A shifter made of stone. And wings. A human bent on free love. And drunk. Any joke could be made with those two lines.
But the town of Woodland Creek, it's no laughing matter. Hostile and magical residents guard their secrets. It's too easy to be found out.
When Isaac Stone first meets Kennedy Kirk, he's tempted to shove her off the clock tower. After all, she is gripping his private parts to lean over and see his town. One little push is all it would take...
New York Times bestselling author and award-winner, Scarlett Dawn, is the mastermind behind the Forever Evermore fantasy series, the Origin paranormal dystopian stories, the Vampire Crown paranormal romance thrillers, the Mark science fantasy saga, and the Lion Security contemporary romance series.
She lives in the Midwest, adores her music loud, and demands her fries covered in melted cheese.
Atmospheric and sexy PNR novella read with a bit of a love triangle. As much as I like the idea of gargoyles, this was maybe the first gargoyle H read that I enjoyed!
This is my first Scarlett Dawn read and I must say, this author captured me. She also had me bewildered. Yet, the dark, unknown and mystical characters intrigued me.
One night, in a drunken stupor, Kennedy Kirk, falls heads first off the clock tower. In plunging to her untimely death, she is magically saved by a dying Wizard. A Wizard that bestows his magical book and powers unto her. With this new found power, Kennedy now understands that the town she lives in, is over run with magical beings called Shifters. All living within Woodland Creek.
The very own Mayor, Isaac Stone, and his affluent family are Gargoyles.
A shifter made of stone. And wings.
With this new knowledge, Kennedy traverses her life in Woodland Creek, making sure to stay out of the way of these Shifters. With her impression of them as vile creatures, preying on the innocent humans, it's only logical that her love life includes a Shifter hunter.
Kennedy is still evaluating her life, and her direction for the future. For the time been she is working in a Flower Shop and has a second job as a courier. An all knowing Wizard needed a package delivered on a night where all hell broke lose. A night that a powerful magic unleashed all inhibitions and called to the baser carnal needs of everyone, Shifter and humans alike. Everywhere people were involved in sexual acts. The intense pull, making them fornicate with the closest person.
This night proved futile for Kennedy's plight to stay away from all Shifters, when she finds herself drawn to Isaac. The pull of the magical spell brought them together in lust and desire. Their intense night together, sealed their fate, and now these two must battle the impending evil surrounding Woodland Creek. While Kennedy finds herself sandwiched between two men- one gargoyle, one hunter - and too much testosterone for one female to handle.
This was an interesting tale about the Shifter world. SD confused me with the lust driven night in question. I felt that the attempt to create and portray the night as magically induced and against the willpower of humans and shifters, was overdone. This in turn made the opening chapter confusing and difficult for me as a reader to understand the intention. Until later in the book where it was better explained.
*ARC provided by Give Me Books PR on behalf of the author for an honest review* Thanks!
Talk about being caught between a rock and a hard place! Leave it to Scarlett Dawn to jump right into her tale with a few chuckles! Kennedy has had far too much to drink and very unwisely stands far above the ground among Gargoyle statues. At least she wisely held on tight to one Gargoyle as she leaned precariously over the edge…little did she know, that specific appendage could prove far more fascinating in the flesh!
In a magical town full of shifters and more, a family of gargoyle shifters perch in place, keeping watch. Among them is the mayor of the town, Isaac, who is about to find out what can happen to his heart when an irresistible lust orgy overcomes the town and Kennedy is the woman he lusts for. Was this a chance encounter or does Fate have a few more tricks up her sleeve? Gargoyle is sizzling with Scarlett Dawn’s signature heat, passion, humor and wit! This short read is a light, breezy and fun. Seriously, who else could pull off a magic-induced orgy in all of its glory, then taunt her characters with its aftermath?

This story had the most hilarious opening I've read in a long time. Unfortunately, it went downhill after that.
