What happens when a vigilante serial killer climbs in through your bedroom window?

Hazel
I never really considered what I’d be doing the first time I met a serial killer but if I had, it wouldn’t have been dancing around my bedroom in nothing but my nightshirt.
‘Move in next to a secure psychiatric prison’, they said. ‘No one will ever break out’, they said. Tell that to America’s most dangerous vigilante who’s currently standing in my lilac themed bedroom.
Except Flynn is about as far from how I imagine a serial killer to be as possible. He’s funny, protective and it’s only when he touches me that his darker side comes out to play. And maybe working as a 911 operator has messed me up because that Flynn, he doesn’t scare me, he enthralls me.

Flynn
The last thing I expected when I broke out of the insane asylum was to face off with a five-foot-nothing woman wielding a vibrator wand.
I have one last monster to hunt. I don’t have time to obsess over sweet-as-pie Hazel Halloway. But my little lilac is a fixation I can’t shake, and it turns out Hazel’s past leads right back to the monster I’m hunting.
It's not long before that man turns his sights on her, but I fell for Hazel the second I climbed through her bedroom window, and here’s the thing about morally black men, no one hurts the people we love.

Choked in Love is an M/F dark rom com set in the Of Mine universe. It features on the page spice, darker moments and one possessive, over protective MMC. It is book one in the Stalked Love series, an interconnected trilogy, but can be read as a standalone. Please read the content warnings.

✨ARC Book Review✨

Imagine a story that starts with a serial killer breaking into your house… and somehow you end up making him hot cocoa. Talk about the most unhinged meet cute 😂👏🏻

Hazel and Flynn meet by chance and end up having an interesting, completely unexpected night together while he’s hiding out after escaping from prison. He leaves totally obsessed with her, and she’s left questioning her life choices!

I absolutely loved Flynn. Yes, he’s a killer with psychopathic tendencies, like a lack of traditional emotions, but you can’t help loving the way he takes care of Hazel. Even she admits I know he’s stalking me, but I just feel cared for 🥹💕 Besides his romance with Hazel, he’s also on a mission to kill everyone involved in his sister’s assault. The way their romance intertwined with his dangerous lifestyle was so entertaining.

I could totally relate to Hazel. She’s constantly torn between falling for Flynn and remembering that he’s a cold blooded killer. I understand why she fell for him… he’s funny, charming, and protective of her. I actually liked she didn’t always listen to him even thought he’s a legit serial killer 😂

I enjoyed the slow burn intimate scenes. Once they crossed the line Flynn was so hot and obviously obsessive! Their chemistry was unmatched. He’s a total dom and talks so dirty… I was not mad at it!

I thought the ending was well done with everything wrapped up nicely. It’s definitely a fun read if you like obsessive morally gray MMCs.

ARC REVIEW

How does Alexis Grace manage to make a serial killer breaking into someone’s house feel like the start of the most chaotic rom-com ever? Because somehow… it works. And I ate it up.

Flynn is absolutely unhinged in the best possible way. He’s a sociopath, an escaped convict, a stalker… and somehow also the sweetest, most protective guy when it comes to Hazel. The math isn’t mathing, but I wasn’t about to question it. His “future wife” energy after barely knowing her had me laughing every single time.

Hazel was such a fun main character because she never stopped questioning her own sanity. She knows Flynn is dangerous, she knows falling for him is a terrible idea, yet you completely understand why she does. Their dynamic was hilarious, full of banter, awkward situations, and internal monologues that genuinely made me laugh out loud.

What I loved most was that this wasn’t just a romance. Flynn’s mission for revenge added suspense throughout the story, and Hazel’s struggle between right and wrong gave the book more depth than I expected. Nothing ever felt black and white, which made the story even more interesting.

The romance was definitely a slow burn, but once things finally took off… the chemistry was worth the wait. Flynn’s obsessive devotion combined with Hazel’s sweetness was such a fun contrast.

The side characters were another highlight. I loved the friendships, Flynn’s relationship with his brother, and I’m already excited to see where the next book goes because some characters definitely deserve their own story.

If you’re looking for a dark rom-com that’s equal parts chaotic, funny, suspenseful, and ridiculously entertaining, this one absolutely delivers. I had so much fun with it and flew through it in no time.

💜₊˚ෆ💜ෆ˚₊✨ ♡ THOUGHTS ♡ ✨₊˚ෆ💜ෆ˚₊💜

“I know technically what he's doing is stalking, but I don't feel violated. I feel cared for.”

Hazel deserves all the love, and so does he! I love them BAD. From the moment he saw her dancing in her room, he was head over heels and ALL IN obsessed. I love a man that knows what he wants! 😮‍💨🤭 Flynn is the epitome of man obsessed. He's so endearing too. Hazel being conflicted and struggling with her morals, feeling frustrated that she wanted him but couldn't fathom loving a serial killer while also not wanting to turn him in. THIS WAS TOO GOOD.

I understood where she was coming from. Though it was a little frustrating, it made sense, especially as someone who lost her parents when she was young because they were murdered. To her, it felt like a betrayal because she couldn't love him without feeling guilty. I loved how much Wright and Livi supported her and reassured her that they had never seen her so happy before and that Flynn was good for her. It only felt hypocritical when she could rationalize her best friends committing vigilante crimes for the same reason but couldn't get behind Flynn doing it for his sister. It was the same thing!!! She went through several guilt filled monologues, and that was the main thing plaguing her. Wright and Livi were a vigilante duo, and Flynn was getting justice for his sister (so what is the issue). She needed to get with the program quicker. Still, she had a normal human reaction, and she was logical about it and what it meant for her to be involved in all of this. In the end, she chose Canada with Flynn 😁💖. AS SHE SHOULD!!! I would too.

