I really ended up liking this series far more than I thought I would, which is a very good thing. The characters were all quirky and fun and lovable and very memorable. I had so much fun with this series and so very glad I decided to continue reading it.

Fated by Donna Augustine is the third book in the Karma series, and the more I read, the more I am loving it.

Things are changing and not all of them are for the better.

Are people all good or all bad? What about the gray area in between the black and white?

Is an apocalypse coming? Can they stop it? Are they even supposed to?

The Jinxes saved her and now they have become her posse. She will need them. They bop around on skateboards and act like a bunch of teenagers. We all know they are not. Who knows how old they are?

I love the humorous writing mixed in with the seriousness.

Karma even meets the Gods.

Another god having a temper tantrum in less than a week? I’d either been created at a bad time or these folks needed some anger management classes.

The fight against good and evil rages on, but the romantic love story traverses time. Plenty of sexual tension, spice and heat as Karma struggles to come to terms with a love that will not, cannot be denied.

AND THAT FRIGGIN’ ENDING. OMG! It almost had me in tears and I was blown away by such a surprisingly fabulous ending. That makes this over the top and a five star read for sure. I am so invested in this series, I don’t know how I’ll be able to wait for Dead Ink, Lar’s Story. I recommend the series be read in order.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Fated by Donna Augustine.

Fated is an absolutely stunning conclusion to the Karma series by Donna Augustine; it left me with goosebumps. Literally.

Perhaps some people who have been drawn into the 'action' of this series will be a little disappointed, as the majority of this book deals with the characters, rather than out-and-out action, but personally, that's what I love. I love the depth that Ms Augustine has put into these 'people' and their interactions are what make me tick. I love that she's written some of them so frustratingly blind (see the gestures, already, karma!) and the touching way that some of the tougher characters are shown in this without losing their hard edges.

A fantastic little read that I couldn't put down. I will definitely be re-reading this whole series, because it's something special. And that ending... just oh yes!

Karma’s getting more competent in her new immortal, hopefully temporary, ruling the universe, role while still clinging on to her human conscience as much as inhumanly possible. But there’s a big problem with the world and to say it’s going to hell in a hand basket is a gross understatement. The human society is becoming more volatile, everyday crime is on the rise and it seems no one is safe. Even the members of the UFU, Unknown Forces of the Universe, whose job it is to actually run the universe are scratching their heads. Karma wonders if it has something to do with the evil doer Malokin and the things he forced her to do to save a colleague, she’s hoping by righting those wrongs the world will go back on it’s axis. At least she’s got sexy Fate, her sometimes lover and constant nemesis, to help her, although resisting him in such close proximity is doubtful at best, futile at worst. She just knows something’s got to give to save the world.
The third in Donna Augustine’s Karma series continues the dystopian, earth shattering action of her preceding episodes, answering questions raised during the first two novels both relationship and cosmic wise with spine-tingling action, laugh-out-loud humor and sizzling romance. Her eclectic stable of memorable immortal characters never ceases to amaze and she gives some hints of possible tales to come. Her take no prisoner dialogue fit the devastating scenes and the raw emotion of the story. But its her stars Karma and Fate that really steal the show furthering their unique courtship that features some palpable sexual banter leading to explosive passion between the sheets and culminates in an awesome ending.
Thank you Donna for this fantastic fable I hope to see more of this out of this world series.

I am so annoyed at this book and the author!!
Firstly I feel like the series has just ended when it has so much more potential. I feel like I wanted to know more about Karma's previous lives and that has been stolen from me and we only got a few lines about them when they kept being hinted at. There was very limited action as opposed to the other books it was all about Karma and Fates romance and I have to say this was one of the most annoying romances that I have read, we hate each other but we love each other argh!!!
What was the point involving the Greek God Ares for at all it added nothing to the story whatsoever. There was no explanation about what Fate really was and I really wanted to know Paddy's real name.
The book just felt like the author didn't know how to finish off the series.

Please take note, this review contains spoilers.
Also I’m reviewing the trilogy together. Hence the third star (for the first book in the series).