This was just... weird... The characters were meh and so was the sexytime.
I either love or hate the stories this author writes - seldom something in between. This was the latter. Too bad, I was expecting so much more from the gargoyle mayor with the stone cock... Alas, it wasn't meant to be.
☆ 1 star for the overall story ☆ 1 bonus star for the fabulously entertaining opening.
I've enjoyed this authors work in the past so when I spotted this I was over the moon. Plus it's about gargoyles so what's not to like ? Well actually quite a lot. It starts in a very amusing manner but quickly it's clear that strange things are happening in what should be a relatively orderly and quiet town. Then the story jumps forward with a spell that affects seemingly almost the whole town in a very physical way. I've no wish to ruin any surprises but our heroine Kennedy and the gargoyle Isaac ( who happens to be the mayor ) get their freak on but one month later the consequences of that one magically charged night are reverberating around town with consequences that not everyone is happy with. Hmm shifters, wizards and humans feature here and there's even a hunter. If brutal I thought the middle was a mess and it was almost as if the author had one idea and then changed her mind. We are introduced to Kennedy's ex Jonathan and he's just written in such an odd way that it felt very confusing. Luckily the author gets her ideas straight and the ending whilst perhaps a tad rushed finally made sense. Certainly nowhere near as good as King Hall by this author but I did enjoy certain aspects.
I normally don't read novellas because the author has to cram a whole story in so few words and majority of the time it makes the story come across extremely rushed and messy. That's what I got with Gargoyle.
Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad. But it wasn't great either. It was rushed and everything happened so fast. And it sucks because Scarlett Dawn has an awesome idea here for an amazing full length novel. And Scarlett has tremendous talent too that's why I picked up Gargoyle in the first place. I am a HUGE fan of Dawn's Forever Evermore series and I've been dying for her to come out with a new novel and series. I was literally craving her writing but she kept putting out novellas. So of course I finally caved and picked up Gargoyle. But unfortunately this novella left me completely unsatisfied.
Firstly, I was confused majority of the time. Because it's so short we didn't get any world building or any backstory to what is going on. So majority of the book I was confused as hell.
Secondly, Dawn made the main male lead bisexual. Now there's nothing wrong with that. But it's not my cup of tea. It's the same reason I didn't pick up her spin off series from Forever Nevermore. It was totally weird how it came out that he is gay too.... let me just give ya some backstory here....
So the book starts out with our heroine Kennedy on top of a building drunk off her ass. She is hanging on to a gargoyles dick (who happens to be our male lead) and she slips and falls off the building. Of course the gargoyles including the hero don't save her. They're like "oh well, stupid human".
But before Kennedy hits the ground a wizard comes out of nowhere, stops her decent, gives her some prophecy, throws a book at her and tells her she and her true love will save the town.
Um. Okay.
That's just the prologue.
In the first chapter we start idk when. It never says. But Kennedy is delivering a package, I'm assuming she is a delivery girl( it never really says). Because of the power the wizard bestowed upon her she is now aware of gargoyles, shifters, and wizards. And she realizes she is delivering to a gargoyle filled business.
But as soon as Kennedy walks in a power rushes through the town making everyone horny and screwing the closest person to them. Kennedy ends up screwing Isaac the town Mayor, leader of the Gargoyles (or shifters) all night long (even though she has a boyfriend.)
This eventually leads to a standoff between her ex boyfriend who is a gargoyle hunter (he broke up with her because she cheated) and Isaac the gargoyle Mayor she screwed. But then in the middle of this weird ass standoff/argument/fight whatever the hell is going on, (at this point I was confused as hell). Her EX BOYFRIEND WALKS UP TO ISAAC AND STARTS MAKING OUT WITH HIM.
I shit you not.
At this point my mouth was on the floor.
I had to go back and read and read and reread that page again making sure I read it right.
Apparently they are both bisexual and just so happen to be ex's as well. And at this point I had totally lost interest in Isaac. Like I said, just not my cup of tea.