✨ He ordered her an alarm system so she could be protected and not careless about her safety (since he got in easily).
✨ He broke in and made sure she had groceries.
✨ He watched her on the cameras and made sure she went back inside to put a coat on.
✨ He's a virgin, so he did research by reading romance books and a biology book (courtesy of Lachlan).
✨ He always has a corny joke to tell!!!

Flynn is the best!!! I have no complaints. Despite not understanding emotions well, he was very self aware and felt deeply for Hazel. He clocked what he was feeling almost immediately. He was amused when she made him terrible hot chocolate and they watched Friends together 🥹. This was Day 1!!! I need more books with these vibes. It was so fun but tragic all the same. I wish he would have found out that Hazel had a crush on Flynn Rider since she was a kid. The coincidence of them having the same name would've been so cute. Still, he absolutely carried, and I loved how he never let Hazel push him away, but when he did let her go, it was because he respected her wishes.

“What does a knife say when you're running late?” he murmurs. I half laugh, half sob as I open my eyes to see Flynn's beautiful face smiling at me.

“I don't know. What does a knife say when you're running late?”

Flynn grins down at me, looking tired but alive. “Chop, chop.”

Flynn is naturally HILARIOUS 😭 I audibly laughed out loud plenty of times because of his corny jokes. It's totally fair that Hazel fell for him despite struggling to fathom the crimes he committed. To be clear, he was entirely valid in what he did, and he was not a bad person. He did not feel guilty for what he did, and at the end of the day, he shouldn't have. He was avenging the one person who had never thought anything was wrong with him. I wish we had gotten to see Hope alive 🥲 Her ending is too sad, but I'm glad that he got rid of those who wronged her in the worst of ways.

“I've never met someone who makes me feel so much. You smile and I feel happy. You laugh and it's like I've won gold. You fight me and…” His voice drops low, his gaze turning hooded. “You don't want to know what goes through my mind when you fight me, Lilac.”

A REAL YEARNER. This man never knew what love was, but it clicked when he was with Hazel. Even Lachlan saw how different he was and how his life just revolved around her now. He was plenty distracted, but he worried so much about her safety and wanted to keep an eye on her at all times. He was protective and possessive, but only because he wanted her wrapped in a little bubble where no harm could get to her. He also just wanted to see her happy and never afraid of him.

💜₊˚ෆ💜ෆ˚₊✨ ♡ OVERALL ♡ ✨₊˚ෆ💜ෆ˚₊💜

I will definitely be rereading this in the near future, especially if I'm ever in a reading slump. I read this so fast and genuinely had so much fun. They are the type of couple that are entertaining because of the banter and the struggle of battling with their morals 😁😮‍💨. Hazel, I get you, girl. She does love morally grey men, and that's okay. He's a good person!!!! 🙂💖🩷🙂‍↕️ I can't wait to read about Wright and Lachlan.

I had also clocked that Derek was the true villain and was still gagged. I wish her parents' deaths had been legitimately solved. She deserved closure on that end, and I really thought it was going to be connected to this in some way.

I can confidently say I’ve never been so torn on a review before. 😅 Overall, I did enjoy this book. A vigilante serial killer escaping a psychiatric prison and breaking into a 911 operator’s house? Immediate hook.
But it didn’t take long for me to start cringing at the romance.

On one hand, I understand Flynn’s instant obsession. He’s a sociopath, and Hazel’s calming presence eases the constant “pressure” in his head. On the other hand, their relationship felt way too insta-love for me. I just needed more development before I could fully buy into it.
Hazel also frustrated me quite a bit. She spends the entire book wrestling with her moral compass and her feelings for Flynn, yet continuously throws herself into ridiculously dangerous situations—even after learning exactly why he’s killing people. Girl… please.

And can we talk about the hand necklaces? 😅 I know they’re supposed to be symbolic and tied into the romance, but considering strangulation is literally his preferred killing method, it was a little hard for me to get behind her being completely okay with it. Maybe let’s wait to let the serial killer choke you until you’ve known him for more than five minutes.

That said, the plot itself was genuinely intriguing and honestly the reason I kept turning the pages. The mystery and suspense elements were strong enough to keep me invested even when the romance wasn’t working for me.
Unfortunately, the spice also felt a bit forced. The first scene went from 0 to 100 so quickly that it gave me whiplash, and not in a good way. It often felt like spicy moments were inserted because they needed to be there rather than because they naturally fit the story.

I’ve read all of Alexis Grace’s previous books and loved them, which honestly makes this one a little disappointing for me. Her writing is still incredibly engaging, but the characters and romance just felt slightly off this time around.

Overall, if you enjoy morally black MMCs, vigilante serial killers, and dark rom-com vibes, this one may still work for you. Unfortunately, the romance just didn’t fully land for me.

