++Spoilers++

I rarely give 5 stars, when I do it's usually because I REALLY enjoyed it, and has few if any flaws.

What I liked most was the dialogue. The banter between the Dragon and the heroine was fantastic. I am amazed that the author was able to create 3 dimensional characters using (predominately) dialogue.

The modern dialogue of the heroine didn't bother me as much as it usually does. It actually worked for me because it offset and complimented the hero's very proper speech.

The dragon hero made the story. I totally loved him. I loved his attitude.. he's so pompus it's funny and adorable. I also love the heroine and how she handles him so well.

The only thing odd that stuck in my OCD brain was how she got out of the chains in the very beginning of the book. It was never mentioned. Other then that, I loved it and am going to go right into the next book.

I first read The Dragon's Appraiser after having purchased the Taming the Alpha box set, and I immediately fell in love with the arrogant dragon god and his knowledgeable tribute.

As it turns out, I have Andrew Jackson & Smaug to thank for my rediscovery of the novella. I saw Smaug's hoard with lots of gold, wondered how much it would be worth and started thinking about how he would benefit from an appraisal, and voila; Madja came to mind. To my delight, I discovered that my beloved novella had been recently been turned into a serial and than parts of the original novella had been rewritten to include a few new scenes from Severrn's POV. How could I resist? To my delight, Severrn was as arrogant & unintentionally funny superior to lowly humans as I remembered. The first part is a freebie, so why not try it out if you're in the mood for something light and funny with a touch of dragon-fire hot n' steamy scenes.

Copy of my original review below:

The Dragon's Appraiser is a new riff on on the old trope of the maiden being sacrificed to satisfy a dragon. In this one, the twist is that Madja O'aer is the daughter of an appraiser, and as such, knowledgeable about the many artifacts in his ginormous hoard

I found the dialogue between Severrn; a world-weary and almighty dragon god, and Madja cute as hell, and his superior "logic" was adorable. He may be the most powerful dragon in existence, but he has yet to fall prey to the lowly desires of the flesh with a mere mortal... Oh, dear...

My favorite moment was definitely when he asked her to appraise his body... and all the events that unfolded after said appraisal. He acted like a true dragon should; with insatiable greed;-)So adorable & funny.

And of course, when a dragon recieves a tribute, he never lets it go. Especially when said object becomes his most treasured possession.

Very cute, goofy story.

4.5 stars.

I don't know why but I pretty much gobble up every one of Viola's books. Kind of like my guilty pleasures, always come back to you authors.

*ReRead July 4th 2019*

Every time I reread a Viola Rivard book, I always love it just as much as the first time I read it. I don't know what it is about her writing, about her characters, about the story itself, but I always love her books. Viola Rivard is an auto buy author for me, I will read everything and anything she publishes.

Madja was sent to the lair of dragon god Severn (sp?) as a tribute. Her knowledge of artefacts saves her life and they fall into a routine where he brings her food, she bathes and then spends her time in the lair teaching Servern about his treasures. All of this is well and good, but:

Where, exactly, is the toilet?

I know what you're thinking, I know it's just a story but I just couldn't help myself. So I backtracked to the description of the lair:
Light flooded the expansive cavern, pouring in from a massive hole in the ceiling. [...] Sunlight reflected off what could only be millions of gold coins. They completely covered the floor, with scattered piles forming a golden landscape of hills and valleys. At the edge of the light, Madja could make out what looked like an underground lake. The surface of the water had a strange iridescence and seemed to glitter like diamonds.

There's piles of gold. And a lake. But no mention of indoor plumbing. Does she discreetly pee in the lake?

Further on, I get this:
“Observe.”

It was all he said before he vanished. Madja stared at the spot where he had just stood, her body rigid. Somehow, seeing him disappear into thin air was even more unnerving than seeing him shift into his dragon form.
[...]
Madja was almost impressed, until she realized the implications. “Wait, how often do you do this? I mean, when you leave me alone, are you…watching me?”

He shrugged. “Of course.”

