Sometimes, believing the lies we tell ourselves is easier than dealing with the truth.

Once, I wanted to die. That was the night I met Guy.

The strange man with flowers stepped from the shadows and saved my life.

Guy. Dimpled smile. Body of a surf god. Smart and funny. Running out of time.

We became travelling companions through life, ticking off items on our bucket lists.

I’d hidden from happiness for years and kept my life under strict control. Guy showed me how to step into the world and experience more,

he brought light into the shadows and helped me through the darkness.

I became Phe again. I lived.

There’s just one problem.

We fell in love and this wasn’t part of our plans.

I thought we could face the future together, but Guy has a secret which changes everything.

"Do I make you feel like living?"

#SameDeep1

Omnia Causa Fiunt. Everything happens for a reason. That simple phrase encompasses and means so much more. There will be moments in our life where we will question the loss, the hurt, the heartache, the pain, the what if moments, and so many others. Friends may come and go. New strangers may appear in your life and change you. Fate could be leading you to a different direction and open your eyes to a whole new world of possibilities. So in a sense, everything happens for a reason, even when we are not able to make sense of it. And in Lisa Swallow's newest release, The Same Deep Water, she reminds us all that we don't meet people by accident. They are meant to cross our path for a reason.

"Do you know what's special about kissing in the rain?... Loving somebody is easy when the sun is shining, but when you're caught up in the storm, you discover who's prepared to stand with you."

#SameDeepWaters

Thought-provoking!!! That is the one word that immediately comes to mind when I read The Same Deep Water. This book took my heart immediately and left a mark. It was one of those touching reads that really affected me. It left me feeling so raw, exposed and vulnerable. Right off the opening pages, I knew I was going to experience a whirlwind of emotions since this book really left a strong impression on fate. Honestly, this book took you to a whole new level where it transcends your heart, soul, and mind about life.

"Swimming the same deep water as Guy was hard, but struggling in the depths with him is better than losing myself amongst those who never find their way out of the shallows."

This book is not your typical romance story. It is a story that is centered on two broken people who both have secrets, a painful and saddening past, and who are struggling with living. In a sense both characters are drowning but together they find salvation, healing and acceptance. Together, they learn how to face their fears together and separately. I honestly don't want to spoil the story since this book is about experiencing the pain, the hurt, the disappointment, the happiness, the ups and downs, and the everything in between. So if you are looking for a book, where you are reminded that you were given THIS LIFE because you're strong enough to live it then I highly recommend you to read this book because this book is just a reminder that's it okay to ask for help.

Every so often, you come across a book that leaves a mark. Not necessarily because it's the sexiest, dirtiest, darkest, or even most romantic. But because it touches you in a way other books haven't. Perhaps it hits at something you recognise, or something you don't want to recognise, or maybe it just makes you realise that there are others out there who have struggles too, even if they are fictional. It still leaves it's mark, and sticks in your mind far longer, than the same books you read day in and day out.

The Same Deep Water, is one of those books. It wasn't a conventional love story, a light and breezy easy beach read, or even a hairy gorgeous man tearing off on a huge bike, throwing his torn clothes at ladies sighing at the side lines. Nope, it was so much more.

Right from the first chapter, this book touched me, where other books had left me kinda bored and numb. It's hard to explain how a book can leave such a powerful impression, but upon reading this book you would see it straight away.

"Why are you always so serious in the dark?" I whisper and touch his cheek.
"Because you can't see me properly."
"I think I see more of you than you realise"

It's the story of two people with heavy hearts, heavy minds, and painful pasts. They both have secrets and struggles they need to battle through daily. It's not a dance on the rainbows, whilst sniffing the flowers type of love story. It's a love story that is real, because it deals with the harsh and ugly stuff, that happens to so many people, but usually is hidden away. In this book we see how these two people deal with all their own obstacles and demons, to be able to enjoy life and love. Neither of them has had it easy, and their pasts are full of pain and sadness. But through all the heartbreaking parts, there is also a developing friendship and later love, that makes this story so beautiful and heartwarming.

We say so much to each other yet so little, on the edge of each other's lives. He tells me I'm his, but I don't think he's mine.