So if you’ve read the blurbs, and other reviews you basically know the summary, and I won’t repeat all that here. What really pissed me off and made me want to give this entire trilogy a half star in total, was the watery, wispy, LIMP excuse we were given at almost the last ten percent of the third book by one of the 4 controllers, (turns out one of Paddy’s colleagues was the traitor) as to why everything was happening the way it was and why Camilla or karma kept being the game changer, and targeted (by the traitor in order to hide her silly mistake) and why Fate kept seeing her death or annihilation.
This ending together with the non existent page time we got with the h and H got me noticing other problems with the book that up until then I’d been oblivious about since I was focused on the story line. The truce between the evil guy and their fraction for example, that part with the heroine doing the tstl routine and walking off on her own was in itself pretty silly, but it was fate rescuing her from being gang raped and thus breaking the truce and making the world fall into havoc was even sillier. If anyone had broken the truce it was the malekon guy, I mean I know the writer was trying to bring a device to break the truce but she did it very badly. The whole truce thing was senseless. The writer’s clumsy attempt at trying to show how the hero would choose the heroine over any and all his codes and scruples. Which is commendable in all heroes but which was executed especially badly in this instance.
Also the world building. The glaring problem with the world building in this book, (there were bigger more pertinent problems however this one kind of annoyed me more than the rest), was the whole if-you-decide-to-stay-on-earth-you-can’t- move-on-to-the-great-beyond. This premise just creates so many hiccups. Especially in our time when we know that even earth itself can’t be infinite. Which begs the question, which idiot dead spirit or paranormal being would choose to be stranded on an eventually dying planet rather than moving on? It makes their whole structure as so inadequate. Inadequately intelligent, powerful, etc. Also earth needs paranormals, why can’t they stay here as long as they wish and move on when they’re good and ready?
So the big deal! with the heroine turns out to be simply this: paddy’s colleague thought (I can’t remember her name) that she’d made a mistake when she’d allowed the heroine to be created the first time (she’d been repeatedly recycled through the centuries) , and by trying to hide it from the others through the millennia, instead of coming clean, she’d therefore made it possible for the forces of evil to organically be created and take form. She wanted to annihilate the heroine to cover her tracks and destroy the evil consequences of her repeated lies. Why her karma wasn’t oozing out of her we’ll never know. And after all the hoopla we don’t even get to know what happens to her. Not mysterious just annoying.

I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys original, exceptionally imaginative, paranormal urban fantasies.

We weren't a couple, but friends didn't spoon every night. Fate and I were officially in relationship-no-man's-land.

FATED BY Donna Augustine is an absolutely awesome ending to Karma's and Fate's story within the author's Karma series. I have been totally engrossed with this couple's story since the very beginning, and was nothing short of wowed by the thrilling perfection of this conclusion. I experienced a multitude of emotions listening to FATED from swooning, laughing, crying, nail-biting anticipation and indescribable horror.

First of all, please know that this is one of those series that absolutely must be read in order. Just do yourself a favor and start this series with the first book. That's not a bad thing as each book has been fantastic.

I loved both Karma and Fate. Karma has evolved into a strong-willed, witty, kick-ass character and Fate was a smokin' hot male lead. I think Fate was even sexier this book as the cracks in his obstinate, tough-guy persona exhibited definite cracks where Karma was concerned. Together, they made a great fighting team with chemistry galore. Their dialogue ranged from downright funny to orgasmic experiences and I ate it up.

Favorite colorful supporting characters returned. I thoroughly enjoyed the antics of the Jinxes, Cupid, Mother, Santa, Luck, Murphy's Law and so many others. The villains still made my skin crawl as the world dissolves into anarchy with their help. The original gods figure prominently in this plotline also.

Angel Clark capably narrated this installment as she has the previous books. She delivered another solid performance. Her voice for the villains was as chilling as ever and she delivered the wonderful spots of humor with aplomb. As before, I squeezed in some extra workouts and other listening times as I was so engrossed in the story and characters.

I can't wait to listen to the next book in this series, DEAD INK. I'm holding out for the audio edition as I've listened to this entire series and prefer to continue doing so. DEAD INK will focus on the story of tattoo artist and ex-grim reaper Lars, and Faith, a murder victim. The author has stated that DEAD INK runs parallel to FATED's timeline.