Thankfully Kennedy is not okay with that at all. They both are insinuating a threesome/relationship and Kennedy is totally NOT having it. I think her and I both felt like we were in the twilight zone.
Anyways. Come to find out Isaac only wanted Kennedy and not her, I mean their, ex. He was just playing along with her ex just to show Kennedy what a piece of shit their ex is. And in the middle of this weird ass confusing conversation another "power" rushes through town and Isaac whisks Kennedy off to his house to save her.
And the rest few chapters of the story are about Kennedy and Isaac figuring out what is hurting the town and defeating the bad guy.
So yeah I wasn't a huge fan of Gargoyle. But it did have funny banter and dialogue and even though it was short and I wasn't feeling the bisexual situation, it still kept me entertained for a few hours. It was just lacking meat and substance. I'm not giving up on Scarlett Dawn though, her dialogue and writing is a favorite of mine!
When a magical wave creates irresistible lust, Kennedy Kirk, human, and Isaac Stone, mayor of Woodland Creek and gargoyle, are trapped into a night of wild passion.
While the town reels from that cataclysmic night, Kennedy and Isaac do as well, separately. Until a chance meeting at a local restaurant, throws Kennedy, Isaac and Kennedy’s ex-boyfriend back together.
Seriously, too short because I wanted more of the Woodland Creek world, Gargoyle was an amazing new read. The cast is lol funny, the chemistry burns the pages and the story was utterly engaging.
I received this ARC copy of Gargoyle from Scarlett Dawn in exchange for a honest review.
I’ve rather enjoyed Scarlett Dawn’s Origin series thus far, and the Scarlett Dawn book in The Complex series, which left me curious to see how Scarlett Dawn’s Woodland Creek story played out. With how interesting the Woodland Creek series sounded, I was pretty eager to dive in.
If I’m being completely honest, this was more of a two-point-five-star read rather than the two-star rating I gave it. I was invested but I wasn’t crazy about it, and this is why my rating was rounded down rather than up. I’m certainly curious about the other books in the series and will continue to read Scarlett Dawn, but this one failed to wow me in the way I had hoped.
I think my biggest issue is things were never as clear as I had hoped they would be. The world was interesting, but I had more questions than answers in the end. I felt we only touched the surface, and what we were introduced to was never explained in full. Had things been clearer on that front, had I understood the world and dynamics better, I would have been happy to round up instead of down.
It still would have been a three-star rating, though, as I wasn’t as invested in the characters and their story as I had hoped to be. Things were too fast and the connection never really developed. Everything was instant, and I never felt any of the things I had hoped to. There was potential, but I wasn’t invested.
Overall, Gargoyle is far from my favourite Scarlett Dawn read but I was invested enough to finish this in a single sitting.
1.5 stars = Okayish in a weird nonsensical way. I like gargoyles, but this was just too strange and the leading lady flips on a dime about her feelings for the Gargoyle. The premise had potential, but really felt just like an excuse for smexy times - which I don't mind if I care about the characters and I didn't.
Seriously, this was awesome. I was extremely curious how the whole "gargoyle shifter" thing worked, and the visual I got from SD was fantastic.
I wanted to hate Isaac, I did, but his character is so funny I just couldn't. That is not to say I didn't wish I could smack him around a little... good thing he's not real or I'd be in a world of trouble taking on a shifter!
Kennedy is, well, she's special. She is tough, smart, sassy, and human. So very human. Loved her. Her reaction to certain situations was heartfelt and agonizing (especially once you got the whole story).
The story starts off with a bang. Literally. Panty-soaking, hot-as-hell, erotic craziness that will leave you squirming and panting. Be prepared. You may want to take a momentary break from reading with your significant other.
One of the things I love about SD is her ability to take what could be a huge, HUGE, book and give you everything you need/want in a novella. That takes talent. Talent she has in spades.
