Joanne is not—a fighter and a tracker, from a rough-and-tumble family, better at working with his hands than understanding the netherworld of Joanne’s computer programmer life. Broderick is also extremely protective, wanting to draw her under his care as he does everyone else.

When Broderick is captured, mistaken for a Guardian, it’s Joanne who figures out that hackers are after the Guardian Network, the database that holds the deep secrets of Shifters past and present. Strangely, Broderick now holds the key to stopping the deadly danger of the network's breach, and Joanne with her coding skills is the only one who can help him.

Wolf Shifter Broderick is stuck looking after some Collar-less Shifters who are driving him crazy, but he’s putting up with them for Joanne, the human woman he, for some reason, wants to impress. When Broderick is captured, mistaken for a Guardian, Joanne Greene, a programmer who’s attracted to the very earthy Broderick, figures out that the Guardian Network, thought un-unhackable, is now in danger, and all the Shifters’ secrets with it.

This is the story of Broderick and Joanne.
Joanne in previous books, in order to save her sister, acted against shifters.
Broderick is a hard-ass lupine, a loud talker and a tough fighter but seriously lonely. He had stand up for Joanne, when all the other shifters hated her.
In this book someone is after the guardian's network and Broderick is kidnapped mistaken for a guardian. He will manage to escape and Joanne as a programmer with hucker skills will help him to solve the mystery of a dead gurdian and his sword which has disappeared.
My main issue is that the book felt a bit rushed -especially towards the end. Also, the chemistry between Broderick and Joanne was not very strong at the beginning. It took me a while to be convinced for their suitability.
Anyhow, still it was an enjoyable addition to the Shifters Unbound series.

3.5 Stars. A little different story for this series. The first part was a draggy and kind of Shifter 101; but newer readers needed the basic shifter info, I guess. The fae background and the lore of the Guardians hasn't been too deeply mined in this series, so this kind of story was a welcome change of pace. Oh, and Ashley avoided the insta-mate here. That was a nice touch. It's good to know that this far into the series she can switch gears and produce a fresh look into the world.

We've waited awhile for Broderick's story, and it was well worth the wait. This is still one of the best Shifter series out there.

~ 5 Bad Wolf Stars ~

Bad Wolf is a novella #7.5 in the Shifters Unbound series by Jennifer Ashley. I love this series especially the novella’s. The novella’s give us such a wonderful taste of Ms. Ashley’s writing and the world of the Shifters Unbound.

Broderick is a wolf shifter. We learn a little more about him. If you have read some of the earlier novellas and books then you will notice that Broderick comes of as a dick, but here we get to see his vulnerable side as well as getting an understand of how he sees himself.

Joanne is a human. She brought some bad publicity/cops to the Austin shiftertown when she was looking for her sister. Broderick stood up for her and they have been dating for sometime, but she is not sure where she stands with him and shifters.

I enjoyed the plot and learning more about these two. I love the human shifter hook ups the best in this world. Joanne and Broderick’s relationship came off as friends with a little something on the side, but as you read on you understand that Jo wants more, but is unsure of where she stands. Broderick keeps her at a distance, but he also wants more. We see sides of both these character we never thought to see. The secondary characters are as wonderful as every, plus we are back in Austin with some pretty fun shifter couples that we get to see where their lives are at.

Bad Wolf is a quick, fast-paced, action packed adventure with some pretty cool characters. I recommend this series. Do you need to read in order? Not really, but you will get the best enjoyment if you do. Some of the books and most of the novellas can be read as standalone.

I had to think about what I wanted to say about Broderick. I didn't have a very good grasp of him as a character and didn't feel the romance between him and Jo-jo, because he wasn't saying my mate from the very first. Because usually our shifters males are right up front with that. But until Tiger said that Jo-jo was his mate, he was saying just friends in his head and so was Jo. Then boom the frenzy was on. I had a warm and fuzzy with them as a couple in the end, but it took me a while to get there. I was glad to read about that twist in the book, but can't say what it is because it is too spoilery, but yea!! Now I am excited about Kendrick's book, White Tiger and can't wait for him and Tiger to have a look at one another. Won't that be a fun time for all?

This one was so much fun to read! I liked how Broderick kept fighting his feelings for Joanne, how he didn't want to go to fast with her, how he wanted to protect her. Too bad she was having none of it. As much fun and it was to see Broderick and Joanne argue back and forth, it was better to see Broderick do the same with his band of shifter brothers, especially Tiger. Tiger's frank way of talking and "knowing" really seemed to freak Broderick out.