"Choked in Love" by Alexis Grace is a quirky, interesting dark stalker romance that made me laugh frequently. Flynn (MMC), a ser1al k1ller who has just broken out of the secure institution where he was being held, and Hazel (FMC), a 911 operator, meet when he crawls through her window when the police are looking for him. There is clearly an instant connection between the two of them, much to Hazel's chagrin and especially for Flynn. Flynn quickly becomes obsessed with Hazel... and with watching her. His obsession is.... sort of sweet, though??? Like he is devoted to her and only her?? He does stuff like buying her a security camera system so she can stay safe, but then he also uses it to watch her?! He *is* an escaped convicted convict, so he's got to be a little bit crazy!?! Ahhh, the conflicted feelings! Hazel's running commentary of her life, her inner monologue, made me laugh a lot, but some of it was a teensy bit cringe. She also makes some truly baffling decisions at times, decisions that took me out of the story on occasion. There is a great deal of inside jokes and banter between Flynn and Hazel, too, and for the most part, I laughed at their silliness together. The romance here is a slow burn, but I think it's worth the wait. Their chemistry is really good! There is a lot more than meets the eye for the two of them as they have both gone through things that have shaped who they are and how they react to the situation they find themselves in. Flynn's got a lot of deep-seated trauma involving his sister. That whole storyline was quite compelling. I'd say this blends the suspense and the romance well! I was glad to see this was a dual POV; I think this particular story needed both of their points of view to be successful. If I had one complaint, I'd say it might have been a touch too long? All in all, though, this was a good one!

Thank you to Alexis Grace and Luna Literary for the complimentary ARC of this book. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this review.

A dark stalker romcom between a sociopathic vigilante who just escaped the psych ward and the 911 operator whose bedroom he's suddenly standing in? Say less, ma'am ☠️

First of all, a huge thank you to the author and Luna Literacy for sending me an early copy of this book and trusting me with her work. If Alexis writes it, I'm reading it - it's that simple. Which is why I'm beyond happy to say that, once again, we're being fed humorous banter, burning tension 🌶️, and just the right amount of seriousness and suspense the heavier topics require.

Alexis hits the nail on the head EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. - whether it's with her characters, the plot, or her immersive writing. She never fails to deliver.
(also, bring back chapter titles)

How do we like our men? That's right - obsessed with their woman. And Flynn Fletcher is exactly that: completely smitten with Hazel Halloway from the very first time he lays eyes on her. Naturally, that made me especially obsessed with his povs. They had me grinning from ear to ear and kicking my feet more often than not.

But Flynn wouldn't be obsessed with Hazel if she weren't the absolute sweetheart that she is. She's kind, has a good heart, and is also a teeny tiny bit crazy? I mean, she falls in love with her stalker… Hazel, get it, girlie 💅🏼 Because same. Honestly, she's better than me - I would've been on board with Flynn's plan from the very beginning. He's a good man, Hazel!!

Apart from our main couple, there were also some intriguing side characters, each with their own quirks and enough depth to make the reader genuinely care for them. Getting a Carmen cameo was also such a fun surprise.

The plot is very central with dark twists and turns we've come to expect from Alexis' books. Definitely check the trigger warnings before diving into Choked in Love.

Give me Lachlan and Wright's book right this second, I'm begging you 🫠

——ARC REVIEW——

What would you do if you were dancing in your Jammies and turned around to see an escaped convict from the psych ward next door in your room? Fall in love, duh.

Hazel’s struggle with Flynn being a killer was both amusing and frustrating which I think was the intent because it was her own feelings too. Flynn’s cheesy jokes were so bad 😂 like dad joke level bad. Not at all what you’d expect from a convicted serial killer. Also what do you mean he was inexperienced?! With that mouth?! Seems questionable to me! But I guess romance books really are an excellent source of information on the topic. I loved seeing Carmen again and still want a book with her story, but I’ll settle with the cameos I guess. The fact that Hazel muted the noise in Flynn’s mind was so precious and I loved their story, especially the ending. Can’t wait to read Wright and Lachlan’s next!!

Spice: 🔥🔥🔥/5

Fave quotes:

”Hey Dexter, don’t think about m*rder in your future wife’s bedroom. Girls don’t like that.”

”I don’t need you to keep me safe. I just need you to keep me.”

”You take my breath away, Little Lilac. Seems only fair that I take away yours.”

”…maybe my love is a little different than normal, but I know without a doubt that’s it’s real.”

4.5⭐️ Rounded up to 5. I received an ARC from the author and Luna Literacy for my honest review. Thank you Alexis!!
**I absolutely loved this dark stalker rom-com! I haven’t laughed so hard from reading a book since Tourist Season. Hazel and Flynn were incredible. All the characters in this book were written so well, I loved them all…well minus the bad guys. But with that, the suspense and thriller aspect of this book made it so I didn’t want to put it down.
*Flynn was obsessed with Hazel from the very beginning and Hazel couldn’t help but be drawn to him. Flynn was hilarious with his horrible ‘dad’ jokes and his inner dialogue of his sister’s voice guiding him through life just made sense for his character. I loved the banter between Flynn and Hazel as well.
*Hazel and her inner dialogue throughout the book was also hilarious and made her personality. I loved her and her sisterhood with her two best friends as well and cannot wait for the next book.
**The side characters in this book helped make this book that much more incredible. Between Wright, Olivia and Lachlan were amazing and I can’t wait for the next book.

Romance with a dark comedic twist!
Honestly this book had me giggling out loud at times and then questioning whether I should or not - as well as how I would absolutely fall for all of Flynns flags 😅😍
He’s a golden retriever stalker of an MMC who does rather questionable things but only because her knows he needs to protect his girl 🥰
Hazel is great - honestly her running commentary on her own life and decisions is hilarious and you really feel each one with her 🤣 it does make you question what you would do when a morally grey serial unaliver falls madly in love with you and starts to corrupt your sense of the world 🙈 I must say though Flynn has solid reasons for doing what he does!
It was pretty quick paced and had really good flow to it, the story was consistent and a good old revenge plot! The focus was definitely on the relationship aspect though and it was slower burn but wow when they gave in it was HAWT 🔥 overall a great read!

Alexis Grace is my favorite found author since reading her Of Mine series last year and I knew I wanted to read her newest spin-off release in the same universe! I am beyond grateful to have been selected to receive an advanced reading copy and let me tell you it was as good as I expected!

