Call Me Freak Again is a dark stalker romance and psychological thriller. He's still possessive and just as deadly, but now the game has changed. This time, Dima and his Little Sparrow fight their demons together, even if it means unleashing new ones. This time, they aren't the prey– this time they're the predators.
This book is trauma heavy, please check your triggers.

I did an immersive read (audio + text) for Call Me Freak Again, and it fully leans into the same unhinged chaos that book one set up, but with more payoff.
Dima continues to carry a lot of this story. Once everything comes together, his actions make sense, and he feels like a very valid character for what he’s been through. His arc is really what kept me locked in, and the ending did a great job wrapping up his story.
The audiobook really elevated this. Joe Arden and Lucy Rivers were phenomenal. The chemistry, the delivery, all of it made it very easy to stay immersed.
I’d recommend this to readers who like dark, unhinged romance, intense character-driven stories, and audiobooks where the narration takes everything to another level.
"...trauma shapes us, but it also makes us stronger..."

This book was definitely a perfect ending for Natalia and Dmtry. They both faced their demons and ended with the best outcome ever. So many secrets come out and so many heart stopping moments happen. I literally loved that they both took their power back after all they each been through. Grandpa don’t scare me like that again!
Call me freak again goes deeper into the life of Dima and Natalia. This is a continuation from book one. This answers the unsaid questions and covers the plot holes in book one. This is a dark romance book and shows the devotion Dima has for Natalia. Their lives were never complete when apart. He would burn the world down for her. I love this book and was hooked from the beginning. I highly recommend this book.
Call Me Freak Again is a gripping dark romance that answers so many questions while taking readers on an intense journey full of twists and turns. The story follows Dima, a complex and fierce character whose love for Natalia his “sparrow” drives everything he does.
Dima’s devotion to Natalia is powerful and unwavering. He would burn the world down to right the wrongs done to her and to keep her safe.
Overall, the book keeps readers hooked with its dark themes, strong characters, and constant surprises. It leaves you eager to see what happens next. I absolutely can’t wait to read Roped when it’s released.
This book begins right where the first one ends. It answers a lot of questions, and there are several very surprising plot twists. It develops even further the relationship between Dima and Natalia and shows the depth of the connection between them, but it also focuses on the suspense side of the plot, and it really is a psychological thriller as much as it is a romance. The story kept me on the edge of my chair until the very end.
The audiobook is phenomenal! J.A. Roles has created very complex characters, and has provided incredible acting material for the voice actors.
There's a lot more of Natalia in this book, compared to the first one. The few chapters from her POV really added to the character. Lucy Rivers was fantastic, from the accent to the layered emotions, to the different voices for the many female characters. Her performance matched perfectly the intensity of the story.
But this is Dima's book, and he is such an incredible character. He has an accent, and also has a voice in his head that sounds entirely different. His emotions are complex, and change in a blink, sometimes to complete opposites. It doesn't matter how many times I've listened to Joe Arden do this, it's always incredible. From one voice to another, from one accent to another, from one character or emotion to another, in half a second. This book is intense from start to finish, both because of the action and because of the emotions, and Joe's performance is just as intense, the whole time. There are several very dramatic scenes with three, four male characters, including Dima and his constantly changing emotional state, and Joe not only delivers the depth of the emotions and the intensity of the action, but does it in a way that you don't doubt for a second which character is talking, and for Dima - what is said out loud and what is in his head. And it's so much deeper than just a different voice.
Call Me Freak was one of the best audiobooks that I listened to last year. My expectations were very high for this, and it exceeded them easily.
PERFECTION!!!!!! CHAOS!!!!!!!! INSANE!!!!! Wrapped in an exquisite psychotic bow! I couldn’t have imagined a better conclusion to Dima and Natalia’s love story than this one. I felt every emotion expressed in this book deeply to my core. The highs and lows were authentic and pulled on my heart strings. I definitely got a better understanding of Dima and his past! I loved the mixture of crazy, suspense, intensity, and spice. All I will say is RAM BAM THANK YOU MA’AM!
