Monsters of Mosswood #2

Accidentally Mated to the Bear Shifter Next Door

Rate this book
What would you do if you found yourself accidentally mated to your brother’s best friend?

Bastien was my first love. Even when we were kids I only had eyes for him. Back then he was all hands and feet, too big in his own body. Now he’s all grown up—and I do mean grown. He towers over all the other guys in our small town. Bastien was the one who taught me how to ride a bike; picked me up and carried me home when I’d scrape my knee; and he was there to see me through every childhood bump in the road.

So when we’re snowed in and I go into my first heat there’s no one I’d rather have to take me through it.

The trouble is, he’s waiting for his fated mate and I can never be her. I’m not a shifter. Only my brother inherited the magic, so as much as I want him, the kindest thing is to let Bastien go. But he is adamant—that bite on my neck is his claim, regardless of how it happened. How do I convince him to give up on me; and if he does, how will my heart ever recover?

A stunning OV-lite look at size difference in a small town. Tropes are averted, subverted, and reversed to bring childhood friends together as adults.
Se(Bas)tien buys his parents old house next to his child hood Crush. Vera is not a shifter, and has always had a Crush on him. When he rebuffed her kiss before college to avoid disappointing her *with how big he is* (lmao ofc bigger is better) THEY BOTH expected to be over it when he returns home.
A fateful snow fall leaves them stranded near a hot spring and things... heat up 😏

A green flag x green flag story of sticking with family and mate to ensure the best for each other.
Wholesome, whimsical and so SO filling, in all the right holes - sorry places - sorry emotions 😳😳

Highly recommend for first time Omega verse or long time Omega verse fans!

Bastian and Vera have loved each other since they were kids. Vera never believed she should because, she though, she was born without magic. Bastian didn't believe he was right for her. When circumstances force them together, they both realize how wrong they were. Life throws some challenges in their way, but together they learn to weather the storm and rely on each other.

I loved Vera and Bastian, they were both strong, yet vulnerable. They each believed they shouldn't be loving each other for various reasons. When they are thrown together they realize how perfect they are, and how much they need each other. They both have moments of thinking this won't work, but eventually they realize how right they are.

Learning how to build that relationship, that trust, you go on that whole journey in this book. It was warm and funny and spicy and wonderful.

Man or bear?
The bear…shifter.

This was a wonderful read and one that chocked me up at times. I love how the characters worked well together and always put each other’s wellbeing first and never let them felt alone during tough times in their lives.

I know need Riley’s book and the amazing adventures of Bella , she’s gonna be a great character for sure.

Where has this story been all my life??

Accidentally Mated to the Bear Shifter is an incredibly spicy yet heartwarming cozy romance that follows independent Vera, a college student who returns to her hometown to be with her family for Christmas, and Bastien, a golden-retriever bear shifter who struggles with feeling like he takes up too much space. These childhood friends bond when Vera - a fox shifter who has yet to shift - finds herself in an abrupt heat while snowed in with Bastien.

From the moment I met her, Vera gave me strong 'best friend' vibes, which is to say I found her as the kind of woman who I'd want to be best friends with. Vera's confident in herself and isn't afraid to ask for what she wants. She's also kind and compassionate, and her relationship with her family is balanced; she doesn't put her needs over theirs or their needs over hers. She knows her worth and she knows how to respect her family's worth.

When she's with Bastien, I loved Vera taking charge of their intimacy at times (though waking him up by riding him?? Girl 🤣I could just SEE how sleepy he was) and I loved that she wasn't afraid of sex. Don't get me wrong, I also tend to affiliate more with the shy, awkward types who grow into themselves, but what I enjoyed about Vera was that she didn't need to grow into herself. She was already confident in who she was, she just needed to find out who she could be while in a relationship.

And Bastien, oh sweet Bastien 😍He's kind of like a himbo, and I love himbo MMCs! He's a total sweetheart who thinks he takes up too much space and struggles with his parents' divorce. Bastien is someone you want to give so many bear hugs to (pun intended) but when it comes to protecting those he loves he goes total bear-mode that made my toes curl. Bastien's the kind of MMC who's 'I'll have her home by seven' during the day and 'she calls me daddy too' during the night 😜I loved how careful he was with Vera, never infantilizing her because of their size difference, rather analyzing his previous interactions and his parents' relationship to make sure he doesn't hurt her. I think Wright did an amazing job going about their size-difference troubles because it really brought out the best in Bastien.

