In my previous life, I worked as a journalist and travelled the world. These days, you’re more likely to find me in my garden with a pen and paper than on a plane. I don't write in an old-fashioned way, but I still love to plan my plots and clues with something I can actually hold. When I head out into the Highlands, I usually bring a thermos of green tea and something vegan that is easy to pack for a picnic (I love eating!). And if this sounds familiar… well… yes. Admittedly, I am a bit like Brian. I like my drama and my snacks. But I’m also a bit like my other main character, Joana, who shares my name. I can be dry, often sarcastic, and sometimes a little annoying.
My stories are of course fiction, but they draw heavily on my real experiences in the Scottish hills. Thankfully, there aren’t nearly as many dead bodies in real life, though many of my quirkier characters are inspired by the wonderful people I’ve met.
I’ve chosen the Highland Coo as the symbol for The Highland Mysteries because, to me, there isn’t a more magnificent animal in the world. They are wild, beautiful, and never really tamed. Just like Scotland itself. (Plus their hairstyle looks pretty much like mine after a sleepless night of plotting, so they have my sympathy.)
While my books are full of secrets and the occasional corpse, I promise to skip the grisly details. I believe there’s enough gloom in the world already. My goal is to give you an escape: a clever twist, a bit of amusement, and a chance to laugh before you return to reality.

Brian Goodfellow is not happy that Joana Snowdon has moved out and, in his words, “left him.” Now living in Aberdeenshire Joana is attempting to settle in her new cottage but in the middle of trying to unpack boxes, grumpy Detective Chief Inspector, (DCI) Fraser appears at her door stating that he needs her help. Joana is surprised that he did not swallow his tongue saying those words as he has never been a fan or her or Brian. He continues by stating that Lord Montgomery Thistlewaite, owner of Craigenthistle Castle had created a boutique hotel to cover the costs of maintaining his castle. His new business venture, called Hearts and Houses Soirées, is a dating service for the upper class. The trouble is that two members have died and Fraser is sure the death were not accidents. He asks Joana and Brian to discreetly investigate the deaths. This mystery is set in a beautiful location and is well-written and quite entertaining. This time, photographers Joana and Brian are asked by their grumpy antagonist, Detective Fraser, to help figure out what’s going on amongst a lonely hearts club made up of elderly Scottish aristocrats who keep having “accidents”. I enjoy these books for easy reading and light humor.

A local Aristocratic dating agency is losing members- and not from natural causes. The members are usually upper class, come from “old money”, elderly and very discreet, and a scandal is to be avoided at all costs!
The deaths are clever, could be thought to be accidental, but DCI Fraser believes that foul play is involved.
Joana and Brian are asked to pose as photographers of High Society estates and houses, and gently question these people.
As ever, the dynamics between Joana and Brian will keep regular readers amused by their varied interactions, Brian is happy as long as he has vegan treats, Joana is in her element when her impulsive ideas come to fruition, eventually.!!
The Scottish scenery is always the star of the show, and Aberdeenshire has so many beautiful and historical castles to visit. The murderer is easily guessed, but that doesn’t really matter, there is great joy also in the eccentric and outlandish behaviour of the Scottish gentry, not to mention the two fine members of Police Scotland.!
DCI Fraser is still dyspeptic, but Joana is perhaps beginning to see him in a different light now. DC Murray still has all the characteristics of an over zealous and enthusiastic puppy!.

I enjoyed the book overall but I didn't find it quite as strong as the previous books in the series. It was an easy, entertaining read with the light humor I've come to expect, making it a pleasant cozy mystery to spend time with.
One aspect I missed was the opportunity to explore Scotland's famous landmarks. The earlier books made the setting feel like an adventure in itself, whereas this one felt more confined. I also found the limited interaction with DCI Fraser and Murray a bit disappointing as their exchanges with Joana and Brian have always been some of my favourite parts of the series and add plenty of humor and personality.
The mystery itself was enjoyable, although it felt as though Joana and Brian spent less time actively investigating than in previous books. As always, Joana was the clever, logical force behind solving the case, while Brian provided the comic relief with his good natured observations and antics.
Despite these minor disappointments, I still had a good time reading the book. It's a light, cosy mystery with likeable characters, light humor and engaging plot. While it may not be my favourite book in the series, it's still an enjoyable read for the fans of Joana Snowdon Scottish mysteries.