J.A. Roles truly created a masterpiece with Dima. Between his shifting personalities, dark humor, and those sharp, hilarious inner monologues, I was completely captivated. I have loved Dima from book one and I am just so fascinated by him! As someone who appreciates thoughtful mental health representation, this story delivered in the best way possible. The pacing is electric, giving us a much deeper look into Dima and Natalia’s relationship. I am obsessed with them! We see more of Grandpa and like before he’s still my hero! 🖤This installment finally gives us the answers we’ve been waiting for regarding Dima’s past. Such a great story!
As for the audio, Lucy and Joe absolutely nailed it. They are such a powerhouse duo! We already know Joe Arden does "unhinged" better than anyone, and he did not disappoint here. Every emotion felt raw and authentic—Joe didn't just voice Dima; he became him. 👏🏼👏🏼
Part 2 of Dima and his little sparrow was an excellent read. I had a couple different emotions running through my mind. JA did an outstanding job with these characters and developing this story.
Hey everybody welcome back to another book review today, We are talking about an absolutely amazing sequel which with call me freak again. Can I just say first off? I absolutely love it when we get an unhinged Joe Arden audiobook narration. I thought that he was unhinged in the first book, but Joe absolutely just 10,000% playing Dima again. Whenever Dima is having his inner monologue with himself, that’s probably the most unhinged version of Joe Arden I have ever heard. We also have the amazing Lucy Rivers returning for this as Natalia. I loved the healing that Natalia does throughout this book. If you all remember from book one, somethings had happened to Natalia that broke her. But thought out this book with Dima by her side she is finally able to heal from it. She and Dima have so many heartfelt moments together that show how much they mean to each other and love one another. Natalia has some great scenes in this book as well. She is not as unhinged as Dima, but she definitely shows why you don’t touch what’s her’s. As so, many of you know Lucy Rivers is one of my top five female narrators when it comes to audiobooks She’s an instant buy if I see that she is the female narrator, especially when it comes to duets style audiobooks or multi-cast . The same thing goes for Joe if I see that he is in a duet style audiobook or in a multi cast, it’s immediately at the cart. I absolutely loved the beginning prologue in the story with Dimitri, breaking the fourth wall and talking to us as the audience, and’s something I had never really seen in a dark romance before so I thought JA Roles including that was a cherry on top of this amazing story. Everyone involved in the story bluenose audio, author JA Roles, Joe and Lucy. I just wanna say that you all absolutely brought 1,000,000% when creating this. There are so many twists and turned though out book. I was so excited whenever I listened to call me freak last year and saw that there was a sequel. and I actually think I remember talking with JA about whether the sequel was going to get an audiobook and her response was just I guess I’ll have to see next year.
There’s something really special about Dmitry. I don't even know what it is about him. It's just something. I don’t think it’s as simple as calling this book his redemption arc. It’s deeper than that. He’s still morally gray. Still broken. Still makes choices that should make you question him… and yet, underneath all of that, he’s just a sad little boy buried within a man who’s been hurting for a long time and just wants to be loved. And somehow, this story makes you feel that in every possible way.
Call Me Freak Again picks up where book one dropped you on a cliff and doesn’t let you catch your breath with every blindsiding twist and reveal. While the first installment was heavy on emotion, this book takes the reader on a revenge-fueled mission where Dima and Natalia are no longer victims.
Lucy Rivers as Natalia, Dima's little sparrow was just simply beautiful. Her voice has this softness, this melodic quality that pulls you in. Her accent work is effortless and adds such a richness to Natalia that makes you feel her heart in every scene.
And then there’s Joe Arden. This is, without question, one of the most awe-inspiring performances of his I’ve ever listened to. The way he captures Dmitry’s mind, the shifts, the inner dialogue, the instability, the control and lack of it all at once...it’s unreal. There were so many moments where I just sat there, staring at nothing, trying to process what I had just heard. His accent. His emotional range. The way he makes you care about a character who, on paper, you might not forgive…
And that’s the thing about this story. J.A. Roles doesn’t make it easy. You’re constantly questioning is he a bad man? Or is he a good man who’s made terrible choices for reasons that almost make sense?