The spicy scenes in this book were out of this world! The knotting 😍phew, knotting always gets me! I also liked how realistic it was, as Bastien took more time to get rejuvenated than Vera, but when he took control I was FANNING myself! Their celebratory spicy scenes were also not one to miss XD

I also loved the multiple sclerosis representation that Wright portrayed in this book, which I think she handled very well, as a disabled individual. Vera's mother wasn't defined by her disability and was still a compassionate, hands-on parent.

I think the only issue I had was Riley's character, not because he was arrogant and childish - at times - but that he fell into such a heavy stereotype. Vera and Bastien were amazing, fleshed characters, but although Riley had potential, his character just felt jarring. He went from careless older brother to overprotective and hating that she fell for his best friend. I struggled to like Riley and just wished, despite his arrogance, he could have been more supporting. I see Wright's vision for making him learn to 'grow up', but I think it could have been done...differently? I just found him irritating and honestly not that great of a brother.

Plot wise, this is a very cozy story! At times the pacing drags, and we only really get a kick of excitement towards the end of the book when we meet Bastien's parents, but I enjoyed reading the development of Vera and Bastien's relationship. I kind of wished there'd have been more resentment instead of them instantly bonding, because I feel like they could have talked it out more in the beginning, then the snowed-in trope would have had more tension from unresolved matters.

Overall, I enjoyed this book! I have to go read Gryffn and Honey's book now!

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ SPICE: SOMEBODY OPEN A WINDOW. 🥵🔥🐻

Accidentally Mated to the Bear Shifter Next Door by Ami Wright

🚨 SPOILERS AHEAD! 🚨

OH. MY. GOD. BAS. 🥵🐻🔥

A bear shifter AND your brother’s best friend?! YES PLEASE. Because seriously, who hasn’t fallen for—or at least had the hots for—someone’s best friend?! 🤭 And when that best friend grows up to be Bastien freaking Bas… Vera never stood a chance.

Bas is EVERYTHING I want in a shifter romance hero. He’s big, strong, protective, sexy as hell, and possessive in all the right ways—but underneath all that strength is a man who genuinely cares. ❤️

Vera and Bas have so much history together, which made their romance even better for me. This isn’t just two people suddenly thrown together. These two have YEARS of feelings, memories, attraction, and emotions simmering underneath the surface.

Then they get snowed in together and all those buried feelings finally have nowhere left to hide. 👀❄️🔥

And when Vera unexpectedly goes into her first heat?!

GOODBYE.

The tension between these two finally SNAPS, and Bas goes from brother’s best friend to the bear shifter we’ve all been waiting for. 🥵🐻

And then THE BITE.

Bas claims Vera, but afterward she’s convinced it was a mistake. She isn’t a shifter, so how could she possibly be the mate he was meant to have? She’s willing to break her own heart because she believes Bas deserves his real fated mate.

Meanwhile Bas is basically like…

Woman, HAVE YOU MET ME?! YOU ARE WHAT I WANT. 😂🐻❤️

THAT is what made me fall completely in love with him.

Yes, Bas is sexy. Yes, he’s strong. Yes, the man has enough protective bear energy to make a girl reconsider her entire stance on dating humans. 🤣 But what makes him SO attractive is how much he genuinely cares about Vera.

He wants to protect her.
He wants to take care of her.
He wants HER.

There’s something so incredibly romantic about loving someone who has been part of your life for years and finally realizing that the person you were meant to find may have been right beside you all along. 😭❤️

BUT HOLD ON…

Because just when I thought I knew where this story was taking me…

RILEY.

😳😳😳

UMMMMMM, EXCUSE ME?!

Riley’s entire situation had my jaw ON. THE. FLOOR.

I genuinely had one of those moments where you stop reading, stare at the page, reread it because surely you misunderstood something, and then just sit there thinking…

WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL JUST HAPPENED?! 😱

I was so wrapped up in Vera and Bas that I was NOT prepared for Riley’s situation to come swinging in and completely catch me off guard.

