I'm Colleen Masters, author of the Faster Series. Thank you so much for swinging by and checking out my stories! As an indie romance author, your support means everything to me. Let me tell you a little bit about myself...
I grew up in Central Jersey, and studied Theatre Arts and English at Monmouth University. (Going to college right next to the beach? Hell yes :D) My dream has always been to make a profession out of writing, so I moved to NYC five years ago and have been working my butt off to make that dream come true ever since. Right now, I'm living on the Upper East Side with my darling fiancé and our corgi, Frodo. (Bit of a lit nerd, what can I say?) All of my friends get such a kick out of my "survival job," but I don't really see my writing as a day job at all--it's way too fun for that!
These books are truly a labor of love, and I'm so happy to share them with you. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed writing them!
This is the first book I 've read of colleen masters an it was good the story is about twin sisters Callie an Avery an there best friend Jackson Cole who Callie had a huge crush on Callie moved away nearly 10 yrs ago when she had a fight with her parents she had plan on moving away 2 college anyway she hated where she was from an the things that happened didn't help Callie was is a freelance writer an when she was lookin through her daily blogs she got a shock when she saw that her twin sister had die of an overdose she was totally shocked but she knew things weren't great with Avery but she thought she would b ok with Jack by her side lookin out 4 her an they were engaged after al Callie hadn't seen Avery in a long time but they did talk but she hadn't seen Jack who is now a well known actor she knew he would b it's what he alway wanted 2 b yrs ago callies parents r just total arseholes I m sorry they just are she wasn't lookin 4ward 2 seein them at al When she sure Jack at Avery funeral the feelings she had 4 him came rush in back he had grown in a really good way Jack was alway super sexy but know he is just super super super sexy an gorgeous Jack as a lot 2 tell Callie about the relationship between Avery an himself an he also had a huge favour 2 ask
I thought this book was good but I found that the story was a lil dark in places but that is my own personal opinion it was writen really but it made quite sad that a lot of the book was sad an not a lot of it was happy I did like the characters an the chemistry between Jack an Callie was amazin an I luv them 2gether I did find the ending a lil quick I just wanted 2 know more about Jack an Callie after everything that happened xxx
I found this book to be quite enjoyable! This had everything I didn’t know I was looking for in a book. It had characters with a past connection, great chemistry, a hot actor…I couldn’t put it down.
I loved seeing Jack and Callie reconnect after suffering a horrible loss. And I couldn’t wait for the scandal that would happen after they got together.
I thought it was interesting that Callie was able to step into the roll that Avery (her twin sister) hadn’t even started filming before she died. I don’t know why but I just expected that they would recast seeing as Avery hadn’t filmed even one scene. Since Jack had the pull to get Callie cast in her sister’s place, I was a little surprised that the movie studio dismissed him so easily later.
I really hated Callie and Avery’s parents. I wish something had happened to them, that they were disgraced or something. They seemed to get off scot-free. And don’t get me started about their dad’s business partner. I was really hoping that when Callie and Jack went public near the end that the business partner would be outed as a creep and get in trouble. I was glad that the head of the studio and the director both got in trouble. But I wish all the bad guys had had a comeuppance. I was also slightly disappointed that the movie was shelved, apparently permanently. I would have liked to see Jack and Callie get their jobs back and a new director hired to finish the movie.
But overall, I really enjoyed the story between Callie and Jack. The flashbacks to them as teenagers really helped developed the connection between them.
I can’t wait to read the next book by Colleen Masters. :)
Another great read by Colleen Masters. I've never read anything of hers that I didn't enjoy! Callie and Avery are twin sisters who grew up hanging out with Jack. Callie always had a secret crush on jack, but felt like Avery was really the one Jack wanted so she never made her feelings known. When she was 18 Callie had a huge falling out with her parents and left. She moved out on her own and stopped having anything to do with anyone from back home, including her sister and her lifelong friend Jack. As the years pass Callie keeps track of Jack's life from afar and sees him move to Hollywood to be the actor he always wanted to be. Avery moved out there with him and they became engaged. Even after all this time, that was still hurtful for Callie. One morning Callie finds out that her sister has died of a drug overdose, so she is forced to go home and face her family and Jack both. She can't help but still have feelings for Jack, even though she feels like a monster for feeling that way about her dead sister's fiance. But are things exactly as they seem from the outside? Was Jack really romantically involved with Avery, or was he just trying to be a good friend and protect her from her own self destructive behavior? And what does that mean about any possibility of a future between Callie and Jack? This was a completely unique storyline and was full of unexpected twists and turns along the way. Jack easily goes from being the best kind of friend you could ever want, to being the best boyfriend/lover you could ever want. Everyone needs someone who will love and fight for and protect them like Jack does for BOTH Avery and Callie.