By the end, this duet is wrapped up in a way I never could have predicted. Not neat. Definitely not expected. But right. And everything our Dima and Natalia deserve.
I genuinely do not think I will ever have the words to fully explain the impact that Call Me Freak and Call Me Freak Again by Jodi Rolls have had on my life. This was not just a story to me. It was survival. Years ago, after having my son through IVF, I experienced postpartum bipolar disorder caused by the extreme hormone treatments involved in the process. During one of the darkest moments of my life, when I truly did not think I was going to make it through, I stumbled across Jodi completely by accident online. She mentioned that her book had just released on audio, and on a whim, I decided to listen. That decision changed my life. The moment I heard Dmitri’s character brought to life by Joe Arden, especially the way he portrayed the fractures in Dmitri’s psyche through distinct accents and emotional delivery, I immediately felt seen in a way I never had before. Combined with Lucy Rivers’ incredible narration and Jodi’s devastatingly raw writing, this story reached into places in me that nothing else could. Dmitri and Natalia are beautifully broken characters whose struggles, trauma, healing, and love feel painfully real. Their journey is heartbreaking, hopeful, emotional, and unforgettable. The mental health representation hit me harder than I can explain because it made me feel less alone during a time when I desperately needed that. And then Call Me Freak Again somehow gave me even more. More depth. More emotion. More healing. More perspective. More reasons to keep going. This series is devastatingly beautiful, emotionally intense, and one of the most meaningful stories I have ever experienced. It is the reason I became such a passionate advocate for indie authors, narrators, and storytelling as a whole. I can honestly say this book saved my life. If you have not listened to these audiobooks yet, I cannot recommend them enough. Put them at the top of your TBR immediately.
This is book 2 and you HAVE to read Call Me Freak first! This was dark, emotional and completely consuming. Jodieeee😭😭😭 Thank you for giving us more of Dima.
This is a dark psychological thriller romance filled with trauma, obsession, revenge and damaged characters trying to survive the weight of their pasts. THE EMOTIONAL INTENSITY IN THIS 😭. It hit hard.
The MMC, our Dima, is deeply troubled and carrying so much pain from his childhood abuse and this book does not shy away from the impact that trauma has had on him. I loved getting more of his story and seeing him try to control his crazy. The FMC sees his darkness and loves him anyway. She matches him in a way that made their connection feel intense and raw. Their shared traumas and pains really deepens their connection. The way they stand beside each other, protect one another and ultimately take back power from the people who hurt them?!?! I love these two so much. I loved getting to see them heal and get their HEA. It was everything. Sooooo beautifully written.
The audiobook was amazing. Joe Arden brought Dima to life and really made me feel like I was in the character’s headspace. He and Lucy Rivers were absolutely phenomenal in this and made me feel every emotion that the characters were experiencing.
If you love dark psychological romances with traumatized characters, morally gray dynamics and couples who find understanding in each other’s darkness…this story is for you. 🔪🔥
I read and listened to Call Me Freak & Call Me Freak Again in both eBooks and audiobooks and back to back for the most cohesive experience for this duet.
First and foremost, NODODY DOES CRAZY LIKE JOE ARDEN!! Let me start there, his take on Dimitry (Dima) was absolutely suburb and made the audiobook an amazing experience. Secondly Lucy Rivers you are a literal GODDESS and I adore your narrations so much, and the fact that both audiobooks were duet narration with the two of you made for the most divine listening experience. However, either of the narrator would have done as well without the fantastic story from JA Roles. This duet was captivating, and kept me page turning and at no time was I ever bored or felt like I was disengaging from the story. Plot twists, danger, a thrilling where the hell is this story going plotline, and characters that kept me fully engaged! I also caught that sneaky little ending of book 2 and I will have to admit, I for sure want to be apart of the book that fully explores the content of Grampa's journal and I will be first in line to read it! While I will say this story is not for everyone, it does have some deep dark themes and the trigger warnings should defiantly be read prior to engaging with both books and is intended for 18+ audiences. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
This quote helped healed me so much last year when I read Call me Freak and I will never forget the relief it gave me to feel understood.