THAT REVEAL?!?!

Ami Wright, you knew EXACTLY what you were doing. 😂

It added another whole layer to the story and immediately had my brain going a million miles an hour. Suddenly I wasn’t only invested in Bas and Vera—I needed to know EVERYTHING ABOUT WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH RILEY.

Talk about a freaking JAW DROP MOMENT. 🤯

And somehow after all of that, I STILL came away thinking about Bas. 😂🐻

Bas is giving:
🐻 Brother’s best friend
🔥 Protective bear shifter
❤️ Childhood connection
🥵 Big, strong & ridiculously sexy
❄️ Snowed-in forced proximity
💋 Years of buried attraction
🐻 Possessive “you’re mine” energy
❤️ Caring, protective & romantic
🔥 Fated-mate deliciousness
😱 And a Riley situation I STILL haven’t recovered from

This book gave me romance, heat, emotion, surprises, fated mates, brother’s-best-friend tension, forced proximity AND a protective bear shifter who could probably throw me over his shoulder like I weigh nothing.

Respectfully…

WHERE DO I SIGN UP?! 🥵🐻😂

Vera, girl, I GET IT.

Because if Bas lived next door to me, I’d suddenly be outside every five minutes like:

“Oh noooo, Bas… I need help again.” 🤭😂

Ami Wright absolutely delivered with this one. It was sexy, romantic, sweet, surprising, spicy, and ridiculously addictive.

And Riley?!

I’M STILL NOT OVER IT. 😱

I had such a fun time with this book!

Vera and Sebastian had me hooked from the start, and I found myself smiling through so many of their interactions. I'm always a sucker for a good brother's best friend/next door romance, and this one absolutely delivered. Their chemistry felt natural, their relationship developed at a believable pace, and I loved watching them slowly become exactly what the other needed. By the end, I honestly wasn't ready to say goodbye to them.

One thing I really appreciated was how approachable the shifter world was. I haven't read a huge amount of shifter romance, and sometimes the lore can get a little overwhelming, but Ami Wright did a fantastic job of explaining the biology and world-building without making it feel like an information dump. Everything made sense, and I never felt lost.

Vera was hands down one of my favourite FMCs I've read in a while. She has this amazing take-no-shit attitude while still being compassionate and genuinely kind. As an independent woman myself, I absolutely loved seeing a heroine who didn't need rescuing every five minutes. She was confident without being arrogant, capable without trying to prove herself, and honestly just so refreshing to read. We need more Veras!

And then there's Sebastian... oh, Bas. 🥹 I have the biggest soft spot for this man. Watching Vera slowly chip away at the walls he'd built around himself and help him see his own worth was probably my favourite part of the entire book. I only wish we'd gotten a little more of his backstory, particularly his childhood trauma. It was clear there was so much pain there, and I would've loved to explore that side of him even more because he was such a beautifully written character.

Overall, this was sweet, emotional, funny, and incredibly easy to binge. The only downside? I wanted more. More Vera. More Bas. More of their life together after everything they'd been through. I wasn't ready for their story to end, and I think that's one of the biggest compliments I can give a romance.

If you love protective bear shifters, confident heroines, emotional healing, and romances where the couple genuinely make each other better people, I'd definitely recommend picking this one up.

Monster Romance with fated mates, heat, knotting and her brother's best friend.

ARC Read for Ami Wright, I was lucky enough to arc read book 1 of this series as well and I fell in love with the characters of Mosswood. I can only thank Ami for letting me have the honor of reading both books before release because I am addicted.

Accidentally Mated centres around Vera, a college student who comes from a family of Fox shifters but doesn't seem to have the gift. After being talked into going home for the holidays by her older brother Riley, she comes face to face with the bear shifter she's had a crush on since she was a kid, Bastien, Riley's best friend and Ranger at Black Pines National Park. Vera wants to be a park ranger more than anything and when her internship placement falls through, she has an idea that could be both brilliant and terrible at the same time, ask Bas to be her mentor so she can still do her internship and graduate from college.