Callie and Avery are twin sisters. Callie has always wanted to be an actress but she stepped away from her dream early in order to allow her sister to have a shot at an acting career. She moves away from her family and tries to start a new life. Years later, the tragic news of her sister's death shock her to the core. Avery always had a substance addiction and that addiction was her downfall. Callie is forced to return to her family for the memorial and that is when the past comes back to torture her. Jackson Cole is a rising actor and her dead sister's fiancé. He is also Callie's crush since forever; since they were teenagers. When she sees him, old flames are rekindled and when he comes to her with an offer she cannot refuse, hearts are broken. Jackson offers her an opportunity; he wants her in his new movie. He wants her to replace her sister Avery. When Callie is faced with the choice of fame, she is conflicted. She doesn't want to disgrace her sister's memory but at the same time she desperately wants the chance at acting. She agrees and this is where it all starts....Secrets resurface, emotions are revealed and her sister's true death cause drops as a bomb on both Jackson and us, the readers.
This is the third Colleen Masters book I've had the pleasure of reading and I have to say that I loved it!!! A total page turner. I loved every minute of it. I fell in love with Callie. What a great heroine!!! I totally recommend it if you want a moving and fun read!
5 Stars from me!!!!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I love Colleens writing style but this one felt a bit off to me. Callie was a likeable character. I loved her devotion to her sister and that she put others before herself. What I couldn't get my head around was the lack of grieving. It didn't feel like she grieved for Avery at all even though there relationship had drifted. The connection with Jackson was good, storyline somewhat far fetched (Especially the last chapter), but it did keep me interested.
I'm not sure really, I just didn't live this at all and felt it was a 3.5 at best.
KINDLY PROVIDED WITH AN ARC BY THE AUTHOR FOR AN HONEST REVIEW....here goes
Considering there are currently quite a few books out at the moment try to tempt us into reading about either taboo or forbidden love affairs. I think Colleen certainly cornered the market on the idea of an in-law love affair. Well he was a fiance....technicalities people !!
You really need to give this book a whirl. Colleen is a damn good writer. Her books have great paced story lines, the right amount of drama, angst and let us not forget what us readers who claim our "book boyfriends" through.....smokin' hot sex scenes. Well I think we can put one big ole CHECK to all of the above.
The story is about Jack and Callie. Its not your atypical guy meets girl story. There is a little added spanner in the mix !. The beauty of this book, was its a standalone. No wanting to volley your kindle across the room at the end !! And it has a HEA. Oh yeah, totally the best kind of books for me.
So, without further a do. I would recommend you get on amazon or kobo and give this book a go.
4 I wanna be in that film too stars from me.
Thank you Colleen for this opportunity and well done xxx Later peeps xx
This was my first Colleen Masters book. It is a friends-to-lovers story. I thought it was a great read. I love Callie and Jack. I love the fact that Callie is feisty and determined. I also love the fact that Jack is sweet and kind, but has a bad boy side to him too. They have awesome chemistry. I was happy when . I thought there could have been more about Callie and Avery's parents after she left the house after Avery's funeral.
I don't know why, but this book bored me to tears. No thrill, very predictable, even the sizzle barely sparked. Colleen Masters is one of my favorite authors, but this is not one of her best works.
This is my first book by Colleen Masters but it won't be my last. . I really enjoyed Callie and Jack's story. My emotions were all over the place! Thank you for a great read!!
I wanted to read something kind and sweet before sleeping. That was pretty far from it. Pretty dark and pretty wreck. It leave me with some kind of unsatisfaction; i don't like the end, really! Where is justice for the little children they once was? hein!
I found this book to be quite enjoyable! This had everything I didn’t know I was looking for in a book. It had characters with a past connection, great chemistry, a hot actor…I couldn’t put it down.

I can’t wait to read the next book by Colleen Masters. :)
This was a really great book. Calista Benson, who goes by Callie, finds out through the media that her twin sister is dead. Calista and Avery grew up in a privileged family but they were mistreated terribly by their parents and their parents' friends. They were best friends with Jackson Cole who had a very similar childhood. At the age of 18, Callie can't take it anymore and leaves her life and family. Due to it all, she lost contact with her sister and Jackson.