If you are looking for a great PNR, Gargoyle has the whole shebang: heat, anger, sadness, loss, joy, jealousy, guilt, everything. Don't delay, grab it as soon as you can.
I was given an ARC in exchange for am honest review.
The use of the word "hummed" drove me freakin' nuts! It was used around 27 times in the book, and not like it was someone humming a tune. I hummed, he hummed, she hummed, Mike hummed, The Mayor hummed, we all f'n hummed! STFU with the humming speech already! Find some different descriptive words like seethed, whispered, breethed, moaned, grimaced, sighed, or maybe just, "Hmmm"... SOMETHING!!! Sure, there wasn't really any gramatical errors, but Jesus, the writing seemed repetative, the characters flat, the story was bland, plot weak, the sex scenes MEH. I really don't see how this novella was $2.99. At most, it should have been $0.99 and even that seems like a lot.
The only reason this didn't get 1 star is because of the funny beginning, and all that did was convince me the main character in the story is a complete idiot. Also, it was kind of a shock to discover that the H has bisexual tendencies.
The beginning chapters had me pretty confused. There was a magic-induced lust scene
that I didn't get at all.
It confused me a whole lot actually.
Due to that I was pretty
upset the rest of the chapters until I did get an explanation.
The rest of the novella worked. For one minute I worried about the amount of love interests and possibility of no happy ending, but it all came through.
Reviewed @ Confessions From Romaholics Review copy kindly provided by author in exchange for a honest review I was excited when I realise that Dawn had contributed to this series , a gargoyle shifter romance as I haven’t come across any adult ones as of yet until now. So I was immediately intrigued that town mayor was a gargoyle and snob gargoyle at that.
Dawn captures your interest from the very first page by taking us straight to a situation with our heroine Kennedy which sets the tone for the book. Kennedy is drunk and decides to a stupid drunk thing by clicking up the clock tower only to fall off and is about to die. However it is her night and she save by a wizard. A dying wizard who knows the town is in trouble and bestows her his gifts and mysterious magical gift.
Not thing much , of the book, it is soon apparent that Kennedy has learnt the secret of Woodland Creek. There is more then ordinary humans lurking in the town. There are shifters….
Fast forward to the present and Kennedy has down a complete u-turn on her life and has quite drinking and is now vary of Shifters and wizards after that night. She believes in the rummors and now is worried in being the company of them.
Until she takes a courier job to deliver a package on a night where all hell breaks lose and she caught up in it all when all inhibitions are thrown out of the windows and the only thing on the mind of everyone is Sex. Shifters and humans alike thanks to the this mysterious magnetic pull which leads to landing in the lap of Issac.
Who happens to be the mayor of the said town and the man she happened to spend the night with . Catering to their basic needs of lust and desire unaware of the repcussions.
Will this come back to bite them?
Okay I had to read the first few pages in question, as this book needs you full attention to grasp this situation at hand to get the whole picture and understated the night in question. As this night is important and I glad I did re-read it again as the rest book was interesting and intriguing to the last page. I loved how Dawn play the story out after building from that one night. I you are looking for a shifter story with a difference give this one a go
Every time I open a SD book, I am taken on a journey into a world I could never imagine. Her stories transport me to a place and time where magic exists, love wins (despite the trials they face to get there), and the action (from all sides) is always riveting. Gargoyle is no exception.
From the very first page I was captivated by yet another town, another group of characters, and another story I didn't want to put down. So, I didn't. I read the entire book in one afternoon...and I loved it.
Woodland Creek is a place I'd like to explore. Isaac (and his family) are people I'd like to meet...and I only say people because if I were in this story, I should never know they are Shifters. *smiles* Kennedy is woman I'd definitely be friends with. She has a keen sense about her, excellent taste, and a spark that very few people possess these days. The way she handles herself and the situations she's thrown into is exactly what I hoped, and so much more.