I liked that Broderick and Joanne did what they could to help a fellow shifter, even if the outcome wasn't a good one, but the best in that situation.

After a mistaken kidnapping, wolf shifter Broderick learns someone is after a Guardian. Despite his loud protests, his human computer whiz girlfriend Joanne gets involved and uncovers a murder and a plan to hack into the Guardian Network. Broderick will have to resist the instinct to hide Joanne away and work with her to stop the breach that could have consequences that will reach beyond the human realm.

Everything about this novella is just okay. Broderick surprised many when he took Joanne under his protection after she admitted to working against the Austin Shiftertown after thinking they were behind her sister's disappearance. Broderick is rough, grumpy, and underestimates his worth. Not an original character yet enough to satisfy my alpha shifter craving. After learning more about Joanne, I can take her or leave her. I like that she sees the real potential in Broderick when he believes he's only muscle but there's nothing spectacular about her. Their pasts are sad and I was pulling for their mate bond but again, I'm left feeling just...okay about them.

The plot doesn't leave a better impression on me. A hacker is trying to get into the Guardian Network, a shifter program that holds all kinds of shifter secrets accessible only by Guardians, at the command of someone far more lethal and they prove early on they're not afraid to spill blood. Where the story leads is farfetched, even for this series. It just doesn't flow with what's taken place before and where the series is currently heading.

I don't hate Bad Wolf, it just doesn't stack up against previous heroes, heroines, romance, or plot. It's entertaining enough that I finished it with no problems but it's not a reread and if you don't get a chance to pick it up, I don't believe you'll miss anything.

Broderick is trying to resist the tempting human but she´s just so interesting, he can´t stay away. When he´s abducted and needs a pickup, she´s his first call.
Joanne never thought that searching for her vanished sister would end her smack in the middle of Shifter business, but the gorgeous Broderick makes it all worth it. When he´s abducted and they need help with the computers Joanne steps up.
Quick read, fast paced in-between novel, with suspense, action and smutty fluff in a great combo. Love returning to this world =).

3.5 stars - Review to come, but I liked it... I like the way that the characters that were not exactly bad but antagonistic to the leads in previous books make great leads once you get to see behind all of the attitude. Ashley does a great job with her shorts, and even this many books into the series still leaves me wanting more of her shifters.

Great Novella with Sexy Shifter and Lots of Cameos

"It was hard to protect a woman who went charging ahead before Broderick could check that the way was safe."

THE STORY: Broderick McNaughton is a wolf shifter who lives in the Austin Shiftertown. Readers of the Shifters Unbound series will know that the shifters are treated as second class citizens, forced to live in designated town with few rights. They are magical creatures having been created by their enemies the Fae to be entertainment and weapons of war.

Broderick knows something is wrong when he awakens in a strange place. He realizes that he has been abducted. The people who abducted him want information about the Shifters. Broderick escapes and returns to the Austin Shiftertown and his sort of girlfriend Joanne Greene. Joanne is human and her relationship with Broderick is complicated. The two are circling around one another at the same time that they are attracted to one another. Broderick's abduction brings them closer together as they work together, use Joanne's skills as a hacker, to discover who is threatening the Shifters.

The mystery includes a murdered Guardian, appearances by and updates about Austin Shiftertown residents and a real partnership between the main characters.

OPINION: I really liked this novella. The story is snappy and I was surprised at the resolution. It was a definite suspense/mystery story. With unexpected appearances and surprise resolutions, this book is a treat for fans of the series.

Ashley does a great job of keeping the overarching storyline of the series moving forward without allowing the plot to become too complicated.

Broderick is a fun hero. Sexy and brave, he doesn't think much of himself at times because he is not part of the leadership of the Shiftertown. This story, however, shows that he has an important role and that he is important to those around him. He is a shifter who does his job. I especially liked that he is interested in what Joanne does because it is important to her and wants to know more about it only because of the importance in her life.

Joanne is a character that has grown. I liked that Ashley has redeemed this character who was a negative character when first introduced. There is much here about characters not being simply good or evil. Throughout the series, many characters who had negative appearances have their motivations explained, their opinions changed and become better people because of their life experiences. Joanne is smart and able to take care of herself but has learned a lot and has a more humble view of the world.

This is a bridge book which finishes up some loose storylines and allows the story to continue in future books. It is a good one.

WORTH MENTIONING: Readers of LIon Eyes will be happy to have some additional resolution regarding that story here. Also, I was especially pleased to see Tiger again. He happens to be one of my favorite characters and plays an important role in this story.