Callie is a very strong and independent woman. For her own well being she had to leave her old life behind and her family to go with it. Callie loved her twin sister and did everything she could to protect her while they were together but Avery wasn't strong enough to leave. Avery was molested for years by a family friend and business partner and her parents weren't willing to believe or give credence to their children. So Callie went off to college and tried to make it as an actress and/or screenwriter. She lives in a small town and in a small apartment just trying to find some peace and happiness. She loved Jackson Cole for years and wanted to be with him but didn't want to risk her friendship with him. She's heartbroken and has guilt for her sister's death and all the years they missed together.
Jackson grew up in privilege as well and was the closest with the Benson girls. One was his best friend and one was the girl he loved. He's become a major movie star and very popular. Before Avery's death, he was in a major movie with her and was engaged to her. For years he did everything he could to protect and take care of Avery. She was his best friend and he wanted to help her any way he could. He did everything he could to keep her from destroying herself but he just wasn't capable in the end. Callie was the girl he loved but due to everything that happened they grew apart.
I went into this story expecting something much more different than what I got but that's fine. Because I got so, so much more. This book was so much more than I thought it would be and that's just freaking great.
It wasn't fast paced. Everything happened in time and it never once felt rushed. There was an actual plot that was so perfectly written out. It never felt faked or forced- and with stories like this, it often does. The characters didn't fall flat and Callie, the heroine actually had a backbone and she never let anyone treat her like she was less than what she was. She didn't back down even when it would've been convenient for her. She stood her ground and she was a fucking bad ass for it.
Jack, the hero in the storywas a little bit of everything. He was rough around the edges at time but he was also very sweet with Callie. He would get mad and throw shit but he could also be this huge dork who made funny jokes and innuendos. Even the asshole characters in this story were so well written I felt like I knew everyone.
The story flowed so smoothly and when things were coming to an end, everything clicked and made sense and it left me with my jaw on the ground because there were things that I saw coming but I never imagined what was truly going on. Everything was well put together and the relationship between Callie and Jack was so sweet- I loved them together and I thought they balanced each other out well.
I went into reading this thinking that it was going to be a quick story filled with hot scenes but it was so much more than that and I am so happy about it.
A very good if not at times heartbreaking story line
This book is a very sexy read without being to over the top raunchy... this is definitely a book where the dynamics of all characters really impressed me and was not your run of the mill love story... the sexual chemistry of the book was amazing no dry spells and I love the character Calista aka Callie the character is torn between the love/ a lil jealousy of her sister (which makes her more human ) the real life struggle of being a twin who comes from money, ignorant parents with no concern or care for their children not believing the harm they keep allowing to happen and refuse to acknowledge as truth right under their nose , a society that is quick to overlook the monsters for the sake of keeping face and name, the twin who is in a downward self destruct spiral of despair but is too weak to save herself out of fear, the best friend if the twin sister who tries to do everything in to save her bc he secretly in love with the other twin for her. That both of these characters come from money and both refuse the help an money of their parents and make a life pursuing their own dreams on their on and making it happen. Dealing w I th the death of the sister / best friend and calorie finally being able to avenge her sister and putting the monsters down for good... and did I mention the sexual build-up leading to main characters hookup and love story ending was absolutely sizzling ... lol I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it that I read this book from front to cover in a matter of hours..so that being said and ending my own little novel review. This book is worth the read!!!!!!!!!
Callie Benson has known now movie star Jackson Cole most of her life, long before he became a celebrity. They share a common background and a common interest in her twin sister, Avery. Estranged for several years, Callie and Jack are reunited under the circumstances of Avery’s tragic death.
The premise was original, and I liked both Callie and Jack as characters. Callie is independent, down-to-earth, and able to stand on her own two feet. It was nice to see a heroine presented with brains and integrity. She also didn’t weep or fall apart when the going got tough. Told from Callie’s point of view, readers get a little better feel for her character over Jack’s, but he’s still presented as a likeable romantic hero, and it was refreshing that Jack, thought hinted at being a ladies man, didn’t fall into the stereotypical celebrity man-whore role.
For the first two-thirds of the book, the background of the characters is divulged while their current relationship builds. There is no insta-love or insta-lust with Callie and Jack; these two have a history. Then as the book nears its climax, the drama really explodes. It’s not angsty or overdone though, which is always a plus, but it’s full of excitement that ends on a high note.
The “forbidden” aspect of their relationship is really more a perception than reality. To me, their feelings for each other never felt taboo. But the “forbidden” part does serve up a page-turning quality as part of the climax that I enjoyed reading as it unfolded.