I'm not going to go in to details and summaries on this story, as it's perfect without prior knowledge. But I highly recommend it, if you love to read stories that step out from the conventional or the normal. Ones that show all aspects of life, even the uglier and painful hidden parts, the sides of us we hide and don't like to talk about. But what I loved was how reading this book, makes you realise you're not alone. I know that sounds strange, but it's almost like there is something in this story, that could help readers, make them realise they aren't the only ones who suffer, and show how others who suffer, eventually get through rough patches, and find happiness.

But anyway, that's enough of that sappy stuff, at the end of the day this book is incredibly well written, it's honest, beautiful and captivating. Not to mention the stunning scenery and background to all the places Guy and Phe travel to, whilst on their journey through their bucket lists together. Makes you want to go find some gorgeous beaches, and attempt to surf, badly if you are me. I'm also thinking maybe I should write a bucket list, never really thought of it before. This book is most definitely inspirational.

**Just to be clear, this book is not a ugly cry, break-your-heart ending. Yes, there are some really sad elements, and depending on how they affect you, you will probably well up quite a lot. BUT, above all it is a love story and has a happy ending that is beautiful. Plus the story deals with some mental health issues, in case that is a trigger for you in books.**

"I think sometimes love creeps up on you however hard you try"

I went into this book blind as the cover caught my eye and is absolutely beautiful and perfect for this story! I simply LOVE LOVE surprise reads!!

"Fate is a strange creature, drawing together lost souls the stepping back to watch what happens."

"Jumping off there and you'll never have a chance to live life, to take a chance on experiences that leave you more alive than others."

Not wanting to be talked out of her plan to end it all, Phe can't help but take the hand of safety and let Guy lead her off the ledge of flying.

"Guy isn't physically pulling me way from the edge, but his words are gradually curling around my body and tugging me back to the world."

Phe and Guy embark on a friendship. A friendship filled with darkness from both sides as each has secrets of sorrow that try to pull each into a new darkness.

As Phe fights to move forward, Guy is fighting to just live. His darkness is beyond the color black as his is also filled with lies his mind has created.

Guy's darkness started the day he was born and continued down a sad path. Blaming himself for things he thought was his fault. The guilt was fueled by his breaking mental health. He must keep his breaking mind a secret to keep Phe safe from him.

Not wanting to fall in love, their connection is inevitable.

"Can we stay with the stars?"

"If tomorrow we can watch the fire of a new dawn."

Preparing for a future of unknown, Guy's lies erupt in a world of hurt, leaving Phe devastated by his lies.

Walking away is the only thing she can do to survive before a new darkness threatens to consume her.

Fate steps in once again for Phe and Guy after time apart. The love that was built on truth and lies is handed another chance.

This book was an emotional twist of your heart!! The only reason I didn't give the 5☆'s was because Phe and her lack of self esteem got on my nerves while reading. But this book should be read by all. Fabulous writing Miss Swallow!!

Wow! That definitely left a mark.

The Same Deep Water is absolutely wonderful!!! I was happy, sad, smiling, and crying all at once. I couldn’t tell which way the story would end up going. I wanted to read fast to get to the HEA, but I also wanted to read slow in case there wasn’t one.

Guy and Phe’s relationship is born from a less than conventional situation. They embark on bucket list adventure that turns into something much more exciting and scary…. Love. That certainly wasn’t part of the deal. He saved her from life, and she saved him from death. But is love enough to build a future together?

Phe and Guy are special characters you don’t come across every day. Guy is a one charming puzzle of a man. His personality is larger than life, and I absolutely adore him. Phe is broken and closed off. And with all she’s been thorough, I couldn’t help but want good things to happen for Phe.

This book makes me want to scream from the rooftops for everyone to read it. Lisa Swallow has a gift for making you feel the story. Her writing is exquisite and beautiful.

This story is brilliant and emotional. And, one I won’t soon forget.

Before going into this book, I would just like to warn everyone that this book does touch on some tough subjects that might be hard for some people to read. This book does have a lot of sad elements, but it does have some equally happy parts as well. I would just like everyone to keep that in mind before reading this book.

The plot of this book was very emotional. There was a sense of almost dread this entire book, because even though there were happy parts, sadness was always lingering in the background. This book made me cry, but it also made me smile. I tried not to get attached to the characters, because I was worried my heart would get broken. However, I couldn't help but fall in love with the characters. I ended up becoming extremely invested in them and I was rooting for their happy endings. I especially wanted a happy ending for the romantic relationship between Guy and Phe.