FATED kept the adrenaline climbing with plenty of paranormal awesomeness, thrilling suspense, swoon-worthy romance, heat, and humor. There is nothing that falls short in this book. The OMG SAY IT ISN'T SO jaw-dropping ending took me completely by surprise; I would have crumpled to a weepy mess, if it hadn't been for one of the best epilogues ever. Just thinking about the epilogue still leaves me with a smile. I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys original, exceptionally imaginative, paranormal urban fantasies.

Lost

Somewhere along the way, the story got lost. The driving force that made first two books great was gone on this one. It would be unfair to rate the great first of this series especially if another book eventually follows.
Word to the wise. Skip this book. If Ms. Augustine ever writes a sequel with the same souls, by all means read a quick summary but, for the love of books, don't read this one.

This "conclusion" is the least satisfactory loose-end tie-up ever. It makes absolutely no sense. It's like everything was just thrown together. Like a rough draft with potential ideas all "train accidented" into something that will conclude the story line. No rhyme. No reason. It's like anything that could ever possibly ruin a story thrown into one miserable ending. This trilogy that could have been epic.

Seriously, don't read Fated, imagine your perfect ending and move on to a new author and a new series.

This review was written in early 2018.
Maybe the author find a way to fix this. By 2019 check other reviews up see if there is another book.
(And the Lars love story, Dead Ink, doesn't count.)

There. I've said my piece. If you read Fated, it isn't my fault.

Say it ain't so. Has the end of the Karma series arrived? I was so enjoying these characters, definitely wanted at least two more books. Karma is one of those really cool female characters that you just enjoy reading. Really liked the sexual tension between Karma and Fate, but I'm a little torn. Normally, I'm not a big fan of the "will they won't they get together" plot lines, especially where it's the primary plot subplot and all others are weakened as a result. Because it was the last book in a great series, with a lot of potential, I felt it was wrapped up too quickly. The writing was excellent, the humor and sarcasm was right on, and added perfectly to the tension. Absolutely recommend this book, but more for selfish reasons ... the more people that read this, the better the chance DA revisits Karma, Fate, the Jinxes, Luck, Murphy and Cupid. Way too much fun to end.

My only complaint was how rushed the end was. After 2.5 books of build up, I wanted to experience more of Fate and Karma together after them always being at odds. There were a few things I felt were left unfinished and I have some lingering questions, chiefly among them being what's the deal with Nash and why should Karma recognize him? Beyond that, it was a wonderful read.

I really enjoyed the first book. The second book was fun but not as great and this book was hard to get through. Karma acted like a 15 year old having tantrums through most of the book. She was no longer a smart fun character but immature and jealous. She made stupid decisions and got mad when Fate helped her. At one point I was hoping she would die so I could move on to my next book.

The last book in the main trilogy featuring Karma was a little disjointed for me. It felt like there wasn't a clear plan for the third book (and possibly part of the second, if I remember correctly). The series ending and reveals in this final book were very anti-climactic. The trilogy as a whole has a lot of the elements I love in a Donna Augustine book/series, but it feels like these were the beginner books from a newer author that hadn't quite come into their own yet. Those signature elements are much better utilized in later series' by this author, and are just seeds in this one. The first book in the trilogy was the best for m-not unusual for me with trilogies in general, but in this case I think objectively the first book is best and it peters out from there. I will read the spin-off book focusing on side characters Lars and Faith, after a little break.

This was 4-stars because I had mixed feeling about the story line

The fun that was in the 1st book, and the beginning of the 2nd, was no where to be found! It was much darker! Through most of the book I was not thrilled with the storyline. It seemed that the protagonist went through unnecessary pain and degrading situations. Yet it kept me reading. And there was payoff at the end.
If you are reading this series for some light hearted fun stick to the 1st book "Karma" if you're ready to get into some gritty, dark storyline embrace all 3 books "1. Karma, 2. Jinxed, and 3. Fated" It all comes full circle!