Okay, back to Isaac. One word. Yes. He's the (mad) bad boy you want to hate but just absolutely love. He's a perfect mix of brooding Alpha and tender gentleman. Maybe those aren't the right words...but they work for me.
I loved this story, just like the rest and I always look forward to more when it comes to Scarlett Dawn.
I'm seriously starting to think that I'm becoming obsessed with the writing ingeniousness that is Scarlett Dawn.
Kennedy has unfortunately had her eyes opened to the world around her. In a situation that she couldn't have foretold she ends up shacking up with the town's sexy mayor who just also happens to be a gargoyle.
After a crazy night together they go their separate ways only to have her crazy ass hole ex boyfriend and some strange magic push them back together.
This book was hot crazy and amazing. I really wish the rest of the Woodland Creek series was all written by Scarlett Dawn but I'm still planning on reading the rest to find out exactly what happened to the rest of Isaac's family especially Mandy.
Seriously write faster because I can't get enough of these books.
Lol now this book was hilarious. Also a quick read.
So Kennedy had a drunken night on a clock tower and almost fell to her death, almost is the word to pay attention to here. So mage guy saves her and then gives her a gift. That's when her life gets interesting and also hilarious.
I loved all the characters in this book. They were funny! They were awesome! They were murderous. Just trust me on this one, read it. Also I am disappointed that some characters from this book haven't got their own books. The series goes on but is written by other authors about other characters that don't make an appearance here. So you have been warned.
This was my first read by Scarlett Dawn, and I was pleasantly surprised. I'm not going to lie, the idea of a gargoyle shifter was not something I ever thought I'd be interested in reading. I love me some shifter reverse harems or romance books, but definitely would not have reached for a gargoyle based book on my own if it weren't for the reading challenge I'm doing.
HOWEVER - this book was SO DANG GOOD.
To lead off the book, we get a little flashback to Kennedy falling off a clock tower to what should have been her untimely death. instead, she was saved by a dying wizard who then leaves her with this magical book and "powers." From there we meet :
Male MC Isaac is the mayor of this shifter town. He's a pretty big deal. As his family. Female MC Kennedy is not a shifter, but took a gig delivering some packages for paranormal folk. That's how she crossed paths with Isaac. She knew who he was.... who didn't? She made it a point to stay clear of the shifter folk, as she believed they weren't....good to say the least. But while delivering a certain package in this neighborhood, she was hit with a very sudden wave of pure.... lust? sexual tension? To an insanely uncomfortable level. It apparently effected the entire town leading to some very interesting and spicy ordeals for everyone except children and elderly. While vulnerable during this wave, she finds / sees Isaac. They both consent to some spicy time to relieve the intense sexual tension / lust / etc.... and whew... what a great spicy start to a book! But remember, she doesn't like shifters, right? So clearly there will be some ....conflict and shall we say mixed feelings about her decision to sleep with a shifter. The remainder of the book covers that ground and her feelings for a shifter hunter and a shifter. The book does also give more information on the initial paranormal event that led to everyone going into a sex-crazed state, which helped... because initially it was a little confusing.
Overall, I'd definitely check out the other books in this series, [ not by this author ] and other books written by Scarlett.
This wasn't what I was expecting AT ALL. I realize that it's a paranormal romance, but I'm almost go so far as to say it's more light erotica with a side of paranormal.
Since I went in expecting one thing and got something very different, I was a little disappointed. At first, I was okay with the hot heavy, because it was really well written and I saw it as a really interesting plot point that had interesting possibilities. But the exploration of sexuality was much deeper than the exploration of the paranormal elements - which had SO MUCH potential. I wanted to understand this world better, I wanted to get to know the way magic and shifters worked in this world better, and was left with so many unanswered questions in that vein.