Okay, she bathes in it so she definitely doesn't pee there. It would be even harder to poop. Also, he watched when she took a bath. Was he watching her take a dump as well? Hmm.

WAIT.

WHERE IS SOAP?!? WHERE IS THE TOILET PAPER?!? THEY HAVE SEX LATER. OH GOD NO

This is a trip through the eyes of a girls childhood fantasies that been told throughout time. Fantasies that soon turn into a reality she never dreamed of.

Madja has never believed the stories of the Dragon God and thought it idiotic that everyone lived in poverty because of a deep seated belief that throwing all their gold and trinkets to the Dragon God Sevrrn would somehow make their lives better.

She is caught by the guards and thrown down to the Dragon as a sacrifice. Thus begins her journey through the caverns looking to escape, she doesn't believe there is a real dragon anyway. She comes across all the gold that has been thrown to the dragon god throughout the centuries and thinks to take some with her when she gets out.

Little does she know what lurks in plain site, till the Dragon makes his appearance. Madja is taken aback and when he turns into a man, words can not describe the beauty of the beast.

Sevrrn has never had a need for humans even as food they are not tasty, but this little human intrigues him and he wants to keep her...She
entertains him with stories and then other things he never did before.

Now his mission is to find a way for Madga to stay with him forever, will they find a way? Can't wait for the next book in the series.

A story full of magical discoveries.

~~ A gift from the Author~~

I get all kinds of emotions that run through me as I read different stories, Dragon Appraiser was a sure delight, it just had me giggling. I do love the fact that Ms. Rivars’s books are short sweet and to the point. Shorts give you a chance to read more than one a day so yay me. Its a easy read and comes to and end too quick, I almost didnt like Madja, but then at the end I decided I liked her. Madja as a large task of keeping a dragon happy, and she does that in equal parts with annoying him.
Sevrrn what a doll, he just made me laugh at his antics, he kept switching from the oh so fierce not caring dragon to the petulant two year that doesn’t get his way. Of course not caring about his new prize possession at all... Nope not even a little bit does he care for the sassy little human.
I loved the quick history lessons as Madja appraised the Dragon’s treasure, I loved how they both got a long, as fierce and dangerous as he is, he wasn’t with Madja. I am looking forward to part two it will be a delight to see what adventures Madja takes her dragon on.
So yes I recommend this short cute read... Enjoy.

This was fun. This is a novella, but well paced and a decent ending. I liked Madja and her stories. Sevrrn, the dragon, gradually decided he liked the company. It would have been nice to release part 2 and 3 with this one. Not a fan of novel/novella released in parts. Having said that, part 1 doesn't have a cliffhanger or abrupt ending. I might pickup the next 2.

I really enjoyed this.

I love dragons, so seeing this seemingly unattached dragon slowly find a human interesting was great. Not to mention how sexy it all was whenever he decided to grace her with his sexy human body presence.

Definite read.

Sweet, Spicy, and Simple

A creative, hot, and simple read. Well written—I enjoy third-person POV in romance, especially when it swaps. While I prefer slow burns, this pace was fine, too. The sense of devotion and virginity is always a good kink, too. Keeps me focused on the romance. I enjoy both characters—they are well-rounded and I look forward to seeing how they develop together. Altogether a quick and fun read.

1 of my favorite novellas

This is 1 of my favorite novellas that I 1st read probably 10-15 years ago from an anthology I happened to try. I was so glad I did since besides finding Viola Ricardo and “The Dragon’s Apprentice: Part 1,” I was also introduced to Scarlett Dawn with “The Valan Boys.” Anthologies are an excellent way to find new authors.

I eventually picked up all 3 parts separately and reread them often.