Another fun, Scotland set cozy murder mystery with photojournalists Joana Snowdon and Brian Goodfellow. Joana is the perceptive investigative leader of this duo; Brian is the heart of the comic and whimsical side, Joana's sidekick, and his antics always make me smile. Central figures like DCI Fraser and Constable Murray return (they appear throughout the series) but pompous Fraser, who has always in the past resented their interference in a case, actually solicits Joana's involvement this time. Numerous victims, some fatal, are tied to an aristocratic dating service hosted in an impressive castle and discretion is vital to the upper crust host and his clientele.
For those readers who love to see characters embracing the green lifestyle, Joana and Brian are vegans, tooling around in an electric car. Brian even considers himself a bit of a Highland Cow Whisperer because of his no meat philosophy; can the cattle really tell he's a vegan traveler and thus, no threat?!
Good pace, great principal characters. I'm definitely hooked on this series.

This was the first Joana Snowdon book I’ve read but when I got the cosy murder mystery vibes AND a highland coo on the cover, I was sold!
This was a fast paced and easy to read cosy murder mystery. It is book number 4 in the series but can be read as a standalone which I loved. I now have the rest of the series on my TBR list!
This story follows Joana Snowdon (love that the leading character is the author herself) after her move to Scotland and becoming a very helpful amateur investigator in the murders of the prim and proper! The setting is beautiful and I love that it’s based in Scotland, we’re so lucky to live in a place as beautiful as this country and for it to give amazing backdrops for stories!
I had absolutely no clue who dunnit until it was revealed and I would never had guessed it in a million years, didn’t even cross my mind until that point!
I enjoyed following Joana and Brian in their adventures and can’t wait to dive into another one soon. I think Joana Snowdon has now been added to my list of favourite cosy murder mystery authors!

Joana and Brian are back st their sleuthing in this tinder for the financially elite cosy mystery. The blending of modern day matchmaking with what we typically think of a regency London was brilliantly executed. Of course you have Joana, the steady, thoughtful, eye for detail partner, and Brian, who happens to stumble upon important information or evidence by sheer chance - and we love him for it!! These two make a humorous and idyllic duo as they scour the Highlands for culprit responsible for this latest string of injuries and murders. The fact that Fraser is encouraging (as opposed to chastising) them this time is really a coo. Hold on tight as they zip from one picturesque scene to the next, and meet the most varied set of nobility I can imagine. I look forward to Joana's next adventure where she tries her hand sans Brian. We'll have to wait and see how it goes. For now, kick back and enjoy the journey.

I enjoyed this book so much hence it receives one of my very rare 5 stars!
I've read so many cozy murder mysteries, this one stood out so much due to the main characters Brian Goodfellow and Joana Snowdon (same name as the author). Brian was hilarious and the dynamic the pair had was so funny and adorable! The other characters were also great such as Murray the overly enthusiastic police officer. I also was delighted to know from the author’s note that many of tye characters were based on people she knew. I loved the descriptions of the Scottish setting, the castles 🏰 and the quaint elderly lords and ladies!
The main characters have just moved from London to Aberdeenshire and it's not long before mysterious deaths begin! Mostly to the attendees of the Hearts and Houses Soirees, a lonely heart club for the wealthy and mostly senior community.
I'll be checking out more by this author as it gets total respect for being able to keep my short attention span brain entertained the whole way through!

I've read so many cozy murder mysteries, this one stood out so much due to the main characters Brian Goodfellow and Joana Snowdon (same name as the author). Brian was hilarious and the dynamic the pair had was so funny and adorable! The other characters were also great such as Murray the overly enthusiastic police officer. I also was delighted to know from the author’s note that many of tye characters were based on people she knew. I loved the descriptions of the Scottish setting, the castles 🏰 and the quaint elderly lords and ladies!
The main characters have just moved from London to Aberdeenshire and it's not long before mysterious deaths begin! Mostly to the attendees of the Hearts and Houses Soirees, a lonely heart club for the wealthy and mostly senior community.
I'll be checking out more by this author as it gets total respect for being able to keep my short attention span brain entertained the whole way through!

