To Become The Berserker's Runaway Bride
A spicy viking romantasy novel set in the world of the 'To Capture A Viking's Heart' series and 'The Divided Gods' saga.
Lady Estrid Vastin will do anything to avoid a loveless marriage to Count Aron, a grizzled patriarch obsessed with receiving a male heir to his fortune. That includes throwing herself out the bedroom window, leaping from a moving carriage, and fleeing from her betrothed on their wedding day.

ARC Review | Spoiler Alert!
This book started out strong for me. I loved the FMC’s independence and her determination to choose her own path rather than conforming to society’s expectations. Go Estrid!! The supportive relationship with her mother was also refreshing—women supporting women will always be something I enjoy reading.
The writing shines most in its emotional moments. The author captures feelings of loneliness and despair particularly well, and the cozy old-English tavern atmosphere made the setting feel incredibly immersive. The romance begins with a charming meet-cute, and I liked that both main characters were simply looking for love. MMC, Kare, is genuinely kind, and the open communication between the couple was a nice change from the usual romance misunderstandings.
That said, the book lost some momentum for me as it went on. The dialogue occasionally felt too modern for the historical setting, which pulled me out of the story. I also found the romance developed very quickly—far too quickly for my taste—and Estrid’s trust in Kare felt unrealistic given how little time they had known each other.
My biggest issue was the balance between romance and plot. The relationship takes center stage to the point that the larger story often feels underdeveloped. Conflict is introduced and resolved very quickly, while the romantic scenes, which are hot as hell, receive much more attention. As someone who prefers a slow burn, this definitely was not one.
While I enjoyed the characters, atmosphere, and emotional writing, the story became less engaging for me as it went on. Still, it delivers exactly what it promises: a romance-focused read with a predictable happy ending.

Ohhhh, boy. I knew I was going to have fun with To Become The Berserker’s Runaway Bride from the first like 3 pages. (Totally a scientific calculation). This romance was such a fun mix of sweet, filthy, and endearing!
Estrid is the kind of FMC who makes an entrance and refuses to go quietly into a life she never chose. She’s bold, dramatic, a little reckless, and honestly? Good for her.
Things I loved about her: Watching her choose herself, even when her choices were messy, risky, and guaranteed to cause trouble 😈 brought me so much joy. I also appreciated how the story gave her a way to take control of her own future while still letting the romance feel natural, indulgent, and (of course) delicious.
...and as for Kare? Kare has that big, dangerous, protective energy. But (most importantly!) there’s also a softness to him that made him SO easy to love. He's a man who knows what he wants. And who can really blame him when the love of his life propositions him with life-changing spice?
Their chemistry felt instant without losing the emotional pull. The setup gave me exactly the kind of tropey, spicy chaos I want from a runaway bride Viking romantasy.
This book is playful, heated, and easy to devour. It has danger, humor, tenderness, true love, (the good kind of) possessiveness, miracles, and plenty of moments that made me smile then smirk. (Please read this sentence again, only with the Princess Bride grandfather's voice!)

We have quite a few action scenes. And get a look into the effects the potion 'Bane' has on a Berserker in battle.
The banter was fantastic!
Loved the ending. 😊

Vikings from an author who did hefty research, romance, sex, a runaway bride--what's not to love?
As I read, however, I found myself regularly pulled out of the story. There were several moments where character details seemed inconsistent to me, and at times I struggled to determine who was speaking or acting within a scene. I also found myself in need of more worldbuilding and atmosphere, as I frequently forgot the characters were Vikings and felt uncertain about the rules, culture, and historical grounding of the world.
That being said, I did genuinely enjoy the banter between the main characters. The moments they respectively arrived at the tavern and met each other (and got further acquainted 😉) were some of my favorites. Including the cute tavern scene at the very end of the book. The Bane was also a compelling feature in this world.
By the end, I found myself wishing the Viking atmosphere were more deeply woven into the story's foundation, as the premise itself is one of the elements that initially drew me in.

This was a super fun read! Given the events of the main series it was nice to take a break with this deliciously smutty offshoot. While the stakes were high for our FMC with her Berserker by her side I didnt feel the stress that normally comes with reading a high stakes book. While it somewhat feels like they move too fast if you dont mind a lust first meeting then there is no problem. I also feel like it does make sense how fast the FMC wants to move given her experience so it didnt pull me out of the story enough to bother me. Over all a nice and steady read perfect for curling up before bed!

I didn’t think I could love a fictional man more than Karsten, but then god damn KARE comes into the picture and Oh My Lawd. I love him so much??? And Estrid is such a badass???? Love love love, cannot even write a proper review cuz my thoughts are just I LOVE THIS.