DELIGHTFULLY DRAGO - LICIOUS !!!
Good Golly Miss Molly! This is Part One of the exciting new series, The Dragon's Appraiser by Viola Rivard and it totally rocks! I love it! I actually fell in love with this story when it was first introduced as a short story in the Taming the Alphas bundle several months ago. I was hopeful that Viola would continue this incredible story and was so excited when I learned that she was creating a serial based on the original story. And she doesn't disappoint! Much of Part One is the same as the original short story but there have been some additions. Viola has used her extraordinary talent and incredible skill to brilliantly create an entertaining paranormal romance filled with fantasy, magic and adventure. The story is exciting, thrilling, original, imaginative, enchanting, humorous, heartwarming, romantic, arousing, sensual and steamy. The dialogue is smart, snappy, snarky, funny, well written and flows effortlessfy. The characters are fascinating, captivating, intriguing, engaging, endearing and sexy. Madja O'aer has never believed in the gods, at least not the gods that seem to favor the rich, but a small part of her has always held out hope that the dragon god, Sevrrn, did exist. Long ago, rich and poor alike came from far and wide to pay tribute to the dragon that protected her island home of Erda. Madja like most children had always fantasized about infilitrating the dragon's lair to glimpse the treasure inside. Be careful what you wish for! In her fantasies, she never dreamed she would be captured and sacrificed as tribute to the dragon god. She just may get a glimpse of the treasure she had once dreamed about but the ultimate price may now be her life! Oh My! But to her utter disappointment and relief there is no dragon nor any treasure in the small cavern where the guards left her chained. By the time she frees herself from her shackles, she's pretty sure there's definitely no dragon god. Hmm...Sounds like a perfect opportunity to search for treasure. She's always been interested in treasure and its history. After all. her father had been a world class appraiser and she had inherited his love of history and learned much from him. She needs money for her escape since she will never be able to return home. People have been throwing gold and valuables into Sevrrn's lair for thousands of years and since there's no dragon, maybe she could just take a few items. There's only one little problem - There is a dragon and he just showed up! Oh my glory! But as Madja soon discovers, the dragon is also a man, a very handsome man and she's very attracted to him. And it seems the mighty, magnificent, dragon Sevrrn may also be attracted to the lovely Madja. What? Impossible! He would never be attracted to a human nor tempted by the desires of the flesh. He is only impressed with her knowledge of his treasure, nothing more. Besides, she was given to him as tribute, she now belongs to him and we all know how a dragon feels about his possessions. No, she may belong to him but he would never debase himself by being with an inferior human! Or would he? Hmmm.....I guess we'll just have to read the story to find out. Sexy dragon shifter-check! Beautiful sassy virgin-check! Adventure, humor, magic and fantasy-check! Instant attraction, explosive chemistry, romance and sex-you bet! I can hardly wait for Part Two. Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!

I rated this book 5 stars Definitely AWESOME, The Dragon's Appraiser: Part One

I was given a ARC to read and give a review.Viola Rivard books are some of greatest reading that you can curl up to in your favorite place to read. This a short but very delightful story. I can say this I love reading Dragon shifter stories. Viola is a favorite author of mine, I love her style of writing, she is the most creative writer with lots imagination.

The Dragon's Appraiser is hilarious you will laugh all Throug the story. Viola words give her characters life, you will actually believe in the sacrificed of a woman to a dragon. But if the dragon is like Sevrrn women would line up to voluneer to be given to the a Dragon.

communicating with a human for the first time and learning what a human is like emotionally.

The story intrigues you as Madja walks around in the Dragon laird with knowing the Dragon is there. You will immediately find yourself laughing at the conversations that is being said between Madja and Sevrrn, with Sevrrn learning Madja human emotions and the way he intrepid her words and how he reacts to things she do and say. This is a marvelous story and it ends far to soon. This book can and will captivate you by the end. Will Sevrrn and Madja go hunting to find what will make her immortal. They have babies, will people discover who Sevrrn is in his human form.
This is a GREAT start to a FANTASTIC Series I can't hardly wait for the next book.

I recommend part one of The Dragon's Appraiser to All the Dragon shifters lovers you will most definitely fall in love with Sevrrn. This is such an amazing story and you will be as anxious as I am and will be waiting on the next book.

You will want to use that one click option to get a copy for yourself. You will want to pre-order books two and three. I can definitely guarantee you will enjoy this series. Starting with Book 1 then 2 and 3.