I really enjoyed the main characters of this book, Guy and Phe. I thought they were both very well written characters. They both seemed so real. I was able to relate to both of the characters on different levels. Both characters made me fall in love with them, and they both broke my heart. I felt so bad for both of them. However, they both had moments that made me laugh out loud and smile. They put me through an emotional roller coaster that kept me up all night. I was completely invested in their stories. I especially liked Phe, and I just wanted to reach out and hug her. I really connected with her character, and I enjoyed her character development through out this book.

I thought the romance was wonderful. There were so many romantic and tender moments between Phe and Guy. At the beginning of the book, it seemed like their attraction and desire to be together seemed way too sudden. However, over time, I wanted them together so badly, and I was so happy once they finally got together. They had a rough relationship at times. I understood why it was that way, but it was still frustrating. I just wanted them to be honest with each other. Guy kept some huge things from Phe, and I was so angry about that. I understood why Lisa did that, and I was happy with how the made up. However, it still made me angry as it was happening. Their relationship was heart warming yet heart breaking at the same time. No matter how many times they frustrated me, I still loved them together.

"The waves fought me today, elusive and frustrating, but I refused to let the ocean win."

I loved this book and hated it at the same time. It put me through so many emotions. Lisa's writing was truly exquisite. I wanted to hug the characters and strangle them at the same time. This book was super sad at times and very happy at other times. There was a sense of dread through out the majority of the book, which was a little bit of a turn off for me. However, I still really liked this book. I thought Lisa did a great job of tackling very tough and emotional topics. The book was very moving, and I definitely felt all of the feels. I enjoyed this book, even when I wanted to pull my hair out.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a deeply emotional romance. Lisa is a wonderful author, and I am excited to read more of her books in the future.

The Same Deep Water teaser

**Review**
The Same Deep Water is an intriguing, thought-provoking, realistic, and somewhat raw portrayal of mental illness. It makes you think about life and it makes you feel for the characters in the story.

The book opens with Phe, a young woman who is battling severe depression after a life-changing event in her childhood. She doesn’t believe that life is worth living anymore and is on the brink of suicide. While preparing to throw herself off a cliff, a random man appears by her side. Guy saves her life that night, and gives Phe a reason to live by suggesting they complete their bucket lists together.

Whew, that’s a pretty dramatic way to start a book! I was totally drawn into the story from there. I needed to know why Guy was there that night, why he had a bucket list, and why his time was running out.

Guy and Phe’s relationship is a very interesting (and sometimes confusing) one. You know that they are both at a turning point in their lives (for better or for worse), but they are also growing closer to one another. I kept reading and dreading the turn of events that would reveal the truth behind Guy’s illness.

However, I felt like it took a long time to learn all of the secrets, both Phe’s and Guy’s. On one hand, I had to know the answers and on the other, I found myself wanting to skim through the pages to get to them.  Also, this may be the first romance I have read where I wasn't necessarily rooting for a 'happily-ever-after' between the main characters.  As the graphic above suggests, creating her own happy ending instead of waiting for someone else to provide one was empowering advice.  Watching Phe heal and grow into a strong, mature, and thriving woman was the best reward for reading her story.

While the writing and the story were excellent, the pacing was a little too slow for me. There was a little angst and a little drama, but in the end, I enjoyed the book.  (And, bonus points for the beautiful cover!)

** I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review**

My Rating: 5 Coffee Cups!!

This book floored me. Really and truly it did. I read this book in a matter of a few hours. I literally started it only moments after I saw it arrived on my Kindle and didn't stop until it was finished. And then I immediately turned around and asked if it was OK if I posted my review earlier than planned. It hit me that hard. I needed to digest the story and then immediately spew my love for it onto others. There have been a lot of books that I've read lately that have touched me- seriously everything I've been reading lately has been better than the last book I read and loved, which was better than the last book I read and loved and so on. It's pretty much been a steady climb all year so far for me. This book essentially has topped my list (and according to Goodreads I'm about 90 books in for the year at this point).

Guy and Phe are amazing. They are amazing individually, but they are made spectacular once they are together.