I fell instantly for Hazel and Flynn’s comical start in the bedroom scene only gaining more momentum as the story progressed! Hazel is a dynamic character with depth and a tragic past that pushed her into becoming a 911 operator often exposed to horrific circumstances. Flynn is a very lovable golden retriever murderer/vigilante who opens Hazel’s moral dilemma to how justice is served in his life! Choked in Love is the first book in an inter-connected series featuring dark rom-com settings, possessive men (“his little lilac”), and hand necklaces! I am ecstatic and ravenous for the next installment in this beloved series!

P.S. Can we talk about this book cover!?! 💜💜💜🔥🔥🔥

I absolutely loved this book. This was so fun, and I love the serial killer rom-com vibe of the book. I flew through the book and couldn’t get enough. But it did feel like something was missing. I can’t put my finger on what it was, though…

I was obsessed with Flynn from the first page. How can a guy be so good while also being so bad? I was rooting for him throughout the entire book. And my god, he was so good for Hazel.

And Hazel, sweet sweet girl. I liked her so much, but I also wanted to squeeze her cheeks because she was so cute. And I loved her friends and their friendship (I already can’t wait for Wright’s book).

Alexis, you did it again. You make me more obsessed with you every single time I read one of your books.

Dating is for normal people. Stalking is much more fun.

An escaped serial ‘unaliver,’ a lilac-themed bedroom, and a heroine who fends of her homicidal intruder with a vibrator wand - Choked in Love makes its dark, outrageous tone clear from the opening pages. Flynn, better known as the Vigilante Choker, has just escaped from the local not-so-secure psychiatric hospital and breaks into Hazel Halloway’s bedroom to evade the police….. although, if she leaves the window open, surely that’s an invitation! Fortunately for Hazel… or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it. Flynn may be a killer but he’s a man on a mission.

Alexis Grace kicks off this new trilogy with one of the most unhinged meet-cutes I’ve ever read when after threatening Flynn with a sex toy, Hazel then proceeds to make him cocoa, almost poisoning him in the process, proving she’s far more effective at weaponising hot chocolate than her trusty wand. It’s ridiculous, chaotic, and somehow completely works. As killers go, Flynn is a genuine sociopath. He’s incapable of love, but he instinctively knows when someone becomes his, and Hazel or ‘Lilac,’ as he insists on calling her, shoots straight to the top of that list. Cue an obsessive, morally black hero going into full on stalker mode, installing cameras throughout her house, tracking her every move, and somehow convincing himself this is perfectly reasonable behaviour. Touch-her-and-die energy? Absolutely! Their banter is hilarious but the chemistry between them is what really makes this book, the air literally sizzles whenever they are near each other. Flynn’s overprotective tendencies are as entertaining as they are unhinged, and Hazel gives as good as she gets. Neither of them is remotely normal, which makes them weirdly perfect together. While Flynn is busy dodging recapture - not that the police seem very competent – all while plotting his next kill, Hazel spots a disturbing connection between his victims other the obvious fact they were all rapists. It’s one tied to her own past, one that places her firmly in the crosshairs which added to the building suspense and tension that kept me hooked throughout and coming with a fantastic twist surrounding the identity of one of the villains that completely caught me off guard. The supporting cast added even more depth to the story, and I’m already excited for the next book featuring Hazel’s best friend, Wright, a vigilante in her own right, alongside Flynn’s lawyer/brother Lachlan, who also happens to share Flynn’s extracurricular activities making him every bit as intriguing.

If you love dark serial killer romcoms that don’t take themselves too seriously, with a morally black, obsessively devoted, serial ‘unaliver’ for a hero and an impulsive heroine, laugh-out-loud banter, plenty of spice, suspense, and the bonus of a secret society lurking in the background, then Choked in Love absolutely delivers. It’s outrageous, addictive, and ridiculously entertaining from beginning to end and an easy five-star read.

Review of advance copy received from Author
July 6, 2026
I went into this book expecting a dark romance, but I wasn't prepared for how funny and entertaining it would be. A serial killer breaking into someone's house sounds like the beginning of a horror novel, yet somehow Alexis Grace turns it into one of the most chaotic and memorable meet-cutes I've read. From the very first chapter, I was completely hooked.

Flynn is the definition of morally gray. He's an escaped convict, a serial killer, and someone who clearly doesn't experience emotions the way most people do. Despite all of that, I couldn't help becoming invested in his character. The way he looks after Hazel, remembers the little things about her, and becomes completely devoted to her made him impossible to ignore. His obsession with her is intense, but it also creates some genuinely funny and surprisingly sweet moments.

Hazel was just as enjoyable to follow. I appreciated that she never ignored how dangerous Flynn was. She's constantly questioning her own judgment while trying to make sense of why she feels so drawn to him, which made her reactions feel believable. Their banter and inner thoughts had me laughing throughout the book, and I loved that she wasn't afraid to challenge Flynn instead of simply going along with everything he wanted.

What really surprised me was how well the romance blended with the suspense. Flynn's personal mission for revenge kept the story moving and added plenty of tension, while Hazel's struggle with the moral complexity of everything happening gave the story more depth than I expected. It never felt like just a romance, and that balance made it hard to put down.

The romance itself is a slow burn, but the buildup made the relationship feel much more rewarding. Their chemistry develops naturally, and every romantic moment felt like it had a purpose instead of taking away from the story. I also really enjoyed the side characters and the friendships throughout the book, especially Flynn's relationship with his brother. They added a lot of personality to the story and left me excited to see where future books will go.