I absolutely love this book, the characters, the plot, the spice (fans self).

Vera is a strong, young woman who just wants to feel like she hasn't failed. The way she handles herself and the situation she puts herself in with Bastien is delightfully self assured even though it becomes more and more difficult to control her feelings. Her longing to shift and fit in with the rest of her family is a little heartbreaking but I adore how sure her mum is that it's going to happen even when Vera has given up hope.

Bastien is moody and adorable, I love that he isn't your usual chiselled MMC with rock hard abs and rippling muscles, bears are meant to be cuddly and I have always been a fan of the husky dad bod look. He is battling his own demons and ultimately it brings them closer when he realises that Vera loves him no matter what.

I am a sucker for a fated mates romance and the emotional rollercoaster mixed with the high heat spice of this book was everything. It intertwined beautifully and there were a few teary eyed moments for me (I am soppy AF behind this whole goth girl thing)
The spicy stuff - so Vera goes into heat having zero preparation and Bastien is the only man she sees. Hot damn is it delicious and when she accepts the bond, holy hell it's feral.

I absolutely adored the twists in this too. Some things I kinda had an inkling and others I was like EXCUSE ME?!

I cannot fault Ami for this series and I cannot fucking wait to read book 3 when it's ready.

🖤 “You’re my whole world.”

Vera is awesome! She’s bold, fierce and independent. Even more, she’s very caring, compassionate and understanding. And I loved her confidence and sass. Vera is a wonderful woman and I loved her so, so much!

And then, there’s Sebastien - a truly remarkable bear shifter and a park ranger. Bas is huge, strong, and built for big hugs. And there’s even more to him than meets the eye. Because underneath his bulky facade is a caring, patient and sweet male, who fiercely protects what’s his. Bas is absolutely wonderful and I adored every single thing about him!

I absolutely loved everything that happened between Vera and Bas! Bas was Vera’s first love, but when she confessed her feelings, he turned her down gently. Now, Vera is in college and studying to become a park ranger. And when her internship placement falls through, Bas is there to save the day…

I adored Bas and Vera together! Their chemistry was fantastic and I loved every moment they spent together. And their banters and teasing were such a delight to read. Talk about tension with those two… But when they get snowed-in in a cave and Vera unexpectedly goes into heat, and after years of buried attraction, all bets are off. And what came afterwards… oh, naughty, naughty! The spice was definitely spicing and I couldn’t get enough. Even more, I loved how much Vera and Bas understood, supported and worked so well together, especially when they had to deal with different troubles, issues and family dynamics. They were absolutely perfect for each other and more than deserved to find happiness and love together!

Overall, Accidentally Mated to the Bear Shifter Next Door is another sweet, emotional, fun and delightfully naughty addition to the series.

I couldn’t put it down and loved every single page of it!

This was such a fun read! I received this yesterday and already finished it. 😅 Vera and Bastien have a great combination of history, tension, sweetness and awkward chemistry. I loved that Bastien was this enormous, protective bear shifter who was secretly a cinnamon roll sweetheart. Vera is stubborn, funny, and gracefully persevered in a family and friend group as the only human.

The brother’s-best-friend and childhood-crush elements worked for these characters, especially with all the unresolved feelings between them. Add in some forced proximity (my favorite), an unexpected heat, some family drama, and plenty of spice, and I was completely invested. I mean…I worked an 8hr day and still finished it. Their banter made me giggle and kick my feet, but the quieter moments between them gave the story a surprising amount of emotion that I needed. I also really enjoyed the Ballard family and the small-town shifter world surrounding Vera and Bastien.

There were a couple of typos (fowl should be foul), but nothing that kept me from enjoying the story, especially since this was an advance copy. Overall, this was sweet, spicy, and exactly the kind of bear-shifter romance I hoped it would be! (And between us just what I needed after the crappiest Monday)

This is a standalone but the characters from the first in the series do make an appearance, but reading the first isn’t necessary to enjoy this one. I read #1 awhile back so it was like seeing old friends. 🥹

I received an advance review copy for free from the author, and I am leaving this review voluntarily! Thanks for the ARC Ami! Looking forward to #3!