I think the characters and world had great potential and I'm curious to know if the series that this is a novella for has more substance or is equally focused on the sex. I don't mind erotica - I enjoy it sometimes - but I like the plot to feel meaningful and this one ended up falling short. I would give Scarlett Dawn another chance for sure, though because there was a lot of potential and things that interested me. And maybe if I approached with the right expectation I wouldn't be disappointed.
This qualifies for COYER Fall Scavenger Hunt Item #22 - Read a book with a one word title.
It had been a crazy night for Kennedy Kirk, one that found her quite drunk and on the very top of the clock tower surrounded by stone gargoyles and one beautiful, seemingly tranquil town. That’s the thing about illusions, they are never, ever truly what they seem. Leaning over the edge of the clock tower, Kennedy gripped the gargoyle statue rather fiercely for balance. If only she could have heard the gargoyle’s thoughts as she gripped a very private part of this seemingly inanimate stone gargoyle. As she danced along the edge, tripping over other gargoyle statues in a drunken dance that only she heard the music for – it seems that justice has come down on the gargoyle’s side as she slowly tumbled over the side of the clock tower. But she never hit bottom, mere inches from certain death she was held up by… magic and the determination of one old, dying wizard. She had a mission now – and the life as she once knew it will be shattered into pieces.
Kennedy’s eyes were now opened to the reality of the small town of Woodland Creek. And she certainly didn’t want to be in this part of town tonight. But a job is the paycheck she lives on and this package must be delivered tonight. Entering the building she looked for the receptionist but she was nowhere to be found – what she did find were shifters, lots and lots of shifters as her skin shivered and the bile rose in her stomach. She hated shifters.
Then a wave of… something rolled over the town, time and time again. No one would be the same the next morning.
Gargoyle is one of the novellas in the Woodland Creek collection – thirty stories by thirty paranormal romance authors – all released at the same time for one huge reading experience for any lover of Paranormal Romance. All are somewhat stand alone stories, all centered around a small town, Woodland Creek, Indiana. It seems that mention of other residents of this spooky town are in some of the other stories at times, I found no real reading order to the stories so I started with the story on the top of every list that I could find — and the one that made the most sense to me, since events in Gargoyle seemed to affect the entire town and the supernatural citizens on this particular night.
Kennedy Kirk and Isaac Stone (perfect pun by the way) are on the surface one of the most unusual romantic couples I’ve ever read about. And I do a lot of reading. Isaac is a bit of a smartass, a royal pain in the butt and has plans behind that facade of his that absolutely no one sees coming. Gargoyles dislike humans with a passion, one that his family is quite good at conveying to Kennedy. So to see these two as an eventual couple was a long shot for me.
I have to admit that shifters of the non-furry kind are not my usual preferred type of shifter to read about. Give me a big cat, a bear even a wolf and I’m good, ecstatic in fact – but stone statues, snakes or crocs… not so much. So I’ll be honest here and say that based on the cover blurbs for the stories in this collection – there are some that will be at the very bottom of the reading list – for me, maybe not you (every reader has their preferences ya know?).
Having admitted that – I did find Gargoyle quite entertaining and an enjoyable read. If there were some confusing moments, I simply put it down to my being unfamiliar with that type of shifter’s history and continued on with the main story. Isaac is going to be a hero that you will dislike long before the redeeming moments are revealed and Kennedy had moments as well where I simply wanted to shake her… but the story called for those moments.
I would recommend this novella. If you love gargoyles then this is one story you will want to add to your collection. And if you haven’t read about gargoyle shifters before, this is an interesting introduction to them.
Title: Gargoyle Author: Scarlett Dawn Genre: Paranormal Romance, Fantasy Series or Standalone:Standalone Series Novella (Woodland Creek) Rating: ★★★★★
Review
This book drew me in for two reasons. One, I’ve never read a book featuring a gargoyle. Hell, if I’m being honest, I’m kind of behind in experiencing shifter books as well, so this was a double whammy. Add in that this was an author I’d never had the pleasure of experiencing before, and a pretty kick ass looking cover and I was sold.