Dima is my favourite psycho and I was so excited to be back in his world and learn more about his and Natalia’s story.
So many secrets were uncovered in this book I was gasping and saying what no way out loud so many times.
Dima and Natalia will do anything for each other and truly would sacrifice themselves for each other just to keep the other safe. There love for each other is true and nothing will break it.
As always this is highly emotional story and both Joe and Lucy are outstanding in these roles.
Joe as Dima is truly breathtaking there isn’t an emotion that I don’t feel while listening. Dima really goes through so much more in this book and you really feel the battle in his head and the struggle he feels with events that happen.
Lucy as Natalia is such a beautiful performance she gives Natalia this tone that soft and innocent but he scene between Natalia and her mother was outstanding and Natalia really came into her self and showed that she is a fierce queen!!
Well, this series is written so phenomenally. I'm pretty much at a loss for words to describe how good this book is. Yes, it does have trigger warnings for the series but truthfully my emotions after reading this and listening to the audio version are just complicated. Not in a negative way at all but wow the feels that this book gives you are crazy! I am in awe of how beautifully written this story is. The author pretty much makes you fall in love with the characters, even with all of the crazy situations that are happening. I was completely engaged in the story for both books in the series. There were times I laughed a little, cried, feared for the characters, and honestly cheered for the characters. I really don't know any better words without giving spoilers. I not only read the book but listened to it via audible and holy cow, the voice actors did such an amazing job. Both of the voice actors have an amazing range with their acting and I could feel the emotions as if I was living what was happening in the book. I think that between the writing that the author did and the acting from the voice actors combined together makes this series one you must read! Phenomenally good!
I had the pleasure of receiving an ALC for the audiobook of Call me freak again from Blue Nose Audio and it did not disappoint. Between the amazing performances of Joe Arden and Lucy Rivers, to the emotional depth, character growth, and plot driven trauma that J.A. Roles absolutely mastered. The writing is raw and devastatingly beautiful, making you feel every single heartbreaking moment like you're there, feeling their pain along with them. Call me freak was great, but call me freak again was an elevation on Dima's story.
Joe Arden absolutely killed it, with flawless transitions between Dima's inner psycho and his real life persona.
Lucy Rivers as Natalia was a smashing performance, truly riding the line between the sweet caring girl and the woman that will no longer be pushed around and made to feel weak.
This story brings everything together, is fast paced, filled with action, trauma, heartbreaking memories and situations that leave you guessing and hoping that the outcome will be a happy one.
POV: you start this audiobook thinking it’ll just be another dark romance and suddenly you’re emotionally attached to a murderous Russian man who sings while dismembering people.
Joe and Lucy DEVOUR these narrations as Dima and Natalia. The performances were insane, but JAroles deserves her flowers because this writing??? Addictive.
Dima is actually unhinged in the best way possible. Violent, terrifying, absolutely feral for his sparrow… and somehow still had me giggling and kicking my feet.
And Natalia?? I loved getting more from her side this time. She’s not some helpless FMC — she matches the chaos, gets her hands dirty, and loves Dima just as fiercely. Their dynamic was EVERYTHING.
This book somehow gave: ✨ dark romance ✨ tension & heat ✨ comedy that had me wheezing ✨ emotional damage ✨ one of the most satisfying endings ever
I laughed, I gasped, I may have cried a little at the end.
Anyway, if toxic fictional men are your type and you love dark romance with humor and heart… read this immediately because I will NEVER shut up about it.
First, if you haven’t read Call Me Freak, the first in the duet, do that first. This is the continuation of Dima and Natalia’s story. And man it’s a deep and dark one. Definitely check your TW. But this book was so incredible. The way I needed this book and everything in it. From the spice, and when I say spice I mean some dang spice spice. To the healing. They needed alllll the healing. They endured so much throughout their whole lives and came out on the other side in love. The way Natalia understands and accepts Dima is so beautiful. And they way that man just be laying it all out there and would do absolutely any thing for her is heavenly. That’s a man in full!!! I listened to the audiobook with the always amazing and so incredibly talented Joe Arden and Lucy Rivers. They are so good together. They have amazing chemistry and both do an impeccable job at becoming the characters and really embodying them. Highly recommend!!