Overall, this was a dark romantic comedy that perfectly balanced humor, suspense, romance, and morally gray characters. It's completely over-the-top in the best way, and I found myself flying through the pages. If you enjoy obsessive love interests, chaotic relationships, and stories that don't take themselves too seriously while still delivering an engaging plot, this is definitely worth picking up.

I just finished Choked in Love by Alexis Grace, and I’m still grinning like an idiot while side eyeing my own bedroom window.

This book is exactly what it promises, a deliciously unhinged dark romcom that somehow makes you root for a vigilante serial killer who climbs through windows like it’s a meet/cute.

Hazel is an absolute delight. As a 911 operator, she’s already seen enough chaos to be a little desensitised, but nothing prepares her for the moment America’s most dangerous vigilante drops into her bedroom while she’s dancing around in her nightshirt. 😂

I loved how real a she felt, funny, a bit chaotic, and surprisingly unbothered by the morally gray (okay, pitch black) man who’s now fixated on her. Her reactions walk that perfect line between “this should terrify me” and “why is this kind of hot?” that makes the whole story so addictive.

Flynn, though… whew. He’s the golden retriever serial unaliver of my dreams. He’s protective, sarcastic, and ridiculously obsessed with Hazel from the second he meets her. The way his darker, possessive side emerges when she’s threatened is 🤌🏻🤌🏻. The “friendly kidnapping” and over the top stalking elements are handled with such playful darkness that they never feel grim. Instead, they’re strangely sweet in the most twisted way. Their banter is sharp and flirty, and the hate to love tension crackles on every page.

The spice is on the page and plentiful, blending perfectly with the humor and the darker moments. Alexis Grace nails the balance, there’s genuine danger from Flynn’s past and the monster he’s hunting, but it’s wrapped in so much charm and wit that you’re laughing even when things get intense.

The Of Mine universe tease and the setup for the Stalked Love series have me excited for more. I loved The Of Mine trilogy, and was sad to see it end, but if I get to see cameos then I’m a happy book girlie 🥰.

If you love morally black MMCs who would burn the world down for their woman, quirky heroines who match their freak, and a story that leans all the way into the absurdity of a serial killer falling head over heels, this one is for you.

It’s fun, filthy, and surprisingly heartwarming in the most deranged way possible.

I devoured it in one sitting and already want to reread the chaotic bedroom window scene.

Highly recommend if you’re in the mood for something dark, spicy, and laugh out loud entertaining.

Choked in love arc review 4.5⭐️

Well what a first opening page that was! I never I’d say this but I can totally relate to how hazel reacted to Flynn breaking in mid dance party to Taylor swift😂 as someone who lives alone and still walks around with my music full blast through my air pods I felt called out. If it hadn’t been for the fact I decided to start this on my best friends weekend away hen do I think I would have binged this in a day. In fact I did leave for an hour or so just so I could fit in some reading time that’s how much this hooked me!

When I say this is deliciously unhinged I mean it! Alexis knows how to balance the dark with humour and it seriously has me questioning not only my sanity but my morals.

Is Flynn a sociopath with choking tendencies… yes👀
Does he also know hazel prefers hot chocolate over coffee, turns the cameras off when she asks him to (most of the time) and turns up at her house to comfort her because her bestie asked him to… also yes🥹 so yes I saw the red flags but this girlie is colour blind because he had me swooning at times!

Just like on the very first page I related to hazel to an alarming degree🫣 her thoughts and decisions had me agreeing and also questioning what I would do in her shoes.. the answer is I’d fall in love with the cereal unaliver too👀

The plot throughout had me trying to piece things together like an episode of CSI and this got me! That wasn’t who I guessed at all, I loved the cameo of carmen and I’m very intrigued by her character, hoping to see more of her. Also Wright and Livi have me wanting to know more about their backstories and why they weren’t so worried about crossing the line into morally grey whenever Hazel had doubts.

The spice😏🥵 it didn’t overpower the story and when the scenes did happen it was with purpose to emotionally carry the story forward. And Lachlan buying him romance books for ‘guidance’ had me kicking my feet and let’s just say Flynn is a fast learner🤭

And the snipped of Wright and Lachlan 🤭 yeah I’m so ready for their book, morally grey lawyer and a 911 operator by day and vigilante badass at night, GIVE IT TO ME!

Thank you to Alexis Grace and Luna Literary for the arc, you best believe the second I see sign ups for book 2 I’ll be running!!!🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️ all thoughts are my own

📖 Choked in Love — Alexis Grace

Synopsis:
Hazel is a 911 operator whose life is turned upside down when an escaped serial killer climbs through her bedroom window. Flynn is everything she should fear—a convicted murderer, stalker, and vigilante—but instead of hurting her, he becomes fiercely protective. As Hazel uncovers the truth behind Flynn's victims, she realizes not everything is as black and white as it seems.

My Thoughts:
I absolutely loved this book. If you loved Ali and Josh from Lights Out, then you'll probably fall head over heels for Hazel and Flynn too.

Flynn is the definition of a morally gray book boyfriend. Yes, he's a serial killer. Yes, he's obsessed. Yes, he stalks Hazel... and somehow Alexis Grace makes you root for him anyway. His protectiveness, dry humor, and complete devotion to Hazel made him impossible not to love.

Hazel was such a refreshing FMC. Her chaotic inner monologue had me laughing constantly, especially when she was fully aware she was making terrible decisions but couldn't stop herself. The banter between these two was perfect.

I loved all the little pop culture references sprinkled throughout the book. The Taylor Swift references, Friends, Dexter, Flynn's Disney name, and all the hot chocolate (with whipped cream!) moments made the story feel so cozy despite... you know... the serial killing.