Ophelia, or Phe for short is in pain. She has struggled with depression her entire life. Her past was difficult to say the least, and she starts the book deciding that she couldn't handle it anymore. The sadness, the guilt, the loneliness. She was quite literally standing at the edge of a cliff when she saw Guy. A stranger with a bouquet of flowers who managed to talk her off the edge. He doesn't do it with psychology or unrealistic promises. He does it by telling her the truth, as unconventional as it is. He is dying and you see he has a bucket list he wants to complete before his time comes. 10 things he wants to get checked off. And # 9 is saving someone. Which she helps him check off. But they actually stay in touch. Guy checking on her to make sure she's still OK and he manages to convince her to create her own bucket list. And also manages to convince her to check off all of their items together.

Guy is spontaneous, passionate and understanding. He teaches Phe to live in the moment. They open up to each other heart and soul. And despite all of their reservations and their determination to keep it platonic, they fall in love. Not the sweet, aww how cute kind of love. The deep, soul-wrenching, heart-twisting kind of love. The kind of love that when this book hits the point of no return, the betrayal that the synopsis hints, at you break down right along with the characters. You can actually feel your heart breaking right along with Phe. Everything she goes through, her thoughts, the pain, the passion- you go through with her because this story sucked you in. You went for the ride with them.

description

"Do you know what's special about kissing in the rain?" Mutely, I shake my head. "Loving somebody is easy when the sun is shining, but when you're caught in the storm, you discover who's prepared to stand with you."

It's kind of hard to pin point what exactly makes this book so beautiful. Yes, the subject matter of mental illness can be touchy. Especially if not done correctly. But this was most definitely not the case. This was realistic and because it was so, it may be a little difficult to read at times. But that is one of the ways that it seamlessly folds you into the story. The love story is written beautifully, it's touching and funny and heartfelt. I'm trying my absolute best to not give anything away, which may be why this review seems a bit vague, but I really believe this is a book that should be experienced rather than explained.

This was my first Lisa Swallow read but 1000% will NOT be my last.

*Advanced Readers Copy received in exchange for an honest review*
First of all this cover of The Same Deep Water is just absolutely gorgeous. If you don’t think that then you are a total idiot…. No offence! Now this book was so totally different than what I’m used to. It is unique, intriguing and realistic and has a raw portrayal of mental illness. I don’t normally like books like this but that changed soon enough. This book made me think about life and I had so much emotions for the characters in this story. This is my first book of Lisa Swallow and I am over the moon that I got a chance to read it. Phe and Guy’s story was just a fabulous story.
"Fate is a strange creature, drawing together lost souls then stepping back to watch what happens."

This book starts with Phe, a young woman with severe depression after a life-changing event when she was younger. She does not believe that life is worth living anymore and she is on the brink of suicide. She was about to throw herself of a cliff when a random man appears by her side. Guy saved her that night and he gave her a reason to live by finishing their bucket list together.

"I messaged you every evening so that every time you closed your eyes to sleep, you would know somebody out there cared."

I can tell you that I nearly put the book down before I actually started it….. because of the way the book started, I mean I don’t like suicide. But somehow Guy pulled me in, the way he saved Phe’s life he kind of made me laugh. I mean here she is trying to jump when he is just talking to her being very annoying asking her things that was really not that important at the time. I can say he sort of annoyed her off the cliff in this endearing kind of way. I needed to know what would happen next I mean what was Guy doing there? Why does he already have a bucket list and why is his time running out?

This book is told in first POV, this book was a thoughtful and a moving read that just pulled me in. Guy and Phe’s relationship was really interesting. These two know that they were at the turning point, but they got closer to one another. I kept reading but I was also dreading to see the truth behind Guy’s illness. I mean when you found out about his truth everything would have changed. Sadly it felt like it took too long to learn all those secrets but I needed to know the answers as well.

"Life goes on."

The words in the story just flowed wonderfully and just created a wonderful backdrop, which made me feel each emotion that was displayed in this book. If you are looking for a nice quick read that will leave you with a nice warm feeling at the end then I would so recommend that you go grab this book and just dive into The Same Deep Water! Also like I said before this book has an amazing cover!

"You've stolen every rational thought in my head and replaced them with dreams of you."

A thought provoking look at pain and sadnesss and the struggle of two people to overcome it.