Good Series

This was my favorite book in the series by far. I loved the playfulness of Fate in the beginning and the tension between him and Karma was delicious. I did get a little frustrated with the continued lack of communication but the positives definitely outweighed the negatives, in my opinion. I also really loved the ending but I wanted more because I am greedy. Overall, I enjoyed this series.

2.5-2.75 stars

This was a super disappointing ending to a good series. This felt very YA at times with all the angst. I get the alpha male thing and that’s fine, but this book took it pretty far at times. Not a fan of the repetition of all of these things either. I felt like the storyline took a backseat to all the teen drama in this one. The last chapter before the epilogue just made me want to throw my kindle. Rounding up to 3 stars is super generous. Enough said.

I liked the idea of Karma and Fate and Luck being individuals to helped to keep the world in balance. Even the idea of a less than noble being trying to imbalance things into his chaotic favor was cool. What I don't like is that it quickly became a romance book. I'm over half way thru the book and I can't really tell you want it's about other than the relationship between these two Wise and Aged and Superior beings who can't talk about their feelings but keep getting into situation like only-one-bed-available. Cliche and weak.

Loved the idea and the universe of it all... I think it had a lot of potential but....
Hated 2 things, one the cheesy relationship between fate/karma, I get it was important but could have taken less space in the books.... And 2 the ending of the book.... the last part felt to me like the way someone would end an assignment because they ran out of time...

Anyways I had more fun reading this series than expected... And the first book was free :P

Just as amazing as every other book in this series. The romance part played way more into this than others, but it was building from book one so it was at least understandable. I just wish the kick ass karma could have gotten a little more airtime. Either way, wonderful and entertaining read.

I've been reading a lot of Donna Augustine's books recently and her more newer ones are really good. That's why I tried this series and unfortunately it was not up to par.

First book was a good solid start. Karma was a great character and her work as a successful lawyer and how it gave her moxie and shrewdness was very intriguing. She was able to hold her own in a new world of immortals. Her relationship with Fate was also intriguing.

Second book was a decline. She lost her lawyer smarts and her whole blackmail situation was hard to read. But at least she held on to her humanity. I liked that her reasons for avoiding Fate were legit though, and I liked getting to knowvthe rest of the office.

Third book was a bit of a disaster. I think the end of the world environment took out everything enjoyable in the series. The stakes were way too high and the execution was really not good. Nothing made sense and all the action was disjointed. Karma is no longer recognizable as the same character.....she devolves in intelligence, acts like a high school girl most of the time, and loses her empathy.

A lot of the scenes did not make sense at all and there were so many inconsistencies.

She almost gets gang raped at a convenience store and barely reacts. It's now a world where women are being dragged off the street by gangs of men, but a few chapters later Karma and her friend are at a bar full ofvthe worst of the worst. Her friend was dresses up and looking for a hookup. Are we supposed to believe there was no trouble??? She never thinks about her old friends in her new apocalyptic world, remembers her parents way too late, and never mentions her old name or career again.

Her old fiance is still a hang up though just to further the romance plot. What even happened to the soulmate thing? Are Fate and Karma soul mates? Why was he always keeping tabs on her previous lives? She never even mentioned how she felt about that weird ass confession. There were so many hints about their romance that lead to literally nothing. There was no real emotion in their relationship either and the lack of communication went too far. Why was Karma so dense about everything even with her lawyer skills? The ending was rushed and I don't see the point about recarnated Hitler.

What an ending!!!!

Lol This book felt the longest of them all and I loved every minute of it. This series was great! I really enjoyed it and loved the characters. They really were so well written and I loved how everything comes to gather. I was really surprised to find out how karma was created and that whole ending kind of blew me away. I loved it! It really did surprise me at the end though and I'm glad it turned out like that although I didn't quite understand who the guy in the theater was at the very end. Anyways I'd love for this story to keep going and read more adventures about karma and fate when they .. well I can't say more it could ruin it for you. So let me just say if you read the other books then you have got to read this one. It ends the whole war and ties up all the lose ends, well at least where fate and karma are concerned. There is a book after this about the tattoo shop gang I will be reading, but I do hope there are more later about everyone, the whole gang so to speak. A book about the jockey could be really interesting actually or about the new guy who manages everything hmmm actually stories about all of them might be really good.
Anyways you just chat go wrong reading this series, but start at book one or you will miss out on so much fun and a really different kind of story. Let me also say I love the way Ms. Augustine writes! For me it was like going into the story and being there and seeing it all play out, it was so well written you are pulled into the book, and it was very hard to put down. That is my favorite kind of book. I will be reading more from this author that's for sure.