Twenty-two year old near-college grad Vera is a non-shifter in a family of fox shifters who’s been infatuated with her brother’s best friend for as long as she can recall, but he turned her down flat when she was eighteen, and she’s been avoiding him ever since.

When her internship falls through, her crush Sebastien agrees to allow her to complete her two week requirement by his side, at his ranger’s station. Of all the times to go into her first heat, snowed in with the hunky bear shifter was not on Vera’s bingo card, but Bas enthusiastically helps her through her crisis. Rather than risk rejection a second time, however, Vera insists it was casual for her. Bas on the other hand, can’t stop thinking about Vera, and crashes a date between Vera and a potential hookup, where he confesses his feelings for her. Big brother is decidedly NOT happy about this turn of events, however, and the rift turns ugly, culminating in a fight just outside her mother’s hospital room.

Can Vera and Bas find a happy ever after that includes the family’s blessing? Is there more to Vera than being a non-shifter?

This was a very cute, very spicy, it’s-always-been-you, brother’s best friend shifter romance. I was generously provided an advance reader copy from the author, and I’m sharing my honest review.

I love this author’s writing and adored the character interactions and the steam and spice! This story is dual POV, well written, and a fast-paced, sweet and extra steamy, funny, brother’s best friend, size difference, forced proximity, omegaverse, contemporary fantasy romance between Vera, the female non-shifting fox shifter college student lead, and Bastien, the male bear shifter park ranger lead and her childhood crush, and her brother’s best friend. I enjoyed the mutual pining. I sympathised (and laughed at) Bastien’s concerns about his excessive size. I enjoyed his gentleness and empathised with the trauma from his parents’ behaviour in his childhood. I enjoyed Vera’s initiative, and empathised with her struggles around her mother’s chronic health condition, though I appreciated seeing this in a story, as many people are dealing with this sort of concern today. I adored the steamy/spicy intimate scenes. I enjoyed the interactions with their families and how the contrast emphasised the quality of the relationships. I enjoyed the set up for Vera’s brother’s story and I’m looking forward to that!

This is a fun, small-town taboo shifter romance. It is the second book in the Monsters of Mosswood series of interconnected standalones.

FMC Vera grew up without magic in a shifter family. When her mother was diagnosed with a chronic illness, she found comfort and companionship with her brother’s best friend, bear shifter MMC Bastian. But her childhood crush never went further than unrequited feelings. Now she’s in her last year of college, they are both all grown up, and he moves next door to her parents.

I enjoyed this book. It was kind of a sunshine/sunshine dynamic. Both MCs were cute and sweet to each other. They each had their own issues they needed to work past and were obviously blind to the other’s feelings. I liked that the story wasn’t all about the unrequited feelings, that gets resolved relatively quickly, and then other conflicts arise around them.

Overall, a really fun shifter, brother’s-best-friend romance. I’m enjoying Monsters of Mosswood and looking forward to Milked by the Bull Shifter Next Door and Second Chance with the Fox Shifter, which were both mentioned at the end of this book, with expected release dates before the end of 2026.

I've devoured enough of Ami's books to recognise her incredible gift for crafting romances that truly light a fire inside me. The heat she weaves is gut-wrenchingly spicy, and the chemistry between her characters is always off the hook, yet she never sacrifices the depth of the story to get there. Every tear-jerking moment hits hard, every character is layered with real heart, and the teasing banter along with that slow-burning tension keeps you hanging on the edge, aching for that sweet, sweet payoff.

The backstory these two share—a love so deep and enduring that Vera has always *known* it was him, loving him forever—broke something inside me in the best way. The raw tension, tangled with family dramas and secrets, had me glued to the pages until the early hours, desperate to see how their accidental mating would unfold.

And oh, Bas! Such a big, gentle giant, a true softie beneath that rugged exterior. The way he let Vera find her way to him—with just the right amount of coiled, protective energy—made my heart swell. It’s that perfect blend of strength and tenderness that made this story impossible to put down.

Oh man, this was fantastic! It was so perfect and just what I needed. We have the absolute EPITOME of a cinnamon roll MMC here; Bas is a big ole cuddly teddy bear!