One thing I really appreciated was that Flynn isn't killing random people. There's a much bigger story behind why he's doing what he's doing, and as the mystery unfolds you start questioning where justice really ends and revenge begins.

The stalking romance was everything I wanted: protective, possessive, funny, and surprisingly sweet. It somehow balances dark themes with laugh-out-loud moments, and it worked so well.

Favorite Quote:

🔪 Vigilante Serial Killer MMC
🌶️ Morally Gray Hero

Final Thoughts:
❤️ One of my favorite stalker romances.
😂 Flynn's terrible dad jokes and Hazel's inner monologue had me smiling the entire book.
🖤 Morally gray heroes will forever have my heart.
📚 I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

The plot line and the MMC, Flynn were top notch 👏

But honestly i wasn’t a fan of the FMC, Hazel.

*some spoilers below*
.
.
.
.
.
Hazel’s entire persona for majority of the book was that of an 8 year old trying to prove that she’s a big girl who knows what she’s doing when in reality, she doesn’t. She deliberately dives into dangerous situations without any sort of clear plan, without thinking it through, and she makes it worse every time even when she realizes her plans were idiotic to begin with. She thinks she can walk in and out of altercations with dangerous people as if they won’t harm her, even when she knows that they’re violent people (like her abusive ex).

And who the hell leaves their phone behind when they know they’re walking into a dangerous situation, that too without informing anyone so that they can get help and get you out ? And her only response when she gets stopped by the MMC is ‘you wouldn’t let me help, you’re not the boss of me’, she sounds like an 8 year old who’s angry that the experienced adult pulled her out of her stupidity. And RIGHT after that she says ‘I didn’t ask for this. I didn’t want to be involved’, girl you were specifically told to stay out of it! Who told you to go see your abusive ex to ask about the secret society ? Who told you to go to the senator’s office ? Who told you to go to the senator’s gala ? you were the one who ‘wanted to help’ and made these stupid plans of going into the snake’s den in the first place, no one made you do anything! She was just too point blank stupid. In reality, she’s a goody two-shoes who wouldn’t hurt a fly, and that’s perfectly fine, but when you know that you have no survival skills, fighting skills and espionage skills, you’re supposed to be smart and not get involved (especially without backup) because you know you’re not equipped to handle the situation.

The FMC’s lack of self-preservation skills and her naive foolishness really put a damper on the experience of the story for me. But apart from that, the plot line of the crime mystery was great. I enjoyed Flynn’s character a lot. And Wright’s character was soooooo badass ! 🔥 I absolutely loved her ! I can’t wait for Wright and Lachlan’s story ! 💃

Read if you like: dark romcom, stalking, serial killer, protective MMC, hate to love you, breath play, dual pov

Flynn is a sweet and protective serial killer who can take care of ME any day 🙂‍↕️ I loved how he would kill for Hazel, tend to her injuries, buys her a security system and stock her house with groceries. He was obsessed with her the moment he saw her!! His jokes were so cute 😭 what an endearing morally grey man. He has a good reason to be a serial killer so I’m not mad about his murdery hobby 🤧

The dual pov was great. I loved seeing how down bad he was for her - his feelings were fierce and possessive.

Unfortunately, I wanted to DNF around the 50-60% mark. I can’t deal with dumb FMCs, but because it was an ARC I pushed through. It’s such a shame because the book was looking like a 5/5 until that point. Hazel would make so many dumb decisions, it genuinely made me so angry.
You’re telling me she 1. Went back to her abusive ex to get info. 2. Knows the senator is a rapist but still wants to get close to him after she was warned and SHE KNEW that he was dangerous. 3. Leaves her phone at home so she can’t be tracked going to see said rapist just to get info.
She gets upset that’s she doesn’t want to be involved yet she WILLINGLY puts herself in that position in the first place? WHERE IS HER BRAIN

I love the authors writing - it flows well, she knows how to write great tension (in anxiety inducing scenes and spicy scenes) and I love her dialogue. It’s a shame that I couldn’t get past the FMC being dumb. 5 stars down to a 3 purely because of Hazel.

The twist at the end was actually wild, it saved the book!! I did not expect that at all - it was so good and anxiety inducing

My fave line “You take my breath away, Little Lilac. Seems only fair that I take yours.”

If you’re looking for a dark romcom I recommend this book!! You’ll definitely fall for Flynn, the endearing serial killer who makes pun jokes.

Thank you Alexis Grace and Luna Literary for this ARC

📚✨ Choked in Love by Alexis Grace
⭐️5/5 | 🌶️2/5

This book single-handedly cured the reading slump and book hangover I've been stuck in for the past month. I'm not even exaggerating.

At this point, Alexis Grace is officially an auto-buy author for me. Every single release gets added to my shelf because she simply does. not. miss.

If you've ever wanted a rom-com with a stalker romance twist, this is it. The book literally starts with Flynn, a convicted serial killer, breaking into Hazel's house...and instead of screaming, she makes him the world's saddest cup of hot chocolate. I knew from that moment this book was going to be completely unhinged in the best way.

I absolutely adored both main characters.

Hazel has spent so much time trying to heal after an abusive relationship, and watching her slowly let herself trust and fall in love again was honestly beautiful. Her healing journey felt genuine, and I loved seeing her rediscover herself.

Then there's Flynn...

A sociopathic serial killer who only targets bad men? Morally gray? Completely obsessed? Say less.

The second this man started talking dirty, I knew I was finished. Flynn is possessive, dominant, absolutely obsessed with Hazel, and somehow ridiculously charming at the same time. Their chemistry was incredible, and I loved that the romance was a slower burn before everything finally came together. The payoff was 100% worth it.