Heather's Notes
I probably wouldn't give this one star if I didn't have to. Karma did nothing Karmic in this book all. How can you be Karma and not give out Karma. The entire book was all Fate didn't love her and so she shouldn't sleep with him, only he does love and it takes her the entire book to figure it out (I figured it out in book 1). Oh and lets not forget the part where the other side tries to rape her but then Fate broke the truce by killing them. Seriously?? A truce means you don't mess with me and I don't mess with you. Not let me rape you but that is ok because your not dead. There are a lot of women out there that would consider rape worse than death. Then she dies and decides to come back as a person (seriously??). So of course Fate dies to?? (I don't know and they don't tell us) and and come back as a person to be with her. Then the epilogue is them living out their human lives before they may go back to the agency. Oh yea and lets not forget the "man" (who we are not told who it is) she goes and talks to in the theater. How did he not die?? The ending of this book was awful and the series had such potential.

The battle between light and dark rages on as Karma continues to fight for survival. But what if the world was no longer light and dark, what if gray was now an option?

How far is Karma willing to go to right her wrongs, when her life is on the line?

Karma, the balance between good and evil, must help hold the line, but what if her anger has propelled her in a different direction?

How much pain and suffering can one being take before they snap?

Emotions run high as she tries desperately to figure Fate out, who was he? What was he? She teeters on the edge of wanting and not wanting to know, so what’s a girl to do?

Do what she’s always done.... fight. Until she doesn’t have any fight remaining. Then what, surely he will give in first?

Recommended for Paranormal romance lovers. Not a stand alone.

So, this marks the end of the story for Fate and Karma, I suppose. The fourth book seems to focus on Lars and Faith, a girl who I found quite intriguing after briefly seeing her through Karma's eyes.

In any case, I thought the prolonged push and pull in the relationship between the two was a bit boring, but the revelation about Karma's origin was definitely interesting. However, the way the battle between the two forces ended felt a bit anticlimactic. I was expecting more!

Still, I can forgive the author, considering the story's originality and how engaging the first two books were. I'm looking forward to reading more of her completed series, especially after finishing Lars's story with his crush 😊.

1.5 - it was alright, but the writing in this series could use some work/edits. A lot of stuff was happening randomly, without further explanation of how or why things work out the way they do, and the reader is left to infer everything.

Alot of the questions I had for the story were left unanswered, and the ending was too rushed and tidy.
There were characters that just appeared half way through the series and had become crucial to the plot development.
And Karma and Fate's relationship was frustrating to watch (read?).

So this book did not end the way I though it would and I really like the transformation of Fate. This story was exciting fun and especially unique.

I know what Karma did for Charlie and the whore was the noble and good thing to do, but she is Karma after all and they were not being honest. They deserved a bit of Karma themselves.

Since I was reading the book bundle, I also read The Agency which was a bit of fun. Seeing her past through Fate's eyes was enlightening.

And although 13 year old pain in the ass lushes, I really liked the Jinxes.

Just wow!

I was never this captivated since American Gods? Great story line and very original! So sad it's over. This author doesn't waste words on gratuitous details of sex without feeling. She makes you wait for the love that can only happen between two people from spending lifetimes together. This story is about normal people who were born as gods trying to make a positive difference. Karma was reincarnated many times since Genghis Khan. This is her story and it's blindingly beautiful...I dare you to chance reading it...it may be fate.

I enjoyed this series, throughout the writing was well done and with the main characters Karma and Fate we see personal growth. DA has amazing world-building and character development. However, the secondary characters are not used to their potential and we are introduced to a new character for a chapter and then never mentioned again. Even though all the loose ends are tied up, the ending did not feel like a solid end. As though something else could happen. There is one more book set in the world may be the ending will be found there. Next up Dead Ink: A Karma World Romance
