The Amish community of Lancaster is being terrorized by barn fires. David and Malinda Beiler’s barn was the first to go. When a second Amish barn burns for suspicious reasons, the Amish grow more restless. Can Sarah, David and Malinda’s daughter, end the terror that is pulling apart their community, even as her own heart is pulled between two young men?
Fire in the Night, Book 1: Sarah observes her parents’ agony after their barn burns to the ground, apparently by an arsonist. Not only is she afraid, and wishing she could protect her parents, she’s entranced by the flirtatious Matthew Stoltzfus. He’s dating her friend Rose, but when he tenderly bandages Sarah’s hand after she burned it at the barn raising, she wonders whom he’s really interested in.
Davey’s Daughter, Book 2: Sarah thinks Ashley, whom she's met at the local farmers market, knows more about the fires than she will admit. But Sarah can't convince her to share her secrets. Should the Amish finally resort to police protection? Matthew is asking if the Amish church is the right fit for him. Will Sarah follow him if he decides to leave the community? Sarah’s mother urges her to pay more attention to handsome newcomer Lee, the hardworking Amish man who helps anyone in the community in need. How will Sarah respond to all of the forces that are pulling her in different directions?
The Witnesses, Book 3: When Sarah spots flames late one night in the widow Lydia’s barn, she refuses to let the fire win. She gets the horses out just in time, but not before a beam explodes overhead, knocking her to the ground as the barn rages in flames all around her. Gone were her lovely good looks, her life as a teacher, and perhaps the attention of the two young men who had been so drawn to her.

Linda Byler grew up Amish and is an active member of the Amish church today. Growing up, Linda Byler loved to read and write. In fact, she still does. She is well known within the Amish community as a columnist for a weekly Amish newspaper. Linda and her husband, their children and grandchildren live in central Pennsylvania.
Linda Byler writes three books in this series that grab your attention and make you want to keep reading. Ms Byler is a new author to me. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this series!
I couldn’t wait to finish one book and begin the next to find out who was going around burning barns on Amish farms. I was also eager to see if Sarah Beiler would come to her senses and get over Matthew Stolzfus whom she’s loved since she was a girl. In my opinion, Matthew was a real jerk and played with Sarah’s emotions.
Even though barn burnings are a serious matter, Sarah’s brother Levi had me chuckling at times. Levi has Downs Syndrome and some of the things that came out of his mouth were kind of funny.
You’ll want to pick up a copy of this book and meet the characters and the trials they go through. Sarah’s father is the bishop and some of the men in the church give him a hard time about the fires. He keeps preaching forgiveness and they want to get the police involved. Will the arsonist be caught? Can Bishop Beiler keep his church from going against the old way of forgiving?
The trilogy, Lancaster Burning,is beautifully written. It is clear that Linda Byler Is Amish and is able to bring picturesque detail missing from many other Amish novels. Her ability to portray the Amish as human with very real struggles and at the same time convey a deep love and respect for their lifestyle is unique. Her ability to naturally and seamlessly weave information about cleaning products, funeral arrangements, weddings, and so much more into the flow of the story is truly fascinating. The only reason I didn’t give this trilogy five stars is because individually they were cliffhangers. It took all three novels to complete the story. I began to get impatient with Sarah, for the power she allowed Matthew to have over her. Nevertheless, I wanted to keep reading to see what happened. Book 3 Took a unexpected turn and it was difficult to put down. I highly recommend this book if you’re truly interested in the Amish way of life and love a good romance.
I loved this book. I loved the descriptions of nature that made me feel like I was there. The characters were human with faults and goodness as any human. Their strong faith shone through their loving help the gave their neighbors. They often struggled as Sarah did with her obsession for Matthew, and her father did with his anger and desire for retribution when Sarah was burned. They depended on God for answers to their problems as they struggled. This book gave me a loving look into the Amish life and its trials and how they depend on their faith in God to lead them to answers and for guidance in their daily lives. I would advise anyone to read this book and enjoy its richness and superb writing.