I also really appreciated the ending. Everything wrapped up in a satisfying way without feeling rushed, and I closed the book with the biggest smile on my face.

The biggest compliment I can give this book? I woke up at 7 a.m., planned to read one chapter before getting ready...and didn't leave my bed until I had finished the entire book. It woke me up better than a cup of coffee ever could.

If you love obsessive, morally gray MMCs, dark romantic comedies with plenty of banter, and romances that somehow manage to be both chaotic and ridiculously sweet, you need this book.

✨ Reading Mood: Kicking my feet and giggling

I’ve tried to keep this as spoiler free as possible but there’s small snippets from the book in this review !!
ARC Review – Choked in Love by Alexis Grace ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I was so lucky to receive an ARC of Choked in Love and I LOVED it!

The opening had me laughing immediately. Meet hazel. Were introduced to Hazel by her dancing around her house in nothing but an oversized shirt and undies to Taylor Swift after work (valid) when everything goes completely off the rails. Let’s just say her survival instincts are questionable and it made for such an entertaining first meeting with Flynn.

Flynn is the definition of a walking red flag, and if you love morally grey, obsessive, protective, slightly unhinged book boyfriends, he’s definitely going to catch your attention. He’s the kind of character who has you questioning your taste in fictional men… in the best way.
Flynn’s just escaped from the psychiatric facility and needed to hide out and Hazels house happened to be that hiding spot.

Without spoiling anything the banter, dark humour, and chaos balance each other really well, making this a book that’s easy to get hooked on.
special shout out to chapter 32 because who says you can’t bring a vibrator to a knife fight honestly? A girls got to do what’s a girls got to do.

One thing I really appreciated is that Alexis Grace includes a thorough list of content and trigger warnings before the story. With a book that explores darker themes, having those warnings upfront was much appreciated and lets readers decide if it’s the right book for them!
PS. Some of these photos may seem out of context in the first slide but once you read the book you’ll get it
If you’re into dark romance with humour, an absolutely chaotic first meeting, a morally black hero, and plenty of tension, this one is worth adding to your TBR. Just be sure to check the trigger warnings before diving in but once you’re in, you never want to leave !

Alexis Grace is back with a dark rom-com centered around a prison-escapee dubbed the Vigilante Choker for his work eliminating sleazy, corrupt men in power. Hazel, a 911 operator, discovers him standing in her bedroom shortly after his escape, and what ensues next is an obsessive love story filled with revenge, secret societies, and blatantly ignored private boundaries.

What I liked:

💓 Flynn’s complex relationship with emotions. Flynn is a sociopath, which in fiction tends to be depicted as someone running purely on base desires and intrusive thoughts. In CiL, Flynn’s sister Hope helped him navigate and identify emotions in a way only he could understand. He was aware that he couldn’t fully grasp social emotions like guilt and empathy, but he also knew that (though it looked different), he was capable of love, anger, and happiness. I thought this lent a unique perspective to Flynn’s entire storyline; it humanized sociopathy when it’s usually more of an alienating condition.

😂 The banter. I loved how quirky and fun Flynn was around Hazel. His never-ending stream of dad jokes, blatant offense at her cooking attempts, and absurd gift-giving skills brought such a fresh, bright humor to an otherwise dark storyline. Alexis truly nailed the perfect dark:romcom ratio.

🔪 The side characters! As a huge fan of her Of Mine series, I may have squealed a bit when we hit the cameo chapter 🤭 But also, Lachlan and Wright?? They didn’t just fade into the background, they brought their own helping of tension! Wright is a woman fueled by rage, bringing audacious men to justice wherever she can. What she doesn’t know is that stick-up-his-a*s Lachlan has a similar “hobby,” and that they might not be so different despite his quiet, reserved demeanor and her loud, obnoxious one.

If you liked books like Rook & Rebel or Butcher & Blackbird, definitely give this a shot!

I have nobody to blame but myself for the fact I was functioning on approximately three brain cells at work the next day because I made the executive decision to keep reading until I finished this bad boy.

Did I stay up well past sunrise? Yes.

Did I regret it? Absolutely not.

This was an easy five star read and one that completely consumed me from the very first chapter. Alexis has this incredible ability to write books that are so ridiculously addictive you convince yourself you'll stop at the next chapter.....and then suddenly the birds are singing, your partner is still snoring next to you, the sun is up, and you're questioning every life choice that led you to opening your Kindle in the first place.

The characters were everything I wanted them to be. Likeable, engaging, wonderfully chaotic, and just the right amount of completely unhinged (looking at you here Flynn!!!!). I was obsessed with every interaction, every bit of banter, every emotional moment, and every questionable decision they made. They felt messy, real, and impossible not to root for. Honestly, I wanted to climb into the pages and become part of their chaos. The really crap jokes had me sniggering to myself all night, they were that ridiculous.

The chemistry was phenomenal. The pacing of their story, whilst fast, was perfect for them. And the romance had me completely invested from beginning to end. This is one of those books where you don't realise how attached you've become until you're staring at the final page wondering how you're supposed to carry on with your actual life now.

Faultless. No notes.

If Alexis keeps writing books like this, I'm gonna have to let my boss know I need annual leave after every release because apparently I can no longer be trusted to read responsibly.

What happens when a Serial Killer escapes from prison and climbs in through your bedroom window???

Fall in love with him, of course. After you've made him hot chocolate and watched Friends with him first, duh.

I had an absolute blast when it came to this book, who knew that when it came to dark romance all I needed was a little humour to go along with it. Hazel is a riot; her internal monologue is honestly the best thing about this book. The headlines she comes up with, and Flynn's dry jokes that aren't even funny, make this a pretty good read.