I enjoyed this short little read immensely. I have to admit that I wished it were longer, but for what was here, I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn’t like anything I’d read before and I enjoyed quite a few of the characters, both the main ones as well as those that served a greater purpose from the background.
Carter and Mike stood out at times even more than Kennedy and Isaac did. I’m not entirely sure if that was the author’s intent, but she definitely sold me on wanting more of those two. The entire family really. They all had aspects of their personalities that came through strong and made me want even more with them. Even the mother that I wanted to hate but couldn't lol.
What I enjoyed most had to be the way Kennedy was presented.
Often times in books and I say this because even in my own writing endeavors, I’ve fallen victim to this, the heroine usually comes across meek and mild. In this, Kennedy was a lot tougher than I went in expecting her to be and it drew me in even more. She was capable of giving back as good as she got, even when she was swept up and often times lost in what was going on around her. She was tough and I enjoyed that, especially with the way she was shown in the opening scene.
I wanted to hate Isaac, but in the end couldn’t. Sure, he was kind of a cocky ass, but the reasoning for it worked and in the end, the payoff I wanted right from the first scene was given to me in spades by books end. His protectiveness came through, his affection and in the end, what appeared to be caused by magic and power, turned out to be about a whole lot more for both him and Kennedy.
It was humorous on top of being spellbinding, and all sorts of steamy. The steaminess of it actually taking me off guard as in the paranormal stories I’ve read in the past, there wasn’t a whole lot of face time given to this aspect. But that, along with all of the other elements present here came together and created one hell of a read.
I’m glad I took the chance with this book and with this author. Her style of writing, and the pacing of this story definitely made me a fan and now I’m eager to see what else she’s written and I look forward to reading more from her in the future. Maybe if we’re lucky, we’ll get even more of these characters.
I think if you’re a fan of short reads, paranormal/fantasy style reads or this author, you’ll enjoy this.
My thanks to the author and all others involved for letting me read this story before its official release. I enjoyed it immensely.
Scarlett Dawn is one of my go to authors whose every release I grab and read. Gargoyle was no different. In fact, I was more excited about Gargoyle almost because there is something about Gargoyles that call to me and I always grab the few shifter books I can find on them.
Where do I even start with Gargoyle? This is great example of Dawn’s work, in your face right from the start, humorous, hot, with a tad bit of crazy thrown in.
At the beginning I wasn’t sure what kind of character Kennedy was going to be. With the way the book begun, I was kind of surprised to see her be as strong of a woman as she was. In the beginning she was on the clock tower hanging off of Isaac’s (in gargoyle form) kickstand. Who knew she’d grow to be someone who could stand on her own and not take anyone’s grief? I really liked her as a character.
Isaac. What an egotistical gargoyle who I ended up loving. He’s the guy you want to hate but end up loving. I loved the chemistry between him and Kennedy.
I loved 99% of this book. It goes up there with my favorite Scarlett Dawn books (which would be all of them). There was one scene that just didn’t feel right to me. I know other reviewers have mentioned this one part but I don’t want to spoil it in my review. It just came out of left field and felt a little awkward to me. It wasn’t the subject matter but how this particular subject was introduced.
When I was done reading I was really hoping that Scarlett would continue on with this as a series with each member of the family/other characters. I would snatch those up in a heartbeat.
Another great read from Scarlett Dawn that has made me pick up other books in the Woodland Creek series. I can’t wait to see what other authors beyond Dawn and Moen (loved Dearborn as well) have to offer from this town.
I received a copy of this story for an honest review for The Reading Room Blog.
Welcome to Woodland Creek, a picture perfect town... full of shifters, witches, wizards and weird goings on. It's also the setting for the steamy and exciting new novella from author Scarlett Dawn. Gargoyle knocked my socks off and left me eager for more.