When I started reading this story, I realised that I had read it previously in the Taming The Alpha anthology (which BTW is great value at 99c for 20 stories, so you should get it). This version has been slightly revised and it's going to be a three part story, if I understand correctly, rather than the short story that it was in the anthology.

I enjoyed the story when I read it in the anthology and even on a second reading of this revised version, I enjoyed it immensely.

I really liked Madja because she was going her best to make a really bad situation work for her. I loved her interactions with Sevrryn and the differences between the two of them.

Viola Rivard did a wonderful job of capturing the difference in Sevrryn as an immortal dragon god and how removed he is from humanity. That was probably the best part of the story for me, reading about Sevrryn and how he reacted to everything that was being thrown at him by a human which was so outside of his frame of reference.

Of course, it also doesn't hurt that I'm more than a little obsessed with dragons, so that's an extra plus is the story for me. Sevrryn being a dragon just automatically has me loving him more.

It's a good thing that I don't have to wait too long for Part Two as it is coming out in a few days. I'm looking forward to more of Sevrryn's antics as he discovers the world around him through human eyes.

Part Three comes out in April 2015.

ANOTHER TERRIFIC VIOLA RIVARD STORY THAT YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS OUT ON OVER 18
I was given this book for a honest review and this is my honest opinion
To start with, I want more !!!!!! Viola Rivard has told a wonderful story in this one and I can't wait till it continues. I mean a centuries old virgin dragon and a virgin sacrifice. At first the dragon doesn't want to eat her (the bones get in his teeth and no meat) but she has stolen from him and he can't allow that.Smart girl that she is , she quickly realizes that he just sees it as gold ,silver, jewels. But she knows the history of the different pieces and begins to tell him. He listens day after day, beginning to realize that he likes her mouth as she talks more then the stories but not why. She tells the stories but realizes she is no longer trying to figure out how to get away. Now the fun is the way they always quarrel. Never either trying to figure out why they argue all the time. Though each begins to wonder about the other, and she continually reminding him that though he is immoral she is not and she will die on him but surely they will give him another sacrifice. And that upsets him. There are lots of twist in the story as it is still one owner and one prisoner.

The Dragon's Appraiser :part one - Viola Rivard (5 Stars)

** Received a copy from author for Honest Review .
* Review was previously posted in The Taming the Alpha Anthology by me .

Madja a woman who knows her ancient artifacts has been left as a tribute for The Dragon God Sevrrn by her conniving Chancellor . Once stuck in the depths of the cave she finds many treasures that fascinate her.
The one she wasn't expecting to actually find was the dragon God himself. Although he says he isn't tempted by Madja's body he begins to fall for her charms .
Once Madja starts appraising Sevrrn's artifacts, he wishes to possess her mind and body for bewitching him.
Will Madja ever see the outside of The Dragon Gods cave again or will she be just as enchanted by Sevrrn ??

I loved that this was a new excitingly , unique start to I hope a new Dragon shifter , fantasy for Viola Rivard.
If you like Fantasy, filled with suspenseful action and adventure , emotional heartache , pulse accelerating romance and a Hot , Demanding Dragon Shifter than this is the story for you.
I am more of a werewolf shifter kind of girl , but I liked the story , the characters and am looking forward to reading more about Madja & Sevrrn The Dragon God .

3.5 out of 5 stars. Stolen in the middle of the night and left inside dragon “god” Sevrrn's lair as a tribute, Madja's life has just changed for good. Madja never believed Sevrrn was real until he finds her sorting through his riches and tells her she is his now. As they grow into a “companionable” existence together, Madja can't decide if her life has gotten better or worse, since Sevrrn says he will find a way to make that certain she will never die but she will not ever leave him. Though one thing is for sure, it will definitely be an interesting ride...

