I don’t want a stepmom. But that doesn’t stop my dad from remarrying.
I don’t need a grandpa. But this new marriage comes with one.
I don’t want my mom to leave me with these people for three weeks. But she’s going on a work trip anyway. I might run into the gorgeous boy from the wedding that asked me to dance. I’m just not sure I’m ready to let my guard down. There’s too much at risk.
Thankfully I have Vianna and Natalie to help me get through all of this. They know the rules of how to play this game.
Sheri Duff writes contemporary family drama with a splash of humor from her home on a small acreage in Colorado. Having grown up a city-girl in suburbs of Denver, with her husband of twenty plus years, she now finds constant laughs in the midst of their new country lifestyle. Currently, Sheri waits impatiently for a new barn to hold her much dreamed of donkeys, which are sure to add to her stockpile of down-to-earth tales.
As much as I wanted to LOVE this book, I simply didn't for a couple reasons. One reason is that there were SO many errors that it totally distracted me from the flow of the plot. It is impossible for me to over numerous editing issues: extra words, the consistent use of "freshman" instead of "freshmen," an s added to words as though they were plural when they were not, and SO many more issues. I hate to go off on this but it is what kept my focus and distracted me from the story.
Super ending... but the first half was a slog and no mistake. Massie comes across as irritatingly self-centred, and she and her friends seem to be at least half as b-itchy as the stepmothers they hate. On the other hand the feel of Massie, Vannie and Natalie as late-teen girls is authentic, as are the issues they are wrestling with. Jack is a teeny bit too perfect , but Tyler is more balanced, and I have lost count of how many guys I've known who were exactly like Blake. The plot was very good and the supporting characters ditto. Second half pace was good. I make it 2* for the first half, which dragged. 3.5* for the second half and 4* for the finale, which I will admit I did not finish without looking for a tissue.
I believe that I'm a bit more mature than others and the characters in the book,I only got through a few pages and skimmed through the rest.
I really did not get or understand the female lead, Massie, She just came across as weak and spineless with no mind for herself. One can not make a perception of somebody just because of what your friends say and her two friends really pissed me off also. Yes, I get it , you do not like your step moms and all but at least encourage your friend to get know her step mother rather than behave like 5 year olds. Though the book says that these characters were about 16, they did not act like it and were not mature , especially the female lead.
I really lost my patience with this book. Do not waste your time.
I actually liked this book. From the cover of the the book, you would assume that this book was going to be a full blown romance novel. I actually found that to be far from the truth.