From the very first page of this book, I knew I was in for an emotional ride. Phe and Guy meet on the edge of a cliff. One with clear intentions, the other, not so much. Their initial meeting is intense and sad, but Guy makes a difference that changes the course of Phe's life.

During their brief meeting, Guy convinces Phe to create a bucket list like his own. If you understand what a bucket lists are, then you know what you are in store for with this story. The two of them have lists for very different reasons (which I'll keep to myself). Eventually, Guy has Phe also agreeing to work on their lists together, first beginning merely as companions, and later developing into a friendship and more, along the way.

Both Phe and Guy are reluctant to open up about their pasts. Phe's past is mentioned in parts, but it wasn't until late in the book that she reveals the painful story in full. It is incredible sad and shocked me. My heart broke for her and I completely understood why she struggled.

As for Guy, he too is guarded, revealing his reason for a bucket list. With his confession, I expected this story to go one direction, an immensely sad one, but it went a completely different one. Just like Phe, I sensed that there was more to his story than what he is sharing. I should have put the pieces together sooner, but didn't and was caught off guard.

While there is plenty of heartbreak in the book, this story left me feeling uplifted rather than depressed. There's a great message about survival and overcoming fears. I loved how Phe and Guy were there for each other (most of the way).

With the beginning of this book, you'd think Phe was a weak heroine, but I found her to be the opposite. While she leaned on Guy initially, she comes into her own throughout the book and I couldn't help but supporter for that.

Don't let the emotional weight of this plot scare you away. This was a beautiful story and ultimately, a heartwarming one.

The Same Deep Water by Lisa Swallow has left a sour taste in my mouth. The reason being is I don't  like  a liar and Guy is just that.

Phe is a young woman trying to rid herself of the demons that haunt her. She's fed up and ready for the next world until Guy shows up to save the day. At the cliff's edge she meets the guy that's  going to change her unfortunately  he has his own demons.

Together they work on their bucket lists and go on conquering them together. Phe is under the impression  Guy doesn't  have much time to live so she has now made it her mission to help him cross ever thing off but what she didn't see coming was that she was  falling in love.

“I messaged you every evening so that every time you closed your eyes to sleep you would know somebody out there cared.” ~Guy

We’re anchored in our blurred world, out of time and place, and for the first time in my life holding onto somebody else feels right. -Phe

Swimming the same deep water as Guy was hard, but struggling in the depths with him is better than losing myself amongst those who never find their way out of the shallows. -Phe

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. However this did not influence my review in any way.

“Fate is a strange creature, drawing together lost souls then stepping back to watch what happens."

The Same Deep Water was a unique and different take on the story of love, overcoming life's challenges, and finding a future. This my first read by Lisa Swallow, and I am so happy I took the chance on Phe and Guy’s story.

“I messaged you every evening so that every time you closed your eyes to sleep you would know somebody out there cared.”

This is just a sample of words that move us in The Same Deep Water. Both of our characters, Phe and Guy, are stuck on empty. One trying to live out their life to the fullest, the other shying away from it. But, neither quite making the connections they need. Until they finally do, and we embark on their journey to an unknown future.

“Life goes on."

Told in first person point of view, The Same Deep Water was a thoughtful and moving read that lulled me in to its grasp. The character development had an underlying subtleness, until the point that big changes took place and were visible in the reality that had not been previously revealed. Journeying with Guy and Phe as they attempted to fulfill their bucket lists was fun and made me feel as if they were real, tangible people. The words in the story flowed and created a beautiful backdrop that I enjoy seeing in a book, making me feel each emotion that the characters spoke of and displayed. If you are looking for a quick read that will leave you with a warm feeling in your heart, I recommend you take a dive into The Same Deep Water.

I'd like to start this review by talking about that absolutely GORGEOUS cover! It was what caught my attention and made me want to read this book!
The Same Deep Water is the kind of book that leaves a huge life impact, an impression from quotes that we could all live by. The story is so thought provoking and could inspire anyone to live life the best way, with no regrets, taking risks and finding yourself.

This is the story of Phe and Guy. This isn't any typical romance of guy meets girl, saves said girl and they run off into the sunset living happily ever after! OH NO! This story is deep, it is raw and it is full of emotion that had me thinking of the book after finishing. It is full of REAL LIFE problems that I personally, have worked within and studied hard for. The way the author portrayed this was really intense and written well!