Great fast and easy read!!! Twin sisters Callie an Avery and their best friend Jackson are inseparable and he just so happens to be Callie's biggest crush. A rough altercation with her parents causes Callie to move away and leave behind her twin sister and her best friend. It came as a shocker to find out her own twin sister had died of an overdose, 10 years have passed since she has last seen or spoken with her parents or Jackson even her sister and she must make the difficult choice to go and pay her respects. She didn't realize Avery was doing so bad she figured with Jack by her side her "fiancé" everything was going great. When she finally sees Jack for the first time at the funeral she is taken aback by the feelings he stirs up in her by his mere presence. As things are calming down Jack finally comes to ask for her help in the movie role her sister was working on. The catch is she must take on this role as soon as possible she never realized her dreams would ever come true, she figured the only star of the family would always be her sister now she has the opportunity to act and be by Jacks side. Things are moving so fast and yet trouble is never far behind. Her past with her parents still haunts her and Jack, revelations take place, sizzling encounters and horrible events that will either break or make Callie and Jackson. Will they ever find their happily ever after?
Heartbreaking tragedy, corporate greed, emotional scars, and finally justice and love; what was not to like? Despite an upper society upbringing life has not been easy for Callie Benson or her childhood best friend Jackson (Jack) Cole; both suffer scars from years of physical and emotional abuse. Besides growing up together they share a deep affection for Callie’s twin sister Avery, putting her before their own desires and hiding a deep crush for each other. It’s been eight years since Callie has had any contact with her family or Jack, who is now engaged to her sister and on the way to being a huge star in LA, when she sees on the news that her sister is dead. She returns home for the memorial service and comes face to face with Jack and all her old feelings hit with a vengeance. They talk and he asks her to take her sister’s place in his current film, as his love interest. She does, but has mixed emotions about it and Jack, but the chemistry on set is undeniable. Through the tragedy of Avery’s loss they get to know each other again and secrets are revealed about each other and Avery that make them both realize they have to change. I would highly recommend this book; I’ve read several of Ms. Masters’ books and have yet to be disappointed! I was engrossed in the story, couldn’t put it down; I laughed, cried and cheered for these characters from beginning to end.
Colleen Masters is a new author to me and I was drawn by the synopsis of Damaged In-Law.
Callie didn’t once turn back when she left after high school ended. The only person she regrets leaving behind was Jackson Cole who she had a huge crush on. Too bad he wasn’t enough to have her stick around. When she got in her car and drove away she vowed to never return to the place that caused her so much pain.
Since then, Callie's been on her own, but when she receives an unexpected call that her sister, Avery has died because of a drug overdose, she knew it was time to face the music.
Little did she know that she would take her sisters place in the film with her dead sister’s fiancé, sex scenes and all. Will Callie handle the pressure of acting with Jackson or will she run once again?
Damaged In-Law was a bit challenging for me to get into during the beginning and when I met Jackson I felt like he wasn’t exactly “grieving” over his dead fiancé. However, after getting the funeral and grieving process over, the chemistry and passion displayed between Callie and Jackson was off the charts. Callie has grown a bit of a backbone since high school and I enjoyed seeing her bloom even more into her skin. Overall, I felt like the book was filled with the right amount of drama, angst and hot sexy scenes!
I am not saying this book was bad because it was not, but it just didn't work for me. Both of the Characters did not do it for me. I understand the reason why Callie left, her parents are worthless and her sister Avery she did not want to be helped and sometimes there is nothing you can do abaout that so packing up and leaving I get that. But to cut all contact for no other reason is just beyond me. If she really cared about her sisters well being she would have picked up a phone and not look in some tabloids or on the tv and blogs. Jack I did not understand him either. He cared about Avery and Callie and when he moved he saw Callie after years in Hamlet and he went to see the play, but does he say hello? No he never even tells her until after Avery dies. I would have loved to have had a little insight in Jack and Avery's relations. He wanted to marry Avery to keep her in line, get her on the right track how would Marriage have worked for that? Would he demand she stay home and get rid of the wrong crowd? For me it did just not add up. Also I did not feel the emotion of losing Avery with both of them sure her name was mentioned but real emotion like they cared no. It was a fast read for me but that was what is was a fast read.
Callie and Avery are identical twins, living in the lap of luxury with two uptight parents, who care more about appearances than their daughters.
Jackson is their childhood friend, always looking out for them, and the guy that Callie has been in love with for years. However, the path of true love is definitely paved with missed opportunities and untenable circumstances.
At the beginning of the story, we find Callie dealing with the loss of her sister, who she hasn’t seen in years. At Avery’s funeral service, Callie comes face to face with Jackson, who became her sister’s fiancé, for the first time in eight years, and all her old feelings come surging to the surface.