What I Loved: Paranormal romance is my jam and Gargoyle hit all the right notes for me - smoking hot alpha who is a smidge of jerk but still swoon worthy, plucky heroine who is fallible but refreshingly redeemable, crackling chemistry between the leads and mysterious goings on that kept me guessing until the very end.
What I Didn't Love: Because this is a novella, there is a lot of story compacted in short space. Leads Kennedy and Issac are solid but there is a slew of secondary characters that left me guessing how they may play out in future novellas instead of how they contributed directly to Gargoyle.
Favorite Quotes:
"His mouth was... delectable. A sinful indulgence I lost myself in as I pressed my lips to the plushest, softest mouth ever imaginable sinking into them."
"No one's past redemption. You only need to have faith."
"With faith comes trust. With trust comes safety. And the woman who gives you all three will hold your heart."
I received an ARC of "Gargoyle" from the author, in exchange for an honest review.
Oh my goodness, "Gargoyle" is the first book I've read by Scarlett Dawn, not knowing what I was in for I started this book, I was soon drawn into the story. I was really intrigued with how this was going to end. "Gargoyle" is Scarlett's installment for the "Woodland Creek" collection, a collaboration of 30 authors all writing about 1 little town in Indiana USA, I was intrigued with the concept behind this collection.
That first chapter really drew me in, it was kinda funny but not all at once. I could just imagine that roof top scene actually occuring, I had such a giggle. Then we get introduced to Kennedy, who gets her eyes magically opened & gifted a book. The darkness is coming & only Kennedy has the ability to fix everything. Lets not forget the magical pulses that hit all (except children & the very old) with lower inhibitions. One night that changes everyones lives in that town..... WOW what a ride that was, it had me glued to the pages, devouring them, I NEEDED to know that happened, then I had finished. I was HOOKED! I so wish this was a longer story.
I think I need to read more from Scarlett Dawn. I can't wait to read what the others have written for the "Woodland Creek" collection.
Gargoyle was such a fun read for me. This is the first book that I’ve read by Scarlett Dawn and I’m super excited to read more from her.
Gargoyle is a quick, but fun and entertaining read. The story was fast paced, well-written and kept my attention the whole time. I found the characters to be intriguing and easy to connect with. The story-line was really enjoyable. It was different from what I normally read. I loved all of the paranormal elements. I really enjoyed the paranormal world that this author created.
Gargoyle is full of magic, steam and humor. Yes, this story is short at about 125 pages, but let me tell you, it gives you everything that you need and more. If you’re looking for a short, but sexy and fun paranormal read, look no further. I hope you will be as entertained by this story as I was!
*I was provided an ARC copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review*
Take two Wizards, a family of Gargoyles and a city full of unknowing Humans and you get Woodland Creek. Gargoyle by Scarlett Dawn id Hot, hot, hot!!! From the first word to the last she sucked me in and kept me interested in Kennedy and Isaac's story. they are drawn together because the two of them need to save the world from a insane Wizard.
Though this is a short story it keeps you on the edge of your seat and the sexual tension between Kennedy and Isaac is undeniable!!! I would like to read more about these two from Scarlett Dawn.
So for some hot shifter sex with some magic and mystery thrown in read Gargoyle by Scarlett Dawn.
I read a lot of paranormal romance. While a lot of the stories are similar I never get tired of them. This one however was a surprise. It was truly different. I loved the characters. But not because they were nice or sweet or loveable. They were real, with flaws and deception. There are no perfect characters in this book, and I loved it. And the storyline was fabulous. I never guessed who the bad guy was until it was practically spelled out for me. Terrific book.
Horrible, this book was just horrible do not buy it! I expected so much more from this author. The book reads like a zero draft. I don't think any proof reading or editing was done at all. There are massive holes in the plot and the characters can only be described as wishy washy and one dimensional. If I didn't know any better I would say this was a first time author or a child who wrote this. Don't waste your money or time on this story!