Vera is the lone nonshifter in her fox shifter family, and she has had the biggest crush on her older brother's best friend since forever. She is such a great FMC, with that perfect blend of self-assurance mixed with deep-rooted insecurities that makes her so relatable.

Their fun encounter during the snowstorm creates such an interesting dynamic between them. I loved how Bas immediately stepped up to do the right thing, but I also completely understood Vera saying "no way, I'm not settling for a pity anything with you."

The story hit the sweet spot with a great balance of tension and "will-they-won't-they" drama, all woven in with the family trauma aspect. The pacing was spot on, keeping me completely immersed without a single lull.

Plus, I loved the cameo from Honey and Gryff from book one! That little heart-to-heart between Gryff and Bas was the cherry on top.

Thank you so much to Ami for the ARC! This review is given freely and all thoughts are my own.

Accidentally Mated To The Bear Shifter Next Door is an easygoing, spicy read. Like reeeeeally low angst - note, however, the TW about parent illness 💔

Omg, Bastian, a seriously big guy with an undeniably big … … heart. Can I have one too, please?

The book isn't terribly deep or emotionally gripping, it's more like the couple faces a series of challenges that are resolved one by one. I was kinda missing an overarching plot.
But then again, while it's a bit grating that the overarching plot isn't super strong, it's nice to have a low-stakes, cute story with some nice spicy time, which makes me like the book anyway 💕

This book is for you if you want a low-angst brother's best friend story - who's a bear shifter... YUM!

Vera and Bastien grew up together next door to each other and both had crushes on each other but never said anything to each other since he is her brother’s best friend. Fast forward over a decade later, she has to complete an internship with the local park ranger into order to graduate from college. And who is the park ranger? Bastien of course!

During her internship, they get snowed in at the park and she goes into a surprise heat! The forced proximity of it all causes them to realize just how much they care about each other. This is a must read! All of Ami Wright’s books should be on every monster romance lover’s TBR!

Even though there are not real trigger warnings, there are themes of chronic illness of family member, divorce, and possible domestic violence. Your mental health matters.

I’m a sucker for fated mates, so my expectations for this one were ridiculously high. Somehow, it still lived up to them.

Beyond all the “I choose the bear” jokes, this was such a fun, heartfelt read.

I really loved getting to know both main characters. They felt like real people, and I ended up just as invested in the side characters. Vera’s mom completely stole my heart. She’s warm, hopeful, and the kind of person you can’t help rooting for. I also appreciated seeing bodies that looked different than the usual perfectly sculpted romance heroes. Personally, I’ll take a soft, cuddly bear with a thick pelt every single time.

I’ve read enough of this author’s books to know she has a real talent for balancing everything I love in a romance. The chemistry is off the charts, but she never sacrifices the story to get there. Every emotional moment lands, the characters have real depth, and the banter and slow-burn tension make the payoff that much sweeter.

This was another reminder of why this author has become an auto-buy for me. I already can’t wait to see where she takes us next.

A Cozy, Spicy Shifter Romance With Plenty of Swoon

Accidentally Mated to the Bear Shifter Next Door was such a fun little shifter romance with the kind of cozy small town vibes that make you want to curl up and keep reading. There’s something extra entertaining about a fated mate situation getting completely thrown for a loop, and this one definitely had me invested.

I really liked the childhood friends to something more dynamic between Vera and Bastien. Vera had that stubborn “I know what’s best” energy while Bastien was very much giving “absolutely not, we’re doing this my way” and honestly, the back-and-forth was pretty fun. Bastien’s protective bear shifter side was exactly the kind of energy I expected, with plenty of sweet moments mixed in.

A cute, spicy, and swoony addition to the series with a possessive bear shifter, a heroine trying to make sense of an impossible situation, and a romance that delivers those warm fuzzy feelings.

Shoutout to Ami for the advanced copy, this is my honest review.