FINAL DECISION: I loved this novella. Broderick was a compelling hero who seemed kind and compassionate but with a hell raising side. The romance is not as strong here as with other of the books in the series, but the appearances by other characters makes up for it.

CONNECTED BOOKS: BAD WOLF is book number 7.5 in the Shifters Unbound series. A reader doesn't have to follow the whole series to enjoy this book. This book is most closely connected with BEAR ATTRACTION and the novella LION EYES so readers might enjoy BAD WOLF more if those are read first.

STAR RATING: I give this novella 4.5 stars.

REVIEW: 3.75 stars--BAD WOLF is the latest installment in Jennifer Ashley’s adult Shifters Unbound paranormal romance series. Jennifer Ashley’s shifters are persecuted and discriminated against by the humans but the humans have help in their attempts to bring the shifters under control using magic-infused collars and segregated towns. The Shifter history reveals that the Fae created the Shifters but in doing so left a little bit of magic behind. This is wolf shifter/alpha Broderick McNaughton, and human/computer geek Joanne Greene’s storyline.

Told from third person point of view BAD WOLF follows the abduction and rescue of Broderick McNaughton, and the discovery that someone is searching for a way into the Guardian Network. The Guardians hold the secrets of the Shifter species and their connection to the Fae. What ensues is the search for the people responsible for Broderick’s abduction, and an unexpected trip to Faerie where Joanne and Broderick find themselves prisoners of the Fae. A couple of surprises greet our couple upon their arrival.

The relationship between Joanne and Broderick is one of friendship but Broderick refuses to believe that Joanne is his mate. The romance is limited; it is almost an afterthought as our couple traverse between worlds and attempt an escape in order to save their lives.

The secondary and supporting characters include several of the previous storyline characters –Seamus, Sean, Tiger and Spike as well as the Broderick’s younger brother Mason. Someone presumed missing and dead makes a surprising appearance.

We are introduced to Commander Kian of the Fae army; and feline shifter Daragh whose life is no longer his own. The requisite evil comes in many forms but a young computer hacker by the name of Cilla will soon realize that tampering with things she knows nothing about has placed her in a very precarious position.

BAD WOLF is a fast paced storyline that continues to move the focus of the series towards the Fae connection to the Shifter species. The premise is interesting and engaging; the characters colorful and energetic; the romance was a little lacking. If you are fan of Jennifer’s SHIFTERS UNBOUND series, BAD WOLF is another welcome and entertaining addition.

The story of Broderick, a wolf shifter who wakes up in an unfamiliar place, restrained and blindfolded, and right in the middle of a plot that involves shifters and the Guardian Network.

Joanne, who is an expert hacker, is tasked with helping him figure out what exactly the bad guys are after, and the two of them discover that .

Broderick and Joanna's adventure together brings them closer and they make the change from friends to lovers, before eventually accepting the fact that they are mates.

A short and fast paced story that adds more detail to the shifters' world and progresses the overall story arc of the series. Next comes another novella, Wild Things, starring Broderick's brother Mason.

Bad Wolf is the story of Broderick, one of the Wolf fighters of Austin Shiftertown and Joanne Green, the human woman whom first appeared in Feral Heat; at that time Joanne's sister was missing and she accused the Shifters of kidnapping her. Joanne has been staying at Austin to be with her sister and her sister's mate who is on the verge of going Feral.

Lately, Ashley's novellas in the Shifters Unbound series have become as important to the whole arc as the novels. So I tried to read about them as well. When Broderick was captured after being mistaken as Guardian, we found out that another Guardian was killed, and the sword missing. Somehow the sword's medallion found its way to Broderick. Apparently, there was a human trapped in Fae's world, and the Guardian's soul trapped there as well, and another human woman was trying to save the human but ended up having his hired help killing the Guardian and kidnapped Broderick by mistake.

I liked that Joanne and Broderick had known each other for the past months. They both clearly were attracted to one another, but apparently Broderick was a bit stubborn when it comes to choosing his mate. I was happy that Joanne was resourceful -- she was good with computer, used to be a hacker -- and didn't yield to Broderick's growling, prowling, and protective way. She was strong and smart and definitely became a good partner for Broderick when push comes to shove.

Some of the previous characters made appearance here -- Sean, Spike, Seamus (I need to read his story as well) and Tiger, that crazy cryptic bastard *lol*. I totally thought Tiger to be very amusing, especially when he muttered predictions that would ALWAYS turn out to be right.