Narrated by Lucy Rivers and Joe Arden, this one hits different in your ears. I listen beginning to end in one sitting!
Dima’s devotion to Natalia is absolutely feral. The man isn’t just protective, if someone even breathes wrong in her direction, he’s ready to burn the entire world down and call it justice.
The story keeps your gripped from start to finish. It’s dark, intense, and packed with twists that keep you locked in. And those “oh shit” moments will have you spiraling a little.
Good luck hitting pause, because you’re going to need to know what happens next.
Thank you Blue Nose and J.A. Roles for this amazing listen
Call Me Freak by J.A. Roles is a dark psychological thriller romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Lucy Rivers and Joe Arden.
I was excited to dive back into this world. Dmitry and Natalia have been put through so much in their life. You can't help but root for them to find a form of happiness with each other. I loved getting both of their points of views throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.
Joe and Lucy did an amazing job on the narration. They both really know how to bring a story to life. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.
I would recommend this book if you're looking for a dark romance or psychological thriller.
J.A. Roles is an auto buy author for me and for good reason. The ability to have so many incredible well written stories is a true talent. I have been itching to get to this book and I made sure I would be able to read it in a day.
Lucy Rivers and Joe Arden were the perfect choices for these books. Lucy Rivers is so good at doing the voice of a woman that was wronged and is finding her strength. A woman that is done answering to men that would harm her and others. Joe Arden plays unhinged so perfectly along with someone that has survived his own kinds of trauma.
I loved both books and I can't wait to see what J.A. Roles comes out with next!
Call Me Freak Again is the second part of Dima and Nat’s story. This is a dark psychological romance. It can be a bit triggering for some. Dima will do anything to protect his little sparrow. Dima has his grandfather and his girl. Nat is the only person that keeps his mind sane. I loved getting the second part of their unconventional love story.
Lucy Rivers and Joe Arden do a phenomenal job narrating this book in duet style narration.
I remembered loving Call Me Freak and feeling so much for the characters but until Joe and Lucy put those first words back in your ears you forget how visceral and alive they make this story. I am back in it immediately and as painful as it is, I want to feel it all just like I did before.
This is such a beautiful ending to Dmitry and Natalia’s story. Audio was phenomenal and the story checked all the boxes. Highly recommend.
Call Me Freak Again is a dark, intense follow up that dives even deeper into Dima and Natalia’s twisted, powerful love. Dima’s devotion to his “sparrow” is fierce and all consuming, and the twists, trauma, and secrets in this book keep you hooked from start to finish.
Both characters grow so much. Dima finally learns who he really is, and Natalia becomes his equal in every way. The story is emotional, dark, spicy, and full of jaw dropping moments.
*Audiobook Review* Questions were answered. I still love our psychopathic Dima. He needs to be protected at all cost. Even if he's a bit unhinged. He loves hard for his people. The few who were truly good to him. Rollercoaster of emotions. Loved it.
Duet narration by Joe Arden and Lucy Rivers. I'll always enjoy a unhinged Joe. Lucy was wonderful as always.
The story was a nice conclusion to the call Me freak duet, all the questions from the previous story or answered in this second book the narration by Joe Arden and Lucy Rivers was just amazing, Joe really knows how to bring a story to life with cheer emotion and feeling with his narration. I was actually quite pleasantly surprised how the story ended. I didn’t expect for it to have an HEA aspect to it. Dema has had a lot of trials and tribulations in his past and seeks revenge as he continues on this roller coaster ride of the story. If you love the last book, you’ll really enjoy this one.
This was a twisted stalker romance with an undeniable bond between Dmitry and his sweet little sparrow, Natalia. No better duo could voice these two than @akalucyrivers and @therealjoearden. The demons that were faced by both Dmitry and Natalia were huge but they got the revenge they so desperately wanted and deserved. Is Dima completely unhinged? Yup. But he would fight anyone, even himself to keep Natalia safe. The ending for these two was chefs kiss , I would have cried huge ugly tears if it ended any other way.