In truth, while I didn't find this novella romantic I liked reading about Sevrrn and Madja's growing relationship quite a bit. As through Madja's “knowledge,” Sevrrn learns more about his “human” half, which is intriguing all by itself. Add in their sexual interest in one another and it makes for an entertaining read.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

I originally reviewed this when i read it in another bundle, but getting it again reminded me how great it was. Madja is given as part of a tribute to the unseen dragon lord Sevrrn. Never one to take things sitting down, Madja has her plans in action as soon as she freed herself and goes exploring the Dragon's Lair in order to get herself out of the village to make something of herself. She does not expect the dragon to actually be real, and is totally surprised when he does appear. Her Knowledge of things surprise and appeal to Sevrrn who decided she's his and she should appraise his hoard. It becomes even better the day he asks her to appraise him, and wow, total learning curve. I give this story a massive five stars and i'm totally looking forward to Part 2 just to see the continued interactions between these two.

P.S - This is a copy of my review from Amazon.

I received this ARC in exchange for my honest review. I gave this book 4 stars. It's about a girl named Madja who is left as a sacrifice to appease the Dragon God Sevrrn. She seems to have a bad lot in life, and taking some of the treasure that was left prior seemed like the thing to do since she wasn't all that sure the Dragon existed. She soon discovers he does....Pros: I loved the slightly humorous arguments between Madja and Sevrrn. The writer does an excellent job incorporating a variety of vocabulary to break up the usual basic words. Cons: I was confused in the beginning of the exact time frame, and place of the story. It's obviously not modern day. Also, I disliked the female lead's name. In my head I wasn't sure how to pronounce it. Any which way I did pronounce it I disliked the way it sounded. Overall it was a good read, and I look forward to part 2.

I have read allmost all of Violas books, and she never lets me down.
So in this book yung women Madja, is sacrificed to a Dragon named Sevren. He makes me laugh, he is not sure what to do with her. At first he is currious becaus she has a lot of knowledge abaut his treausures. But more time they spend together, he watches her in diffrent prospective. She is atracted to him but she does not want to show that to him. He finds her strangely fascinating but highly annoying because of her human "dialect" and she finds him frustrating because he is completely clueless to the outside world.
I like this two character and their dialogs, they are quite amusing. The sex scens are funny and interesting because this is something new for both of them, specialy for Madja.
I cant wait for another book to be published

I love this story and can't remember when I have laughed so hard...a brilliant dialog. The banter between Madja and Sevrrn (the dragon god) is pitch perfect and priceless. What I noticed right off, is that this author does not use what I lovingly refer to as SAT words in place of those that don't require a reader to use a dictionary throughout the story. That really breaks up the rhythm of the read when you stop to look up a meaning. I consider myself a well read individual, but it is still necessary to look up meanings of words for so many other authors. This book is by no means "dumbed down" just much more enjoyable as written, in what could be referred as Layman's terms...and I don't mean that as derogatory. I'm already excited about part two coming out.

WOW what can I say about 'The Dragon's Appraiser' part 1...... What a fun, wicked, read! Viola has painted a picture that captivated all my senses. I picked it up, was finished & wanting more before I knew what hit me.... it left me smiling. I especially loved how the leading lady, Madja was sassy & although scared to be in the situation she found herself in, made herself indispensible to Sevrrn. The one sided converstions when Sevrrn was in dragon form I found interesting, but they intensified even more when in human form. I especially love when I have stories told in both leads POV, it makes things more interesting & we learn more about the characters themselves.

I can't wait to see how this serial unfolds, as Viola knows how to capture her audience & keep them hooked.

Dragon Appraiser was a really different kind of story. I received an ARC copy of The Dragon Appraiser by Viola Rivard for my review. This was a very unique story, I've not read anything quite like it before. I really enjoy Viola's unique take on all her stories. While I enjoyed this novella, I wasn't sure I loved it. I was just starting to get into the story when it was over. I do really like this creativity and a different approach to telling a story. There is no cookie cutter same old thing with Viola! I really like that about her! I do recommend this book as intriguing and it kept my attention. It didn't quite capture me as much as the other books I have read by Viola Rivard, and I do highly recommend both her alphas series.