Respectable Murders is the latest mystery by Joana Snowdon. I enjoy this series even more with each book! This time our duo of photographer/crime solvers is tasked with finding out who is killing elderly Scottish aristocrats. I found myself laughing out loud so many times while reading this book. Joana has moved to Scotland and before she can even unpack Detective Inspector Fraser needs her help to solve a murder related to a dating service for elderly Scottish aristocrats. This leads to some hilarious moments including Brian becoming a heartthrob for a group of lonely old ladies! Part of the reason I enjoy this series so much is because it is so funny. Yes, they are solving crimes, but there is so much humor in Joana and Brian's relationship and their interactions with the police that I laughed out loud numerous times! Thank you Joana Snowdon for another great mystery!

Joana has now moved to Scotland, much to her pal Brian’s dismay. To their amazement, Chief D.I. Fraser comes to them to ask for their help in investigating suspicious deaths. The deaths are among the very upper class and the situation calls for tact that Fraser is not known for. Joana and Brian are on the case which involves elderly upper class men and women attending events like a Tinder for the rich and old. Two deaths could be accidental, but the victims are also receiving black edged cards announcing their funerals.
Brian and Murray are hilarious as ever and the mystery kept me guessing. I loved the scene with the Highland coo! This is the latest addition to this wonderful series, but could certainly be read as a standalone. I loved the characters and the Scottish setting.

Just as the title suggests, this is a real cozy mystery.
Absolutely not my usual genre of book, but I'd heard good things about this series, and who doesn't love a cozy mystery set in beautiful surroundings!?
Joana, as ever, is the brains and Brian the comical sidekick, though I was a little worn down with the frequency of hearing that he's vegan, but then again, that's what all vegans do - remind you constantly!
The duo are sent to investigate some mysterious deaths and injuries among the upper classes, and the story has you wondering where it's going, and who the murderer could be, until right at the very end when the truth is revealed.
I found the ending to be quite reminiscent of an episode of Scooby Doo, but it didn't take away from the story itself. It was easy to read, follow and savour.
All in all, a very enjoyable cozy mystery, lots of humour, a bit of slapstick and good writing skills!

Respectable Murders (The Highland Mysteries Book 4) by Joana Snowdon has DCI Fraser in need of their service. He needs photographers Joana and Brian to ask questions at Lord Montgomery's blue-blooded Highland matchmaking events where guests are dying. These two don’t take themselves too seriously so they are perfect to ask the questions that might ruffle some feathers at the event. Of course the deaths do not stop but Joana and Brian continue to stay with the plan, disagreeing on much but managing to keep themselves alive. A smooth pace story with two unique amateur sleuths who somehow manage to catch killer while often being at odds with each other. I won’t take sides since I like them both, often agreeing with even when their opinions are different. However, they do stick together when it counts. Expect clues that may not seem important but are, humor and Scottish aristocracy.

I was able to enjoy the ARC from NetGalley of Respectable Murders by Joana Snowdon. I’ll preface this by saying this is a part of series so some of the in-jokes and character histories were lost on me however I didn’t find overall it detracted from my reading experience. It’s a briskly paced, light in tone/cozy murder mystery in the vein of Agatha Raisin or the Thursday Murder Club following a whodunnit amongst the aged aristocracy in the Scottish Highlands who are looking for love and infusions of cash for floundering estates.
The FMC Joana and her semi-obnoxious (but endearingly so) sidekick Brian have terrific banter. The settings are lavish estates and they were gorgeous in my minds eye. While this is by no means high brow literature or even particularly devious crime/mayhem it perfectly fills the void for fun popcorn style reading - it would be an excellent vacation read.

3 1/2 stars. This was a fast-paced, humorous mystery. Joana and Brian enjoy a little revenge when DCI Fraser asks for their help in a murder investigation after yelling and lecturing them in previous books to stay out of police affairs. He wants them to "infiltrate" a matchmaking group for older aristocrats and moneyed people who been having a surprising amoung of accidents and deaths at their events. What follows is humor, engaging banter, and danger all on the way to bring in another killer.
It has been fun having a new mystery almost every month for these two. I hope it continues. This has fast become one of my favorite series.