What I loved about this even more is the one glaring problem, aka he's a serial killer escaped from Jail, isn't glossed over, it's not forgotten, and she doesn't just get over it. Do I think that he has a little too much plot armour, given he's freely walking around a city? Yes, yes I do. Realistically, there should have perhaps been a bit more danger around that aspect, but honestly, I was having too much fun to even care that he should, without a doubt, be a whole lot more concerned than he was.

The side characters are fantastic as well, and I love how Hazel is the moral one out of everyone. In her head, she knows that these people are bad, but knowing it and thinking they actually deserve to die is another.

If you love your men stalkerish, and love hand necklaces even more, then this book is going to be right up your street. For fans of Haunting Adeline, and Lights Out with a hint of Butcher and Blackbird.

This is the type of Dark Romance I want more of; it balanced the smut with the plot and the character development really well. It was such a good time. I don't think I've laughed as much as I did while reading this.

Just Obsessed! 🤩
It’s been awhile since I found a Dark RomCom book that I truly enjoyed from start to finish!
And “Choked in Love “ checked ✅ all the boxes of what I love in Dark RomCom!
It does have a “Lights Out “ \ The Mindf*ck series / Butcher and Blackbird vibes to it!
There are some dark themes so check those triggers!

Just loved Flynn and Hazel’s unconventional relationship!
They were definitely two characters with opposite beliefs and personalities but when you put these two together …phew 😮‍💨 their undeniable chemistry is off the charts! 🔥🌶️🥵

Hazel is the girl next door type and a 911 operator.
Her humor was a bit dry 😅but I still loved her inner monologue … which was just hilarious!
It was like she had an angel and a devil on her shoulders and she was constantly having to choose between right and wrong.

Morally Black “Flynn “ is a sociopath and a vigilante.
His hilarious humor had me laughing so hard!
And his sweet demeanor but ‘Dexter” 🔪 ways just had me wrap around his finger! Just loved his character so much!

Eventually… Hazel & Flynn come together to fight the bad guys and along the way fall in love and get their HEA.
The dynamic with their friends and family was a big plus in this story too!
And so excited to read the next book with Lachlan ( Flynn’s brother) and little spitfire vigilante “Wright” ( Hazel’s friend) !

Overall I loved everything about this book! And this is my first book by Author Alexis Grace and I’m excited to read more of her work!

🔪💜ARC Review💜🔪

Thank you Alexis Grace and Luna Literary for this ARC of Choked in Love, this was bloody brilliant‼️

Is it crazy to say that this book has me living on cloud 9 right now⁉️🤭 This was my FIRST Alexis Grace book and I NEED more, not just the next book, just MORE‼️(but I am so freaking excited for the next book)

Dexter aka our beloved Flynn is so down bad for his girl Hazel, in the worst yet best way😏 Am I completely obsessed with the fact that he “stumbled” across her when he escaped from a psychiatric facility and just climbed through her window like a rando, or that he fell and fell hard for the girl that was dancing around in her underwear singing Taylor Swift and made him hot chocolate‼️

The twists and turns that this book takes were disproportionately EPIC‼️ Some of the twists even had me like, “how did I not see that coming”, don’t get me wrong I love figuring out the puzzle of books but when my mind is blown its just that extra bit of sparkle that has my jaw on the floor‼️

I absolutely LOVED the inner monologue of not only Hazel narrating her life choices in the form of a reality show (this had me cackling) but also the sweetness factor of the “voice” that is in Flynns head 🥺 Flynn is hands down the perfect sociopath and I just couldn’t get enough, his jokes were on point and the spice was spicy, especially since Flynn was someone was basically touch “intolerant” until it came to Hazel…

I could go on and on but basically, GO READ THIS‼️

Alexis Grace, the best selling author of the mine series has now written a dark spicy romantic comedy and was it exactly that!!!

I read this in under 24 hours and let me tell you it's not surprising why! From the very beginning, your sucked in to the plot and the comedy. The way the relationship develops between the MMC and MFC is so well done. You've got side characters that make the story better and makes you want their stories! The jokes in this are terrible but thats what makes it even better! You can't help but laugh at them and think: OMG thats brilliant! The spice just kept on giving, how it started off slow but then built up to something extra just added to the chokehold you'll be in when reading this. The twists added a little bit of mystery that kept the story flowing, I need more from these characters.

Thank you LunaLiterary for the advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review!

I liked this story, the beginning hooked me instantly - stalker escapes a psych ward, climbs through a window, and meets a 911 operator? Uhh color me intrigued! However, as the story progressed I found myself becoming less invested in Flynn and Hazel.

Flynn is an unhinged, sociopath who ends up obsessed with Hazel and honestly, I'd take him any damn day. Although I would have liked more behind the insta attraction he had for Hazel, I enjoyed his character. He was protective, possessive, and genuinely had her best interest at heart - in his own way that is. The fact that he had a security system installed AND stocked her fridge with food, was so sweet.

I found myself getting very irritated with Hazel. The decisions she was making and how she went about things highly frustrated me, like why would you try to warn the senator KNOWING the bad sh*t he did? Maybe that's just the my morally grey side talking, but definitely made me mad.

The side characters were great, I loooved Wright! Honestly, I liked her over Hazel but that's just my opinion. I cannot wait to read book 2 - I have a feeling Wright and Lachlan are going to be my favorite couple out of the two.

The plot twist at the end was a nice touch, although a bit predictable, I still enjoyed it. Overall, if you're in the mood for a dark rom com with funny banter and lots of spice definitely pick this one up!
