Rediscover this small-town Christmas romance from USA TODAY bestselling author Sarah Morgan. Previously published as The Doctor’s Christmas Bride.

Consultant doctor Bryony Hunter is determined to fulfill her little girl’s wish—a daddy for Christmas. She also longs for a family of her own, but with demanding hospital shifts, mountain-rescue callouts and a series of terrible dates, this mission feels impossible.
Jack Rothwell is an emergency doctor, rescue teammate and one of Bryony’s closest friends. Jack is everything Bryony could want in a partner, but he is also a committed bachelor and has no time for a serious relationship. When he realizes Bryony is resolute in her plans to find a man, Jack decides to help out in his own special way. Now a Christmas wish might lead two friends to the love they’ve been searching for all along.

Story starts when seven-year-old Lizzy Hunter tells her mother she knows what she wants for Christmas and has written Santa a letter asking for a very special Christmas present. Her mother Bryony tells her it is November so a bit early for Christmas wishes. She is also a nervous it might be an animal and as a twenty-seven-year-old consulting doctor who works a demanding schedule as well as a team member on the Lakeside Mountain Rescue squad and knows an animal would be difficult.
Lizzy tells her mother she has been good and she always told her that Santa would grant a wish if she were a good girl. She goes on to say she mailed the letter as this may take a while to grant -as she asked for a dad for Christmas.

She doesn’t know her real father as it was someone Bryony met at a party her first year in medical school, she spent the night with him, but it wasn’t serious and never darted again – (Perhaps because he wasn’t Jack???)

Jack Rothwell is an emergency doctor, rescue teammate and someone Bryony knew since she was five years old. She loved him then and still does but is satisfied with being close friends as she knows he is a committed bachelor.

He is Lizzy’s godfather and always adored her so when he realizes Bryony is looking for a dad for Lizzy. Jack decides he is going to help by babysitting Lizzy.
Bryony doesn’t date in fact, been on a date – since THAT party.

Jack is a great babysitter but not much help with Bryony’s dating choices. He is very critical of them and doesn’t like what she wears.

As Christmas gets closer, we are wondering but still hopeful of an HEA.

I did not enjoy this book as much as I wanted. While I liked the premise of a child asking Santa for a dad for Christmas and that the dad in mind is mom’s best friend who is clearly in love with her, I found the actions of the male lead character to be too controlling. It was hard for me to root for him even though the main female character had been in love with him forever. The reader does learn about his background but it wasn’t enough to sway my opinion of him. I do enjoy other books by this author more and will continue to read them. This one just wasn’t my favorite.