I voluntarily read and reviewed this advanced copy via the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Earlier this year, I absolutely devoured the first book in the Monsters of Mosswood series, Fake Dating the Grumpy Werewolf Next Door. I was ravenous and read it in less than a day I believe. It hit all my tropes and the couple themselves were sweetness incarnate. Her name was Honey! I loved that they made a cameo in this book. Accidentally Mated to the Bear Shifter Next Door was the sequel that didn't quite match my levels of excitement, although it was pretty close. I loved the size difference, yearning, and just Bastien as a whole for a love interest. He was the literal embodiment of a teddy bear because he straight up shifted into a grizzly. I wasn't as enamored with the heroine, but I could appreciate the pining over her brother's best friend. I've always liked that trope because all my brother's friends were hot and I can attest to the accuracy. This was a fun paranormal romance and I'm looking forward to future installments of this series. Ami Wright is a new favorite author of mine and I can't get enough of her books. Like a bear with honey, I'm on the hunt!

When your teenage crush is really your fated mate❤️

Just a breathtakingly moving, steamy as all get out, wonderful characters included story that is so endearing and compelling 🥰. Loved that it had me on the best kind of roller coaster. Vera has crushed on Bastien, her brother’s BFF for years. When he helps her out on a college internship, unforeseen events bring them a chance for forever. But not before family drama of all sorts comes into play. For me, the love and goodness of Vera’s parents and the emotional maturity of Bastien and Vera as a couple just filled my heart with joy. I will say I am not a fan of the troupe when brothers can’t just be happy for you, especially when he finds out they are mates, but Riley comes around quickly and even gets a chance of his own since his HEA story is next. Having Gyrff and Honey show up is just the total icing on the cake 🍰 I voluntarily reviewed an author provided ARC of this book.

Accidentally Mated to the Bear Shifter Next Door (Monsters of Mosswood #2)
Author: Ami Wright
Release: July 28, 2026
Genre: Monster Romance
Trope: Size Difference, fated mates, shifters, forced proximity
Ooph, can we all get a cinnamon roll bear daddy? This was such a great and spicy read. I loved Vera and Bas together. This is book 2 in the Monsters of Mosswood series and it’s nice to have both MC’s some sort of monster or shifter rather than monster/straight up human. The MMC is the one with some hang-ups and I always find this a refreshing change. The FMC still has some struggles, but we get to see them evolve together. The family dynamics are written so well down to terrible parents and overprotective siblings. We got to see what was happening with the couple from book 1- Gryff & Honey, while the series can be read standalone, you need to give G & H some love cause…they dirty.
Triggers: I don’t have any triggers and I won’t helicopter yours. Always check your triggers and be good to yourself.
I received an ARC for free from the Author, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

4.5 ⭐️’s I loved this one just a little bit more than book one! I’m such a sucker for a childhood crush come true!! 🥰 It’s been years but her feelings never changed, and he never allowed himself to go there because she’s his best friend’s little sister!

I absolutely love the comedic approach this author takes with the forbidden love aspect of these couples! Because when Riley found out about Bas and his little sister, 🦊👊🐻 I was invested!! 🍿😂

Omg, I wanted to hug Bas because his parents suck!!! 😭 It had me in tears. As well as the health issues with Vera & Riley’s mom… 🥺 It’s scary dealing with parents with medical problems. We want to fix them, but it’s never that simple. I appreciate it being so real!

Such a sweet, healing ending 😍🫶🏼🥰 Hope there is more couples out of this verse! Loved the little glimpse we get of the first couple from book one. It had me in giggles over Gryff’s attitude. 🤭

I am obsessed with this series. As with all of Ami's books she has an amazing insight into how her characters are perceived. Point in case. We have a totally lovable, growly, grumpy, and lonely shifter. On the other hand we have a female who has resigned herself to the fact that she will never be like her brother or parents.

This incredible story delves into what they believe is their life, when truth be told they have no clue. Bas and Ver have been friends for so long that neither can't see the forest for the trees. Perfume can only cover up so much and denial is a bitter pill to swallow.

Fortunately as always fate steps in with the biggest surprise, and what a whopper it is. The heat and passion that envelops Bas and Ver is 🔥🔥. Of course the intimate heated conversations they share would make anyone blush.

All in all an excellent heartwarming love story with the cutest happy ending.