This is the fourth book in this series that I have read and is as enjoyable as the first one. This book feels like watching a BBC show about the aristocracy but with humor and a good mystery. Once again Joanna kept me guessing as to who the real killer was. Each new suspect you meet has a motive and is hiding something.
What I love about this book series is that each one has it's own unique feel but the characters you have come to know and love are there through all the books. By now Joanna and Brian are like a part of the family. Reading about their further adventures is like sharing time with good friends.

Respectable Murders by Joana Snowdon is the 4th book in this series, but it can be read as a stand-alone because I did and enjoyed the book. This is the first book that I have read by this author and I feel that I will be reading more from her. The plot and characters are well developed. Each of the main characters have very distinct personalities that you will either love - or not. The interaction among these characters is sometimes comical, sometimes serious, but overall enjoyable.
I received a copy of this book from the author and I always review every book that I read. I enjoyed this one - trying to figure out "whodunit" and not always succeeding! I recommend this book and I am planning to read more in this series and others by this author.

Joana Snowdon has moved to a small cottage in Aberdeenshire & has her friend Brian visiting. Joana is a professional photographer & has been asked to take formal photos of both people and places, DCI Fraser arrives at her front door whilst she is still unpacking, not even found the kettle yet! He wants her & Brian to do some quiet investigating after a death and a few other oddities have happened at the soirées held at Craigenthistle Castle by Lord Montgomery Thistlethwaite. An interesting book indeed. I find the title amusing, how can any murder be Respectable? The aristocratic people responded to their questions better than they did the police ones.

Respectable Murders is Book 4 in the Scottish Castle Cozy Mystery by Joana Snowdon. When I read this Scottish mystery, I get a peek in what Scotland must be like with all of the castles and landscape. Joana has bought a little cottage and Brian is having none of it… so funny. DCI Fraser asked for help when the high class are having deadly accidents at Lord Montgomery's castle. Joana and Brian are armed with their camera and jump right into a new mystery. Joana and Brian are excellent main characters. DCI Fraser is a serious character and I believe this cozy should be on your TBR list. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.

Brian getting social media advice from the senior lady had me Lmao. Brian and Joana are looking into the death of elderly people who were trying to maintain a facade of wealth until they remarry to afford their castle's upkeep. The death notices prior to the events really creeped me out and made me see it was a great deal to do with power -wielding it as THEY wanted it- sic! Each book is better than the previous one. Gripping and intriguing!! So many misdirection and red herrings that I was happily clueless until the reveal.

I absolutely loved this book! This was my first experience with Joanna Snowdon's writing, and it definitely won't be my last. A friend of mine recently got back from a vacation touring Scotland, and after seeing all of her beautiful pictures, this book was exactly the kind of cozy Scottish vibe I was looking for.

Respectable Murders is the 4th book in the Highland Mystery series. Almost as soon as Joanna moves to Scotland DCI Fraser is knocking on her door asking for help. Soon the pair are up to their eyeballs in Scottish castles and aristocracy. This is a delightful cozy mystery. I could tell from the first page I would love the characters with their quick and snarky humor. I quickly found myself laughing or snorting out loud every few pages. The story was fun to puzzle out and the situations are just hilarious. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

This is such a fun series and this is another cracker. Fraser asks Joana and Brian to investigate as it seems some aristocratic people are dying after attending some soirees. This is very easy to read. The characters are fun, particularly Brian who is so clumsy yet quite tech savvy while Joana is the more level headed one. I figured out the real twist quite early but enjoyed how it gradually was figured out although the extent of this was not as obvious to me at the time. Respectable Murders is a Superb story and series about Joana Snowdon and her friend Brian Goodfellow. They were asked by DCI Fraser who asks them to help investigate as some wealthy guests are dying after attending Blue Blooded Highland Matchmaking Events. There are many twists and turns throughout and some surprising events. But what will be uncovered and can they uncover the truth?
I enjoyed reading this story very much and I highly recommend that you read this book and series.

Respectable Murders was an interesting, fun book about a rich socialist's dating club but they keep ending up in trouble! Joana and Brian help out by going undercover in this entertaining book. It is a few into the series (4 maybe?) but each one can be read as a standalone, though I have enjoyed and recommend them all!