I was still not completely certain that I would enjoy the whole Fae thing. But it was intriguing indeed. And that human, Remy, who was trapped at Fae's world ... I'm sure there will be another story about him down the line.

Broderick and Joanne. Another great read in an awesome series! Not really a stand alone as we meet Joanne in the previous two books.
Joanne and Broderick have history, but alls good now. He is drawn to her but resists because he worries that she will turn him down or worse turn him away after his mating instincts have already kicked in. He's not a man-ho, so no worries there. In fact, he isn't attracted to anyone else but her. Joanne is attracted to him too, but still feels bad about the way they met.
The story starts with Broderick's kidnapping by a ruthless goth girl's henchmen. Apparently her thugs took the wrong shifter and she tries to shoot him as he escapes. What follows is a seemless blend of mystery, romance, suspense, intrigue, fae scum and joanne's fantastic hacker skills.
A fun ride with some of your fave characters putting their two cents in and a sweet ending!
I listened to the audio and the reader, David Brenin, does a wonderful job.
I wasn't expecting to like this one so much cause I wasn't a big fan of Broderick in previous books. He turned out to be the perfect gruff, rough around the edges foil for a girl who'd been knocked around a bit by life. When he opens his heart, he is ALL IN!

After the previous few books, Broderick was not really a favorite shifter of mine. His role in taking in Joanne and her family, problems and all was very noble of him. I liked that, but still he was a bit brash for me. However, he started to win me over with his feelings for Joanne and how confused he was. He is responsible for keeping his family safe and now that includes a couple of humans.

Broderick and Joanne's story is full of danger and surprises. Joanne becomes very important to the Shifters with her coding skills while we learn some truly interesting information about Broderick. I was intrigued by Broderick's revelations and how they are going to relate to the Shifter world.

Broderick finding his way into realizing Joanne is his mate was fun. He was resistant, but there was so much pull. Joanne was confused by the signals she was getting from Broderick but I think she knew what she wanted.

Bad Wolf was an exciting, adrenaline filled novella with lots of surprises and even the beginning of a story arc I think. I learned to really like Broderick's character and I loved Joanne. I had a great time with this book. I don't like to compare, but I really do prefer Justine Eyre doing the narration, so this one took a little bit of getting used to. It did not take away from my love of the story though.

Here I am reviewing another book by Jennifer Ashley so close to the other one. On Monday I read Lion Eyes. Here's why, I read them out of order and already had Bad Wolf down in my calendar as this months reading challenge. I so hate crossing things out. Ha!

All the means is that you get to join me in my love for the Shiftes Unbound Series.

I do love them. The characters and story is very well written. You can't help finding yourself lost once you start reading them. There is so many layers to the shifters and their world that just when you think you have it figured out...you learn something new.

The second Broderick came on the scene I was hooked. There is just something about him. I think it was the way he treated Joanne when you first meet them in a prior book. Even though she was causing trouble, he was there for her. So sweet and caring. Of course he doesn't have a issue ripping peoples faces off either if they were to threaten those he cares about.

See, I really like him. Of course the story isn't only about Broderick, it's also about Joanne. I do like her. She too would hurt anyone that stood between her and those she cared about. Of course she's way to caring for some that don't really deserve it. I don't want to ruin this story or the one where we first meet her.

My only complaint for the story is that it was to short. I wanted more of them both. Yes the story felt complete, just not enough. I don't want you to think that I felt it wasn't good because that's far from the case. I just wasn't done with them.

As always...
IM NEVER dissatisfied with Jennifer's work.
I'm been wanting Brod's book for a while, and finally got it!!
Read it in one day, and I wish it just kept going...cause you know.. I'm greedy like that lol

I wish there was more Romance and communication between him and JoJo though...
Is it just me or does it kind of look like Brod's personality did a complete 180°? I mean where's my Badass, mouthy, has to pick a fight with everyone, got stick stuck up his ass Brod? (personally I really liked that version of him)
This version of him was kind of...neutered?
I know but its true!!!

He was too nice...too soft and he wasn't angered easily like he was in past books...
and
I don't know much about JoJo, she wasn't very interesting in the past books.
I know she kind of liked to pick fights too and I was waiting for a good 'JoJo vs. Broderick' fight that left them having a hot steamy sex scene.
(you know the saying angry sex is good sex..) but sadly that didn't happen. I wish the book was more developed so you are both of the real them and a smooth joining Romance that made sense..
BUT.
I DID! ENJOY THIS BOOK!
It might've been too short but its an important filler!
And as always gotta love Tiger! Too adorable for words!
Hope he gets a 2nd book!

