3.5 stars rounded up. This is an older book by Deborah Raleigh aka Alexandra Ivy (I didn't even know she ever wrote HR's) that popped up on my KU, and it worked for me. There is angst, but it's not too overdone. I also liked the fact that the MFC didn't just suddenly start dressing in a more flattering way or gain curves to magically make the MMC and Ton fall in love with her. She kept being herself and she just basically stopped caring so much about society's strictures.
I do think this could have used a harder edit (a few misspelled words, the word "maiden" is used over and over again in the first half, and is the MFC's skin olive or ivory, as mentioned later in the story? Anyway, the way she's described looks nothing like the cover). MMC's character arc from being indifferent to MFC to being wildly attracted is admittedly a bit abrupt, and I'm not sure I liked how the "possible blackmail" confrontation was handled, but the sexual/emotional chemistry really clicks.
There's a subplot involving MFC's and MMC's besties that started off quite interestingly, but I never quite felt like I got to know them enough as characters.
For a HR that actually came out quite a few years ago, though, this hasn't aged too badly.