This was such a fun read, and I really enjoyed the whole read! These two were such fun, and I really enjoyed getting to read their journey! I loved getting to see Vera's journey of self discovery, for magic as well as for her career! She was such a sweet character, and I adored the way she was so perfectly protective and supportive of her loved ones! And Bas was the sweetest in how he was wanted to best for Vera and her family, while growing in his own identity! His mix of sweet concern and fierce protectiveness was truly amazing to watch! I really enjoyed this story, and it absolutely deepens my love for Ami Wright's books! Overall this was just such a good time, and I can't wait to see what comes next for Mosswood! 4.5 stars; 3.75 chili peppers

Tropes:
- Shifter Romance
- Snowed In
- Toxic Family
- Hurt/Comfort

Another sweet and spicy little addition to this series!

This one had me in my feels!

I instantly adored the FMC, she’s independent and feisty … yet she has this underlying insecurity about her designation. She’s held onto this crush that has grown into something deeper, but values her friendship and keeps it to herself…well sort of.

Between the loss the MMC experienced with the spilt of his parents as a child, to the insecurities as an adult shifter and his size… this MMC is definitely in his own head… but one thing he is certain about…his mate.

There’s some family drama… and let me tell you what I was ready to fight on behalf of these two!

One thing is for certain there is no denying the chemistry between these two… lawd have mercy!

And once again this author gives us a little taste of what’s to come next for this little series… and I cannot wait!

This isn’t my first Ami Wright book and certainly won’t be my last after this.

One of my favorite things was that Bas wasn't your stereotypical ‘abs for days’ MMC. He felt refreshingly real, and that made him incredibly easy to root for.

While this is absolutely a fun and lighthearted romance, Ami Wright doesn't shy away from heavier topics. The story also explores illness and complicated family dynamics with so much heart I found myself becoming deeply invested in these characters.

The fated mates trope delivered plenty of sweet, endearing moments, but what really stood out to me was that Bas and Vera each had meaningful personal journeys outside of their romance. That made their relationship even more rewarding. This was a romance that made me smile as much as it made me care.

A huge thank you to Ami Wright for adding me to her ARC team for this one!

This was pretty cute! He’s her childhood crush but since he is her older brothers best friend he’s always seen her as a kid. After she comes home for Christmas however he sees her different. After being snowed in together over her internship he helps her through her first heat. She is a late blooming omega shifter in a family of shifters, and Bas helps her though her heat and his beast marks her as his mate. Even though he is a beta he can knot and purr only for her, because they are fated mates. This was cute but the ending was abrupt and WHERE WAS THE EPILOGUE. I needed an epilogue. Not freaking long enough, COME ON.
Ps. I HATED it when he said “look at this hairy cunt.” Gag me with a spoon.

I couldn’t put this book down from the moment it hit my inbox. I loved it so much.

The history these two share and the way Vera has always known it was him loving him forever completely captured my heart. The tension between them, along with all the family drama, had me reading late into the night, desperate to see the outcome of their accidental mating.

I loved Bas and his big, soft bear personality, and how he let Vera find her way to him with just the right amount of proactive bear energy.

It was also great getting to catch up with past characters from Mosswood, and I’m looking forward to more books set in this town. I’m especially hoping Riley gets his own story.

The spice was off the charts and the plot/dialogue was well put together. Everything flowed well. The awakening chefs kiss and the MMC got to give him credit be cause he did try to resist. Futile as it was obviously. The FMC toke a little while to get on board but once she was in she was all in. The push back wasn't overly frustrating. I also enjoyed some of the twists and turns. The way she lined it up you'd think okay I know where this is going and find out it isn't what you thought it was. Just very engaging and kept me in its grasp. Lastly I did receive this as an arc but not obligated to leave this review.

This was a fab follow-up to book one and, even better, we get some time with Gryff and Honey from that book. Those two are hot together ;P This book is about Bastien and Vera. He's her brother's bestie and she's crushed on him for years. Suddenly having an unexpected heat/forced proximity situation, things get hot pretty quickly. However, they both have each other's best interests at heart so things do not go as smoothly as you'd expect. Adding in family drama ramped up this cozy and heartwarming read. And do not think this fated mates romance lacked spice - it was definitely hot and on the feral side ;P I loved it and can't wait for the next book!