Every time I read one of these books I have two diametrically opposed thoughts that go through my head: (a) I should really read this series in order to get the full impact of each pairing and, (b) screw that, I should really just go balls to the wall and read whatever I can get my hands on in whatever order they come to me. I am a confused individual when it comes to these shifters, it would seem.

But enough about me. Let's talk about Broderick and Joanne. They're kinda cluelessly cute the way they don't quite see how much they mean to one another. Broderick gets all grumbly and growly whenever anyone gets to close to Joanne, but he can't connect the dots that *maybe* she's the one for him. And Joanne just thinks he's being nice when he takes her sister and her mostly feral mate under his wing.

ADORABLY CLUELESS, THEY ARE.

We got some face time in the fae world (those fae are messed up, aren't they? It can't all be death and blood all the time, guys. Go have some FUN every once in a while.) and got to see the shifter community rally when needed (as they often do). Fun and sexy with a side order of crazy fae. GOOD TIMES!

Snooze-a-palooza.

I have a grievance with this series, and it's Jennifer Ashley's obsession with babies.

Pretty much every. goddamn. book (and I'm about 90% sure it's literally EVERY book, I'm just too lazy to check) ends with the heroine pregnant.

I don't like kids. And I subscribe to that crazy belief that women DON'T need a spouse and kids to be happy. *gasps* And yeah, sure, I understand that the Shifters want to procreate to 'further their line' and whatnot.

But it just really drives me up the wall that the women don't seem to get any say in the matter? Like, you're mate-claimed and then immediately knocked up.

THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE ANY TIME TO GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER.

What I would LOVE to read is a book where the heroine does not want kids, and the book ends with NO KIDS. Like, no compromising with her mate, just NO. CHILDREN. I doubt it will ever happen, but I'm just throwing it out there.

Broderick was one of the characters that was not that liked or likable but there was something about him that screamed "nice guy".
He met Joanne when she caused problems to all shifters. There was a hint for a possible mating when he defended her and I wondered how all will pen out.

Broderick was sexy, fun and carrying. I liked him from beginning. It was sad to see that with his parent's death he stopped believing in a true mating and he lost his way. He didn't think that being a tracker for Liam was a great honor or that he did something important or he mattered to anyone.

Joanne was just the right girl for Broderick and it was fun to see Tiger pointing him in the right direction throughout the book.
Of course the plot was great. The Fae keep coming with new ways to enslave the shifters and the shifters are fighting them off the best they can.

I was not a fan of this story like I was with the other books in this series. The last few have left something to be desired. Joanne and Broderick had already met, already knew each other, and were already dating. The meeting and courtship is half the fun of a book, and this story lacks that. So this was not as good, not a lot of romance...which took the back seat. It was more adventures/investigation...trying to figure stuff out. There was no chemistry. Broderick is supposed to be an alpha, but he doesn't seem like it. His thoughts make him seem like he has low self confidence. He is reluctant to mate Joanne. And with no food reason. The book was boring, and lacks heat. And this series numbering is getting kind of silly. Having books with .5 is fine...but .25 is just too much.

3.5 Stars but I'll round up to 4 Stars because I like this series. This book centers around Joanne and Broderick who we have met in previous books. However, this book can be read as a stand alone. In fact that was one of the reasons this book is only 3.5 stars for me. There was a ton of repetition of information on the shifters/their towns/relationships from the series that was repeated in this book. The second reason is that there really wasn't much romance. They are sort of established as girlfriend/boyfriend already but Broderick isn't acknowledging that Joanne is his mate. I also didn't exactly follow the sword picking Broderick but only for this mission? Definitely not the best in the series but still enjoyable.

I didn't think I would really like Broderick ever, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I love that behind his apparent a'hole persona lurkes an artist of sorts. He even kept that info from his "girlfriend". Joanne was a fun heroine to read about. Broderick, as is typical of all shifters in this series, fails to express himself to his human gf thereby leaving her confused etc. A rather interesting turn of events sets in motion the story and their relationship develops from there. I like how Ms. Ashley has furthered the series and developed the characters. Can't wait for the next book to come out.

I enjoyed this book. I'm glad that Broderick was not the new Guardian for that other shifter town, because I didn't want him to have to leave his family. Also, I love any scene with Tiger in it. He's a favorite! I can't wait to see him with his new cub! It was a nice, short installment in the series.