The characters both have huge personal issues and when events unfold both come into each other's lives at the PERFECT time! Guy encourages Phe to reach out and grab her life with both hands and LIVE it to the fullest! Phe provides Guy with the calm his life needs and opens whole new choices that he didn't think he could have!

I loved the authors writing, it is full of beautiful creativity and a depth that is unique to her. This story is written in first person and is told from Phe's POV!
The first 40% of this book had me captured so effortlessly! But some of the situations and scenes that occurred after this point, I really struggled with, but in all honesty, I think that is personal preference! But please, don't let that put you off this book!
The author is clearly very talented and I look forward to reading more of her work!

In this story you meet Phe and Guy. They meet under rather unusual circumstances. Phe is on the edge of a cliff, wanting to end her life. Guy manages to make her see that things are not as bad as they may seem. Though Phe is reluctant and Guy is persistent, he eventually persuades her to make the most out of their life by creating a bucket list. He is also determined to become travel companions to complete the ones they have in common. As they complete their lists, they open their hearts and get to know one another. But what will happen once the list ends?

Same Deep Water by Lisa Swallow is unlike any other book I have read. It has a unique perspective that made me feel a wide range of emotions. I laughed, I cried, wanted to throw my kindle across the room, then pick it up for more. I loved the characters as well as the storyline. There were many twists and turns in the plot, making me wonder what will happen next, as well as dying to find out how it will end. It is definitely worth reading. Lisa Swallow is a talented author who captures the essence of what her characters are feeling, making you feel them just as they do. Phe and Guy will stay with you for a long time after reading!

Casi cuatro estrellas***

A book that will leave you touched in a way no other has...

The Same Deep Water by Lisa Swallow is a book that, other than reading the blurb, I had no real idea what I was going to be letting myself in for. Well, I can tell you, this is probably one of my favourite books for 2015.

This book grabs you right from the first page and just doesn't let go until you have read the final page, and even then I was looking for more. I love reading and read anywhere between 3-5 books a week. So, every now and then there’s a book that leaves you with a hangover of epic proportions, and not from the type of book hangover that I usually experience, one more regarding the profoundness of life and how easily it hangs in the balance.

This the story of Guy and Phe, two people who are caught up in a world of pain and hurt. Two people who, both have significant issues. Guy found Phe on the precipice of her destruction, and he saves her from herself literally. Guy, a good looking, rich, surfer dude is the reluctant hero and the light to Phe's life. However, nothing is as it seems. Phe and Guy become partners, ticking off things on their bucket lists so they can experience life together. It becomes apparent that Guy has a serious medical issue and has limited time to carry out everything on his bucket list.

This book is set in Australia and gives some gorgeous insight into the Australian lifestyle and country. The feelings and descriptions had me right there, on the beach, in the country, watching the stars, so well written were the descriptions that I could feel the heat of the sun and the touch of the rain on my skin.

This isn't an easy read by any means, it deals with mental health issues and psychotic experiences. Mental illness is a health problem that affects significantly how a person thinks, feels, behaves and interacts with others. It can be completely debilitating, or can be controlled to a level where the person can live a "normal" life. This book deals with mental health and all it entails, it is done well and factual. What I did like about this book was that it had all the sad elements and information and didn't gloss over the serious side of mental illness. But what it does do is leave you with a good understanding of mental health in factual fiction.

Above all, this is a love story. A story of two young people who meet and eventually fall in love against all odds. It's a story of how one person helps the other and how they overcome their issues. It's a story that will leave you with questions and answers. Above all, it’s a story with a happy ever after and one that I thoroughly recommend. Congratulations Lisa Swallow on another beautiful book that I could not put down. This is a five star plus read for me.