Lancaster's Burning trilogy had a very good, solid plot. I have read many, many Amish books. They have never, ever been so graphic, violent or gory! How many catastrophes could a people of God endure?!! In addition, Ms Bylar was long winded, wordy and didactic..it was almost as if she didn't want the trilogy to end. Most readers of Amish books are quite familiar with the "Amish ways," especially the ordnung. She did not need to "spell out" each rule or tradition. Also, Ms Byler came off as very " preachy." She could have told her story in half the amount of words.
I felt it was quite drawn out and at times the scenes skipped from one to the next very quickly. I feel the emotional parts of the story was glossed over. In the first book I felt the first catastrophe overshadowed the second, and the second was way worse, but she continues to dwell on the first. I just found that weird. I found several writing typos in book two of the 2015 copyright. That kind of thing drives me crazy and makes me think the writer didn’t really re read their chapters. An ok story. I kept reading it, but wasn’t super impressed.
This book kept me interested and reading for quite a while. I love the descriptions and the detail. It was so good it had me crying at times. The only thing I didn't like is how the books kept you hanging. I kept thinking, as one book would end, thank goodness I have the trilogy.. All in all a great read!
A heart warming story and lovable and down to earth charaters. Gave me an insight into the lives of Amish people. Their care and love for God and their families. Interesting background stories of how to handle forgiveness while their houses were destroyed.
I read a lot of Christian fiction and Amish books. This was a great story, but far too many flowery adjectives and some confusing skips to next scenes. Without all of the adjectives reading would have been smoother and quicker.
I really didn't see this as 3 separate books, but instead one book. I can't see one standing alone without the others. Nevertheless, the story was great and kept one's interest until the end. I enjoyed them.
Extremely well written and leaves you wanting more
I felt like I knew each character well. Linda has an incredible gift of conveying emotions and paints a picture that has you feeling like you are there. I loved this series.
This 3 set of books was a joy to read. It opened Amish to the community. There were several barn fires and they continued. Sarah, the main character goes through many challenges and as she trusts the Lord more she begins to see happiness towards the end. This is a must read.
It was a journey following Sarah. She annoyed me at first with her tunnel vision, but I kept reading, knowing she had to get smarter- and I was so glad when she did .
It was like life ups and downs.it had action, love, drama, friendships.the love of family. How we struggle with what we want but God knows best if we listen. How we struggle with different issues but down deep we are the same we out insecurities.
It was amazing ! The characters became family ! The story line was so good. It teaches about forgiveness , family love and kindness. The story of Levi and Down syndrome was amazing ! I laughed and I cried
Well developed and well written. Author explores several themes: trials, forgiveness, adulthood. Sweet story; heart-warning . A reminder of Amish values.
This was a great book,at one was I was ready to kick sarah because she refused to see Matthew as he truly was. It is a edge of the seat book waiting to see who was setting the fires.
Enjoy these book immensely. They were suspenseful, emotional and funny at same time. Characters became your friends, your family and you felt their struggles. A must read!
I got this a trilogy while the storyline may be a good one i struggle to get in to this i gave up on chapter 11 of the first book i found it far too long drawn out you have pages of description which in the end i was skipping over I went to the last book to see who had set the fires & i don't think they been mention by chapter 11 of the first book & even the last chapter or two of the last book tended to be given over to pages & pages of description of an event i won't say want as some may wish to read this series & do not wish to spoil it for you I think from what i did read the 3 book could have been condensed down to a one book story
Another great book!! Love her books: To beginning to end. Sarah and her Family is wonderful :). Your going love them. The terrorized by barn fires. Through the book made me feel sorry for the community going through this. Why! Is this person doing this to them. The sad part when another tragedy happens in Sarah's family. This Matthew that Sarah has eyes on for a very long time. Matthew got under my skin. He is so selfish . Sarah meets a English girl name Ashley. I feel so sorry for Ashley. Sarah cares about her. Just the greatest book to read. I don't write reviews right.