The story moves back and forth between the present and past, and the twin sisters’ unhappy history is revealed, leading up to the time when Callie leaves everything she knows behind, to start a new, independent life on her own.
I loved the chemistry between Callie and Jack, and I loved Callie’s strong, sassy character. A great sexy story about love, sacrifice and second chances, with a very serious thread running through it.
I have read several books by Colleen Masters and they are pretty fast paced and mostly fun reads, with some elements of family drama and sort of illicit romance. In this one, it's twin sisters who both have had a relationship with the same childhood friend...one is "engaged" to him and the other watches from a distance feeling no hope that he would ever have looked at her as more than a friend. When one sister dies, the other is thrown into a new found friendship with him and is offered the chance of a lifetime to fulfill a dream she has had since she was in high school. The movie biz, rumors, casting couch ugliness and secrets and lies from the past all make up this very different book and for the most part it worked. Things get pretty intense...sexy, steamy and then violent and unexpected...until the final conclusion of the story which is a triumphant victory against all the unscrupulous slimeballs in the entertainment industry. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I was given this book for an honest review. Avery and Calista, twins, grew up in a household where fortune and fame were more important to their patents than them. Avery being the good-girl in her parents eyes, always kept things the way they wanted because she was scared to be on her own. Calista always was one who spoke her mind whenever she felt she had too. After an incident, where their patents would not believe their side, Calista aka Callie, decided it was time to break free and leave her life their behind. While Avery didn't feel she could leave, Callie ended up leaving on her own. She left behind her sister, her very good friend Jackson, who she also had a big-time crush on, and her family. She started from scratch. She was making a good life for herself, until one day she opened her laptop to find some horrific news, taking her back to her childhood home. From this point forward her life would forever be changed. As the saying goes, everything happens for a reason.
This was one of those in-law books that I was so leery about because they seem to be everywhere but I felt this worked for me. It’s not your typical story because Callie and Jackson were not related.
Callie had left home at a young age and was faced with returning home when her sister Avery overdoses and she goes home for the funeral. She knew that going home she would run into Jackson, her longtime crush and big movie star, but she knew he was with Avery.
When Jackson confronts Callie into taking Avery’s place in his current movie, she is thrust into the spotlight and having to see Jackson everyday which certainly wasn’t a hardship at all.
The sparks do fly and I loved seeing how they seemed to have that instant connection right from the start. As much as she tries to deny it since he was her sister’s fiancé, as soon as they hit the set all bets are off. Jackson and Callie really make the perfect couple and I like how this book worked out.
Callie has been in love with her childhood friend for almost of her life. Things never seemed to line of for them to actually take the plunge and become a couple but then again Callie was never sure how Jackson felt about her. Now a tragedy has brought them back together and Callie is given an opportunity of a life time. Callie takes Jackson up on his proposal but not for the money but to see where things will go with them. Callie still has no idea how Jackson feels about her but he finally lays it on the line. They are excited to finally explore their feelings but it comes with a price. Things go from blissful to ugly in the flash of a moment. Now will these two come out of the fire unscathed. When your intentions are pure at heart what can go wrong. The sex scenes were hot- nothing too detailed. Fantastic ending.
Colleen Masters does it again. I just can’t walk away from her books. Callie walks away from her family’s money, her twin and her best friend Jackson one night when she can’t take anymore of her parents neglect. Ten years later she is struggling to make money and make it on her own when she receives the devastating news that her sister has died from a drug overdose. At the funeral Jackson lets her know that he needs to speak with her privately and to meet him at his hotel after the funeral. Let the adventures begin.. The book goes between the present and the past and while I normally get irritated with that, this time it flowed really smooth. Well written, great character development, and when these two characters come together have a fan on because it gets really HOT!! Loved it and would recommend it to everyone who likes romance, steamy sex and a taste of an alpha male….
Avery, Callie, and Jack have all know each other since they were five. Even though their parents have money, Callie and Avery's home life is anything but stellar. At 18, Callie runs out her family home and out of everyone's life. At 25 (almost 26), she lives alone in a small apartment. One morning while reading Hollywood gossip she learns that her twin sister has dies. She hasn't been home since she left. She gathers her things and heads back home.
This story is in Callie's POV. It's a great imaginative story. I do find the title of the book interesting since at no time was anyone an "in-law". I loved how Callie stood up for herself and did what she needed to do at the end. It was quite empowering. If you like Colleen Masters then you have to read this book.