*Received ARC in return for an honest review*
Lisa Swallows is at it again with her new book The Same Deep Water. This book is different than her other books, but even so, it is even better than the rest in my opinion. This book does touch on some subjects that might be hard for some readers to understand or read about, so please keep this in mind when reading this book.
The Same Deep Water has many twists within the story line. The opening chapter sets the tone for the book and it lets you know that Lisa is not holding anything back. To say I shed a couple of tears would be the understatement of the year. This book had me in full blown ugly cry, which I can honestly say has only happened two other times when it comes to book. This book is devastatingly wonderful and I would not change a single part of it.
The characters in this book are very well developed. Both Guy and Phe are relatable characters that you grow to love. I love that Lisa is able to write in a way that you feel you are truly reading the characters thoughts. It is like you can hear the character narrating her story to you. This is what I call amazing writing skills. I love that as Phe is experiencing life, I feel like I am experiencing everything right along with her. I also love that Phe has her funny moments too. This book made me cry, but it also made me laugh at times.
I don’t want to spoil anything about the book, but I will tell you how I reacted. As I have said above, there were times I laughed and times I cried. There were times I sighed in both content and frustration. There were also the couple of times I sat in silence, shocked by the by the events unfolding. There were even times I look at my fiancée and told him I absolutely hated and loved this book at the same time due to the emotional reactions I was having. There were even times when I should’ve probably put the book down and lived my own life (like eat dinner or show my fiancée affection), but this book had me hooked from the first chapter and I devoured it as quickly as I could.
Overall, The Same Deep Water is in the top 5 best books I have read this year, and it is looking like it will probably be number one. I absolutely loved every single part of this book, even the parts that made me want to pull my own hair out. Lisa is an amazing writer, and The Same Deep Water just makes me ask myself, What is Lisa going to do next?

ARC won in exchange for an honest review.

I was lucky enough to win an ARC of an highly anticipated book from this awesome author. This is my 5 star review.

For millions of people, living with a mental illness it's a struggle each and every day and a great challenge. Mental issues are not always well understood. Society frowns on what's called different from the normal behaviour. But what's normal? People with a mental illness often live in isolation.

This story is different from what I've read and I love different. I admire an author who is not afraid to write about difficult subjects. Lisa brought me into this story by really creating great characters with well defined emotions and feelings. So much that I kind of felt what they were feeling.

This is a story about Phe who sees herself with no future. She's at the lowest point of her life. Desperation is her only companion. She has a low self esteem, afraid of living. In a moment of desperation, she wants to end her life. But then she meets Guy who makes her want to live again. He brings back her self confidence, hope and a future. He teaches her how to live again at its fullest through a bucket list that they check off together.

Guy his a sweet, loving, happy and full of life kind of man. But underneath all that he has demons of his own to battle. He does not let Phe in. Together they will find a way to cope with their inner demons and move on from their troubled past. They will struggle together and come out victorious.

People living with a mental illness need a strong support system. Lisa brings that in this book. As an health care worker , I know what she wrote was realistic and happens daily for millions of people. Lisa did her research on how to go about this book. This story kept me intrigued and wanting to read this book. I love an author who can keep the suspense till the end. I love to guess and form theories, that later proves me wrong or surprises me. Very well written.

I highly recommend this book. This book is a standalone with an HEA and no cliffhanger. This book deals with mental illnesses. I also recommend Lisa Swallows previous published books.

I received an ARC in return for an honest review and I can truly say that i absolutely LOVED this book! I am a huge fan of Lisa Swallow's Blue Phoenix series and once again, she has hit it out of the park with The Same Deep Water! This book is one that will touch your heart and soul right from the start and draw you in further, page by page. Guy and Phe are complex characters that will stay with you long after the story ends and make you really think long and hard about life and what makes it worth living. This book is about love, loss, heartbreak and pain and in the end, finding happiness and living your life rather than letting the sadness and despair suck you under the water and destroy everything. Lisa Swallow takes the reader on an epic journey that starts with Phe on the edge of darkness and ready to jump off the ledge. Guy steps in and makes Phe see that life is worth living as they tick off items on their bucket list. His love of life and laid back attitude opens Phe's eyes to a world that she never could see before. As I watched their relationship develop from "travelling partners" to so much more, I couldn't help but root for what I felt they both deserved---the happily ever after future that they both knew they'd never have. But, what lies beneath the surface isn't always what it seems and The Same Deep Water delves "deeply" into this area in the most amazing way. As we learn more about the characters and what they are facing, we root for them to find happiness when things look bleak and hopeless. This book deals with serious issues and Lisa Swallow navigates them expertly, letting the readers experience the highs and lows, gaining some insight into what those with and those around mental illness experience. Once I started the book I couldn't put it down until the last line was read. Honestly, I was expecting the book to be sad but what I really felt was a mix of emotions that, ultimately left me full of hope and faith. This is one roller coaster ride that is absolutely worth the price of admission!

Firstly, I want to say how amazing this book cover is - it is definitely going on my cover crushes list. The Same Deep Water by Lisa Swallow is set in the land down under , which I thought since I am from New Zealand - Australia is only across the ditch and I quite like reading australian based books that I would enjoy it more than I did , unfortunately for me the pace of The Same Deep Water is quite slow and I found it hard to get into and follow as my mind kept drifting away. The Same Deep Water starts off with Phe , sitting on the edge of a cliff and we can only imagine that it's to jump off and commit suicide as that is the feel of the novel in the early pages. While sitting on the edge, she is interrupted by a guy called Guy who sees it as his destiny and fate to save her from herself and from the mistake she is about to make. Turns out that Guy has himself a bucket list and one of the things on his list is #to save a life and so now Phe has become his project. Guy encourages Phe to create a bucket list as well , this part of the book got me thinking about my bucket list and the type of things that I would include on mine - often the save a life is a great one , but it is also a bucket list goal that often I have read/seen backfire on people. Over the course of the novel, Guy and Phe will join forces and leagues to complete the items on their bucket lists and for Phe, this journey is the one thing in life that will hopefully help her find out what she has been missing in order to find her complete self again.

If you love emotional reads and don't mind a slower pace in your novels , then The Same Deep Water by Lisa Swallow is the book for you and while you are reading it, you can think about your bucket lists and whether or not you are at a stage where you could tick something off on that list.

Every once and a while a book comes along that really does make a reader invest not only their time reading it, but their mind, heart and emotions as well. The Same Deep Water was the most recent book to do that for me. This is a story about Phe and Guy.

Phe is finally made her decision to end it all and hope for peace after she is gone. She is sitting on the edge of a cliff when Guy comes along and tells her not to jump. He convinces her that her life can’t really be that bad, that jumping is the only answer. He tells her that he really doesn’t want her to jump and in doing so, convinces her to give life a second chance. She is then an item he can check off his bucket list, “save someone’s life”.
Guy has created a bucket list of items he wants to do before he dies, and according to him that will be soon. He tells Phe he is sick, so he wanted to do some things before he goes. He convinces her to start her own bucket list and they will check items off the list together.

They both have a similar item on their lists, “fall in love”. They both know they shouldn’t fall in love, especially with each other. But as each bucket list item is checked off, can they really not?

I had very many emotions going through this book, including loving and hating each of the characters for different reasons. There are a few twists in the book you really can’t predict, but I am glad the two end up at a place they are both meant too. This is a very fun and adventurous romance, but does include mental health subject matter that could be hard for some to read. I did have a few moments I had to put it down to take a breath and remember they are just characters. These two will grab ahold of your heartstrings and PULL, hard! I cried several times, I laughed a lot and felt the love of the story and characters. What a great novel!

***************ARC given for honest review*****************

Lisa Swallow has done it again! She is the kind of writer who pulls you in to the story, so much so that you feel what the characters are feeling. You cheer them, hate them, and commiserate with them. This book will have your heart breaking for both Phe and Guy.
Guy comes into Phe’s life when she is at her lowest. She is literally standing on the edge of a cliff. He uses humor and patience to get her to walk away from a decision she can’t take back.
They start a tentative pseudo friendship through text messages and soon that progresses to in person meetings where Guy convinces her to make a bucket list to help her get out of her shell of an existence. He tells her he has one, and when she learns the reason it has a huge impact on her and makes her feel that what she almost did was horribly selfish. They decide to help each other complete the lists, labeling themselves traveling companions.
Through this experience they grow closer, but Phe knows Guy is keeping secrets. Secrets that he refuses to share even though he is relentless at getting her to expose hers. But she can’t keep herself from getting more attached to him, they are like magnets drawn together. Swimming in the same deep water.
When the truth finally comes out, can Phe, who is still a very fragile person, forgive Guy or will she chose to walk away?
I have to admit to being gobsmacked when Guy’s secret came out. I was not expecting that at all.
This story involves a very sensitive issue, mental health. Lisa did a fabulous job of showing the emotional damage that happens to not only the person suffering, but those that are in their life.
